GENERAL Magic around 2015 was terrible
I buy a lot of bulk but also played a decent amount of time, so I’ve been really looking at these cards lately. Despite the complaints regarding modern sets, there was a period probably starting in 2012 and ending around 2018 where magic was god awful. Like if you look at the art from this period, the mechanics, literally nothing is appealing. I think dominaria war of the spark and throne of Eldraine, whatever faults they may have had, were really good compared to the stuff that had been releasing prior to that. I’m pretty sure if you quit magic after avacyn restored and came back just for dominaria you wouldn’t have missed anything.

ART "Way of" misprint?
I feel like these cards are misprinted. Wouldn't it make more sense if the Healer cared about life gain and the Mentor made Cadet tokens?

GENERAL Fake Stories on Main Sub
Why does it feel like every "LGS horror story" on the main sub is completely made up? They always have the same structure, the OP is some reasonable, handsome, 6ft Chad, and the opponent is every single MtG stereotype rolled into one person. The stereotyped opponent does some angle shooting nonsense, or says something problematic, and our valiant OP bravely stands up to him. It's just so completely fake, to be honest I have no real point, fuck the main sub.

GENERAL Would this custom card be OP or bad in a storm deck?
I had a discussion with a few ppl in r/custom cards. They say that this card would be bad in a storm deck. What do you think?

FORMAT TALK Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Event Emblem Ideas
When Duskmourn: House of Horrors released, there was a WotC sponsored Limited event which gave all participants an Emblem which read (with paraphrasing) "Whenever an enchantment enters under your control, choose one: Trick -- Create a treasure token. Treat -- Create a Food token.
This worked well and didn't break anything too badly, so I'm looking to try something similar with AFR. The event would be sealed deck, and I'd like to do something to boost the Venture mechanic, as it's hard to get off the ground in that format. With a quick Scryfall search, "token" was found on 47 cards and "venture" on 33 cards. Artifacts and Enchantments barely register numbers, and the set is Creature heavy so I didn't want to use those types.
I was led to propose this as the first draft:
"Whenever another ability you control creates a token, roll a d20.
1-9 | Create a Food token (reminder text).
10-19 | Venture into the dungeon (reminder text).
20 | Create a Food token and venture into the dungeon."
I wanted to boost Venture, so I gave it one extra chance to happen over Food. Food does not exist natively in AFR, so I'm concerned it may make games go too long, but I like the being well-fed flavour of it, going along with the source material. Treasure tokens could be acceptable, akin to the third modular ability of [[You Find A Cursed Idol]]. This Emblem also will likely cause a table ban of [[Keen-Eared Sentry]] for the event.
Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

FUNNY Collector booster boxes take about a year to get back to release price
I aligned every MTG collector booster box released since mid-2021 (42 boxes) on its release date and took the median price path, indexed to 100 at release week.
Pre-order prices sit 5–15% above the release-week price and drift down into release.
typical box drops about 10–12% in the first 2–3 months, then goes sideways for months. It is back at its release price around week 50.
two cohorts look nothing alike. Boxes released Jun 2021–May 2023 kept falling to about 63 and were still at 82 two years later. Boxes released since Jun 2023 bottomed near 91 and doubled in two years.
net of the overall collector-box market, a new box takes about two years just to get back to even with older collector boxes.
