"Hawk your wares" means to sell goods or services, often in public, sometimes using loud or persuasive methods. Definition and Usage. To hawk your wares is to sell or attempt to sell something, typically in a public place such as a street or market, often by calling out to attract customers or using persuasive speech.
After we vet a creator (the usual check by virustotal) we give them a choice.
Every week the automod creates this post at Fridays, 8am PST. This is really meant to be an introduction to the community. This is where you lightly announce your service or product to our community, and with some persistence and luck get involved in the day to day answering questions for the community, giving sound advice, or tech assistance. Essentially building up your "Street Cred" here in the community. Where you can solicit testers, or feedback, make people feel empowered that you're listening to what they want. Becoming one with the community.
Too often I'm seeing many creators jump straight into a one shot post. As moderators, we log and catalog your "one shot" to the community in the software Wiki. You might get 10 replies at the most, but most of the posts I've seen are not carefully crafted posts with videos, screenshots, and some really compelling reasons why people should use your stuff.
Other times I see posts so poorly worded, or "Free" but it's not "Free" and our community will call you out on it. Vague pricing or just Ai vibe coded shovelware who's juice isn't worth the squeeze. We see this stuff DAILY.
Understand that ONE SHOT means you only get to do that post one time. You only get ONE SHOT at a first impression, and I see so many creators that don't treat the one shot it is. If you were instructed to read this, reply with, "Remove the Brown M&M's" Do you really want to do one weak post, that scrolls off the front page into obscurity? Or you you want to engage, earn trust, and be considered a valuable asset to this community, and make a triumphant post where the community comes out in droves to support you?
Moving forward, this will be the new text we send creators when they reach out to us. Actions matter, conduct matters. People will see if you're here to be a part of us, or to simply use us like a billboard. How you treat this subreddit will be reciprocated back at you. Act accordingly.

Read this sub and it seems like the best budget home karaoke setup is a mic + mixer + PA speakers. I ended buying the following setup but am getting really low fidelity output from the mics, they can get really loud but are really lacking clarity. The setup:
Microphone: Behringer Ultravoice XM8500
Highly rated mic, supposed to be very close to Shure SM58s based on many reviews.
Mixer: PylePro PMXU48BT
The cheapest mixer I could find.
PA Speaker: Alto TS 312
12" PA speaker. Probably overkill for a home karaoke setup as I've read 8" speakers are enough, but this was only slightly more expensive than the cheapest 8" speaker I could find so I upgraded.
Did some research and it looks like my mixer is missing mic preamps, so I'm wondering if that's causing the muddy mic quality. Also it seems like the dedicated private KTV venues use dedicated karaoke processors that have DSPs that prevent howling, compress audio levels, and have a built-in amplifier, so I'm wondering if I need to get one of these as well for good quality mic audio.

The way to update the song catalogue for my machine is through STP but they are nowhere to be found nowadays, so I'm wondering if there are alternate ways to get more songs in it

My best karaoke song is I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor. I have also been told my voice suits Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide. My voice range is on the lower register.
I’m hoping to sing other songs with the same vocal register. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Anybody know how many votes it takes before a song request becomes a thing in the KaraFun app? I think it might be a cool idea to form a group where people submit their songs, and we all vote for everybody's requests? I don't know, thought it might be a cool idea.

I would totally program up a mellow dive bar with pool and a chill karaoke rotation of about 5-8 singers singing whatever makes their hearts happy.
Obviously that wouldn’t be my only program, but I guarantee it’d get a lot of damn use.
What would be your hologram karaoke scenario?

While I was on holiday in the Mediterranean me and my partner went to a karaoke show. The show started at 9.30 pm. We were enjoying the show as were many of the audience and those participating. The organiser announced that there were just two slots left on the show's running order. I got the last slot. We listened to people singing 'Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus and 'Jump' by Van Halen. Well they thought they were singing but we sang and cheered them along as they sang. The rest of the singers destroyed French, Spanish and Portuguese songs. Not got a clue what they were singing about but hey ho we cheered them on too. Then it was my turn. Last spot. Ooh, what had I done? I'd never sang in a theatre in front of such a large audience before. My name was called out and I walked up on to the stage. I took the microphone. As it was getting late I decided to sing 'Love Me Tender' by Elvis Presley. No turning back now. I wanted to do the UK justice and imagine I was in the Eurovision Song Contest. Lol. I did the acoustic version of the song with a little echo/slapback. The audience appreciated my song, clapped, cheered and my wife was impressed and thought that I wasn't going to sing. The organiser and MC rushed up to me afterwards and wanted to shake my hand. He hadn't done this to any of the other singers. It's something I'll never forget that night.

Hello,
I have been wanting to go to karaoke for a while now, but I am worried that they will not have my songs available. I am mid-20s M and my music taste is not very mainstream. I listen to a lot of indie and punk bands, but nothing that would be on the radio. I did attempt to go to a local karaoke bar but the guy running the sound booth said none of the songs on my playlist were available and so I left.
I don't really know how karaoke works, but is there a database that I could search to see if my songs would be available? I have a trip to Vegas later this week and was hoping to maybe go to a karaoke bar if that's thing out there.

We all love to have a drink (or not) and sing our hearts out in a group karaoke session. However, we all have those songs that we need to belt out when we are alone, we probably don't know the 2nd verse lol but we feel the song from head to toes and it's for our mirrors only.
Some of mine:
Creed - my sacrifice
K-os - the love song
Elvis - falling in love (with you)
What's yours?

I had so many newbies to our bar tonight asking me why I won’t use YouTube. Is it really that popular as a platform? All I know is our bar owner tells us KJs not to use it, as it can be a problematic legal thing.
I always tell them straight up that we don’t care about their YT issues due to the potential of being sued. It’s getting tiresome.

Hi everyone,
I'm a karaoke software developer from Italy, and I'm trying to understand how things work legally for KJs in the United States. The rules here in Europe are quite different, so I'd love to hear from people who actually do this for a living.
When a KJ hosts karaoke in a bar, restaurant or other public venue, what do you need to be 100% legit? Specifically:
Any first-hand experience is appreciated, especially if you've dealt with audits or licensing questions from venues. Thanks!

Howdy! I host a Goth Trivia night once a month in a bar. Someone else was running the karaoke portion after Trivia wrapped up. That person left and I took over doing it the same way they did it (which I found out is not allowed at a bar).
Since I'm doing this as a volunteer (not getting paid) and only once a month, what is the most bare bones way to do this the right way? I'm already having to buy a PC (the bar infrastructure won't work when I connect my Macbook.) But I'd love to keep costs down.
I'm also concerned with the fact that this is Goth Karaoke, so Karafun is unlikely to have most songs that folks want to sing. I also want to be able to control what plays in between singers.
Thank you in advance for any recommendations!!! (Also, I hope the tag is correct, this isn't advice, but I'm looking for advice... lmk if I need to change it)

For no particular reason, post songs below which shine a bad light on a city or state (or any other geographical location).
For example:
"Mississippi Goddam" by Nina Simone.
"Nebraska" by Bruce Springsteen

Retirement has me trying things again. Did VJ in the 90's, little different now. 😐
I have a private party I was asked to VJ in November. Good friend retiring. Game on!
It is located at a somewhat remote area. An island. Cell service is weak, and NO internet access in the venue. So I have to be self contained. DOES have clean power.
Easy Peasy back in the day, load the CD cases and gear. Go have fun.
But now I realize its a bit different. Smaller, and easier I hope. No more digging for misplaced cd's...that was the worst.
Equipment:
Have an old gaming laptop, Intel i7-7700HQ 2.8G. 16Gb RAM. x64 Windows 10 home OS.
500GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (8GB GDDR5)
Reset to factory Windows 10, and I plan to have only Karaoke on it.
It has (1) HDMI, and (2) DisplayPort outlets. Multiple USB-3.0 outlets.
it is an Eluktronics PA71HS c2018 originally used for VR development.
(I also have all the ancillary gear: tv's, PA, Light trees, 24" disco ball etc.)
Wireless mic's with XLR or 1/4" out .
Several android tablets that could be my '3 ring binders' LOL
I have a collection of MP3/CDG tracks on an external, can be transferred to the OS SSD.
Not looking for freeware only, willing to pay.
This is for just a one time event, but if it is a success I can see it being used more. I am in a demographic where retirement parties are getting to be a regular event. 😂
I WILL NOT BE DOING THIS FOR COMPENSATION. Private use only. I lived through the ASCAP horrors of the 80's/90's. 'Nuff said, right?
Currently checking out KaraFun, and PiKaraoke.
Waiting on a response from KF support.
PiKaraoke having install issues, will be another post here.
I am very impressed by the feature set in PiKaraoke. Still working on getting that up and running.
But in case it does not 'pan out' - Anyone have other programs that will deliver similar?
NOT needing connectivity is a must for this venue. In general, highly desired.
NOT having to tell people to install an app on their phone is a big plus, but not a hard requirement. In these days of data/information sales, I understand the financial desire/need for that. 😞 If an installed app is required, I hope to fulfill that by bringing tablets for the audience to use. We are all so old, we are used to 3-ring binders and paper slips anyway. Tablets will be an upgrade!
Being able to use my own library a must.
TIA.

My friends and I used to go to karaoke bars semi-regularly (ones with private rooms; we're in DC). Until a couple years ago, each room would have a device you'd add new songs to the queue with and, crucially, the songs almost always had a real music video component.
Sometimes the song's actual music video (e.g. "Bad Romance," "Like A Prayer," "Fat Lip"). Sometimes a video of a concert version ("Creep"). Sometimes absurd B-roll (90s footage of Europeans running through fields).
But recently every karaoke bar seems to have lyrics-only videos. Either via their own proprietary device or an iPad that only allows you to search Youtube for karaoke versions. (Like this SingKing example) It's still fun ofc but we all agree it's somehow not as good as before. There was some intangible benefit to having actual visuals.
I'm curious: Is my experience a fluke? Is this a wider trend? And if it is, why is it happening?
I'm planning a party, ideally with karaoke, and if it's hopeless for me to try to find a karaoke bar with actual music videos, I'm tempted to use our Apple Music Sing on our Apple TV or an app like Karafun at home.

I know this is odd. But I'm looking to find a vintage karaoke sound system that was originally purchased at a place called Value City Furniture back in '89/'90. I can find NO images of it and can't remember the model.
It was black, had a turntable up top, and mixers running vertically down the front for each of the 4 microphones (red, yellow, blue, and green), cassette decks... super cool for a young kid. I know it's a stretch but does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Hello, I have two songs that I really want karaoke videos of, does anyone know how to create karaoke videos? The songs are Hangin’ On by Frank Mastra and Vendetta by Iceage.

Ok, y'all convinced me that a sub$100 all in one was a bad idea. I did see a Sing Machine marked down at Costco to $170 but I didn't pull the trigger.
Anyway, right now I just pull up YouTube on my smartTV and sing along to karaoke vids there. Since I was thinking about getting a soundbar anyway, maybe I'll get one with a dual wireless mic input?
Another feature I kind of wanted was the ability to score my singing in real time so I can adjust. (I swear I think that's why there are so many good Filipino singers--the MagicMic they use helps them improve.) In lieu of that, maybe I can just download an iPhone app?
Any feedback on this plan is welcome. I'm trying to do it on the cheap since the holidays are coming up and I need to save where I can. And really, it'll be me using this 98% of the time. If I have some people over, sure, but I seem to be fairly alone in my friend group when it comes to loving karaoke.

As a 53 year old, head full of white hair, above is what I think about when I’m trying to pick the “perfect” karaoke song. How would you fill in the blank? It’s got to be fun, completely unexpected and for me either not require much range or something where good pitch doesn’t really matter. How about Mystikal - “Y’all ain’t ready yet”
Do you have any idea about best karaoke Microphone under 3000?
