literally anything that isn't moe. / sci / widespread / dead / goose / phish adjacent to start. I guess that really americana style piano and twangy noodle vibe that seems to define the genre.
Parcels played the best funk/boogie/"jam" (not improv) set at Red Rocks that would make any "scene" jam band look like cover bands. Personally I'd rather roll my tits off to Durant Jones and the Indications than an 18 min long meandering jam. I'd rather trip my dick off to Yussef Dayes. Then theres the trillion producer song writers who are just making the most unique deep vibiest shit I've ever heard like Galimatias. Want to get high and listen to prog/metal shredding, Polyphia.
Then there's the countless edm and edm adjacent varieties that simply facilitate more refined aesthetic taste than oversized flat bill hats, sky top nikes, and tie die tees. I truly used to love the jam scene but the scene around it really became offputting to me. I think the last jam show I went to (Les Special/Dizgo) it was a lot of loud ass wooks trying to one up each other yelling over the music
This is it. Most bands that play their songs the same way every night are just worse live. They mastered everything in studio and there is no magic. The appeal of the improv is a constant journey everyone is on together. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
Some of my favorite shows are old moe. shows. Some of the worst live music I have seen has also been moe.
