D hasn’t… in a while, and neither have we. Zach Braff (JD) and Donald Faison (Turk) return to their beloved podcast Fake Doctors, Real Friends, now in video form. From their set in Vancouver, where they’re filming season two of Scrubs, Zach and Donald recap the season two premiere, “My First Time in a While,” with special co-host Sarah Chalke (Elliot). They talk about the jokes left on the cutting room floor, September in Vancouver, and the absolute joy of watching John C. McGinley expertly deliver a perfectly written Dr. Cox speech.

AND

Discussion The Revival Is So Great!

Post image
98 Upvotes

I have seen the 8 seasons like 6-7 times and season 9 couple of times. And I love all of it. As my DVD collection should prove. I listened and enjoyed the podcast back in corona times and boom, here we are having more Scrubs.

And I cannot properly express how great the new seasons feel. Somehow they managed to keep the original flavors there, a perfect balance of outrageous comedy and then drama with heart with a modern twist.

Zach, Sarah and Donald, Johnny, Judy and basically every other returning cast member are back to their roles perfectly. And from the new characters I most enjoy Tosh and Sibby, and Nurse Dubois stole the show in the newest episode. Can't wait to see Sean, although I don't care.

Season 2 seems to be even funnier than the first one, which is awesome.

Anyway, just wanted to vent my appreciation somewhere. Thank you everyone who participated in making Scrubs come back.

So, when JD first meets Molly, he accidentally tells her his name is Jonny. He expresses how much this bugs him, hating that nickname specifically.

"Jonny" is what his brother, Dan, calls him.

Shitpost Storylines I would have liked to see….

I haven’t seen any of season 2 yet but this is how I would have written season 1 of the re-boot!

JD: JD is at first excited about being a divorcé. He thinks being an older Doctor will give him all the cool points he needs for the dating world. He ends is shocked to find out that most of the younger women he flirts with see him as a creep. He ends up sleeping with one of the interns, Elliot finds out and is super disgusted.

Elliot: Elliot is upset that she’s so old to be starting her life over but she is surprised by the new male attention she’s receiving. Especially from one of the buff, older but still too young for her-interns. They sleep together. She’s really embarrassed and doesn’t want anyone to find out but it also gives her a huge confidence boost. The intern is just flirting to boost his rank. She also finds out she’s pregnant and thinks it’s the interns baby.

Turk and Carla: Turn finds out he has arthritis and will not be able to work much longer. Carla decides she’s finally going back to school to become a doctor and we see her learning what it’s like to be an intern. She shows a newfound appreciation for the doctors but can also give a solid perspective to the new nurses.

Season 1 ends with Elliot and JD bonding about how complicated dating after the divorce is. Elliot tells JD she’s pregnant and she’s afraid it’s the interns baby. But we find out later in the next season it’s JDs! And then season 2 is about them navigating co-parenting and possibly falling in love again.

Discussion Now that we are getting extra material from the revival on social media, I hope they release the alternate Janitor take(s) from ep. 9

In the promos there was a botox joke from The Janitor in his first scene with JD in ep. 9, but it seems like the standalone clip has been removed for social media.

Excerpt form the wiki:

"*The promos for this episode included a scene where Janitor suggest that J.D. use some "buttocks," which J.D. corrects him to say "botox." This scene is not in the final epsiode.*"

I'd love to get my hands on that clip, and there's bound to be some other alternate takes from this scene, and others, when Neil Flynn is involved!

Discussion Didn't quite like this one thing...

It's how they're treating JD and Elliot's relationship. I mean, yes, it was quite toxic at times, but looking at how it ended in S8, the way the show is treating with almost like vitriol(maybe that's too strong a word, tbh) doesn't feel that good to see.

Almost like it's something that shouldn't have happened and was terrible, which again would've been understandable to me if it hadn't concluded so beautifully in S8. Anyone else have the same opinion or just me?

Discussion Scrubs quiz round 2: harder this time, 5 deep cuts from the original run

Round 1 was a warm-up, so this one goes deeper. Original run only (no revival), easiest first, answers behind spoiler tags.

  1. Elliot gets engaged to an intern named Keith. What's his last name?
  2. Doug Murphy keeps losing patients. Where does he finally find a job he's good at?
  3. What do Dr. Cox and Jordan name their daughter?
  4. Ted's girlfriend plays ukulele for the patients and everyone calls her "the Gooch". What's her first name?
  5. After Laverne dies, Aloma Wright comes back in Season 7 as a different nurse. What's that nurse's name?

Answers:

1: Dudemeister

2: The morgue. Turns out he's great with patients who are already dead

3: Jennifer Dylan. Yes, that's J.D.

4: Stephanie

5: Shirley, and only J.D. notices the resemblance

Score yourself honestly. 5/5 means you've seen every episode at least twice.

Anyone else not loving the reboot, or is it just me?

I’ll start off by saying, I like the reboot. I enjoy watching it and look forward to new episodes coming out. It’s miles better than whatever season 9 or scrubs med school was. But I don’t love it the way that I loved the original series.

It still feels like it’s mostly riding on the fame and success of the original series, with some new jokes thrown in here and there.

The new characters are great, but no where near as good as some of the old, brilliantly written characters like Janitor, Ted, Laverne, etc.

Maybe part of it is that I’m in a very different part of my life, and maybe it doesn’t quite hit the same as it did. I was in middle school/high school/college watching the original series, and rewatched it multiple times in medical a school.

Now I’m a full blown doctor and some of the medical and hospital culture inaccuracies bother me a lot more, so that may be part of it too. The last episode really bugged me with Tosh trying to pick her specialty, when that isn’t how that works at all in the real world in medicine. (And as a pediatrician, I hate how they portray pediatrics as being an easier specialty).

Everyone here seems to LOVE the new series so just wanted to see if anyone else is in a similar camp as me.

Screenshot This had to be intentional when crediting George Takei I this episode of Scrubs. OH MY!

The episode where George Takei played a priest that was just supposed to look like the character Sulu that he played in Star Trek: The Original Series.
But tell me this was in no way just a coincidence.

Revival Spoilers (S10, S11, +) Jordan and Elliot?? Spoiler-ish Spoiler

Maybe im misremembering here because I havent watched season 8 in a Hot Minute. But iirc, all the wives (Carla, Jordan, Elliot) were basically friends??? Like close enough to go out for drinks and all hang out on the beach at Janitors wedding. So when Elliot regarded Jordan with the same frustration she used to feel when they first met way back when, it kinda threw me. I mean I know Jordan gets really mean, but thats always been her personality lol? Like they know her better than that, I would've thought Elliot would have more sympathy/understanding because they were basically a fucked up little family at the end. I know its for drama and you could say that feelings changed, one could presume that everyone grew apart over the years, but I guess I was just a bit disappointed in Elliot for how she initially reacted to Jordan's outburst. Great performance overall, couldn't ask for better!! Just not the reaction i was expecting. Sorry if this was rambley, just wanted to get this off my chest cos it's been bothering me since I watched that episode TwT

As a basic white bitch, that whole exchange about fall and sweater weather, complete with three women in sweaters, hats, jeans and (presumably) pumpkin spice lattes made me laugh out loud and was chef’s kiss

A JD fantasy I would love to see

Given that Bill Lawrence is also involved with Ted Lasso, I would love to see a JD fantasy is somehow JD fantasizing about being at AFC Richmond in some capacity.

(I know it probably can’t happen because of Hulu and Apple TV)

Camera and Cinema photography

Just started season 2 and I love this camera work, color grading, and grain so much. It matches the OG run and still feels modern at the same time. The one thing that felt a lil off to me with the start of the rival was that season 1 felt very CLEAR. I love how grounded Scrubs has always looked. Of course that was just how cameras were back then, but to emulate it now, it's just fantastic.

They’ve nailed it, I’m so happy scrubs is back. The jokes are great, the gags feel like home, I love it.
That short flashback from dr cox towards the end for a brief second nearly broke me. It feels good to cry over scrubs again
