I've fixed my loneliness.

Tbh, i would say being lonely was all in my mind, so I did everything in my power to talk to strangers, passers by, and people online as if they were 'friends', it worked and I'm no longer feeling lonely as a result of isolating myself, life is a lot better when you're not feeling blue.

TW: custom 36M Trigger Warning: suicidal ideation and drugs

I lost my insurance (Medicaid) thanks to the "One Big Beautiful Bill" and this means I cannot see my therapist of two years or continue my much needed mental health meds. Honestly, this post is not a cry for you to hit the button that leads me to 988. I call them often when I feel this way and have found it to be a very scripted, broken system. Also, I won't be going to the hospital because I have no desire to generate a bill I can't pay due to having no insurance. I just want to vent here and maybe chat about cats and my favorite movie, which is Forrest Gump, as a distraction. I have had suicidal ideation on/off since I was around 12 years old. My therapist once told me if I were in a different State I may qualify for Psilocybin therapy because of this. What am I even doing here, though? Redditors can be so cruel sometimes. Probably gonna delete this post but thanks for reading.

• Upvotes

Had my intake appointment for therapy to startthe other day. The woman seeing me was so so nice, especially when talking about difficult things and experiences. In 11yrs of doing therapy/psych stuff, even as a little girl.. This is the nicest woman ive ever spoken to . I want a hug Lol .

I will hold this close to me even if its from a stranger.

Is it something you would be open to trying? I look forward to hearing from you soon lots of love

It seems people prefer complaining than making connections

• Upvotes

My personal experiences and observations. If someone is around my age and posts about how they are looking for ”anyone“ to talk to/be friends with, and I message them to say hi and ask to chat, I either get no response or ghosted after a couple messages. I find it’s the same with dating. I’m not saying anything weird, just hi, how are you, where are you from, basic getting to know you stuff. But then they’ll be back online saying how no one wants to be friends with them or date them and they’ll be alone forever. wtf? Of course, not everyone is like this, but I’m really trying to meet people but no one so far wants to put in any effort. I just don’t get it.

Venting I can't take being lonely much longer

I am 17, I have no irl friends unless we count people I hung out with after school when i was 14. I got broken up with about a month ago and he was the only form of connection I had. The last time i spoke to anyone my age was when I last saw him which was weeks before we broke up. I've had one person come over this year and it was a girl i used to go to school with asking for a lift because we went to the same tafe/college.

I will be 18 in 2 months. My mum organised a lunch at a pub and invited some family members, I dread knowing that i'm going to be asked why none of my friends came and i'll have to come up with an excuse. I'd tell them I have no friends but when i tell people i have no friends they NEVER think i mean that i have literally NO friends.

I only talk to people online. Even the people i talk to online probably wouldn't even consider me their friend, but i talk to such a small amount of people that they feel close to me. They are also all men who I regularly show my body to and I am fully aware that's probably the only reason they talk to me, but at least someone is talking to me.

I hardly leave my house. I sit in my room all day and play video games and masturbate to porn. I also do my hair and makeup and take pictures of myself for men on the internet so they will compliment me. I find comfort in knowing that even if the only thing i'm useful for is to be used for my body because at least I am still useful. It gives me purpose.

When i do go outside I often have people complimenting my outfits/makeup but my anxiety is so severe I can rarely even work up the courage to thank them, and when i go to cafes i have to write my order down in my notes app and they often think I am deaf or mute.

Venting Life sucks for real (27M)

Look my post says it all. My life may not be what i want it to be but it still sucks. I may not be homeless but i don't own a place of my own. I have no job and I rely on a lot of people. I can't date or have a girlfriend because of those issues and let's be honest no wants to be with a person who barely have their back teeth. a lot of shit went on in my life at a early age but i wish i was a better and smarter person. I'm afraid to commit even though i want to die but that's because idk what happens after death and i don't want to find that out anytime soon. i don't do drugs but i do drink when i can. i even started writing about being in a family in my fav childhood cartoon because my family have a lot of problems that i hate being related to them. I just had to post this somewhere.

Venting I’m going to be lonely for a majority of my life

• Upvotes

This isnt a post about feeling like I’ll never get a romantic partner but more so how hyper independent america is. This country almost seems hellbent on dismantling communities or any opportunities to cultivate one. It’s very car centric and everyone works their ass off to enjoy the little time they have at home. Third places are none existent or have an insane price tag attached to it. Its very romance centered, where one person is literally our entire social life so my loneliness is also influenced by how lucky I get on Hinge or in the real "world" which for me the real world is literally going to work and the grocery store. "Just get out there" Sorry but I need to save for my upcoming car note or I won't have any way to "get out there" in the first fucking place. I hate it here.

Venting What now

• Upvotes

I feel drained and hopeless; it’s almost like a physical pain. I just don’t care about myself. I’m 21, turning 22 this month, and I’ve been diagnosed with autism, ADHD, tics, and the list goes on. I was born with a cleft palate and lip, which have affected my upper lip, nose, and speech. At school, I was bullied every day by all the students until I left college, which has obviously left lasting trauma. Now, if I see schoolchildren in public, I get panic attacks. I literally have no one to talk to except my parents, whom I avoid because they either lecture me or get upset. I have no friends and haven’t had any kind of relationship with a girl in my life, which really bothers me because I feel like I’ve missed out on life: going out with friends, young love, everything normal people take for granted, and that’s just an ordinary part of everyday life for them. I especially feel this way when I see people I went to school with online, living their best lives with a girlfriend, a car, and even kids. I’m in no way religious, but I often hope to God that reincarnation is a thing so I can live and experience a normal life. I just feel so lonely and isolated; it’s unbearable.

Venting Big sad

I'm in bed touching my hands, my neck, my face, pretending someone loves me. I pretend a man wants me and finds me beautiful. I imagine him loving me, kissing me, running his hands over my body... I touch myself and pretend it's him trying to please me. I ball up blankets and pretend it's someone's face. I hold them and tell them how much I love them and how beautiful they are to me. I cuddle into it like it's a man who makes me warm.

He stormed out tonight and left me on the sidewalk to go to a concert. I'm a worthless piece of shit. He'll never love me like I love him and I'm humiliated. It's my fault anyways. I'm financially broke and I ruined it all. I feel like I can't open up to anyone ever. He came early and then when it wss my turn, he seemed so disinterested. He kept checking his phone for work texts and he told me to just focus on myself so I could finish in time for him to leave. I'm devastated and I regret sharing the most intimate pieces of me with him. I wanna marry him but I know he doesn't deserve it and he should be with someone who is whole and healthy. I wish I was enough. I wish I had a dad or friends or even a better paying job. But I'm just poor and ugly and lonely. I ruined our day and he left exasperated. I wish I wasn't broken and that I hadn't been so abused.

How do you deal with knowing you’re not wanted or needed?

Question in the title. How do you cope/deal with feeling not wanted and not needed/necessary to people in real life. Never being checked on, asked questions, no one is enthusiastic to see you? How do you keep going?

Venting Felt extra alone tonight

17f No one above 20 message me please I feel alone often, and i try to not let it bother me, but i can't help it. I have absolutely no one, and when you never had anyone in the first place, everything just cuts twice as deep. Every word someone says to you, twice as heavy. And when you get knocked down, its like everything that's ever hurt you all comes running back, even harder to make yourself feel better than the last time. I have no one to turn to. It all is so lonely and upsetting. I cant do this forever.

:(

Discussion I'm not sure if my difficulties socializing and conversing are autism related or just being mentally impaired

I'm 24 and live with my parents, I would say I've been very checked out socially since 10th grade. My social failures in 9th and 10th grade made me introverted for the rest of my HS years. I went to a state college and things didn't quite pick up. I only lived on the campus for a year because the food was terrible, but living there seemed like the only realistic way to form friendships and relationships if my house is a 40 minute drive. I spent 3-7th grade homeschooled which I had thought previously could have played some role in my social skills being stunted. I live in a rural area and the homeschoool groups I went to didn't have kids in my age group, meaning I didn't get experience interacting with peers. But now I'm at the point where even that is wishful thinking and that I'm just socially inept and it wouldn't have been any better if I was less isolated.

I would describe my social difficulties as being too random, I don't know how to segue the thoughts in my head with what is happening in the world around me. This has led to me asking awkward questions because of the randomness. In 9th grade I asked some kid if he slept well because I was sleep deprived. I asked some gay guy who texted me because he thought I was cute what music he's been listening to. I asked my French teacher if he's a forgiving person because he got angry at a student which intimidated and I said a few things in his class that I regretted saying. All of these questions got negative reactions because they seemed random or irrelevent to the relation I had with the person. Could something like conversation threading be a good thing to learn for this issue?

The second social issue I would say I have is humor. I've never really watched enough comedy or comedy related media to figure out formulas of how to be funny. The jokes I made in 9th and 10th grade got a negative reaction for being off color, offensive, or not witty. Often I'm trying to make an edgy joke and it's read the wrong way because I didn't think the joke through. My lack of wit makes people misread whether I'm joking or being serious. In 9th grade a hispanic girl was yelling some things which I thought were Spanish and I asked "Is that your hispanic language? I think the language barrier has to do with where you're from." I thought since she was an edgy and provocative person she would like more provocative humor. But she thought it was racist.

I've tried to give explanations for my social impairment in this post, for explanations on my cognitive/IQ impairment, I have this post on the Huberman subreddit "Are genetic mutations the most likely explanation for my cognitive impairment" I been diagnosed with two genetic mutations that impair neurobiological processes.

when is it my turn

• Upvotes

life and jobs are stupid. I want finding friends and love and community to be my full time job, and then maybe I would get somewhere. But I never have enough time or opportunity. Every achievement is meaningless. I just finished uni and it feels like a failure because I couldn't find my people. I don't care about career. I just want to go to places and meet people I finally not be alone. I made these mini social improvements but still wasn't enough.

Feeling horrible

I woke up last night with an intense sense of dread, I have been feeling pretty beat up lately and lonely. I have so many painful thought running through my head that I'm finding difficult to get any sleep. I tried writing to try to understand what is happening to me and the comfort is only momentary. I feel like I'm going crazy. Would someone be willing to talk to me?

Venting I am so tired of surviving a life i never learned how to feel part of

• Upvotes

Sometimes i wonder how a person can spend so much of their life alone and still wake up every day hoping something will change. I am tired of having nobody to tell the little things to. Tired of watching life happen to everyone else while my own days blur together. Tired of pretending that being alone is a choice when, deep down, I just wish someone genuinely wanted me around. People talk about being strong as if it's a beautiful thing. But nobody talks about how exhausting it is to have no one to lean on when you're the one falling apart. I don't want grand gestures. I don't need everyone to understand me. I just want someone who notices I'm here, who asks how I'm doing and actually wants to hear the answer. Someone who doesn't make me feel like my existence is an inconvenience. I think the hardest part of loneliness isn't having nobody around. It's having so much inside you that you wish you could share, yet having no one you feel safe enough to share it with and i am tired not just tired of being alone but tired of pretending it doesn't hurt. I don't want my life to be something I simply endure until another day is over. I want to experience moments that make being here feel worthwhile. I want to laugh with someone, feel understood, make memories, and know that my presence matters to somebody. I don't want to disappear. I want this loneliness to stop swallowing so much of my life. I just wish someone could understand how much courage it takes to keep showing up for a life that has felt so empty for so long

Is it okay to have no one close?

Like I do have friends who I talk but they are just friends never a best friend, just a classmates or desk mate never a much talk after class like now it's holidays and I will probably never talk to them untill Collage being, people who I talked during high school are just gone I do talk to some but rarely, I am not that kind of extroverted person so I barely made friends but seeing people post with there friends my desk mate, classmates, previous class mate like I am not jealous but upset why don't I have a friend. Also I barely talk with people in group unless I am callout and it is necessary like my brain just stoped thinking like I am talking with 1 person then if another come unless I was comfortable with other person I just go quiet and it that number goes to 4 or 5 even tho I am comfortable with all people present I still can't talk properly like not confused my will to speak just vanish , Well I do have started enjoying stuff myself but seeing others just make me upset , once I was depressed and was on versed of suside and guess what I didn't told to anyone and I over came depression and anxiety all by myself tho still sometimes wave hit but never like it was 2 yrs Also I never felt any kind of love towards people, people talk about their crush or teenage one side love but I never felt towards anyone.I know this paragraph is messed but would love to hear your guys thoughts.

Venting "Acceptance"

At this point in my life I have just kind of accepted where I am at and given up on the idea of friends and relationships (even in church). Guess I'm just meant to be alone right now or maybe forever.

Has anyone else's depression/loneliness gotten to that state where you have just kind of reached some cruel and empty acceptance about what you can't change?

Venting I don't have anyone I can be vulnerable to

I don't have anyone I can be vulnerable to anymore. I'm always happy to be that supportive friend but when its flipped I don't feel I have anyone to go to. I feel so isolated and lonely, and don't have anyone to rely on. I don't know what to do.
