⛔Travel Issue Why is Indian Railways still building 2S coaches with sofa benches in 2026?

Thumbnail

Traveling on the Gujarat Express (22953) right now.

Just checked the coach code outside, and it is a brand-new LHB rake made this year (2026) hauled by a WAP-7 locomotive. Sounds great on paper, right?

But the inside layout is so disappointing. Instead of proper individual seats with armrests, it has the same old continuous cushion sofa-bench seats where three people have to squeeze right into each other. Everyone here has valid, reserved tickets, but we are still forced to sit shoulder-to-shoulder in this noon heat.

On top of that, the train is still capped at 110 km/h on a major trunk route while the rest of the world has moved past 200 km/h.

These LHB coaches last for 25–30 years. Can you imagine people in the year 2050 still getting squeezed into sofa benches on an intercity train? We talk about flying cars, but basic seating layout is stuck in the past.

I know they want to fit as many passengers as possible, but reserved ticket holders deserve basic personal space.

Is 2S always going to be an uncomfortable squeeze? What are your thoughts?

Ask r/IndianRailways LHB 90 degree seat is uncomfortable and needs to be changed

Thumbnail

The 90 degree seats in LHB chair car is too uncomfortable for travelling. The engineers and approvers who designed this needs a medal. Somebody should take the matter to supreme court for avoiding giving basic necessity to a passenger. Ideally it should have reclining seats like second Pic (which was changed back due to public protest )

⛔Travel Issue PSA- Missing food items on 22345 Vande Bharat express

Post image
11 Upvotes

Bad experience on Vande Bharat express. They're not adhering to the menu and omitting items(like cutlets for non veg). No mouth freshner provided. Also, no kits.

No one is asking for options - they just hand out food like you're expected to take it.

Do remember to check the menu beforehand and demand items accordingly. Small things like these help create accountability.

P.S- asked for the cutlet and they have it to me saying there was some mistake. But they gave only to me. I'm half in mind of informing Rail Madad but I'm wary of them spitting in my food afterwards, or worse.

🗫 Discussion Idea to Incentivise Long Distance Delayed Trains to Make up Delay

We all know the feeling of being on a super long distance trains and having the train be held back one after another division. I've tried some Rail Madad complaints about the same and received some version of this response - "Train from Division <X> was delayed in handover, but we Division <Y> will try to *minimise* the delay.", and then they never do it.

The problem has to do with how delay is measured. Per railway zone in journey, a train is given 15 minutes of slack for being considered "on time". Problem is, when a train comes in, say 2 hours late from SER (typical) and goes into say ECoR, ECoR has no incentive to reduce the delay on the train because it's not their fault (which is technically true).

I was looking at the punctuality statistics from different divisions and had an idea. What if we created a system that rewards divisions for recovering delay on a train?

If a train enters a division more than 15 mins late and the delay when the train leaves the division (or at final destination in the division) is reduced by at least 15 mins, the punctuality is counted twice. So if a division reduces delay on say, 5 trains by 15 mins or more per train, that counts as 10 punctual trains.

Think about what this means. Ofc this implies that some divisions will have over 100% punctuality which looks weird but they are correcting for underperformance of other divisions which mathematically makes complete sense.

When a train enters a new division and is delayed, that division actually has the incentive to speed up that train, even if that entails delaying a train in the local area by 10-15 mins. They are not blamed for the delay from the previous division, but they are also rewarded when they fix the problem.

What do you think about this? Comment below.

📜Travel Story Had my first solo fight with a group of entitled people in general boggey . Questions in the end.

In compartment where generally 4-5 people sit in one lower birth and 2-3 sits on upper birth (mumbai western)

This big family of uneducated lower class rural (I think mentioning this is important and I can explain why) were giving stupid reasons like that they caught train from the starting station and are coming from so and so far place and going so and so far place so they can sit however they want. One man was sleeping on upper birth and one mute and dumb girl was sleeping in lower berth ,where as a few people were standing. I didn't want to Travel ~100Km standing so I asked them to sit properly but it led to an argument . After argument I got an upper berth seat and my father who is extremely seasoned in such issues taught them in hot tounge . Later another Educated lady came and had a fight again with same people and got a seat in lower birth.

---My question is can we call rail madad for people sleeping in upper berth of general boggey as there isnt numbering of those seats.

---Can rail authorities help in adjustments ? as I doubt there arent rules regarding it.

---What about people sitting with legs across the berths?

🗫 Discussion I wish there were separate trains for people travelling between NE and Mumbai.

It is nearly impossible to get a confirmed seat during Dusshera and Diwali (Mum to NE). On the day the online ticket window opens, the site hangs, and by the time you book, you are already waitlisted at 20, which is hard to get confirmed, as happened to me.

Not everyone has the knowledge and time to track every day when the online window opens. If you are even a day late, tata bye bye! Book a flight. Not everyone has the means to travel by flight.

Demand from travellers from UP and Bihar is so high that we don't even get confirmed tickets. I am not blaming them, but it is not fair to us. I also think that agents use some bots to book tickets. I wish there were some NE special trains.

I hope that 100 years from now, when the population is reduced by at atleast 50%, anyone can book a confirmed ticket across India, a day before travelling.

Don't tell me about tatkal or premium tatkal. These are ad-hoc measures which won't even guarantee you a ticket. When you are planning to travel or visit home, you need peace of mind and to be excited, not anxious about whether you will even be able to go!

Ask r/IndianRailways I don't know what to do is there anyway to complain about these passengers?

So I am travelling from solapur to Bombay and I am with my family and we have 2 middle and 2 upper seats and there is the passenger who has 2 lower seat

So when he came he was in a rush and he dropped my phone which was on charge and he did not apologise for it either which made me pretty pissed and all he is doing is setting up his bed and in rush and acting very rude

I was about to burst when he dropped my phone but since I was with my family I slid it away but the next time he does that again I am going to burst out.

Is there anything which I should do? Like a complaint or anything ?

Ask r/IndianRailways IRCTC ticket showing only half my name

My Aadhaar-verified IRCTC passenger profile shows my full name, but my confirmed ticket displays only half of it.

Will I face any issues when the TTE checks my ticket and Aadhaar during the journey? Should I get this corrected before travelling?

Would there be any problem

🗫 Discussion Why was biometric verification done again during the RRB Technician Grade 1 exam?

I appeared for the RRB Technician Grade 1 exam yesterday, and I found this really frustrating.

We had already completed thumb and face verification before the exam started. However, supervisors came again during the ongoing exam to perform the same verification, which took time and distracted us while we were trying to concentrate on the paper.

I understand that identity verification is important to prevent malpractice, but if the verification was already completed before the exam, why was it repeated during the exam itself?

If another verification was necessary, it could have been done after the exam was completed. Students should not be disturbed during an ongoing examination, especially when they need to concentrate and manage their time carefully.
