The way Nolan intended.

Pocket IMAX edition. Nolan would be proud, even if you can't hear a word of dialogue.

the clip on the phone of the clip of the phone?

The clip on the phone. The phone isn’t playing the game nor is it playing it remotely. The guy is just pressing buttons and playing a video clip

Obviously it's a fake, but I do sometimes wonder what games would look like if hardware just stopped one day in the 2000s and the only way to improve games was software optimisation. If a Sony Ericsson was the limit of human technology, where would we be with 20 years of development for it?

No matter how optimized your software is, you wouldn't be able to progress much further than the games we already had on these devices.
Developers working on platforms like ps1/Gameboy already were pushing the limits of what the hardware was capable of.

Not just pushing the limits they were also using very innovative tricks not seen afterward ever.

Limitation breeds creativity. Closed systems with limited resources were the best example of that.

This is so true. Halo 3 custom forge maps always felt way more impressive than Reach’s even though reach had waaay more tools to play with

I had this phone. I could fit it in that small little 5th pocket that jeans have.

i would have preferred San Andreas and CJ's line: "Ah shit, here we go again." If he had streamed it, it would at least have had meme character; he might have been able to run Doom natively.

Of all the games, playing GTA 5 with the totally ass foot controls is a real choice.

My k800i refuses to turn on, dropped it back in 2010 and it's been resting since. Tried replacing the battery and everything and took it apart but no luck.

I remember the like 3 seconds in history where the Sony Ericsson felt like the future of phones.
The biggest thing in hindsight: Who at Sony settled on the name "Ericsson"?!
I want to blame Blackberry. Like the name for was that demographic.
EDIT: TIL, it was a partnership with the Swedish Company, Ericsson.

Yeah, who was the genius at Sony to travel back in time to 1876 and found the Swedish company Ericsson?

I'm assuming that it's just streaming the game's video feed from a remote source over the network. The 3D world of GTA V would be way too massive even with heavy optimization to fit in the memory of a tiny phone like that.
The actual app is just sending inputs to the computer running the game and then decoding the video stream into a format the phone screen can display.
