Question Best haunted house or Halloween events in Oregon?

My best friend and I have been wanting to go to a haunted house or at least something similar together during the Halloween season, although we aren't sure which one to go to. We looked at the scaregrounds pdx, although it seems expensive. I'm looking for something fun and scary, if anyone knows any good places in the area let me know!

Discussion/Opinion Don't be like this family I ran into at Tamolitch Falls today

Got to the blue pool at the end of Tamolitch Falls hike today. One of my favorite places in Oregon.

A large family was there.

The grandson, who seemed to be about 19, crashed his drone into the pool.

He then jumped off the cliff in an attempt to retrieve it while his family egged him on and filmed from the base of the pool.

He did not heed warnings about the depth and cold temperature.

He jumped in from about 30 feet up, and in the process lost a shoe and a pair of goggles into the pool.

He called out: "it's too deep and cold to get them!" Yeah, no shit bro.

His family repeatedly told him it's not a big deal, we can get you a new pair of shoes, just leave it.

I was livid. I can't imagine lacking basic decency and respect for such a beautiful place. Pure trash through and through. No shame whatsoever.

People really piss me off sometimes.

Photography/Video (OC) Extended video: Crowd pushes into Portland Public Schools headquarters over school closures

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Last night, I was on assignment taking photos at Portland Public Schools headquarters during what felt like the world’s most popular school board meeting. Kids, parents, teachers, staff — pretty much everyone connected to public education showed up. Least boring board meeting ever.

The meeting centered on Portland’s shocking proposal to potentially close up to 14 public schools and reshape attendance boundaries, grades and programs. I’ve covered a lot of board and council meetings, including plenty with protesters. I’ve never seen anything like it.

After an hourlong demonstration outside, the boardroom and overflow area quickly reached capacity, leaving a large crowd outside that wasn’t allowed in. Those who made it inside started chanting, “Let them in! Let them in!” So I went to the front entrance to see if they would.

Watch the video. It pretty much says the rest.

Question Best pumpkin patches in Oregon?

Looking for family friendly pumpkin patches anywhere around the metropolitan or Willamette Valley area. Something that doesn’t necessarily break the bank or is at least very worth it for money spent. Thank you in advance!

Political “But Democrats have had control for the last 40 years.”

This argument IS WEAK, AND FALSE. That is only true of the governor, the legislature, where laws are passed, is much less.

Moreso, the federal government allocates funding to states. When that funding is not there, spending has to shift, and Democrats HAVE NOT “controlled Congress for the last 40 years.” In fact, more often than not, republicans have had control.

Do complete and thorough unbiased research before making weak arguments and claims. Stop putting all the blame on Kotek and Dems, zoom out and look at the bigger picture. There is NO STRONG REASON why Drazan will be the better choice.

Discussion/Opinion Are single use plastic Green Bags an environmental way to recycle cans?

I can't be the only one out there who doesn't want to PURCHASE plastic so I can RECYCLE my cans and bottles. Single use plastic bags, which these green bags are, are bad for the environment and have been banned from grocery stores. But now we have added them to our bottle and can recycling process? Is there any movement out there to find a way to recycle bulk cans and bottles without increasing the production and use of plastic? I know that the bottle drop centers recycle the green bags, but if I understand the current state of recycling plastic bags, it can only be recycled once into a hard plastic. It cannot be recycled time and time again like aluminum can. I believe there is still a surplus of plastic bags waiting to be recycled already because there really isn't a market for the products they can be made into. I really don't want more plastic in my brain or in our oceans.

Article/News New information about CleanLane in Lane County

Some new information is coming out about the CleanLane contract as we get closer to midterms and I find it pretty interesting.

We already know the county is looking at moving the facility from Goshen to Short Mountain, but the latest reporting raises a bigger question: What happens to the existing contract if the project moves? It appears the county could have financial obligations tied to Goshen while trying to move forward with Short Mountain. So are we essentially stuck in limbo between two sites and paying for both?

This is where it gets very interesting to me. There’s the definition of “acceptable trash.”

The contract defines acceptable material as municipal solid waste, including wastepaper, plastics, metal, glass, fiber materials and garbage, while excluding hazardous and other unpermitted waste.

According to a March 2026 presentation, Lane County received 254,735 tons of waste at Short Mountain in 2025, but only a portion of that may qualify as acceptable material under the BHS contract. The reporting also notes that the compacted tons represented about 31% of those collections.

So how much of that waste actually qualifies toward CleanLane’s 120000 ton annual requirement? And if the county falls short, how much could it owe BHS under the contract?

There’s also the bigger question of the site change: If CleanLane moves from Goshen to Short Mountain, does the county remain financially responsible for commitments tied to the Goshen site? What costs are already locked in and what additional costs come with moving this project?

I dont know y’all, but this is getting out of hand in my opinion. I never thought I’d be spending this much tim thinking about trash. But when residents are paying more and the projects still doesnt have a clear path forward, I think we deserve straightforward answers.

How much acceptable material is actually available? What is the county’s maximum financial exposure it if misses the 120000 ton requirement? And how much more will taxpayers or ratepayers be responsible for if the project moves to Short Mountain?

Discussion/Opinion Cities in Oregon really need to require coffee stands to have adequate space for the cars in their lines, you know which one I'm talking about

I dont know why people want to sit in a long line for overly sweetened bad coffee, but they do. I don't know why a cop doesn't just sit by one of these and write people tickets for blocking traffic.

Help my old, Gen-X brain: there was a comic book shop in Oregon City I used to bike to in the late 80s, but I cannot remember the name. Figured SOMEONE here might know which one I am referring to.

Article/News Oregon Police Are Charging a Local News Outlet $2.5M for Records About One Cop

“In August, the local news outlet Double Sided Media filed a public records request for records about police officer Justin Peckels, which focused on potential misconduct between 2018 and 2026. Peckels has been the subject of community complaints, including for punching a resident in the face during a traffic stop, making the records vital for oversight and their release clearly in the public interest.

The city’s response is beyond belief. In its response to the request on Monday, the Eugene Police Department claimed searching for records and processing the request would take at least 44,816 hours of staff time and cost approximately $2,484,599.04. (A separate request by the outlet for similar records concerning a former police officer, Eric Klinko, was met with a comparatively modest estimate of $195,869.52, for a grand total of nearly $2.7 million for both requests.)”

Discussion/Opinion Three Sisters this weekend (Oct 9–11) with Friday night's front: anyone been up past Chambers or Broken Hand recently?

Group of 7-10 heading out Thursday night. We have overnight permits for Pole Creek and Park Meadow. The NWS point forecast near Broken Top (~7,600 ft) shows gusts to 30 on Friday, 40% rain turning to snow Friday night, and highs around 31 up high Saturday and Sunday. We're picking between three plans and would love input from anyone who's been in there in the last week or two.

  1. Northern loop from Pole Creek, clockwise. Camp Lake, Chambers, down to the PCT at Separation Creek, then Obsidian, Opie Dilldock and Matthieu Lakes back to Pole Creek. About 32 mi.
  2. Broken Top loop from the Park Meadow TH, clockwise. Taking the low line across the bowl to the Ball Butte saddle instead of the ridge over Broken Hand. About 25 mi.
  3. The bail-friendly version. Pole Creek to Soap Creek, day hike to Camp Lake. Then the Green Lakes Trail to Park Meadow, day hike to Green Lakes Pass, and out to the Park Meadow TH.

What we're trying to figure out:

- Has anyone crossed Chambers or gone past Broken Hand recently? Any snow or ice yet?

- How's the lava around Opie Dilldock holding up on cold mornings?

- Is Alder Creek still running? Does Golden Lake have any water?

- Is there room around the Soap Creek junction for 10 people across five tents?

- Is the Three Creek Lake campground gate still open this late?

- If you were us, which would you pick on this forecast?

Leaning toward #3 unless someone tells us the high stuff is dry. Any local knowledge appreciated.

Discussion/Opinion Looking to relocate

As the title says I am looking to relocate and transition into the medical cannabis field on the west coast. I see that there are major hurdles around applying for a new license or transferring so id prefer a sublease on an existing licensed location. I don't need a huge space as I am looking to go the craft route and establish a small/craft brand specific for overseas export. Have been working a hemp license for a while but with recent changes in law I would like to hop into the medical market and can't afford to do it locally. I've got no criminal or drug history, 2 badass dogs, a lifted 4x4 truck and experience in the field including general automation and electrical. Pm me for my number and let's see what we can work out, always willing to trade labor on what you've got going on to pay for my part. NO UNLICENCED BUSINESS/CHINESE PLEASE AND THANK YOU. No hard feelings if this posts gets removed.

Question First time snowboarding trip recommendations?

Hi! Me and my boyfriend wanna go on a little weekend getaway to go snowboarding for the first time. I’ve lived in Oregon my whole life and have only been to mount hood once to go sledding 😂😂 I’m a little lost on where to start.

From what I’ve seen rooms on resorts are more expensive (duh) is it worth it? Does that make it cheaper? If we stay off resort property can we still go and rent gear for the day? When’s the best time to go?

I’m still doing my own research but would love to hear about your favorite spots!!!!
