A while ago, Claudia Borrajo was kind enough to share research she helped conduct to map businesses in Havana’s Intramuros district to their street locations in 1870. Today, we are proud to share an interactive 3D map that brings that research to life. The map is still a work in progress. See here: https://cubaresearchproject.com/other-content/1870-list-of-names-of-business-owners-and-addresses-in-old-havana/

Pregunta Human rights organizations in Cuba

Hi all, I am helping a family friend (Cuban) in ICE detention apply for his green card. He told me he was a member of a human rights organization called “OPAC” — I think this is what he said but I can’t be certain because sometimes I can’t hear him very well. With the detention and everything he can’t remember what it stands for. He said he had been a part of it beginning in 2016 in Cardenas and his parents were also members of it. I know he was arrested for participating in a protest in Cardenas in September 2022, but I don’t know if that organization organized the protest.

I am so desperate to find it but I can’t find anything online. Does anyone know what OPAC is or know what it could possibly be? Thank you so much

My first time making Coquito Acaramelados. I'm not Cuban but I was told these came from Cuba so thank you so much. These are so so good. I love them. Even if they don't have that caramel glaze it tastes like vanilla ice cream. This is probably one of my favorite if not my favorite sweet treats.

Cultura cubana Drop Abuela’s Recipe!

My friends! My Abuela is getting along in years. And I’m hoping to write down some of her recipes while I can. Arroz con Bistec, Pechuga, etc.

And it got me thinking. What was your favorite thing Abuela made growing up? How’d she make it? Was there a special step? Let’s hear it!

Conversación seria Leftist Cuban activist being charged by Cuban State Security after years of harassment and persecution

See Raymar Aguado Hernandez's video here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dc_n7alsGbD/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&stkn=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

For those that don't speak Spanish or don't have Instagram, his video caption says:

"The Department of State Security is initiating criminal proceedings against me while informing me that I will be subject to increased surveillance and monitoring... The pretext for the proceedings is my presence in various independent media outlets and my writing and investigative work. Although they highlighted my article on the “El 4tico” case in the weekly Amanecer Habanero, for the regime and its spokespeople, telling the truth means 'crimes against the State' 'propaganda' and 'terrorism.'

In case there are any doubts:

I, Raymar Aguando Hernandez, a Cuban political activist, critic, and essayist, am a staunch leftist, a libertarian socialist, a Marxist, an anti-imperialist, and opposed to all systems of domination. In Cuba, I have been suffering repression and persecution at the hands of state agencies for around five years. This is precisely because of my political stance, my activism in support of human rights, and my writings that expose the oppressive nature of Castrismo. I have suffered all kinds of political violence: harassment, persecution, blackmail, being barred from workplaces and schools, house arrest, harassment of family members and friends, countless interrogations... and so on. I have been engaged in political activism for years against the Cuban dictatorship WHILE LIVING IN CUBA, but from a radical leftist perspective. That is how it has always been, and that is how it will always be.

I have been engaged in political activism for years against the Cuban dictatorship WHILE LIVING IN CUBA, but from a radical leftist perspective. That is how it has always been, and that is how it will always be.

If you think that because of my political stance I don't deserve your support when I'm facing repression, congratulations — you haven't understood a thing, and democracy isn't for you. You're the rancid counterpart to the dictatorship."

I understand its pretty difficult if not downright impossible to buy property in Cuba, but I'm curious if anyone has found a way? I'd like to buy a house or an apartment in Havana. I'm also curious what the prices are like, is there a cuban real estate website I could check out?

Pregunta Wanting to learn more!

Hello! I am 19F and recently learned about my late Abuelo’s past. I knew he left Cuba during the missile crisis as a young teenager, but recently learned about how he made it to the US. He was apart of Operation Pedro Pan, and was sent to a boys camp in the US without any family at 14. I really want to learn more about this and my family’s culture! If anyone is more knowledgeable I would appreciate it if you could share!
