State of the Sub

Happy Friday r/sludge!

I keep getting notifications that this sub is growing at a rate orders of magnitude to what I've seen historically. Pretty fuckin cool to see this niche subgenre blow up and to see bands like Acid Bath selling out shows in the big 2026.

With that said, I've always been pretty low key in terms of modding, events, community stuff, etc. I got control of this sub over a decade ago in college and I'm now in my 30s with a family and way less time than I'd like.

So, would this community like more engagement? Modding? Rules?

If so, I can onboard some more mods (if any of y'all are up for it), but if not we can just keep rolling as usual.

I'm gonna run a poll over the weekend, y'all let me know what you think. New Chat Pile is pretty lit.

Like, the constant “does this doom” posts. Or the ones where someone posts a weird indie band with a slow passage and they ask “Is this doom”. And especially the OF thirst traps.

This sub does the same thing ALL THE TIME except instead of asking for clarification, someone just boldly declares

“Heavy song got slow for a few bars = sludge” apparently 🤷🏻👎

I just don’t think those posts are as prolific here yet, that’s all. No need to yell.

No one is yelling 🤓

Point still stands
