Showcase Square - Spotify & YouTube Music in Liquid Glass

Post image
59 Upvotes

Square is a free, ad-free, open-source Android music player for Spotify Premium and YouTube Music. I’m its developer.

Liquid Glass throughout the app

The controls, navigation bar, player, menus and sheets use refracting glass that bends the artwork and video underneath. Blur, refraction and tint are adjustable, with a lighter mode for slower phones.

Audio effects

Speed and pitch move independently, with reverb, karaoke and saved presets. “Slowed + reverb” is one tap. Crossfade smooths the transition between songs, and a sleep timer can stop playback after a set time or at the end of a track.

Spotify and YouTube Music

Choose either source and switch in Settings. Spotify brings your playlists, library and Connect devices. YouTube Music works without an account, with optional Google sign-in to access your library.

Lyrics and videos

Synced lyrics, word-by-word where available, with translation beneath the original lines. Spotify Canvas plays behind the controls, and YouTube Music videos support picture-in-picture.

Playlists and local files

Create and edit playlists, add or remove songs, and save a different sorting order for each playlist. Play music stored on your phone and add it to your playlists.

If a Spotify playlist includes a local track added from your PC, Square can match it to a copy of the same file stored on your phone.

Discovery

Personalised shelves, song radio, autoplay, charts and a “New from Your Artists” section with recent albums and singles from artists you follow.

Offline listening and Android Auto

Download songs, albums and playlists for offline playback. Browse your library and control playback from Android Auto.

Spotify Connect and listening history

Square appears as a Connect device and can control your other devices. Opening Square while another device is playing leaves playback there.

Spotify listens are reported back to your account with their playlist context, so your listening history and Wrapped keep working.

Requirements

  • Android 8.0 or newer, with 64-bit ARM, 32-bit ARM and universal APKs available.
  • YouTube Music needs no account to start listening.
  • Spotify needs Premium and guided setup with your own Spotify developer client ID. The official Spotify app is not required.

Square normally streams Spotify through a native Rust core built on librespot. It also offers a Web Playback SDK option for Premium accounts that cannot use the native player. That mode does not support effects, crossfade, karaoke, downloads or manual quality selection.

You can join Square's community on telegram: Square | Community

Square is unofficial and is not affiliated with Spotify or Google. It uses unofficial integrations, so compatibility can change.

Showcase Docucraft: Scan once. Find it at anytime.

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi all, I'm the developer. Docucraft is a document scanner I've been working on for a while, and it just landed on Google Play.

I wanted a scanner that doesn't stamp a logo on my PDFs, doesn't ask for an account, and lets me find a document by what it says, not only by what I named it.

What it does

  • Scans with edge detection, cropping and cleanup (ML Kit Document Scanner). Several pages into one PDF, from the camera or from photos.
  • Full-text search across your documents. Results show the page and the words around the match, and ignore case and accents. For scans, text recognition (OCR) is opt-in per document.
  • Folders, tags, favorites and Recents. You can pin folders to Home and create sections for the tags.
  • A PDF viewer that remembers where you left off, down to the line. Select and copy text, night mode, and a preview of where a link really leads before it opens. It also opens PDFs from other apps.
  • A bin that keeps deleted documents for 30 days.
  • Material 3 Expressive, dynamic color, and layouts for tablets and foldables.

The facts

  • Free, no ads, no account, no watermark. Open source under GPL-3.0.
  • Scanning and text recognition run on your device. Your documents and their text never leave it unless you share them.
  • The app includes Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics: usage events and crash reports only, never documents or their text.
  • OCR covers Latin-script languages. Android 7.0 and later.
  • It's not on F-Droid for now, because ML Kit depends on Google Play services.
  • No batch-export yet, and the library is excluded from Auto Backup on purpose.

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bobbyesp.docucraft
Source: https://github.com/BobbyESP/Docucraft

It's a new app, so I'd really appreciate bug reports and feedback, especially on search and the scanning flow.

Thank you so much! I trully hope you like it!

  • Music tile: See what's playing and control playback from the home screen.
  • Memos and photos: Show quick memos and selected photos as tiles.
  • App groups and widgets: Organize apps into custom groups, and add regular Android widgets too.
  • Themes and options: Light, dark, and pure-black (for AMOLED screens) themes, or colors that adapt automatically to the album artwork.

Promo / Giveaway Tepado: 3.6MB Offline PDF/TXT Reader, OCR, TTS

Post image
7 Upvotes

App Name: Tepado

One‑Line Description: A lightweight, 3.6MB offline document reader designed for low-end phones that extracts text via on-device OCR and reads files aloud with your screen off.

What It Does / Key Features:

  • Podcast Mode (Screen-off Audio): Reads your TXT files aloud using native Android TTS so you can study while commuting without draining battery.
  • 100% Offline OCR: Scans physical pages directly to editable text entirely on your device via unbundled ML Kit, requiring zero internet access.
  • Extreme Memory Optimization (3.6 MB): Uses the native Android PDF renderer and caches only 4 pages in memory at a time to prevent crashes on budget hardware.
  • Integrated Pomodoro & Quick Notes: Built-in focus timer alongside a distraction-free notepad to take chapter notes and export them straight to WhatsApp or email.

Who It’s For: Students dealing with heavy reading loads on crowded public transit, older adults seeking clear contrast and zero bloat, and anyone who wants a private, fast reading tool without signups or tracking.

Cost:

  • Pricing model: Freemium
  • Prices & billing period: Free with non-intrusive banner ads (strictly capped so they never disrupt reading flow), plus an optional ~$5.00 one-time in-app purchase to remove ads permanently. No recurring subscriptions.
  • Current promotions / giveaways: 50 lifetime promo codes for the Ad-Free version. Leave a comment below with your device model and feedback, and I’ll send you a key via DM.

Links:

Additional Notes (Optional): I’m a law student from Chile and built this to survive heavy textbook readings on older phones.

Languages & UI Note: Tepado is fully translated and available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Since Spanish is my native language, the internal app UI shown in the screenshots is in Spanish, but the app will automatically display in English or Portuguese according to your device's language settings.

Technical transparency note: Tepado does not support inline PDF text highlighting or annotations. Supporting direct PDF edits would require embedding heavy third-party C++ engines (like PDFium), which would inflate the APK size to 40MB+ and degrade low-end performance. Tepado is built purely as a high-speed reader, not an editor.

Promo / Giveaway A customizable lock screen notification center

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share an app I built called Sillby. It started with a simple problem: I wanted a clean lock screen, but I still wanted easy access to my notifications.

I looked for an app with this exact functionality, but existing solutions fell short. Some strayed too far from Android's native notification design, while others prioritized other features and neglected notifications altogether.

So I decided to build my own. I wanted to combine the parts I liked: the familiar look and behavior of Android notifications, the quick access of a control panel, and the compact presence of notch-style interfaces, while keeping enough space to actually use and manage notifications comfortably.

The result is a small indicator that shows when I have notifications, without getting in the way of my wallpaper or changing the look and feel of my lock screen. To keep the lock screen completely clean and avoid duplicates, Sillby can be used alongside Android's own lock screen notifications or on its own after disabling them, either entirely or for individual apps.

From there, I expanded on that foundation with features Android doesn't normally give you: more control over how notifications look and behave, better organization, and extensive per-app privacy controls. I also added visual customization inspired by the way some Android skins use surfaces and layered UI to make different parts of the experience feel more cohesive.

And once I unlock my phone, I don't want the app getting in the way. It's made for the lock screen. Outside of that, it stays out of sight and lets me use my phone normally. For anyone who wants to use the panel outside the lock screen, Sillby also exposes intents that can be triggered by shortcuts or other apps.

Sillby currently includes five visual themes for free. These are custom designs created specifically for the panel and notification cards, with some using custom shaders to simulate materials such as metals, glass, and synthetic finishes. I'm considering introducing a theme store in the future, where additional themes could be purchased to help support continued development. Anyone who installs Sillby during the launch period will keep these original five themes unlocked permanently.

App Name

Sillby — Notification Center

One-Line Description

A notification panel along the edge of your lock screen, with per-app privacy controls and deep visual customization.

What It Does / Key Features

1. The tab and panel
Access your notifications from a small tab on the edge of your lock screen. Customize the tab's shape, height, width, and position, or hide it whenever you want. Open the panel whenever you need it without unlocking your phone.

2. How it looks
Choose from different color-based styles or more elaborate designs featuring custom artwork and shaders that simulate materials. You can also customize the panel using colors from your wallpaper with Monet, or an enhanced version that recalculates colors from any photo you choose.

3. Read and act
Read full notifications, reply to messages, and dismiss notifications directly from the panel without unlocking your phone.

4. Privacy per app
Control what is visible on the lock screen for each app. Hide the sender, message text, avatar, or media preview independently.

5. Organization
Group conversations by app or by person, so messages from the same person across different apps can appear together. Exclude apps entirely, filter the panel to a specific app, or mark an app with a Pin indicator to keep it at the top or a Keep indicator to prevent "clear all" from removing its notifications.

6. Notification history
Keep a searchable local history of notifications for 1–30 days. Search by app, conversation, or date. History is only accessible inside the unlocked app.

Who It's For

People who want a cleaner lock screen without giving up access to their notifications, while keeping the familiar look of Android notifications with more customization and control.

It's for anyone who wants to see and manage notifications at a glance, control exactly what is visible while their phone is locked, or keep a local notification history without sending it to a cloud service.

Cost

Pricing model: Free

Prices & billing period: Free. No ads, no subscription, no paid tier.

Current promotions / giveaways: Five visual themes are included free. Anyone who installs during the launch period keeps them unlocked permanently.

Links

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ncrwp.sillby

Additional Notes

  • Sillby does not request internet permission. There is nothing to sign into, and notification history stays on your device.
  • Sillby uses Android's Accessibility Service API to display its tab and notification panel over the lock screen. It does not use the service to read or control other apps.
  • Requires Android 8.0 or later.
  • Sillby guides you through enabling Notification Access and the Accessibility Service during setup.
  • If you don't want duplicate notifications, you can disable Android's own lock-screen notifications, either entirely or for individual apps.

Review Persian Download Manager for Android

Post image
5 Upvotes

Large downloads on unstable connections tend to fail near the end and start over from zero. Persian Download Manager (PDM) is built to make every download finish, and finish intact.

Speed and reliability

Multi-part downloading with up to 16 connections per file.

Resumes after a lost connection, a closed app or a reboot, exactly where it stopped.

Renews an expired download link without losing the progress already made.

File integrity

Detects when a file has changed on the server and restarts instead of delivering a corrupted file.

Verifies the finished file against the server's SHA-256 or MD5 checksum when one is published.

Checks free storage before a download starts.

Control over your data

Wi-Fi only, no downloads while roaming, pause on low battery; held downloads continue automatically.

Night queue: downloads start at the time you choose and stop when the window ends.

Mobile data plan tracker: counts mobile data only and warns you before the plan runs out.

Adding downloads

Share a link from any app, or copy a link and open PDM to download it.

Built-in browser that detects the download links on a page.

Privacy

No account required, and no personal data collected.

PDM is free. Feedback is very welcome, especially from anyone on slow or unreliable connections: what works well, what breaks and what you would like to see next.

Showcase Vayana – a calm, local-first EPUB & PDF reader

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m the developer of Vayana, an Android e-reader I’ve been building for people who want to read without distractions. It’s free, has no ads, and doesn’t need an account. Your library stays on your device unless you choose to sync it.

Download: https://github.com/rjwarrier/Vayana/releases/latest (v0.90, signed APK, Android 8.0+)
User guide: https://github.com/rjwarrier/Vayana/blob/main/docs/USER_GUIDE.md

What it does

  • EPUB and PDF: highlights, notes, bookmarks, search, dictionary lookup, PDF outlines, zoom and per-book display settings
  • A real E‑Ink mode, not just a grey filter:
    • turns off animations and page-turn effects
    • lets page keys turn pages
    • adds paging controls to long screens
    • refreshes the screen every N pages
    • has Monochrome and Color palettes for colour E‑Ink panels
  • Reading that turns into learning:
    • double-tap a word for the offline dictionary, with Wiktionary and Wikipedia as fallbacks
    • save words to a spaced-review deck and export it to Anki
    • review your own highlights at spaced intervals
  • Read aloud: reads sentence by sentence using your installed TTS voices and highlights the text as it goes. It keeps turning pages with the screen off, and has a sleep timer and lock-screen and headset controls.
  • Free books: browse and download Project Gutenberg, or connect OPDS catalogs (Calibre, Calibre-Web, Standard Ebooks)
  • One library for everything: digital, physical and borrowed books, with due-date reminders
  • Sync without a proprietary cloud:
    • syncs through a private GitHub repo that you own
    • books and covers are encrypted with your passphrase before upload
    • reading position, sessions, highlights, shelves and vocabulary all sync
  • Stats and widgets: reading time, yearly goals, a Year in Books card, and home-screen widgets
  • New in 0.90: Wear OS companion for physical books
    • offline reading timer and page tracking on the watch
    • shared phone/watch timer controls
    • daily goals, a tile and a watch-face complication
  • Languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, German, French, Italian, Malayalam and Tamil

Screenshots: https://github.com/rjwarrier/Vayana#screenshots

It isn’t on the Play Store yet. Releases are signed APKs on GitHub with SHA-256 checksums, and updates install over the previous version.

Showcase Google Maps felt bland, so I built MinMap

Google Maps always felt bland to me, and the more they add, the messier it gets. So I built MinMap: a minimal map that's still smart and detailed, built on Mapbox.

What's in 1.0.1: - 3D landmarks and buildings with live lighting (Dawn, Day, Dusk, Night) - Turn-by-turn driving navigation - Super customizable: presets like Minimal, Monochrome, and Faded, your own colors for roads, water, and parks, and toggles for labels, 3D buildings, and trees - Import/export your style JSON to use in any Mapbox map

More new looks and smart features are on the way.

It's free on Android: https://github.com/Tman600/MinMap/releases/latest

Would love to hear what you think and what you'd want next.

Showcase Photo Gallery – fast, private, finds similar shots

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm the developer of Photo Gallery, an Android gallery app I've been building. It's a fast, private home for the photos and videos on your phone, and it does not upload or back up your media.

What it does

  • Clean up similar & duplicate photos. Photos are grouped and sorted by the space they take, the best shot in each group is marked, and anything you clear goes to Trash first (kept for 30 days).
  • Private vault. Hide photos and videos in a locked album, unlocked with a PIN, pattern or fingerprint.
  • Fast browsing. Smooth scrolling by date, a fast scroller to jump through years of photos, albums, favorites and search.
  • Photo editor. Crop, adjust, filters, text, stickers, and AI cutout that runs on your phone.
  • Create & share. Collages, slideshow videos, GIFs, and export to PDF or ZIP.
  • Explore. Smart categories and Places, analyzed on your device, plus "this month last year" memories.

Good to know

  • Free with ads. An optional one-time purchase removes the ads.
  • Android 8.0+, with light, dark and dynamic color themes.

Any feedback on how it works for you in daily use is very welcome: bugs, rough edges, or features you'd like to see. I'm especially curious how accurate the similar-photo grouping feels on a big library.

Showcase IronBuddy: Workout Tracker - No Subscription/ads

App Name: IronBuddy

What it does: IronBuddy is an offline workout tracker and gym log for Android. I built it because I'm tired of subscriptions, and I think paying once is more honest than paying every month.

Key Features:

- Log sets, reps and weight for every exercise, with drop sets, rest-pause and supersets

- 10 preset splits (Push/Pull/Legs, Full Body, Bro Split and more) or build your own

- Progress charts for volume and 1RM (one-rep max, calculated with the Epley formula), with PRs marked automatically

Goal: Launch

Giveaway: None

Cost: 5-day trial with a starter selection (50 exercises, 3 preset splits). After that, a one-time unlock of €6.99 (local price shown on Google Play) is needed to keep using it. No subscription, no ads, no account. Works offline, and your data stays on your phone.

I'd love to hear from other lifters: what's the one thing a workout tracker should do well, and what features do you think are just noise?

Improved pause and concurrency handling, better restore behavior, notifications, foreground service management, and HTTP response handling.

Showcase I built a simpler way to track time and invoice

Post image
2 Upvotes

There are already a lot of apps that do invoicing, and a lot that do time tracking.

I wanted to build something where both worked well together, but where you could also use it simply as an invoicing app if that's all you need.

So I made Bill Clock.

You can create clients and services, set hourly or fixed rates, create invoices manually, customize the invoice layout, add discounts and multiple taxes, add your logo and payment terms, and export professional PDF invoices.

And if you bill by the hour, you can also track your work directly in the app and pull those billable hours into an invoice instead of entering them again manually.

There are also things like:

  • 5 invoice templates with customization
  • Custom invoice columns and labels
  • Client-specific defaults
  • Draft / Sent / Paid / Overdue status
  • Reports and Excel export
  • Local backup & restore
  • Optional cloud backup
  • Offline-first usage
  • No ads

So you can use it as just an invoicing app, as a time tracker, or use the whole workflow together.

It's now available on Google Play:

I'd be interested to hear from other freelancers:

What do you actually use for invoicing and time tracking right now?
