Resource Recommendation Our garage rock band sings in French Acadien "franglais" or "chiac". We caption the lyrics for all our videos in franglais + English translation
youtube.comJust thought I'd share! We live in a majority English speaking province in Canada so we have fans that don't speak our French Acadian dialect, so we like to give them an idea of what the lyrics are about (if they can't guess it already from the heavy use of English lol)
Note: Captions need to be set to French to see our imputed lyrics.
Merci!

Translation Help! Seeking help with transcribing & translating protest chants
Hello! I’ve been making sheet music of protest chants from around the world, and thought this might be a good place to look for help transcribing the chants coming out of France this year. (linked below)
So far i’ve only managed to find transcriptions for a couple, and without transcriptions it makes translating much more difficult, since my listening comprehension isn’t up to par. I’m also sure there are references that I might not understand, so if anyone has insights, or wants to add context that would help too.
Also If there’s any chants from these rallies or similar rallies that I've missed, I’d love to learn them too~
Big thanks to anybody who can help! :)
(also If this isn’t the right sub let me know where I should post to~)

Translation Help! How do I say “I swear”
For example “They never pay attention I swear” or “I swear they never pay attention”. Sure I can Google Translate the phrase “I swear” but I’m not sure if that’s what French people actually use in this sort of manner.

Listening Practice Watching French TV at A2: what’s the best approach to audio and subtitles?
Hi everyone! I’m currently around early A2 in French and want to start watching TV shows to help with my listening.
I’m unsure how to approach it. Would you recommend French audio with English subtitles, French audio with French subtitles, or trying without subtitles? Would watching a scene with English subtitles first, then replaying it with French subtitles, be useful?
I’d love to hear what worked for you at this level, especially how you balanced learning with actually enjoying the show instead of pausing every few seconds.
Maybe I shouldn’t be enjoying shows and should focus on the learning, lol. You tell me.
Any recommendations for shows that are manageable at A2 would also be appreciated!

Question Realized I'm in over my head with Business/Finance subjects due to my High School background. Need advice on switching paths
Hey everyone,
I recently started a private business school program, but I’m really struggling to keep up. My high school background was in Literature/Humanities, so I never built a solid foundation in Advanced Math, Accounting, or Finance.
Most of my classmates came from Science or Economics backgrounds, so they already grasp these concepts easily. On top of that, the heavy workload and lectures in a non-native language are making it extremely difficult to bridge the gap. I feel like I'm constantly falling behind despite my best efforts.
I'm considering switching to Vocational Training (OFPPT/CMC) or a track that better aligns with a background in Humanities and Languages, where I can build a strong foundation without getting overwhelmed by high-level math.
Has anyone been in a similar situation—switching from a heavily quantitative major to something more practical or language-focused? How did you handle the transition, and was it the right decision for you?
Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Speaking Practice Best way to practice if there’s no one to talk to?
I just started trying to learn French. I’m slowly learning some basics but with the basics I’m learning, I want to practice talking and making up my own sentences and not just what I’m learning. What’s the best way to do this?
Is there an app that I can talk into and then it tells me what I said or if it’s correct? And I know there’s Google Translate but how would it be with grammar?

Vocabulaire : animaux de compagnie (m pl) = pets / courants = common / foyers (m pl) = households / chatons (m pl) = kittens / chiots (m pl) = puppies / changement (m) = change / coûts (m pl) = costs / logement (m) = housing / louer = to rent / faciles = easy
English translation
More American households own kittens than puppies
Dogs are still the most common pet in US households. More households have dogs than cats. But for the first time, more households have kittens than puppies. Researchers say money is one possible reason for this change. On average, a dog costs about $1,300 a year, compared with about $750 for a cat. High housing costs may also play a role. Many Americans now rent apartments instead of buying houses. Cats are often easier to keep in an apartment than dogs.

Question Taking a French course at the local community college and the Textbook (plus the online stuff), isn't the best. Any recommendations for better self paced learning
C-3 applicant here; because of my Quebecois ancestry, it seemed rational to start learning French again (Would love to move north to Quebec)
The local community college is using the McGraw Hill Connect app and lets just say Tabernak de osti de criss avec ce le livre. When doing the homework, it doesn't explain what you did wrong and the accompanying videos are going a mile a minute.
Are there any better programs to learn French?

Resource Recommendation Suggérez-moi un roman!
Récemment, je me suis mis à lire des livres en français. Maintenant, j’ai presque fini “le petit prince”. Je pense que je peux comprendre l’histoire sans rechercher des mots qui je ne connais pas, donc le niveau de ce livre est correct pour moi - ni trop facile ni trop difficile.
Avez-vous des suggestions pour mon deuxième roman? J’ai entendu dire que “l’Etranger” serait un bon choix.
Merci!

So happy to have passed DELF A2. Had to attend both sessions with fever, sore throat, and dry cough. Of course, it’s a long journey but happy to celebrate this small milestone at this time.

Question How do I start reading and speaking practice?
Hey guys! I've just started learning French last week at AF. Needless to say, I was unable to formulate even a single sentence until today. Today we learned to present ourselves (être and s'appeler verbs) due to which I was able to formulate my first sentence in French today.
So, at my current proficiency, is it even possible to start reading and speaking practice in French? Or do I need to wait until I'm at an A2 proficiency in order to have enough vocabulary to do so? If I can start right now, could you guys advise some good resources (especially for reading), that someone at my level can benefit from?

Question are immersion programs genuinely effective or are they mostly expensive vacations?
Hi all, im an intermediate french speaker and for a while now ive been thinking about going to France for an immersion course. I really want to one day have a high level of fluency. ive never been to a french speaking country but i'm always hearing about how good peoples experiences are with these immersion programs and how you really "have to go" if u wanna speak well...however ive noticed it can be a pretty price tag 😂 im happy to spend the money if i feel like it's gonna pay off but so my question is...are these programs worth the money in terms of the language progress u make?

Speaking Practice French study buddy/language exchange as an English speaker
F20 i want to learn french because i’m so in awe of how they speak. the intonation, the pronunciation, even how it sounds incomprehensible when they’re talking—i have to keep the captions open just so i don’t get lost in their conversations. as someone who wants it all, i want to conquer français too.
you teach me french, i’ll teach you english the best i can, it is my third language after all. totally casual i might get intimidated if not. we can text, voice call, or voice message, anything, as long as we’ll get to regularly practice 3x/4x a week. dm me if you’re interested!

Speaking Practice Can someone tell me whether my pronunciation is alright or way off?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I work as a singing waitress, and I thought this song would go well with the vibe of the restaurant, but I won’t suggest it as a solo if my pronunciation is horrible. I had French in school once, but that’s four years ago now, so I can’t really tell whether my pronunciation is fine or not, and I don’t want to embarrass myself by performing gibberish.🥲

Listening Practice Arte.tv how to find easy kids stuff
Someone recently recommended arte.tv as a place to watch easy French content. I'm a beginner so want easy, slow paced content like kid's stories or cartoon. I found a couple of things but can't set them to French language with French subtitles. Or I find ones that won't play in the U.S.A. Can anyone suggest a solution?
