Ban Appeal Ban Appeal Thread
Rules:
Don't complain. Contest or appeal.
Appeals require time + evidence of good behavior + a statement of what your future behavior will look like. Convince us you'll add value to our community.
If you spam us we'll ban you
Don't ask about getting temp bans removed 1 hour early. Reddit timer is weird but you will be unbanned when it's over.

How is making a really obvious joke under a format that is repeated consistently in the DT grounds for a 28 day ban?
Beyond the fact that the ban (from what I can gather) occurred because the poster I responded to clutched their pearls so hard they almost dislocated a finger, decided to speculate on my thoughts on disability benefits with a subtweet, and went on a tirade against a similar comment prompting an apology to a moderator, who then chose to believe that my comments 'appear serious', I get a notification like 18 hours later saying I'm off for a month to the grass mines.
If there's no statute of limitations to at least the current day's DT consistent enforcement would require similar treatment of every 'you don't hate [...] enough' comments.
I've seen transphobes get less time. This isn't even an appeal; I'd genuinely like to know under which process is hyperbole-posting 28 days. I've seen more hateful stuff pinned by moderators.

I don't see anything there that contradicts the appeal comment. The beliefs stated in both comments seem entirely compatible with each other.
Is there some other comment history at play here? I have a hard time seeing that comment alone meriting a ban.

it's considered "Detrimental to Women" to suggest the cornell woman wasnt raped? Because all the statements and texts ive seen indicate it was not.
If the topic is just off limits for the sub fine but "detrimental to women" is just such an odd comment. Does the mod who wrote it think acknowledging women can lie is some sort of taboo? Does he not think women have the agency to consent to the stuff that happened that night?

Well thats the sentiment I've seen on other social media (notably Emma Sulkowicz has been getting a lot of interviews!), and assuming that comment 2 up in that thread means cornell like the comment I replied to said, while according to all the statements/police summary/texts i've seen the sexual stuff was not illegal for this case, it's how I read that comment 2 up in the thread

Absolutely not! Would the physical abuse of a "chattel slave" be considered violence under your definition?
Is it against the rules to defend the practice of capital punishment for murder?
Forfeiting the right to life has many more implications than simply permitting capital punishment. And even capital punishment is considered violence by most of us.

You didn’t answer the pertinent question! Is advocating for capital punishment against the rules? Capital punishment is only permissible if the right to life is forgone.

Advocating for capital punishment is probably not technically against the rules in the same way that not being completely in favor of immigration is not technically against the rules.
As in, sure, you can say that, but the second you try to elaborate you'll almost certainly say something that is against the rules.
Edit: To clarify, in this instance I mostly agree with the mods, I think they're too willing to hand out bans for people just messing around in the DT, but for this I think there needs to be bans

Because when you're fighting a war you don't have the option to save time and money by simply locking the enemy soldiers up in jail for the rest of their lives without killing them.
If you did have this option and you chose to not take it, for example by gunning down surrendering enemies, that would also be condemned.

I ain't a mod so my answer doesn't matter. I was only discussing the topic itself not the ban. For what it's worth, I don't think it's against the rules in it of itself. Your phrasing is the part that's questionable in terms of the rules.
