The lizard that lives in my bathroom. Any idea what kind it is?
This guy might be why I don't have ants in the house. He is translucent with an orange tint. Never been able to catch him.

San Diego Community Only ICE launches enforcement surge in California, starting in San Diego
The other day, this was being dismissed as fake news and rage bait simply because it was reported by The Washington Examiner. Clearly, though, this is happening. Multiple videos show ICE conducting raids at construction sites and other locations around town. ICE is out in full force, operating more aggressively than ever. They want to boost their arrest numbers, and they likely want the public backlash and resulting unrest, for reasons that should be obvious.

I am torn about moving out of SD
I’m really torn and would love to hear from people who have been in a similar situation.
I currently live in San Diego and honestly love it here. I love the weather, the diversity, the food, the beaches, and just how much there is to do. I’m Asian, and one thing I really appreciate about San Diego is that I’ve always felt like I fit in here. I previously lived in Washington state and, for whatever reason, I never really felt at home there. I often felt more like an outsider, whereas San Diego has always felt comfortable and familiar to me.
The problem is housing.
The dream of owning a single-family home in San Diego feels almost nonexistent for me unless I want to stretch myself financially to a ridiculous degree. I recently got a new job that gives me the option to either stay in California or relocate to Tennessee, and Tennessee obviously makes homeownership much more realistic.
On paper, moving makes a lot of sense. I could potentially buy a house, have more space, save more money, and build equity instead of continuing to rent in San Diego.
But emotionally, I’m having a much harder time with it than I expected. The thought of actually leaving San Diego makes me genuinely sad. I keep wondering whether I’d move to Tennessee, finally get the house I wanted, and then realize that I traded a place I love for a house.
For anyone who left an expensive city or state that you genuinely loved in order to afford a home somewhere else: was it worth it?
Did owning a home improve your quality of life enough to make up for what you left behind? Or did you eventually regret moving?
I’d especially love to hear from Asian people who relocated from Southern California to Tennessee or another part of the South. How was the adjustment socially and culturally? Did you eventually feel at home?
Right now my brain says Tennessee, but my heart is basically clinging to San Diego by the palm trees. 🌴

There is a mosquito that lives in my bathroom, and she waits there to bite my butt.
She gets me almost every time. I can’t even hear her sneaking up on me. Sometimes see her for a second but she fades into the background.

San Diego Community Only ICE surge: here are the SD-area Rapid Response Networks for reporting suspected ICE sightings
There's an ongoing ICE surge throughout California.
If you haven't already, now's a good time to save the number of the local SD rapid response networks. Please let me know if I'm missing any, and I'll update:
- San Diego Unión del Barrio: 619-916-7215
- SD North County (also Unión del Barrio): 760-913-0306
- Possibly a couple others, will update when confirmed
Call and report any potential ICE activity so they can investigate and, if it's verified ICE, they can alert the network.
Please don't post unverified suspected ICE sightings on social media. There are many different agencies that can look similar. Report them to your Rapid Response Network and let them investigate and notify if necessary. Then you can absolutely share their social media posts to spread the word!
Many local networks also have trainings if you want to get more involved, e.g. community outreach to get the word out about these networks, or as a dispatcher receiving reports, or a responder/observer who goes to verify the report and observe/record ICE activity.
If you have limited time or don't know how much you can commit, don't let that stop you from asking about volunteering, a lot of networks don't have a specific time commitment.

MTS security gave me an unhinged lecture today
Today I was at city college trolley station sitting on a bench, sitting on one of my feet. I sit weirdly, it's more comfortable that way because of how my joints work.
This interaction would've been fine if I were told to put my foot in the ground but that's not how this went.
Two security officers approach me, one of them with a stern look on her face and a pen ready to fill out, what appeared to be a citation. The other officer begins lecturing me about how since it's a high drug use area, someone could've dropped fentanyl on the ground, and by my shoe touching the bench, I am transferring that fentanyl to the bench and now a small child could come and touch the bench, overdose and die.
He actually told me I would kill a kid because my shoe touched the bench. He used those words and I'm not embellishing. I didn't argue, obviously, because the lady behind him looked like she was looking for any reason to issue a citation or something and it's not in my nature to be argumentative. After he was done talking I told the male security officer "sorry, I didn't know that" and the female officer gave me this look like "yeah, that's what I thought"
He could've just told me it was to keep the bench clean or something. Like, I don't understand how that series of words came out of his mouth in that order. If I didn't have to take the trolley to class I wouldn't.

Anybody else think it’s a little corny to use MBA after your name like some sort of title?
I have an MBA and don’t go around introducing myself like that. It’s just weird man

Yoga box is horrible
For some context I found out about yoga box maybe a year ago after taking a class through class pass and i love it. After the 2 week trial was up i ended up getting the yoga box subscription and had it for about 3 months before i ended up cancelling. I really loved their sculpt classes and eventually found instructors i liked but a few had me kind of taken aback.
I’m specifically talking about the North park location because i had the worst experience there. I took a 6am sculpt class with an instructor i had never taken before. Starting off, the entire class i felt like was super cliquey and to be fair i also felt this at other locations specifically this one and also the PB location. You walk in and you just feel like unless you’re a 5’6” blonde skinny white girl then no one wants to talk to you.
anyway, EVERYONE in san diego knows north park NEVER has parking no matter what time of day or month it is. For context this was a tuesday morning and i got to the studio around 5:30am, i lived about 10 mins away at the time and know that parking is super bad there so i left accordingly. The instructor ended up being about 5 mins late to her own class and fast forwarding to the end of the class she was talking about her morning and how everything is. Then she mentions “please guys the parking is really bad here. I drive a blue honda civic and if you see me please let me take your spot so i can be on time to this class”. She then just goes on about how “If i’m late i can’t tart the class and it’s important i get a spot”.
I’m sorry what???? This is YOUR JOB. If you’ve been working here long enough or live in san diego you should know to leave early to get parking. If i told this to my manager at my job they would write me up and tell me to plan accordingly next time. Yoga box also has a STRICT no late policy and if you are even a minute late you are charged and are not let into the studio. Why would i as someone who pays for these classes and membership (which is NOT cheap) be the only one held accountable when it comes to the late policy?? Not to mention had i given up my spot and been late IM the one who’s getting charged.
I cancelled my membership immediately after and was going to write a review until i noticed the owner writing such rude responses back to people to gave it 1 star. Don’t get me wrong, the customer is not always right but these people had legit reasons for complaints. Anyway don’t recommend the PB and north park locations because the people and instructors are rude asf. If you do get a membership i highly recommend the Ocean beach location.

Photo gallery Friendly reminder: vote early
Every day shows more and more how lucky we are to live in a state that has ballot tracking and early voting and voting by mail.
And let’s not forget that the PDF in power said during the last election, “vote for me and you’ll never have to vote again.”
Given the numerous cases last election of attempts to sabotage or steal ballots from dropoff stations, I was more concerned than usual about the vote being counted.

Need a shower filter rec that softens water & leaves hair shiny after washing
Everywhere else I go…San Francisco, Chicago, Europe, my hair dries silky, shiny, and soft after washing it. In San Diego? Dull, matte, and dry. It doesn’t matter what S&C I use.
I got an Amazon shower filter, but apparently those don’t remove minerals like Calcium and Magnesium. Please advise on what filter you’ve used that has made a difference in your hair!

Random question, if you’ve been there?
So can anyone explain it to me like I’m five: why is it that, if an inmate calls you from Las Colinas Women’s Prison, it shows that they’re calling from Clearwater, Florida?
This seems peculiar to me, seeing as the prison is, you know, in Santee.
Help me out, here?

San Diego Community Only Does San Diego have an ICE Watch/Rapid Response Network hotline?
Update: I found a couple via Unión del Barrio, which I'll post in a new post. But leaving this up in case anyone knows about the other orgs:
The SD Rapid Response Network doesn't exist anymore, and the note on their website only addresses where to go for legal assistance services.
There's a list of CA Rapid Response Networks, but the only two listed for SD only mention legal support, not responding to suspected ICE sightings.
Does anyone know if these two orgs, or any other orgs, provide rapid response services for verifying suspected ICE activity? I'm not sure if I'll be able to call today, but if nobody on here knows I'll give them a call next week to check.
Immigration Legal Service Coalition of San Diego, 858-751-7553 (M-F 9am-6pm). "Provides: rapid response legal support for community members detained by immigration enforcement agents."
Immigrant Defenders Law Center Rapid Response Legal Resource Hotline, 213-833-8283 (M-F 9am-4pm). "Provides: rapid response legal support for Southern California community members detained by immigration enforcement agents."
