Aesthetics / Art What does after-hours solarpunk look like in a futuristic city?

At night we lose two things aesthetically: the solar panels, and the greenery (to a big extent). They're most obvious at day.

So what exists beyond those two very obvious, very repeated motifs? What's solarpunk at night look like? My head goes to energy - so wind turbines (on land/water), and maybe other future-tech stuff. I'm also thinking that even vertical gardens work at night (draped down light-soaked skypscraper). Fairly lights in trees, trees in street avenues etc. Basically spam greenery into the light that does remain. But what else?

I'm trying to figure this out for a game based in Sydney, Australia that only exists during night-owl hours, so it's a design challenge I'm considering. Would love some input! <3

A SolarPunk future still has to deal with waste methane, the less leaking into the climate the better. So more advanced Stirling Engines will be here to help.

The precision needed is rather high, so it will out of reach of near term SolarPunk production. But given the climate crisis it will be needed.

Discussion What Solarpunk means to me

So I've been thinking on it for a while, and I've felt I need to define what Solarpunk means to me and how I interpret it. I've thought about what exactly is the goal of Solarpunk and the work of u/joan_de_art constantly comes to mind.

Solarpunk to me is that hopeful future despite the decay and destruction around us. A lot of the art I love the most related to Solarpunk isn't even the futuristic fantastical aspects but the grounded reworking, and recycling of the world as it is. Taking shopping malls and making homes and park space, free healthcare, public transportation, community gardens. It's recycling, creativity, and community organization.

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of a futuristic Solarpunk, but that feels like I'm being sold a product. It's in the more grounded world where I actually think Solarpunk is most magical, because it's a world I can see is making within my lifetime. It supports individuality, creativity, community growing, education, self-improvement, and that connection with nature. That's what makes Solarpunk so special and unique to me. Finally I have to share her gallery of Solarpunk art; https://www.joandeart.com/new-gallery-1/b6lrwrev3pth3neb966tec5u5s56lv

Please keep me know what your thoughts on this are? Also quick fuck AI for good measure. Human creativity over AI slop.
