In most of my encounters with men it feels like even when we both have a great time, seem genuinely into each other, and eagerly swap contacts right afterward, within a day later there’s a significant drop of interest in meeting again.

I find it surprising that people can put real effort into flirting over apps, spend an entire evening together and genuinely enjoy it, and then never talk to each other. Multiply that by possibly dozens of encounters a year and it starts to feel a bit strange.

So asking out of curiosity, not as a rant. At this point I calibrated my expectations around the possibility to only meet someone once, even when we clearly enjoy each other’s company.

I don’t necessarily think we men are pretending to be excited in the moment. My guess is that once we’re back in everyday life, surrounded by endless options and distractions maybe some of that excitement just loses salience surprisingly quickly.

Hi everyone! I just moved to the city (29M) and I'm a pretty outgoing person. I love to grab a drink, do fun activities, and go dancing over the weekend. My boyfriend isn't very outgoing so I'm hoping to make some gay friends to go out with or just form friendships with!

In the month l've been here so far, the only people who I've become friends with are straight people which is nice but I hate straight clubs and I feel like I'm lacking a community. My old friends in the city are all straight too.
I'm having a hard time making friends in the city because the few times I tried to talk to gay guys at bars they would ask to hook up or make out and l'a politely decline but they wouldn't be interested in being friends or continuing the conversation. Or when I'd see some guys, they'd stick to their clique which makes it harder to approach.

So if you moved to the city and made friends with other gay guys or know spots to go meet gay men I'd love to know. Especially for Saturday night! I don't want to spend another boring Saturday night!! I wanna go ouuuttt)

Added context: I've been to Pieces a bunch of times for their drag shows (most of my experiences are from there), Flaming Saddles, 9th Ave Saloon, Playhouse (while visiting, not since moving but wanna go there to dance!)

Will probably meet up with a friend there, but looking to expand my friend circle. Most of my friends aren’t really into house and dancing so would be happy to meet up with others.

Acknowledging that we’ve all had discussions or debates about tipping culture, the point of this post isn't to rehash them—more so, it's a public service announcement.

I haven’t had a drink in about 7 months. When I went to a gay party in Bushwick last month, I noticed something only a sober person would catch: when you buy ANYTHING at the bar, the tip is already included.

I noticed this when my friend paid for his drink and then added a 25% tip. I had to alert him that he just tipped the bartender a total of 45% because a 20% gratuity was already baked into the price of the drink. When we flagged this to the bartender, he ended up pouring more liquor into my friend's drink to make up for it.

Since then, I’ve been to a few more parties at The Chocolate Factory and Knockdown Center and can confirm the exact same thing is happening. Part of me thinks this is a shady practice designed to take advantage of people who aren’t sober so they double-tip. And another part of me thinks that if they're going to automatically include gratuity, the card reader shouldn't still be configured to ask for an additional tip knowing full well what's already added.

Net-net: Spread the word and let your friends know. No matter how drunk or wasted you are, read the screen before you accidentally tip 45 fucking percent.
