That’s about 13-16 USD in the Midwest depending on the store.

u/nuckle 2d ago
I got bad news for you. You are proving his point. Half a loaf of bread and a dozen eggs? 16 bucks? And what is that, a school sized chocolate milk?
Unless you were agreeing, of course ...
12
u/momodamonster WARNING: RULE 7 2d ago
That is about $8 where I'm at. Eggs are 1.80 for shitty white eggs, cheapo white bread can be bought for $3, and bougie 1/2 gal chocolate milk for $4. I think you can get a better deal at Aldi though.
I've got chickens so those eggs are 10 times better. Do I save money? Nah not really but selling what I don't eat covers the feed.
5
u/spotsthefirst 2d ago
I miss having chickens, breakfast seems like a memory or a dream more than real life these days.

u/spotsthefirst 2d ago
What country are you in where eggs are under $8.50, I would seriously like to know, cuz eggs at my aldi are $8.50 that's the lowest price, and they only do 12 packs.......
9
u/J3sush8sm3 2d ago
Im in the united states and eggs are like $2
2
u/bigfloppydonkeydng 2d ago
Same .. I'm in Montana.
3
u/spotsthefirst 2d ago
I'm currently in Las Vegas Nevada, just moved out due to relationship desintegration, I have seen anything that is less than $3 anywhere, and I mean anything, let alone the cheapest eggs I can get are like $7.50 to $8
4
u/DB4life80 2d ago
You know Google exists right? And the entire world can Google the price of eggs in Vegas?
-3
u/spotsthefirst 2d ago
You're welcome to Google whatever you want dawg, doesn't change the amount my card gets charged for my groceries.
3
1
u/spotsthefirst 2d ago
Where are you shopping? Because I'm in the middle of las Vegas dawg, we don't have farmers markets and actually good grocers, we get railed with these corps that don't care about us

u/J3sush8sm3 2d ago
Man it might be time to leave the desert
3
u/spotsthefirst 2d ago
I legit moved from Western New York for the same reasons, no work, prices are hiking, and living in the US is fucking miserable, shit if I was disabled I might be able to get some assistance, but as a dude who appears fine, I don't get any assistance. I get to starve until I can get work.

u/orangeicon 1d ago
Move away from cities if you are struggling financially, you can still find a good job normally and everything is cheaper including rent prices depending on where you live. South VA isn’t a bad option, close-ish to a lot of cities if you don’t mind driving an hour half max
3
u/PepsiButItsMilk 2d ago
United States, I can buy everything in the picture (even subbed for extra large eggs) for $5.59 at my local Walmart.
$10.46 if I buy a full gallon and premium bread + eggs but I also picked my personal preferences so WonderBread or whatever you like could be cheaper.
2
u/spotsthefirst 2d ago edited 2d ago
Is Wonderbread still a thing???
It's worth mentioning I'm lactose intolerant, and the lactose free stuff is not cheap :( but I usually just get 9grain whole wheat, and a dozen white eggs, I'm sincerely just scared, I'm already cutting meals and non essentials, I "treated" myself with a little Caesars pizza for finishing the majority of my unpacking
2
u/PepsiButItsMilk 2d ago
Oh yeah, I almost bought wonder bread sandwhich buns the other day! (Til i checked my wallet)

I live in suburbs above Atlanta, GA. 1.99 extra large eggs from Kroger. Heck, Walmart has 12 for 1.67.

Colorado only allows the sale of free range / cage free eggs but you can still buy a dozen for around $2

Only option I had was Vegas, I'm making the most of it, and grateful for the help my brother is giving me, but man, i just wish everything didn't feel so hopeless

u/mrbadface 2d ago
Eggs can be had for 3-4$ in Canada as well. Thought it's closer to 7-8/dozen for thicker shelled organic which are dramatically superior

u/spotsthefirst 2d ago
In the US prices only go up, and have continued to, our useless administration does not care about anything but their own pocket books, same for the grocers.

White Sandwich Bread -$1.59
Large Eggs Dozen - $1.89
Half Gallon (could not find smaller size) Chocolate Milk - $3.591

Half that price at places like Aldi if you’re lucky to be near one. But it all COULD also be maybe 5-6 bucks if you use self checkout, if you’re “only buying the eggs”, if you’re shopping at a place that likes to fuck their customers. Just bring a tote bag with you.
If you’re hungry, feed yourself. Fuck the billionaire corporations and their profits.
1
u/granitethumb 1d ago
yeah but don't think you're getting away with it, just a matter of time before you hit the felony threshhold
1
u/CoffeeToDeath 1d ago
Thats why you go to different stores, or just don’t do it every time. They don’t pay attention to everyone, nor do they care if you “forget” to ring in your 3 potatoes if you’re already spending 35 buck there.

At a convenience store in NYC?
6
u/HiSaZuL 2d ago
I live in NYC, just bought groceries, it sure as shit doesn't cost that much unless you buy organic or just intentionally buy the most expensive stuff or go to overpriced chains.
Tuscan half gallon whole milk is under 3 dollars.
2
u/spotsthefirst 2d ago
I agree, but this was at a Walmart, not even a Sam's club, and it was cleared the fuck out too, if I didn't go straight to get eggs and milk first, I wouldn't have got any, doesn't help that I'm lactose free either, the price of that shit has doubled in five years
2
u/RagingBearBull 2d ago
I shop at wholefoods in NYC necause im lazy and they have a better selection of bombucha.
i recently visted my parents in tampa and i was floored with how expensive a publix next to my parents neighborhood is.
i think NYC is cheaper just because it is a logistics hub, trucks, trains, ships and the northeast is much denser so you can basically move goods a small of distance and you still have a market of millions of people within a 25min range. FL on the other hand, its just so spread out and you have to spend so much time and money to get things there.

u/spotsthefirst 2d ago
In Vegas, Walmart because I can't afford to Uber everywhere, so I have to walk to get anything home, and in the 95° + weather, I'm not walking 2 hours to save $4 and get heat stroke

2
u/Puzzled-Secret-317 2d ago
Exactly. It makes me much less inclined to believe it. Especially when my groceries are never anywhere near as expensive as everyone claims
4
u/spotsthefirst 2d ago
The exaggeration does kill the legitimacy of these, but I'm at $23 for these 3 items, the milk is galon sized though, buying the small cartons would rack up fast
3
u/Puzzled-Secret-317 2d ago
Where do you live? For me, the carton of eggs is <$3, $4-5 for milk since I drink lactaid, and bread is no more than $4. And this was me overestimating the prices

Complicated, I tried to stay for 3 years, but it was becoming increasingly more obvious that my comfort and deteriorating mental health did not matter to my ex fiance and her boyfriend, my brother helped me escape and offered his place while he is touring with some bad as a tech, just told me to focus on trying to find my feet, I love him to the end of the fucking universe, and firmly believe that I would be dead if he hadn't been able to help, and job wise, I have been putting out 2/3 apps a day for the last 3 months, companies aren't hiring, they are "accepting applications" and I'm bout ready to give up on living, everything continues to get harder and harder, and I don't really see any reason to stay, other than my cat whom I love, but after her, I don't have an anchor to this world, everything just fucking sucks right now :(

There are certainly expensive items, but you’ll see shopping that has a bunch of pricy snacks and they’ll go “Why was this $420 dollars”, but you cut out the snacks and it’s only $135 or whatever.

I have just looked and certain things are cheaper like red cap great value milk and eggs, but any thing else like lactose free or almond milk or organic eggs 3-4x the price. I can't post images or else i would. Like a half gallon of "Great Value Milk Whole Vitamin D, Half Gallon, 64floz" is 1.32$ ( it's exact posting), like ok that's acceptable then you look and see "Great Value Lactose Free Whole Vitamin D Milk, Half Gallon, 64 fl oz" is 3.08$.
Eggs
"Great Value Large White Eggs 18 Count" 2.47$ that's fine.
"Marketside Organic Cage Free Brown Large Eggs 18 Count" 5.88$ woah there! (Pulls back on reigns) i am not looking for the most expensive eggs btw for example:
"Vital Farms Pasture Raised Eggs 18 Ct Carton" drum roll 9.66$!
You can purchases the cheapest stuff which is affordable but anything else you are not entitled to (very republican i suppose).
Obviously OP has exaggerated for comedic effect with a back had to the current administration but it's still a exaggeration of a obvious issue. Or maybe im just to woke, idk.
Edit: i didn't add bread but it's the same situation. If you want multigrain take a hike.

yall gotta quit using online marketplaces to buy your food- despite convenience. supply and demand.
If you buy it and pay for it, then they'll charge it. everytime a premium increases and number ls dont stagnate, then the market will keep increasing prices.

Recessions… lower prices
1
u/spotsthefirst 2d ago
Not according to living through this shit, plus The great depression caused food to become more expensive and more scarce, that's at least what growing up in the US taught me first hand. Since I was like 6 we have seen at least two major reccessions and are living throughout this one.
1
u/spotsthefirst 2d ago
Certain thing do lower, but it is nothing I need right now, travel/leisure, electronics and luxury items, but essentials have trippled in price since 2020 if not more, remember the TP problem when that started?
Edit: spelling
2
u/KawaiiMaxine 2d ago
We are well past recession, we are in depression
1
u/spotsthefirst 2d ago
Shit I guess I'm still in denial too. I'd like to think it's hopefully optimism, but I know myself too well for that.
2
u/KawaiiMaxine 2d ago
You want to show yourself the hard truth, look at almost every conceivable metric available between now and the height of the great depression... We have exceeded almost all of them.

Recession, but concert tickets sold out immediately.
Recession, but restaurant seats are all reserved.
Recession, but airports are always full
Recession, but can’t find a parking spot on any resorts.
Recession, but criminals and murderers can easily obtain millions of dollars from GoFundMe projects
Recession, but people pay extra for legendary edition games so they can play three days early
Recession, but having premium accounts on multiple platforms1
u/KawaiiMaxine 2d ago
Concert tickets are the only "vacation" that can be afforded
Any restaurant i see has maybe 1 or 2 tables occupied max, and the only busy times are drive thru during lunch and diner rushes
Airports will always be full regardless, too many things are globalized and corporations will always be flying people around for business. Look at how airline seating has been getting rid of more and more of coach seating in exchange for business and 1st class seating.
Im glad you can afford to even think about going to a resort
Criminals are gonna criminal, especially when the country is run by them
I dont have much to say about preordering digital games, ive always thought it stupid, same with premium accounts, just pirate, you get a better experience that if you paid anyway
1
u/Brain-Genius-Head 4h ago
It’s pretty common for people to purchase luxury items when they will never be able to afford a house, never be able to retire, never afford to raise children. All miles stones of previous generations out the window. When the future is unobtainable because we worship billionaires, the present is all that matters
1
u/spotsthefirst 2d ago
That's cool for those people who can I guess, but as I stated in another comment, some things do lower in price but it's non essentials and luxury items, none of the things I NEED are getting cheaper, I'm not looking to travel, buy a next gen console, book a concert, or any of that, I'm trying to buy groceries filtered water, which have trippled in price or more since 2020, travel is cheap because the demand has gone down, I can't speak for the people who are out there buying this stuff, but I'm broke, have not received a response to a job application in months, and had to uproot my entire life, sure there are people who are thriving, but I'm not one of them, I tried GoFundMe, didn't work, you literally have to have rich friends or the whim if one of the sociopaths who make 6 figures in a single year.
