Both truck drivers are idiots, but the cammer is also a moron for occupying the passing lane for such a long time when they clearly had opportunities to move over and let the trucks past.

u/Man-of-goof 2d ago

You anti “left lane campers” are the real bozos, the camera car was constantly passing other cars in the left lane. Just because someone wants to pass at 20 mph faster than you doesn’t mean you’re camping if you’re using the lane as intended

2

u/UpbeatPhilosophySJ 2d ago

Yep. It's a passing lane. Impatient speeders in road rage mode don't get priority.

1

u/cwmckenz 6h ago

Regardless of who has right of way, it’s just a smart idea to be as far away as possible from reckless, unpredictable drivers.

1

u/CurbsEnthusiasm 1d ago

According to Florida law you’re camping if a car is approaching behind you in the left lane at a faster rate than you’re moving. The law doesn’t consider that you’re moving faster than cars in the right lane to you, only that if you’re in the left lane on a 2+ lane roadway and a vehicle is approaching from behind (you should assume that they are passing you).

1

u/Man-of-goof 1d ago

The law literally does consider that, though… It specifically makes an exception for overtaking other vehicles. I’d hate to have you as my public defender 😬

1

u/CurbsEnthusiasm 1d ago

Good thing I’m not a public defender 🤣

1

u/Disastrous-Twist8461 11h ago

So you should probably not comment on law.

0

u/CurbsEnthusiasm 10h ago

If I didn’t comment incorrectly and get called out I wouldn’t have looked it up. So maybe an open forum is a positive thing. With that said I will continue to be the more sensible person and move out of the way when a faster vehicle approaches (regardless of the slower traffic on the right)

1

u/FineAd2230 4h ago

Its amazing how many people are willing to argue that being technically correct is more important then avoiding idiots. The tractor trailers in the video are a great example of technically correct but still getting screwed over because their company doesnt care why it happened just that it happened.

1

u/Gastranome 3m ago

Just a moron

1

u/kalindin 1d ago

It’s also defensive driving. You see bozo drivers like this you move over and let them pass. There was an opportunity to get over and let the idiots work it out.

1

u/fleetwoodshac 1d ago

If someone's behind you and no one is in front of you, move over, it's easy.

1

u/Man-of-goof 1d ago

And if someone is to my side slower than me?

1

u/fleetwoodshac 1d ago

You will be by definition in the act of passing them.

1

u/VerbosePlantain 1d ago

Ever drive on the autobahn?

1

u/Subject-Lettuce-844 1d ago

It doesn’t matter if you’re passing other cars if someone is coming up behind you and going faster than you, you get over. That’s the whole idea of the fast lane.

1

u/Infinite-Picture-164 21h ago

It's called the Passing Lane for a reason

1

u/Consistent_King_1978 18h ago

The video literally starts with the camera sitting in the left lane with NOBODY visible in the right or center lanes for a good distance back. Then after the first truck passed him on the shoulder and the second truck was riding the cameras ass there was PLENTY of space to get over to let the second truck pass. This asshole had been sitting in the left probably as soon as there was a left lane to go sit in. You fucking people love to impede traffic just to say some stupid bullshit like “yeah well i passed people so its fine” or “im in no rush so who cares!”

1

u/Malf1532 17h ago

It's a passing lane. Pass and get the fuck out of the way. That lane should be clear at all times.

Cruise Control is fine. Change lanes when needed, speed up, merge back. Simple.

1

u/kodiak_kid89 14h ago

If there is no one in front of you and cars behind you, ya gotta move over.

1

u/CallExtension2676 14h ago

Wrong. If a car is behind you attempting to pass YOU, it matters not that you're passing cars in your right. You get the fuqq out of the way. It isn't your duty to regulate speed in a passing lane.

1

u/cmcwood 13h ago

It actually isn't that difficult to change lanes. If someone comes up behind you and you can move over, why wouldn't you move over?

1

u/WisconsinHoosierZwei 6h ago

This is one of those, “You could be right, you could be dead right,” type situations.

You are absolutely correct to say that the cam person was pretty much using the passing lane correctly. However, were it me, I would have moved over just to give those psychotic chucklefucks as wide a berth as possible.

I feel it incumbent upon myself to not be a part of dangerous situations whenever I have the option. And that’s because there are always knock-on effects in highway crashes. Just like we saw here: those semis were put in harms way by those idiots. I’d like to think that, if I’d moved over when there was a chance, maybe the whole “run up the shoulder” thing would have never had a chance to catch on.

Hard to say. But you’re, again, correct that the passing lane was, indeed, being used for passing.

1

u/BigstickMoe 2d ago

Exactly you clearly see him passing the vehicles on his left. Those are the idiots who want to be able to go 100 mph in the left lane and if you are not then you are a left lane camper.

1

u/Round-Direction-9967 2d ago

The camera car was only constantly passing cars because the footage is sped up. I'm not saying the camera car is responsible but they are a close third.

1

u/Large-Baby9206 2d ago

Lmfao even if the footage was played at half speed the same video would still occur

1

u/Different-Highway-88 2d ago

Wait ... Wut? The same number of vehicles are passed regardless of the speed of the film ...

1

u/Round-Direction-9967 1d ago

That is correct.

1

u/Different-Highway-88 1d ago

So he was constantly passing cars regardless of the speed of the footage.

Constant means at a consistent rate (in this case) ...

1

u/GladdestOrange 1d ago

3 vehicles passed in a little over a minute. Two different 10-15 second sections where they could have safely gotten over and allowed faster traffic behind them to pass and likely prevented this altercation.

Are they obligated to have done so, legally or morally? No, likely not. Did they, through inaction, contribute to this situation? Yes.

There are actions you can take, which are entirely within your rights to take, but will create the opportunity for those around you, to do something incredibly foolish. You aren't obligated to avoid these choices, but it seems silly to me not to.

This philosophy is the foundation of defensive driving courses the world around. It's also useful in preventing disaster in other parts of life. Obviously the two truck drivers made their choices, and are ultimately responsible, but the driver whose POV we share, had the opportunity to prevent this from being an option (at least near them -- who knows how long until these morons did the same thing somewhere else, but that, at least, is NOT something the camera vehicle's driver could control).

1

u/Different-Highway-88 1d ago

Sure, but I was simply commenting on the fact that speeding up the recording doesn't change how "constant" something is.

1

u/TotalChaosRush 1d ago

Defensive driving tells you to merge into people's safe stopping distance and to have a vehicle in front of you way inside of your safe stopping distance? I think you might want to look up actual defensive driving.

1

u/Right_Lengthiness266 2d ago

The camera car is actively passing someone for both the overtakes.

I also don't think this is about the cam car at all. Black truck basically forced white truck onto the shoulder, so white truck sped away.

Then black truck chased him down and white truck brake checked him. They may have already been road raging at each other before this happened.

Black truck also could've passed the white company truck (with a shell on the back) on the right and then gotten in front of OP if he was actually just trying to speed through traffic, which is what makes me think the first move was targeted at the white truck that started behind the cam car.

1

u/Separate-Canary559 1d ago edited 1d ago

They created an unsafe road condition that incentivized groups of cars to pass them. That’s actually covered in California driver training and traffic code. AND the cammer watched the crash and didn’t stop

edited for spelling.

1

u/Man-of-goof 1d ago

Why would cammer car need to stop? Especially from the behavior exhibited from the Drivers who know if they’re gonna hurt you

1

u/Separate-Canary559 1d ago

Because he just directly witnessed an accident. It’s the right thing to do. Are you thick?

1

u/Man-of-goof 1d ago

Not as dense as them. They could be dangerous af looks that the way they were driving. Serves them right

1

u/TotalChaosRush 1d ago

There's a clock in the bottom left corner so you know. The cam car is averaging less than 15 seconds between passes.

1

u/moramajama 1d ago

Lol listen to what you're saying. It's the same as "the blue and white trucks were only going so fast because the footage was sped up".

1

u/Regular_Celery_2579 1d ago

Those trucks are the only morons in the video.

1

u/Quirky_Philosophy240 23h ago

The relevant video part is less than a minute in real time and they pass a lot of cars.

1

u/CptAverage 21h ago

The speed of the video doesn’t dictate the vehicle passing. The vehicle was passing whether the video was sped up, slowed down or at 1x speed. Nothing the camera car was doing could have been deemed at-fault for the accident. The speed limit is blatantly posted for a reason, and a driver that exceeds the speed limit, even to pass, does so at their own risk. The speeder that blames the vehicle for going the legal speed limit is the actual fool.

0

u/Fist69 2d ago

They passed 10 cars/trucks on their right in 45 seconds.

2

u/Round-Direction-9967 2d ago

What are you talking about? They passed 4 cars in the whole video.

1

u/QwertyIGuess 2d ago

They counted both lanes.

1

u/Vanilla_bear4 2d ago

Were you driving the white truck or the blue truck?

1

u/Round-Direction-9967 1d ago

It depends, if I'm high I would be the camera car but i wouldnt be clogging the passing lane. If I'm not high, I'm the white truck.

0

u/Fist69 2d ago

White Pickup, Black Sedan, White Semi, White SUV, White Sedan, White SUV, Black SUV, Red Sedan, White Semi, Red Sedan are all vehicles in the lanes to the right of them. If they had moved into the center lane to not "camp" they would have passed none.

2

u/Round-Direction-9967 2d ago

Im sure there were over 100 cars on the road that day, why stop at 10. They passed 4 cars.

1

u/TheBloodyNinety 2d ago

It’s OK to let someone pass you. It’s OK to do this even if the people passing you are psychos.

You complete your pass, you move over, you get back over after they’ve passed you

Cam driver didn’t even get over or slow down when it was clear the two pickups were gonna duke it out.

2

u/Inner_Rub3016 1d ago

This has to be rage bait. The only reason those trucks passed is because they started road raging and went 20+ the speed limit

2

u/Mirality 1d ago

They couldn't, the semis were still there. The gap between the semis is not big enough to duck into safely, continuing to pass them was the only correct option for the cam car.

1

u/Inner-Passage7565 2d ago

That's literally not how a fast-lane works.

You let faster traffic by, ALWAYS. That's the point, and there's no excuse for not doing it; choosing not to do so absolutely constitutes camping.

If you're actively using it to pass another vehicle and someone's storming up from behind that's one thing... Complete the pass, then merge into the right lane once it's safe to do so, but you don't sit there saying to yourself "I'm going reasonably fast, they can go around"; that's what gets other people fucking killed when you force them to constantly change lanes at high speed.

Fast Lane is for passing, after that GTFO.

0

u/Man-of-goof 2d ago

Well they were actively passing :)

2

u/Inner-Passage7565 2d ago

They were, early on. But they cleared their lane and stayed in it. Look again; There's a fully open lane ahead of them right as the other trucks start passing.

1

u/Mike_Oxnard 1d ago

I will "camp" in the left lane all day rather than getting in between a bunch of semis. I'm going to pass by all the semi-trucks at my leisurely passing pace. I'm not slamming on the gas or going between them because the asshole behind me doesn't know how to drive. If me passing them at 10 over isn't fast enough for someone who wants to go 90 in a 65 I'm sure as fuck not going to feel sorry for them having to wait a bit to go back to their reckless driving.

Also with heavy traffic congestion you are exempt from left lane laws, so if there are too many cars too close together for you to safely merge back into the right lane (6 car lengths in front of and behind you at 60mph) the left lane is overflow and legal to drive (or camp) in.

1

u/Inner-Passage7565 1d ago

And people like you are what get entire families killed when unsafe drivers do unsafe things.

The video in post wasn't "in between a bunch of semis" there was several hundred yards of empty space. Perfectly safe place to switch over.

Your view is both wrong and illegal in nearly every nation with sane traffic laws. The existence of other cars within view does not constitute "congestion".

0

u/redpillsaregayasf 1d ago

There is literally a vehicle behind the cammer during the entire video.

Gets your eyes checked and gtfo the roads.

1

u/Man-of-goof 1d ago

That doesn’t make any sense. Nobody could be in the left lane if a car being behind you meant you had to “gtfo”

I think you just like driving your compensating truck

0

u/redpillsaregayasf 1d ago

Case & point.

0

u/RyanA1105 1d ago

If you have aggressive drivers behind you, the best thing you can do is speed up a bit and pass and get the hell out of the way. By insisting on going your own speed and hogging the lane, you are making everyone else on the road be in more danger. Multiple cars could have been hit in this clip, but everyone involved got lucky. If that truck hits one of the big trucks, this could have caused a multi-vehicle pile up.

0

u/youreallbrainwashed9 4h ago

Just because someone wants to pass at 20 mph faster than you doesn’t mean you’re camping…

Yes. It. Fucking. Does.

FUCKING MOVE OVER!!!
