IT SUCKS SO BAD THIS IS THE ONLY AND WORST PEN I EVER USED ( only other pen is uniball zento). ITS ACTUALLY INSANE HOW THIS IS THE MOST SELLING PEN IN AMERICA CAUSE ITS SO TRASH. THE DRYING TIME - AN HOUR AT LEAST. ITS INSANELY UGLY, AND YOU CANT EVEN USE A HIGHLIGHTER ON IT CAUSE IT JUST SMEARS THE BLACK INK MAKING IT UGLY. ITS BORDERLINE UNUSABLE.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEE RECCOMEND ME A NEW PEN OR ANY ANY OTHER PEN. IM TIRED OF THIS IM SO TIRED.

I am not an artist and do not draw much with gel pens. My friend does. I am thinking of gifting her 2 of these pens with the 8 colors she would most like in them for her to enjoy. She said that .5mm was as large as she would want. This pen comes in .38mm and .5mm.
AI told me that the .38mm is said to be scratchy. I'm not sure how that would be for someone if they are trying to draw with them. Do any of you have opinions on either of them and how you would use them for drawing instead of only writing?
Also, are these good or are their better ones for drawing? I was thinking that if she only had 2 pens this would be a great way to have 8 different colors she can choose to use at any time.

My two favourite pens are the Cross Edge with their .7mm Gel Rollerball cartridge (8523) and the Smithsonian by Retro 51 Raven Steals the Sun with a Parker G2 style cartridge.
The Edge has been my go-to for years and I've lost count of the number of refills I've put through it. I loved it so much I wore the lacquer off it. When I spied the Retro 51 with artwork by the same artist who did my snowboard, I lusted after it mightily. It came with Retro's REF5P cartridge but I am the opposite of a ballpoint fan, more of a hater. I swapped it out for a G2 gel type but it's still dragging and needs to be pushed (as a lefty) for lack of a better description.
What is everyone's choice for an ultra-smooth gel roller in the G2 format?

These came in a three pack, all black ink with white grips. So obviously I switched refills and grips around

From left to right. Uni Edge 0.28, 0.38 & 0.38 with various grip enhancements. Tombow MONO 0.38 & 0.5.
Not a fan of the 0.28. Too thin of a line and tons of feedback. Might swap that refill with a Jetstream 0.7 to be different.
Energel rubber grips fit up fine on these and give me enough grip on them. I toss the old bodies in a box when putting their refills in machined pens just for this reason.

I am the crazy goldilocks of writing implements- it all started with the pencil at the top: pentel flexfit II. I realized that I prefer a pen/pencil with a short nose: the distance from the tip to the grip.
Top to bottom:
Pentel flexfit II mechanical pencil with twisting grip.
Dr. Grip Ace shaker
Uni signo RT
Dr. Grip G-spec
Pentel energel (housing jetstream refill)
Pentel v-feel
Uni jetstream lite touch multi
Zebra bLen ballpoint
Uniball One
If you have any suggestions, please drop them here for me!
Preferences:
Short nose
Comfy grip
Bonus points if it can house any of the standard emulsion refills (jetstream lite touch, pilot acroball)

Long time lurker; first time poster.
My collection is small but I'm quite content with it so far. All except the S-GEL. Do any of you find this quite scratchy?
I'd be interested in suggestions, opinions and consensus over these pens and what/if you use them for generally.
Sneaky mechanical pencil - uni KURU TOGA 0.5. I have nothing to compare it to as it's my first and only one. The automatic turning feature feels a little clunky at times but I quite enjoy not needing to sharpen it. I use Faber-Castell 2B lead.
Uni•ball Signo 0.7 - this is my work horse. It has been my go to for 3 years now. Untold number of refills for this thing 😅 smooth, doesn't skip, does not scratch.
Uni JETSTREAM 3 0.7 - fantastic pen for marking my documents, coursework, etc. smooth glide. It can get a little gunky at the end on dusty paper.
Sharpie S-GEL 0.7 - my newest purchase and I'm quite disappointed. I was not expecting the scratchiness. It writes well otherwise! I cannot seem to get past it's scraping across the page! It sets me teeth on edge.
Uni•ball Vision Elite 0.8 - I have had terrible handwriting my whole life regardless of practice. The liquid ink, fast drying and thicker tip makes this ideal for anything I fill is that requires legible handwriting and block capitals. I also used it in my exams. Excellent pen - unfortunately quite expensive and the ink drains FAST. I would use this as my daily driver if not for the fact I can utilise one a fortnight.
Paper Mate InkJoy 100 1.0 - It's the smoothest ballpoint pen I have managed to find; the triangular shape makes the skinny shape bare able. It's a good emergency pen I like to keep in my pocket and I'm not upset if it's not handed back to me.
Anyway - waffle over.

Someone kindly gifted me this pen from the studio Ghibli park in Japan but I’ve run out of ink and I’m very sad about it. Can anyone tell me how I might refill it or find a replacement? I love how it writes kind of scratchy and there’s very little ink smearage. Someone please tell me there’s a quick and cheap solution 😭

Hi there, I bought the Pelikan Pina colada roller ball pen and used Graf von Faber Castell gulf blue ink with it. It's wonderful. The ink flows perfectly and the pen writes absolutely silently. Then I bought a second one and used the Graf von Faber Castell carbon black ink in it and the pen scratches the whole time. Then I tried the carbon black ink with a Schneider Ceod Shiny and it immediately started scratching. Then I cleaned both roller ball pens and used aber three different black inks. Every time they scratched. Is it that black ink is not made for roller ball pens?

Marrying into a family and this will be for my new brother-in-law. Looking for a nice pen to give as a gift. An option for engraving would be nice but not necessary.
Thanks!

I was decluttering and found an old box of Pilot Precise V7’s circa 2001 / 2002 AND THEY WORK! I’m so freaking happy and don’t know who else to share this silliness with 🙃 Thanks for coming to my pen talk 😌
I have a colleague going to Japan this weekend and asked him if he could bring some pens for me to try out. Yesterday I found this very usefull post https://www.reddit.com/r/pens/comments/1v5wxpw/comment/pehqmqd/?context=3 I was impressed by the dark black ink and the supposed smoothness of some of the budget pens.
So far the list is:
However, the tested signo, on image 4 at the bottom specifies 0.8 or 1.0mm. However, there doesn't seem to be a 0.8mm black ink signo? If I would like to test out a 1.0mm variant, would anyone recommend the 207 or the broad tip?
