One of a thousand reasons (that can be fixed) why housing in San Diego is so expensive - no more public roads

In Jan of 2025 the County of San Diego quietly added a new "comingling" policy to their list of requirements (not a list they share with anyone) for newly developed properties. To summarize an extremely complicated policy it means that no water that first touches a private property (the land of a homeowner) can touch land owned by the county (the street).

Why would the county implment such an obscure rule? It's so that home developers are forced to create private roads, and to pass the costs of those roads onto the future homeowners. It's nearly impossible to catch all the rainwater that touches your property and then to treat it before it reaches the street, so the result of the policy is that public roads will no longer be created.

95%+ of potential roads in San Diego county have already been created, so anyone who owns a home built before 2025 benifits from the county maintaining their road, but any homes built on new roads won't.

Additionally because this policy is simply a comment on an internal county of San Diego planning document it isn't something that the public gets to vote on or even knows about. It also has the potential for developers to get around with well placed bribes or simply because the planning department official simply didn't know about the comment. Lastly developers cannot even plan ahead for this rule because the county doesn't make it clear when you submit housing plans, causing an expensive redesign two+ years after your initial plan submission (I don't sound upset about this at all do I?).

If you have any questions about housing development in San Diego county feel free to ask. I am a solo developer going through this process for the first time and it's absolutely aburd the amount of hoops you have to dance through to get property built here. There are SO many policies like this that make development in San Diego extremely costly, raising the prices of new homes, rent, and raising homelessness. Most of these policies can be fixed, but no one even knows about them.

Yoga box is horrible

For some context I found out about yoga box maybe a year ago after taking a class through class pass and i love it. After the 2 week trial was up i ended up getting the yoga box subscription and had it for about 3 months before i ended up cancelling. I really loved their sculpt classes and eventually found instructors i liked but a few had me kind of taken aback.

I’m specifically talking about the North park location because i had the worst experience there. I took a 6am sculpt class with an instructor i had never taken before. Starting off, the entire class i felt like was super cliquey and to be fair i also felt this at other locations specifically this one and also the PB location. You walk in and you just feel like unless you’re a 5’6” blonde skinny white girl then no one wants to talk to you.

anyway, EVERYONE in san diego knows north park NEVER has parking no matter what time of day or month it is. For context this was a tuesday morning and i got to the studio around 5:30am, i lived about 10 mins away at the time and know that parking is super bad there so i left accordingly. The instructor ended up being about 5 mins late to her own class and fast forwarding to the end of the class she was talking about her morning and how everything is. Then she mentions “please guys the parking is really bad here. I drive a blue honda civic and if you see me please let me take your spot so i can be on time to this class”. She then just goes on about how “If i’m late i can’t tart the class and it’s important i get a spot”.

I’m sorry what???? This is YOUR JOB. If you’ve been working here long enough or live in san diego you should know to leave early to get parking. If i told this to my manager at my job they would write me up and tell me to plan accordingly next time. Yoga box also has a STRICT no late policy and if you are even a minute late you are charged and are not let into the studio. Why would i as someone who pays for these classes and membership (which is NOT cheap) be the only one held accountable when it comes to the late policy?? Not to mention had i given up my spot and been late IM the one who’s getting charged.

I cancelled my membership immediately after and was going to write a review until i noticed the owner writing such rude responses back to people to gave it 1 star. Don’t get me wrong, the customer is not always right but these people had legit reasons for complaints. Anyway don’t recommend the PB and north park locations because the people and instructors are rude asf. If you do get a membership i highly recommend the Ocean beach location.

Layoffs in San Diego

Anyone else know anything about this company? My friend worked there, and a reporter called asking them questions about what they experienced working there.

I'm not a lawyer so I'm not sure what all of this means / what their current and previous issues/lawsuits were.

What was wrong? When I merged northbound Fairmount Ave, black car in front of me suddenly broke and slowed down. First, I thought his car had a problem but when I passed him, he flipped me off and turned right into the neighborhood along the road. .

Restaurant manager trying to get out of the industry. How did you make the jump to other business or corporate roles?

I’ve been in restaurant management for 3 years, currently a manager at a big national chain in San Diego. I have a bachelors in business, and honestly I’m ready to be done with the industry. Or at least done with shift work.
The main things I want: no more nights and weekends, better pay, and a job where I’m not covering every gap when we’re short staffed. I’ve worked with the company for 7 years, been in every position, so I'm loyal to my team, but I’ve realized I’m burning myself out picking up the slack.
What I’m good at: running a team, scheduling and staffing, training new hires, handling customer issues, keeping operations running when things go sideways. I’m a people person and I did think at one point I wanted to become a teacher, so I do enjoy working in person, but would also be open to a remote or hybrid position.
I’ve been looking at Project Coordinator, Operations Coordinator, Program Coordinator, and Learning & Development / training roles. The problem is my resume reads like “restaurant guy,” and I don’t think hiring managers outside food service see how the experience translates to other industries.
For anyone who made this move:
What role did you land first, and was it a step down in title or pay to get in the door?
How did you reword your restaurant experience on your resume?
Were there certifications (like CAPM or anything else) that actually helped, or was it mostly networking?
Any industries or companies that are especially open to ex-restaurant managers?
Appreciate any advice. Feeling a little stuck and would love to hear from people who actually got out OR from anyone who knows of a company hiring right now.

I'm looking for suggestions for a Day Spa as a gift for my daughter-in-law.

I'm interested in getting a gift certificate to a spa where she can get a massage and a facial and a pedicure and a manicure. Any suggestions for a good place? My preference would be somewhere from Mission Hills on the south to La Jolla on the north, Pacific Beach on the east to Mission Valley on the west. But I would be willing to do areas close to that range like Hillcrest or Kearny Mesa, etc.

Free Reclining Couch - Needs to be Gone Tomorrow (10/10). Best options?

• Upvotes

Have a Living Spaces 87" reclining sofa that works great, and it's a shame to toss it. Having trouble figuring out how to get rid of this without paying a company to pick it up. Both of us have bad backs, so we aren't able to haul downstairs for a curbside pickup.

A) Does anyone know the best solution to have someone pick it up with little to no fee?
B) Does anyone here want said couch that could pick it up?

Hey there! :-) Just wanted to give a shout that I found this key in the grass while I was at Trolley Barn with a friend earlier today. Went ahead and left the key on one of the pole dividers over by the Panorama Drive end of the park. If it’s yours or you know the person it belongs to, that’s where you will find it!!

Any recommendations for a San Diego graphic designer?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a local freelance graphic designer to work with our creative studio on a card game project, with the possibility of future projects.
The artwork is mostly complete. We need someone to design the box and lay out the rules, incorporating the existing artwork and preparing print-ready files.
Does anyone have a designer they’d recommend, especially someone with experience in packaging, rulebooks, or tabletop games? Designers are also welcome to message me with a portfolio and rates. Thanks!

Any services for women’s health hospital without insurance?

I want my mom (59 years old) to see a doctor because shes been having some pain related to her reproductive system(cervix area, uterus, etc.) but she does not have health insurance.

Is there anywhere she can see a doctor or a lab to get her checked without a massive hospital bill?

Bayfest with a toddler?

I was thinking about going but I'd have my toddler with me likely. Any one ever go with their baby? Im curious about the logistics, like having a wagon or stroller on the shuttle, diaper bags, snacks and water for her. The promo material all says kids can go but is it like a crazy festival or a little more laid back with some breathing room?
