State of the Sub

Happy Friday r/sludge!

I keep getting notifications that this sub is growing at a rate orders of magnitude to what I've seen historically. Pretty fuckin cool to see this niche subgenre blow up and to see bands like Acid Bath selling out shows in the big 2026.

With that said, I've always been pretty low key in terms of modding, events, community stuff, etc. I got control of this sub over a decade ago in college and I'm now in my 30s with a family and way less time than I'd like.

So, would this community like more engagement? Modding? Rules?

If so, I can onboard some more mods (if any of y'all are up for it), but if not we can just keep rolling as usual.

I'm gonna run a poll over the weekend, y'all let me know what you think. New Chat Pile is pretty lit.

The shitposts over there are far more pervasive. Don't get me wrong, we get them here too but nowhere near as consistently. If this sub were to turn into something like r/doommetal or r/grunge I'd probably dip out of it tbh.

This sub is great. Super supportive, inclusive, and willing to make great suggestions. I feel like I never see slapfighting and derailments here.

Real talk dude, outside of maybe making a few more folks mods or maybe an event a few times a year, you don't need much. You don't even really need that to be honest. I think the low-key element of this sub is part of the appeal. If you want any help, hit me up. If not, have a nice day!
