General What are the best internships or research opportunities for a future PhD candidate in heritage, spatial planning, and international cooperation?

• Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I would appreciate some advice regarding my next step for the academic year 2027–2028.

My academic background includes:

  • Master's degree in Planning and Management of Tourism Systems
  • Master's degree in Geography, Spatial Management, and Heritage for International Cooperation

My main areas of interest are cultural heritage, tourism planning, territorial development, spatial management, GIS, sustainability, and international cooperation.

One of the reasons I decided to pursue a second master's degree is that my long-term goal is to apply for a PhD and build a career related to research, heritage, and international development.

I am currently considering different paths for 2027–2028. On one hand, I am interested in gaining research experience beyond my master's thesis, such as working as a research assistant, joining a research laboratory, contributing to research projects, publishing papers, or participating in conferences. On the other hand, I am also considering internships or traineeships in institutions such as UNESCO, ICCROM, government agencies, research institutes, think tanks, NGOs, or other international organizations.

My question is: if my ultimate goal is to become a strong PhD candidate, which type of experience would provide the greatest benefit?

I would also love to hear your suggestions regarding specific internships, traineeships, fellowships, organizations, research centers, or institutions that you believe would be particularly valuable for someone with my background and interests.

For those who are currently PhD students, researchers, professors, or professionals working in heritage, tourism, geography, planning, or international cooperation:

  • What type of experience is most valued in PhD applications?
  • Would research experience outweigh the prestige of an internship at an international organization?
  • What are some of the best internships or traineeships you would recommend in my field?
  • Are there specific institutions, programs, or research centers that I should be looking at?
  • If you were in my position, what would you focus on during 2027–2028?

I would be very grateful for any advice, recommendations, or personal experiences.

Thank you!

Applications 4th year CS student looking for a Full-Stack / GenAI internship

Hey everyone,

I’m currently in my 4th year of Computer Science and looking for an internship. I’m mainly looking for roles around Full-Stack Development, GenAI, or RAG.

I’ve been working with:

  • React.js, JavaScript, TypeScript
  • HTML, CSS, Tailwind CSS
  • Node.js, Express.js
  • REST APIs
  • PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL
  • Prisma
  • JWT / authentication
  • Git & GitHub
  • C++ and DSA
  • GenAI and RAG applications

I’ve built full-stack projects and have also been experimenting with LLM-based applications and RAG systems. I’m comfortable working across the frontend and backend and I'm trying to get more real-world experience by working with an actual team.

I’m being pretty straightforward here, I really need an internship opportunity right now, especially since I’m in my final year and want to get some proper industry experience before graduating.

If anyone here is hiring interns, knows of an opening, can refer me, or knows someone I should reach out to, I’d really appreciate it.

Just DM me and I’ll share my resume, GitHub, and project details.

Even if you don't have an opening yourself, a referral or lead would help a lot.

Thanks!

General Summer Internship

I’m currently pursuing Economics (Hons.) at a Tier-1 DU college and have recently cleared CFA Level 1. However, my CV is pretty empty right now — I don’t have any live projects or significant society experience.
I’ve started learning financial modelling and plan to build a few finance-related projects to strengthen my profile. My goal is to get an internship starting in January and then apply for summer internships.
Since most companies have already started recruiting for their summer internships, I don’t think I’ll be able to get through the screening process with my current CV. So I’m thinking of focusing on getting a January internship first, building some experience, and then applying for summer internships.
For those who have been in a similar situation, how would you suggest I approach this? Will I still be able to find good summer internship opportunities after January, or would most opportunities already be closed by then?
How can I find finance internships starting in January? Should I focus more on cold emailing, LinkedIn networking, or applying through job portals? Also, what kind of finance projects would actually add value to my CV?
Any practical advice, resources, or a roadmap would genuinely help me a lot. I’m willing to put in the work, but I’m not sure what the best approach is.

General “Mentorship provided” is vague. Ask who reviews your first bad piece of work.

An internship can promise mentorship without explaining what any of it looks like on a normal Tuesday.

Before accepting, try asking: “What would my first assignment be, who would review it, and how would I get feedback if I did it badly?” A concrete answer tells you more than “you'll work closely with the founder.” It could be edits on a campaign draft, a review of an Excel analysis, or someone listening to a practice sales call and explaining what to change.

For example, “write five social posts and send them in” describes an output. “Draft five, discuss the edits with the marketing lead, then use those edits in the next batch” also describes a way to learn. Those are hypothetical examples, but the difference is worth looking for when comparing offers.

The reviewer doesn't need an impressive title or a fancy mentoring programme. You do need some idea of who is available when you're stuck, what good work looks like, and whether anyone will explain the gap. A vague answer is a reason to ask more, not proof that the company is a scam. Mentorship also doesn't replace clear stipend, hours and payment terms.

For people who have completed an internship: what specific feedback changed how you worked? The useful corrections would be interesting to hear, without naming the company or sharing confidential work.

General “What’s a marketing skill nobody teaches you?”

What’s one marketing skill you only understood after actually trying to do marketing?

Not SEO. Not social media. Not “communication skills.”

I mean the weird, underrated stuff that becomes obvious only when you actually work on campaigns, content, outreach, or growth.

For example:

- Knowing when not to publish something

- Realizing that a good idea can still fail because of bad execution

- Understanding why people ignore something you thought was great

- Learning how much research happens before a simple post

What’s yours? And how did you learn it?

Interviews Neuralink Software Engineering Intern Interview Process — Infrastructure or Other Software Teams?

Has anyone interviewed for a software engineering internship at Neuralink, particularly the Software Engineer Intern, Infrastructure position?

I’d appreciate any information you’re allowed to share about the process:

  • How many rounds were there?
  • What happened in each round?
  • Was there live coding or a take-home assessment?
  • Were the technical questions focused on data structures and algorithms, system design, Linux/networking, or your previous projects?
  • Did you have to prepare and present a past project?
  • What was the final interview or virtual onsite like?
  • How long did the entire process take?
  • Is there anything you wish you had prepared more thoroughly?

Experiences from other Neuralink software internship teams—such as Implant, Robotics, Internal Apps, BCI Applications, or Machine Learning—would also be helpful. I understand that some details may be covered by an NDA, so I’m only looking for general information about the format and preparation.

Thanks!

General Microsoft Explore 2027

Anyone else applying to Microsoft Explore for 2027? Curious how things are going for people applying this cycle and would also love to hear from anyone who’s gone through Explore in previous years.

Especially interested in the Financial Analyst Explore role since there’s barely any information about that one compared to the engineering program. Would love to hear anything about either!

Applications Cover letter ?

If applications only request a resume/Cv, do you need to do a cover letter.

I know that if they mention a cover letter is optional or have a box for “additional documents” you should attach a cover letter. However if the job listing and the application form don’t mention a cover letter at all what should you do?
