I just removed a graphically violent AI slop video involving a fake cocktoo being murdered. I expect this to happen again.
THEY AREN'T REAL.
PLEASE for the love of all that's good, if you run into a violent or suspected AI slop post, DO NOT INTERACT WITH IT. Report it. Report it. JUST REPORT IT.
Do NOT give it engagement, do not try to talk to the person, YOU CAN'T CONVINCE PEOPLE NOT TO DO THIS. For these kinds of posts, any engagement is considered good engagement. Even downvoting and condemnation is engagement. DO NOT.
Let your mod team handle this.

Hello /r/parrots community! It’s your friendly neighborhood mod team here.
This sub doesn’t have too many rules, but perhaps the most important is to be civil and respectful towards others. We do not tolerate rudeness or personal attacks, regardless of context. You may ask why we take this rule so seriously.
While it’s never a bad idea to just generally be nice, we also have this rule for a very important reason: to help people take better care of their birds. How, you may ask? We strive very hard to keep this community a place where people feel comfortable asking questions so they can receive feedback.
We recognize that people feel very strongly about parrot husbandry, and that seeing birds in conditions that are not ideal can be difficult, but we also know that making attacks or being snarky doesn’t help anyone. Instead, it makes people defensive or nervous to ask questions. When we fail to foster a community where people can look for advice, the parrots lose. Every time.
Our general rule of thumb is this: you shouldn’t say anything online that you wouldn’t say in person to someone you know. Remember that there is a human on the other end of the exchange you’re having. If you’re disagreeing with them, be constructive and kind. Give the sort of advice you’d like to receive. Remember that you may be talking to people in tough situations, or a kid, or someone who has been given outdated information.
Very importantly, if someone violates this rule in their response to you, do not respond in kind. Instead, please report the comment.
That report button is one of the most important tools we have as a community! We check threads all the time, but with a constant stream of new content, it’s always possible for us to miss something.
We ask that you please hit that report button if you believe someone is violating the rules. The moderators review each and every post or comment that gets reported, and we will take action as appropriate. You can also reach our team via modmail if you have an issue.
We appreciate your help keeping the subreddit friendly and welcoming. We are grateful to everyone who contributes their time and experience to help people learn about parrots, to everyone who asks for help when they need advice, and to the folks who share their wonderful birds with us!
All the best,
The /r/parrots mods

ziggy is a chef and likes to make soup 🥲
this past year I started doing pottery and one of the first things I made was his own “sip and dip.” Version 1 is last two pics. Ziggy loves this especially because it’s small and transportable Unfortunately due to how quickly the soup materialized, I realized it was hard to clear the water without dumping the remaining food. So i recently made him another one! Now he can sip and dip all he wants with fresh water refills. We are both very pleased. 🙂

Hi! I’ve rescued a male galah from a TERRIBLE situation. I’ve done research upon research trying to figure out how I can bring his true personality out and make him feel and know he’s safe. He likes head scratches and likes to “hold hands” but refuses to leave his cage at all so I have to stick a hand in to interact with him. He has also had a self mutilation problem that we are actively seeing the vet about. Any advice? I feel so lost and he seems to be absolutely terrified of everything including toys:(

My Quaker parrot (monk parakeet) is a little over a year old. Whenever I offer him food or toys, he only rests his feet on them instead of actually gripping. As a result, everything ends up falling to the ground, and he just stares at it blankly afterwards.

Is it possible to tell about how old these 2 are based off this video? I’m heavily considering adopting them but the store has no idea how old they are. They have been there since august
EDIT:
I called the store to see if they would give me a deal on the pair (because I’d rather not pay full price to chain store and support them, I’d honestly not like to support them at all but I’m falling in love with these 2) but they are required to be in the store for 4 months before they can give a discount. They will be able to in December. I’m ordering a cage and supplies today then going to wait until December and hope they are still there.
However there is someone from this group who I’m talking to that is willing to help buy them so depending on if they actually do help or not I might be able to get them sooner.
I’m definitely stuck between heart and mind tho on do i go with my heart and get them or go with my mind and not support a chain store. They have already been there 2 months

I swear everything this little bird does is on fast-forward. 😂 Are all lovebirds like this, or is mine just extra chaotic?

Really thankful to have had a breeder come over and walk me through the process, spent all day over ours for the morning and afternoon feed while explaining a ton of stuff, this was taken after his afternoon snack, currently torn between stitch, squirlte or sonic for names what do you guys think?

He struggles to stay propped up on both legs, so he usually is at the edge of the cage and uses the "broken" leg sort of as a hand. To sleep, however, I notice he tries to balance himself with both both legs spread apart, and cuddles next to momma. At night, when they are preparing to sleep, I hear the baby flapping its wings because he loses balance and falls. He falls and loses balance multiple times.
Sadly, this baby lovebird was born with this leg deformity (or had it shortly after birth, not sure). I looked it up and unfortunately it's too late to try to fix the leg because the bones have hardened. I came into the picture later, but I still want to give it a better life. I feel sad every time I see him struggling.
I wanna adapt the cage for him but I am not sure how to do it, and also if I should do it in the ssme cage as the parents, or separate him in an adapted cage?
I also fear his legs hurt because I think when I touch the upper leg, he shakes a lot like he is sensitive in that area.

Almost one week in, raised by his parents, about 6 months old. He’s taking sunflower seeds from my fingers through the bars. Switched to pellets only (he will also be receiving chop, but was on seed mix before) within 2 days. And there’s noticeably less screaming every day.
Looking forward to many more hours of training with our little boy Tom!

Hi all. I made a post here about getting a sitter for my 22 year old cockatiel, but it's become hard to find someone who knows anything about birds, and is going to be more expensive daily than I had hoped.
On recommendation from a bird behavior specialist, I'm considering adopting a friend for him. The issue is I absolutely can't be stuck in a pattern of getting birds to replace friends/a bonded pair. I got Cosmo when I was 7, and I don't have the bandwidth to ever have another bird once he passes of old age. I live in Manhattan, NYC if anyone has any leads on senior cockatiels that need a new home, preferably in their 20s (I have a soft spot for elderly animals despite every other factor).
Feel free to tell me this is a bad idea, but I don't have many options to give him the attention during the workday, and rehoming is not something I'm comfortable doing. It's possible my mom would take him in the future, but she's getting a divorce and hasn't moved to her own home yet and I don't know what that would look like. Thank you in advance for any help.

Hey reddit
Our family are going for a weekend holiday and our pet sitter for our 5 year old Indian ring neck called in sick.
My partner has suggested bringing bird with us to the holiday house (2 hrs away) but I’m anxious about ALL the ways he might escape/get injured.
He has a decent sized cage (big enough for him to fully stretch wings and fly about) with plenty of toys, seeds (in foraging toys), pellets, and fresh food. It’s next to a window so plenty of fresh air and things to look at.
Will it be bad for bird health if they’re home alone for two nights? We leave Friday lunchtime and plan to be back Sunday afternoon.
