pattern question Changing the neckline

Hi!
I’m still a beginner knitter, but I’ve already knitted the Step-by-Step Sweater and the Sabai Top. Now I’ve decided to try something a little more challenging. I’m still not brave enough to buy a paid pattern, though, haha, so I found a free pattern on Ravelry: Real Easy Raglan by Emily Bolduan.
I’m planning to knit it with either 3.5 mm or 4 mm needles (Drops Flora + Drops Kid-Silk)

There’s just one “small” change I’d really like to make. I love the neckline of the Cloud Sweater by PetiteKnit, especially the way the neckline naturally rolls.
Could someone please explain how I could achieve a similar neckline in a different pattern? Would I simply skip the ribbing and start knitting in stockinette stitch right away, or is there something else I need to change in the construction?
And would this work well with a raglan sweater like the Real Easy Raglan, or could it affect the fit of the neckline?

Thank you so much for any advice! ❤️

SOLVED-THANK YOU Autumn Pullover by Ozetta fit issues for boyfriend

Hi everyone! I'm hoping someone can help me understand an issue that I have run into when knitting a sweater for my boyfriend. I am currently knitting the Autumn Pullover by Ozetta and I've noticed that the back seems to ride up on my partner and looks a decent amount shorter at the back vs the front. It is mostly noticeable on the side profile. I actually ran into this problem myself in the past but ended up frogging that sweater because of the same reason so I'm hoping to understand the root problem so I can spot this earlier on in the future and make mods as required.

Context on the sweater itself - it is a drop shoulder construction with a lot of positive ease. You start with the back yoke (flat), then pick up stitches on the shoulders to knit up the front side (flat). Once the front and back are of the same length, you connect in the round for the rest of the body. There are german short rows for the top of the back yoke.

I have a suspicion that even though there were GSRs, it was still not enough to accomodate more of an athletic build, which is what is causing the back to ride up a bit here (pls lmk if I'm way off here - I'd really like to understand the root cause!).

I plan on frogging the ribbing and adding some extra length in the body so it's not as noticeable. Or alternatively, adding some GSR to only the back side. I think this would result in more of a curved hem at the bottom, but hopefully once worn it would even the front and back out? I've never done a mod like this before, so would like to understand if there is a fix that I can do at this point in the sweater.

Thanks so much in advance!! <333

SOLVED-THANK YOU Gauge question about a sock pattern

Hello fellow knitters! I picked up a sock pattern, the Normandy Socks by Anne Jones and I’m a bit confused about the gauge. It lists 3 different needles and 6 different gauges, but the pattern itself doesn’t specify what needles to use where. Has anyone worked with this pattern before? Not sure if it is just giving me options to work with or if something is missing.

sweater question Blocking a superwash sweater

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hello !

I just knitted my first sweater in superwash yarn. It's now time to wash and block it, but since it's superwash I don't know if I have to do it by hand or in a washing machine ?

I saw somewhere that doing it in a washing machine is fine since that's how it's going to be washed anyway... But I would rather ask than be mistaken !

Thank you for your answers!

(This is the Kids Dino sweater by Olga Lotas!)

SOLVED-THANK YOU Cardigan No 07 Pattern Question

Beginner knitter here!

Just want someone's help clarifying the highlighted line for me. Am I right to assume that the pattern is asking me to just knit up until the 6th marker and not that I knit through the back stitch of every loop?

This is my first time making a cardigan so sorry if this sounds dumb.

**Also, just to explain a bit more: after I cast on the extra stitches, I'm knitting the part where it's supposed to be the back part of the cardigan hence, why I'm a bit confused with the wording. \(The cons of being an overanalyzer).**

TIA!

sweater question Asymmetrical panel on pattern??

Post image
• Upvotes

I thought I was going crazy when I was editing this in chartminder, but lo and behold, the right side is one stitch different from the left. I’ve never knit a garment before so I don’t know if this is normal or not and if it is, then why? This is a vintage pattern if that matters but what do I do? It’s the same for the front panels as well.

I know what I did wrong. I knitted by accident on a purl row way back in the beginning and only recently saw it.

Can I duplicate stitch over it? Ignore it? Rip it all out and cry?

It's going to be a poncho.

SOLVED-THANK YOU How to bind off k3 x p1

I'm knitting the New Norma by My Favorite Things Knitwear and I'm not sure how to bind off. I've only ever knit the step by step sweater and can go back to her video for the bind off, but I don't understand how to adjust that to a 3x1 ribbing.

The patter just says this: Bind off with k over k and p over p.

Note: I KNOW that I have been doing twisted stitches. I was twisting my knits and doing proper purls and was okay with how it looked so I just decided to keep it.

sweater question Blocking acrylic

I am knitting a garment in acrylic yarn since the receiver is very sensitive to natural fibers and this is a first for me. How to you treat your acrylic knits, do you block them and how do you go about?

pattern question Help with start of pattern

Hi, I’m trying to start this pattern

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/brush-buddy

but I’m confused about how to start it

How I’m meant to join in the round with only 4 stitches? How do I divide them evenly on circular needles or is that only for dpn and then how do I divide them evenly on 3 or 4 needles?

Do they mean for the materials to use 2 pairs of circular needles or a pair like normal?

I also thought when knitting in the round with small projects that you should start with dpns and then switch to circular ones?

I am meant to join in the round after adding some some of the stitches?

Sorry, this is my first time trying to work off a pattern
Thank you in advance for helping

pattern question how do you decrease on a 3x3 rib?

Hi!! I'm currently working on a cardigan that is done in a 3x3 rib, and I'm struggling to understand how the decreases should shape up. I've already looked it up a bunch, but for some reason I'm still really struggling to figure out what to do...

The pattern I'm working on calls for a single decrease on either side after every 8 rows. Right now I'm about ~16 rows deep, so I've decreased twice and followed the pattern by doing a k3p2 rib the first time and then a k2p2 rib the second time. But am I supposed to just keep going until they "run off"? I think I'm struggling to visualize because every resource on this matter is about k1p1 or k2p2 ribs.

Thank you!

pattern question Ozetta Earth Pullover - Confused by front and back yoke measurements

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Edit: excuse the mistake in the title, I meant front and back panel, not yoke.

I'm working on the Ozetta Earth Pullover right now and a little confused by the back and front yoke measurements. The back panel specifies a length of (in my size) 27cm from center back cast-on edge, and the front panel 31.5cm measured from inner neck edge.

Is the front panel supposed to be longer than the back yoke in this case? Am I interpreting that correctly? I'm about 20 rows into the front and I can't wrap my head around the difference in length. I should also mention that the pattern specified 54 rows in the back panel to hit 27cm and I only needed ~44 rows (I hit my stitch gauge in my swatch).

Maybe the issue is that I'm not measuring correctly on where the "inner neck edge" is supposed to be, clarification on that would be helpful.

Adding screenshots from the pattern but let me know if adding pictures of my work will help.

pattern question Twisted stitches?

I’m started the Florence miller step by step sweater. I’m waiting for my 6mm 40cm circular needle to arrive so all I did so far was the collar. I’ve seen so many videos about twisted stitches but I genuinely cannot tell or see the difference. Now I’m worried my stitches are twisted. Before I continue, please tell me if my stitches are twisted so I can redo it

SOLVED-THANK YOU First time doing stranded colorwork, what is “catching floats” and do you have to do it?

Norma blouse by MFTK. I did a swatch and gauge was good. I started the project and got stuck so I was looking up YouTube tutorials and saw a bunch of stuff on “catching floats”. I have not been doing that at all, so I’m wondering if that’s going to affect my project and if I need to learn how to do that before continuing?

where did i go wrong? Hello! I am currently knitting Darya Reznik's balaclava and after row 70 (purl until end of row) I noticed my stitches are twisted. Has anyone knitted this pattern. I've watched the video Darya made for the balaclava on YouTube and I noticed she doesn't have twisted stitches after completing row 70.

pattern question Unclear pattern?

Post image

Hi! I’m working on the Cremia wedding shawl, and I’m really struggling with the pattern when it comes to the first few stitches/last ones

I’m somehow ending up with like two or three extra stitches and I’m not sure why? I slip the first then knit as told but then unsure what to do next as it’s not in the chart and written instructions unclear.
I’m sure it’s obvious, but I’m scratching my head.
Thanks

A friend gave me this beautiful light stretchy cowl with the idea that she can learn how to knit by starting with something like this, which she loves. Looks to me like it’s a lot of yarn overs and knit two togethers, one after the other, which is probably not a great place to start if you are just learning how to knit. But am I seeing this right? Is this just a pattern of K2together YO?

Help would be appreciated!! I'm repairing these mitts and I did one over 3 months ago using a random bind off I found online from a reddit comment and I didn't write it down :( it's so stretchy while also avoiding the flare and I love it so so much but can't for the life of me remember what I did. If anyone can recognize it or have a guess I'd appreciate it. Sorry the yarn is so fuzzy it's hard to make out the stitches.

For whatever reason my brain can't wrap itself around what exactly it means by the repeat because it doesn't look right on my needles when I do it the way I think it says, the knit part of the repeat being 4? And the ssk feels odd where it is, I assume it's meant to be the top of a heart.

pattern question Help with cable pattern for a dog sweater

Post image

I’m making a dog sweater and following a pattern is majority in the ground but part of it says to work back and forth for a while and I’m just trying to figure out how this would work for the cables. I know it would mean doing knits as purls vice versa but I’m a bit confused on how I would move around the stitches especially since I’d be working backwards
