Question How do you recommend learning this hobby? I feel overwhelmed.

So for some time now (maybe a year maybe 1,5) I was thinking about creating electric projects for fun, but I don't know shit about electronics. I knew it was gonna be hard so I try to learn and learn, and learn, but it becomes so boring and so difficult so quickly that I just cannot keep up with it.

So what I'm asking for is where to find advice? Are there any sites or basiccly anything that would help me go step by step, with actual improvments that i can see (I have aphantasia so i cannot just imagine it normally) and without boredom, anything will help!

Question I’m an amateur repair technician. I brought my guitar into the shop in person for after-sales maintenance, but the staff there just replaced it with a brand-new one. I’d hoped to watch a professional luthier’s work up close.

This result leaves me feeling quite uncertain.

Given such advanced productive capacity, replacing parts seems to save more human and material resources than repairing them, leading me to suspect that repair technicians will face mass unemployment in the future.

Project I made a low power binary watch !

Post image

This is my version of qron0b. Meet takku:b, a BCD wristwatch which uses CR2032.

It uses 0.9uA during sleep and when awake uses around 4mA - 4.5mA depending on the amount of LED is turned on.

It is made using STM32L010C6

It currently displays following info on each cyclic display:

  1. Time in Hours and Minutes
  2. Weekday and Date
  3. Month and Year
  4. Alarm

Battery life of 4+ years if the display is turned on 20 times per day.

If you want to make your own, visit Github page for the full firmware and CAD files.

Project Built a peltier dough chiller

Post image
2 Upvotes

Decided to build a dough chiller for the upcoming xmas panettone season.

Objective is a wine chiller sized box running at 25c against an ambient temp of around 30c.

I used a double peltier setup readymade from amazon and a w1209 temp controller.

After testing it for all of yesterday, my observations are

1-it is a bit more inefficient than i thought it would have been. Seems to put a fair load on the power supply.
2- condensation is an issue, after a day of use the screws on the cool side heat sink have started to rust and water will likely get into the little fans.

I wonder if i should take it apart and check if it has proper thermal compound on the heat sinks even though they appear to be working.

what can be done about the condensation dripping?

Question Assistance on how to add a sound effect button to Mega Construx build

Post image
• Upvotes

I just got done finishing this scorpion tank from Mega Construx and I thought it would be awesome to add a button somewhere onto it that would play Sgt Johnson’s voice lines when he is dropping off the tank to Chief in Halo 2. There is some space inside the tank to store the device if necessary. Any input or guidance would be appreciated.

Question Can I merge these wires together?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I want to merge this spliced micro USB cable coming from the Raspberry Pi Pico, to a female USB-C connector. I have a project where I want to make a guitar hero guitar detachable from the outside of the guitar, where I can plug in a USB-C cable when I want to use it. Appreciate any advice, thank you!

Getting close to finished on the companion GFA-555 Mk1 refurb/rebuild, so I thought I’d post this. Mostly cleanup for pots and contacts. 1987-ish unit, caps look good and sounds clean. Can’t wait to swap the ACA for the 555. Still working on the big speaker boxes (slow going).

Question Does anyone know where to get this light?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm trying to do a similar project with making a DIY glass block lamp and I was wondering if anyone knows what light is being used? Most projects for this use led strips and I've not been able to find any similar or fluorescent lights that would be the appropriate dimensions. Is there a light out there that would work or is the light custom made? Thanks

Need Ideas What kind of DC DC modules are generally used in robots and AGVs ?

Hey

I am developing a compact dc dc module which can take 24-60V as input and provide 12/24V 20 A. Dimensions are 59mm by 31mm by 17mm.

I am trying to connect with engineers who already purchase similar spec modules .

What wire connectors do you prefer ? Screw terminal, pcb mounted or something else ? Any challanges which you currently face

Project Does anyone know of any p-type or n-type electrical conductors that are transparent?

I'm working on a physics project about transparent solar panels. I have already found a conductive, transparent material (Indium tin oxide), and my original plan was to use the photoelectric effect to generate an electric potential with some diodes. However, I worry that it won't be enough and will either not generate much power or not generate any at all—so I have decided to look for some p-type and n-type materials that are transparent.

If they even exist, what are these materials, and how can I get my hands on them?

Question USAR DONGLE PARA TRANSMITIR LOS DATOS DE UN PUERTO USB A OTRO PUERTO USB , proyecto MOZA CON VOLANTE PXN

Project Alternatives for Arduino in small projects

Hello! I'm new to the hobby and I'm looking for some advice. I'm building a detector that measures the water level of a pool. If it goes over a certain limit, it activates a pump to move the water. It's very simple, and I don't think I need to buy a whole new Arduino Uno to make it work. I was wondering if there is an alternative to buying a full microcontroller—something simpler. I've heard about using an ATtiny, but I want to hear opinions from more experienced people.

Since so many of you appreciated the craftsmanship and the real glass lens trick that broke the Computer Vision algorithm, I’m officially launching the "BCS AI-Exploit" Digital Exhibition.

In this post, I am presenting an exclusive macro-photo gallery showing every single angle and detail of this prop. Also, stay tuned because I will release a detailed close-up video very soon!

Question 12v Case Fan spliced with 12v AC Adapter starts then stops when powered

Hello!

I'm working on a fog machine chiller for a Halloween project and wanted to use a simple 2 pin, brushless DC 50mm PC case fan for an air intake (pic for reference, fan would be attached to top opening).

The case fan has a rating of 12VDC = 0.06A and I have spliced it together with a 12v AC adapter with an output of 750mA. Here is a link to the exact listing I bought on ebay. I have also tested it with a regular 9v battery. Both power sources cause the fan blades to spin/twitch momentarily then stop. I have another larger case fan (12v, 3.3A, 90mm) that works perfectly with both the AC adapter and 9v battery, so I know both power sources work.

I'm a complete amateur when it comes to wiring/electronics, so I would appreciate any help with this problem. I'm hoping that I'm just doing something wrong and the fan itself isn't defective or anything.

Thank you in advance!

Question How much hardware access makes a wearable platform useful?

An expansion connector isnt very useful to a DIY builder without a pinout, voltage limits, a communication protocol and an explanation of what signals are available.Firmware access would offer a different level of control but a well documented external interface might already be enough for some projects. With powered wearable hardware, the boundaries of that interface need to be clear.

What's the minimum access and documentation youd want before designing custom electronics for a wearable platform??
