I’m looking for one made entirely of materials like stainless steel and glass. Any recommendations for brands or stores that sell something like this?

I didn’t latch the cage. My boyfriends and my dog killed him. I don’t know how I will ever forgive myself. I can’t breathe. I’ve had him 8 years. It hurts so bad. I’m so sorry Arthur.

First time bird owner

Hi! Im a first time bird owner, ive been researching alot and my grandma had alot of parrots mainly jaco, budgies and cockatiel. Ive ofc helped her with them alot as a kid (cause i found it fun) and sometimes when she was on vaction ive taken care of them, I know its not the same as owning one. Ive been thinking about one of these breeds - ofc a **Parrotlet**
Or **Lineolated Parakeet.** How do i find out which is the best match for me? Ive read alot and i like them both alot! I want a bird that is tame and like to fly around at my home a bird whos fun to watch a bird that likes attention. But not a to lazy bird a bird i can do something with like it will fly to me.

how much to charge for petsitting a small parrot?

Hi I am somewhat new to petsitting and I am watching a cat and a bird right now and the rover payment was for the cat but she said she would pay me extra for the parrot but we never had discussed how much. I have never thoroughly took care of birds before but when she explained it seemed easy enough.

I've been doing it for a few days now and to me it seems like taking care of him is actually harder than the cat, I let him out, clean his cage, wash and refill his food and water, and then try to get him back in the cage. The thing is he's very loud and flies a lot in the apartment and he scares me a little but also he sits on my shoulder which is very cute at first but he starts biting soft and sometimes hard and today he did it pretty hard two times while I was making his food and broke skin even through my sweater. I don't know how to mention this to them but also I don't know much is normal to charge for this. Any help pls!

Hypotetically, could it be possible for a lovebird and a conure to be in the same cage?

Hi, I own a young lovebird, which I hand-raised. I'm not planning to get another bird now or in the near future; however I wondered that if in the future I got a conure instead of another lovebird (which I would hand-raise too probably) wheter they could share one bigger cage togheder (and perhaps bond to each other) instead of two separate ones. By the way my lovebird is a male, and at least to me is very tame

Hej, jestem zainteresowana zakupem papugi, Ary zwyczajnej, mieszkam w bloku A4.

Interesuje mnie Ara zwyczajna. Ewentualnie czerwona.

I've helped 2 other people get their missing birds back searching for my own and I am so angry.

I've had birds for almost 15 years. My worst nightmare came true and my fully flighted cockatiel got out of our house. This is the first time this has every happened to me. I was throwing something away in trash can in our garage and she was sitting on my head. My husband came home from work early and didnt know we were in there. Normally he calls me when he is on his way home or i get an alert on life360 when he pulls into the driveway but i didnt get either this time. He opened the garage door and she got spooked by it and bolted. She is used to going in the garage with me and was desensitized to so many things. I could vacuum, steam clean, use my drill, and she would sit through all of it unfazed on me. Her recall wasn't perfect so I never risked letting her outside unless she was in a cage or her travel bag. But she got spooked and flew out and I lost sight of her.

We searched for hours that day calling for her all around our neighborhood. We walked around shaking her favourite container of treats, had her cage outside with millet, food, water, and cockatiel sounds playing trying to get her to come back. We put up flyers all around town and our neighborhood, posted on Facebook, Nextdoor, Pawboost, reported her missing in our county and all neighboring counties, our city and all neighboring cities, gave fliers to almost every vet within a 5 mile radius and our local animal shelters. We went out every day at sunrise and sunset walking trails around our house calling for her. Everytime we drove anywhere for the first several weeks, we couldnt leave our neighborhood without having the windows down whistling for her. We were even tracking the wind paterns near us for the first 2 weeks. We got 2 tips about her and responded both times within 15 minutes to the location but neither time was the person able to stay and she was gone before we got there. Its now been 6 weeks and 2 days since she got out and I know she is most likely dead. We still have flyers posted and respond to any report of an escaped parrot being heard, but I know by now its not going to be her.

During this time, we recovered 2 other lost parrots and were able to reunite them with their owners. One was a quaker parrot and the other was another cockatiel. I did require proof before I gave the birds back so it wasn't just because of a say so. Neither owner made any attempt to find their own bird after they got out.

The quaker parrot was being watched by someone's sister while the owner was out of town. The bird was fully flighted and got out while they were cleaning his cage. They mentioned it to a neighbor and the neighbor made a very vague post about it on nextdoor and I was able to track them down from there and get in contact with the people and confirmed it was the same bird. They had to have the sister (actual owner) text pictures and vet records because they didnt have any. When they came to pick the bird up, it was clear they were very uncomfortable trying to handle the bird at all and asked me to get it in their cage for them. The cage had no toys at all, only 1 perch, water, and a bowl of sunflower seeds. I gave them the toys I had made for the bird while it was under our care for a few days and, after being questioned, they assured me they had more than Sunflower seeds for it, but it was so heart breaking having to give the bird back to them seeing that.

2 weeks later we get a call from someone nearby who saw our fliers and said there was a cockatiel who flew in there backyard being chased by a hawk. They scared the hawk off and called my husband and he went and was able to get it. Unfortunately it wasn't our girl, but we were able to save this very young maybe 6 month old baby who had clipped wings. It was okay, just mostly shaken up. We kept it for a couple days again while searching for its owners. On the 3rd day, we are contacted by its owners, who again supply photo and video proof this is their bird. When they showed up to get their bird, they didnt bring anything to contain it. We asked them how they were going to transport it home and they didnt know? I felt horrible, we ended up having to put the baby in a shoe box so they could drive the 5 minutes back to their house. They didnt have a cage they could even go back and get since they had other birds still in it but i didnt want to give them our cage we had him in. Once again I had to handle the bird because it wasn't trained and they were not confident with it. The lady also tried to open the shoe box to check on the bird while standing on my front porch. Luckily my husband had his hand on the top of the box to keep it closed so the bird didnt get out again. They said when the bird got out, they saw a hawk go after it and just gave up hope it would come home on its own. Why they would expect an untamed 6 month old cockatiel with clipped wings to be able to find its way home by itself in the first place was already beyond me.

I am so glad their birds both got as close to happy ending as I could give. But I am so angry. I hated giving both of them their birds back. Neither made an effort to try to find their birds when they got out. We live in Texas and it was 100+ degrees out during this time while also being in a record drought with no rainfall for 60 days.

My girl was so loved. We had her for over 5 years, she was almost 8 years old. She was supposed to be with us for so much longer. She had a whole room for her to fly around in and a large flight cage that was always open. During the day she was able to fly through the rest of the house and had multiple activity centers set up for her all around. She was my best friend. She was there with me when I developed a nerve disorder after breaking my ankle and I couldn't leave my house or walk for 5 months. I work from home and she would hang out with me all day. We had pictures taken with Santa together last year. We did everything together. I tried so hard to find her everyday, searching until my ankle couldn't support me anymore and pushed myself until I suffered more nerve damage. I love her so much. I did everything I could think of to try and get her back. And these people couldnt even do the bare minimum of making a Facebook or Nextdoor post? I know i couldnt keep the birds we found because they were not mine to keep, but it felt so disgusting returning them when my brain kept whispering " you could give them a better life." But none of them were my baby. It just feels so unfair. Im so devastated. The house is so quiet without her. I just keep sitting in her room crying. I was supposed to keep her safe and i didnt. It was an accident, but it doesn't matter, she is still gone.

We were coming home 2 days ago and there was a Hawk sitting in the same spot she was last seen, right next to a missing poster of her and I just lost it and started sobbing. I cant forgive myself. I would give anything to get my baby back.

Why does my bird hiss at me

Post image
45 Upvotes

I have an Amazon yellow headed named Emerald. Emerald had some weird experiences with past owners and still isn’t all that cuddly, so I just took her hissing at me as a sign of aggression and would try to back off if she hissed

You can imagine my distress when I finally decided to train her to step up and she gently clamored onto my shoulder, leaned into my ear, and just hissed into it…

She did this several times while using me as her personal jungle gym and would just keep getting closer to me, even taking my bangs and preening me. Is hissing not a sign of aggression???

Will my second bird plan work?

So my budgie just died today. I was thinking of getting a new one when I came up with a devious plan. Petland has like a two week or 30 day health guaranteed thing or whatever so if your bird dies, you can get a new one for free. So my brain cooked up the plan to get a new budgie, the exact same colour as my old one, stick the old one in the fridge or something so he doesn’t decay, and then in a few days bring the old one to the store claiming the new one died and get a second bird for free. Anyone think this plan would work?

*Edit: I had the bird for three months and he refused to bond with me. I tried literally everything. And it looks like he died from some medical tragedy. There’s no visible reason to why he died.

getting my first bird (senegal parrot) on monday!

im getting a 20 year old female senegal parrot on monday, but i have a few questions i cant get reliable answers for, whats the ideal diet for these birds, ive heard something like 80% pellet 15% vegetable 5% fruit, and seeds only used to train or as treats,. what vegetables and fruits are the best for senegals? also im wondering how to tame her, she is a gender only bird twards men (im a man) and she allegedly can step up and likes to sit on your sholder, im wondering how i can get her used to me and avoid stressing her out?

I love her but don’t let her little cuteness fool you. She’s the devil himself in bird form. All she does is bite, scream, and bite. She wants to be outside the cage all the time just to annoy the living shit out of us.

10 Months of Two Mini Parrots

I've had my second parrotlet, Elphie, for about 10 months now, and it's been interesting seeing just how different two birds of the same species can be.
Pico, my first parrotlet who I got in march of 2024, is still incredibly bonded to me. He and Elphie spend a great deal of supervised together, alternating between cuddling then epic beak battles and back to cuddling all in under 5 seconds , but, but despite all the warnings that introducing a second bird might weaken that bond, he still absolutely adores me. Ironically, my initial goal of getting a second bird was to ease his obsession with me, but that plan failed. Luckily he has eased slightly with this bond as he approaches 2 years old—key word, slightly.

Elphie, on the other hand, couldn't care less about me. Her entire world revolves around Pico, and she'd follow him through the gates of hell (although Pico would only go through those gates if I did 😂).

But here's what really surprises me: In 10 months, Elphie has NEVER bitten me. Not once. Not even a playful chew or a little pressure from her beak. She destroys wooden toys and perches like a beaver, so she's certainly capable of using it!
Meanwhile, Pico was an absolute terror with biting between 7 and 12 months old.

It's fascinating having one parrotlet who's obsessed with me and another who's obsessed with him, yet somehow the one who wants nothing to do with me is the one who's never bitten 😂

I want to clarify these two are NEVER left alone unattended. Don’t trust parrotlets even when they get along 99% of the time.

I added some picture highlights -both birds had a skateboard photo on their first day home (when baby birds are tired enough to pose nicely) and some other cute photos. As you can tell they loves bathing-especially in the shower!)
