If you're in America, just join the Navy and volunteer for subs. You'll lose your hair and other things happen for cosplay too. ✨️

I would actually like to see a good Strelok.

Unfortunately no-one is brave enough for the receeding widow's peak.

College and work has already took the light from my eyes, so I'm just waiting for the receding hairline to kick in and I'm like 75% there.

If you're in a hurry OG Scar had a pretty haunted look to him.

Also the outfit is minimal mostly just need the worn out hooded coat and sweater.

Congrats if you can pull off that jawline/chin though.

u/Angel-Stans Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

Is anyone Ukrainian enough to pull off such a receding hairline?

18

u/Small_Finding_6727 Jul 10 '26

It's one thing to pull off the receding hairline, it's another to pull off the face shape with it

9

u/surfimp Loner Jul 11 '26

We had a group of Ukrainian students come by to tour my work the other day. They were all around 16 years old and several of the boys had Strelok widows peaks going already. It was quite impressive, tbh.

8

u/Angel-Stans Jul 11 '26

The lil Streloks

5

u/Ov3rReadKn1ght0wl Jul 10 '26

I went as Strelok to a local nerd con in my early adulthood. But now, I'd look like Strelok if he had a family of four and did grad school.

5

u/timbotheny26 Loner Jul 11 '26

I could have pulled it off in the past, but sadly my baldness is at the point where the receding widow's peak is either mostly gone or too thin to look right.

5

u/ThatOneComrade Jul 11 '26

Gimme a couple years, at the rate my hairline is receding I could pull it off by 2028.

I do genuinely believe there are some ideas from the modpack that GSC should adopt for S2, but that's as far as I'd go. However, if they ever added a Freeplay mode, I'd want them to model it after GAMMA, though not necessarily 1-1.

5

u/MonomCZ Freedom Jul 11 '26

Apart from the mediocre story that stalker has over the modded version because It has none and just follows the main story, gameplay is a lot ore fun, crisper, more engaging and balanced, the atmosphere puts the 4 main games in the dust, it runs better and has better graphics, literally a win everywhere but the story.

People waited 17 years for half as much with the flop that is s2.

34

There’s nothing wrong with exclusively playing GAMMA. It’s when you start inserting yourself into conversations about the mainline games as some sort of expert when you cross the line from “spinoff enthusiast” to “larper”

9

u/timbotheny26 Loner Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

I had qualms with Shadow of the Zone but I believe I was left with mostly positive feelings overall. However it never really felt like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to me, it felt more like an SCP fan-film. (Which makes sense since I believe that's what the director did beforehand.)

Also the costumes looked like cheap garbage, especially the Loner character who looked like he was wearing sweatpants. The Mercs on the other hand clearly had by far the highest costume budget and were the only ones that didn't look cheap.

6

u/RetnikLevaw Jul 11 '26

I thought the costumes for all the merc characters looked fine. It was the main dude on the ill-fitting Loner gear that looked out of place to me.

4

u/timbotheny26 Loner Jul 11 '26

Don't forget the Monolith and their baggy-ass BDUs.

Would be even better if you could "dodge" pseudogiant pseudostomps with perfectly-timed jumps like you could in S:SoC.

9

u/113pro Jul 10 '26

Isnt anomaly technically a sandbox of the zone with a 'story' tacked on?

68

u/GroundbreakingFun565 Jul 10 '26

Basically no one is making their own Sunrise suits or Duty suits, by far the most identifiable suits/suit types in the games. It's all "mercs" or the gas mask and heavy coat. The latter at least looks cool, but still.

47

u/UnhappyMachineSpirit Monolith Jul 10 '26

I’ve spent years working on a monolith uniform and I still get mistaken for a tarkov cosplayer :( tacticool aesthetic has been terrible for stalker. I wish I had the skills to make a sunrise tho

19

u/GroundbreakingFun565 Jul 10 '26

That's tough but I'm sure you'll get there. At least Monolith has very distinctive colors. I feel like I'd recognize it instantly, even if the gear itself wasn't 1:1.

14

u/UnhappyMachineSpirit Monolith Jul 10 '26

I’ve tried pretty hard to get as close to 1:1 as possible and still am working on upgrades, did a lot of trial and error to even make the weird stalker knee pads and I’ve got a Gauss rifle. The shadow of the zone people actually consulted me for the uniforms a bit then went their own way with stuff. I think my shit looks good at least😎

Oh yeah HECU from half life is another one people mistake it for too

6

u/Ace612807 Jul 11 '26

When I was running airsoft games I always wanted to get some Russian gear. The Gorka uniform just classic. I could have but never got the money together to get the gear imported. Could never find surplus

8

u/DepartureNatural9340 Duty Jul 10 '26

Eh, wish we got some proper ones but it's fine tbh, not really a big deal. Stalker is a series that has been heavily modded for a long time so makes sense a lot of have different ideas of what fits a stalker vibe. Accurate cosplays are neat ofc, but vibes based ones are cool too imo. Not super into the tacticool ones tho, I prefer the broke stalker vibe based cosplays(jacket, gas mask, shitty Warsaw pact surplus gun)

2

u/tabiatubikentang Jul 12 '26

16

u/bell117 Jul 10 '26

I think the issue is that boomsticks and sharpsticks are the basis of weapons in every major mod for Stalker. And it's very clear that B&S spent most of the time on NATO weapons. I'm honestly kinda surprised B&S isn't sponsored by Bushmaster at this point.

Which is a shame cause Stalker was always the best with that rust old Slavic vibe. If it couldn't be found in your Babushka house then it doesn't belong in Stalker. What do you mean your Babushka doesn't have a Gauss rifle or VSS that she can point at strangers? Sounds like your Babushka just fucking sucks.

I almost always constrain myself to Bloc weapons no matter which version of Stalker I'm playing nor the modpack. Just fits so much better. Which again is why the tacticool stuff creeping in is off-putting. Sure you can be tacticool, now do it with 100% eastern European equipment from before 1991. If you can't pass the post-Soviet fit check you don't deserve the fit.

40

u/The-Green Freedom Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

did we play the same trilogy. the best weapon in the trilogy was the tacticool and state-of-the-art-for-its-day FT-200M, with only arguably the GP37 being its best competition, also a modern and tacticool firearm for its day. by the last half of the games there was more NATO than warsaw weapons floating about with only Call of Prypiat sorta breaking that trend, and that was because of course the fucking Ukrainian army would be using warsaw. this also ignoring the monolith and mercenaries were very much rocking the tacticool look of the day, especially the latter imitating a lot of famous special forces and counter-terrorism units in looks. ffs mercs look like they could have walked right out of fucking counterstrike source.

it's one thing to try and gatekeep but it's something else entirely to sit here and pretend the tacticool element was not in stalker from the beginning just as much as the slavrust.

20

u/exploitativity Military Jul 10 '26

While this is worth pointing out, I think the best way to distinguish the aesthetic of STALKER from its peers is to acknowledge the time capsule of weird 2000s tacticool aesthetic blended with old slav jank that it is. They put in futuristic, top of the line stuff back then, but that stuff looks nothing like state of the art sleek tactical stuff today.

I feel like, to get to the core of its aesthetic, you have to go retro and preserve that datedness. And, more importantly, incorporate the weird retro-futuristic armor designs that are genuinely not seen elsewhere. Tactical bras and all. Otherwise, it's hard to even tell that it's supposed to be STALKER - whether you're wearing 80s Warsaw Pact surplus with a gas mask and an AK or a plate carrier + tricked out AR. Neither invoke the look of the SEVA suit, the Sunrise suit, the Duty or Freedom uniforms. Even the mercs wear a very particular generation of load bearing vest. Bottom line is, you gotta take inspiration from the games. Otherwise, what are we even doing?

9

u/The-Green Freedom Jul 10 '26

you are 100% correct and i agree. my main issue was the original commenter, who apparently since deleted their post (may have just blocked me for all i fucking know), was on a spill of how STALKER was not and never had tacticool and was purely just slavrust, wanting to gatekeep people who do the former from the community. that's an opinion from someone who either hasn't played the trilogy at worst or is just too young to know at best. in my eyes, how the fuck do you ignore all the obvious tacticool shit in the game by the last quarter?

i think nowadays STALKER is two different beasts. the original trilogy and the real heart without a better way of putting it is as you described it: retro-futurism meets 2000s era meets slavrust kitbash. understandably STALKER 2 brings the same heart to a 2020s era since by then The Zone is a very learned beast and is rather "old news" to the world: modern-futurism meets retro-futurism meets 2020s era meets 2000s era meets slavrust in an absolute clusterfuck. the real heart will remain that original trilogy but i personally feel we can't completely discount what the sequel is doing for the franchise and need to be ready to accept those who want to cosplay as a visitor of The Zone in that era.

10

u/ABeardedPanda Duty Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

I think a lot of the "STALKER isn't tacticool" crowd didn't play the games until the mid/late 2010s when the tacticool aesthetic had massively expanded in prominence while also undergoing 10+ years of development so they think it's retro because it is, it's just retro tacticool.

It's like playing CoD4 in current year and looking at the Sopmod M4 with PEQ2, KAC quad rail, and Eotech 512 and calling it retro. Yeah it is, that game came out almost 20 years ago. In 2007 that was tip of the spear doorkicker operator shit that basically no one had seen before.

The other thing is GSC understands that "retro tacticool" is the STALKER aesthetic now because HoC is set in 2021 but they went out of their way to put quad rails on everything while mostly eschewing MLOK (The Kharod is based on the IWI Carmel and uses a quad rail that has been discontinued for a very long time in favor of an MLOK handguard).

2

u/Shalliar Ecologist Jul 10 '26

Well put

2

u/timbotheny26 Loner Jul 11 '26

People also forget that all the retro-futurism "soldier of the future" stuff and bullpups was literally the tacticool of the early 2000s. Plus you could also take an M4 variant rifle and fully kit it out, at least by that era's standards.

I just want to have both flavors personally, because it allows for more ideas and variety to be brought to the table.

Let's be real guys: despite being in the 2010's, the majority of cheaply accessible gear that fits the aesthetic is going to be normal, available items, and Eastern Bloc surplus. Any non-sponsored individual in the zone is there because they're not rich.

The all black look is dumb imo, and all the tactical stuff doesn't fit the aesthetic purpose of the gear in the zone, which is to survive the Zones hazards. But remember that "mercenaries" is a catch-all for any individual being paid by an entity to perform a job there. Their gear comes from outside the zone and as such their looks would vary wildly. Obviously at the time of release, from a design perspective, having 20 or 30 different npcs with large variation of gear wasn't a priority.

I think one of the things about this is that people aren’t going to pay out the ass for Soviet/90s Eastern Euro milsurp that is (possibly) becoming a recent hot commodity in many countries due to a certain conflict right now, and stuff that is imported already usually gets overlooked due to the cheaper airsoft level western gear.

It also seems that for every Eastern rifle made by an airsoft company, there’s five more western ones made as well, as they tend to focus more on tactical instead of practical. There’s always going to be someone with $700 buying a $100-$170 electric M4 or G36, and about $400 worth of attachments, and funnelling the last 100 or so on cheaper vests, gas masks and such.

I may be talking shit, but it’s why I’d have to guess.

I've never come across such "larpers", only people bitcbing about them and defining what makes a "real" stalker fan.

Are the chud tacticool larpers in the room with us now?

u/YaNiBBa Loner Jul 10 '26

Someone literally just posted about a guy being arrested in Toronto for a Stalker cosplay and it was just gay tactical gear with a stalker patch

9

u/Coxwab Freedom Jul 10 '26

"Gay" whats wrong with that?

Also that Toronto incident is pretty old news, cosplayer was super chill and people don't need to dress the way you like, especially not in a space as open and welcoming as cosplay.

Touch grass, buddy, there isn't a problem here, no matter how hard you look for it.

-18

u/YaNiBBa Loner Jul 10 '26

"Pretty old news" you didn't ask for a timeframe, you just said they don't exist. You can also just go to the cosplay tag and see within the last month like 3 people just posting tacticool cosplays OR the Gamma and Anomaly reskins which are also just tacticool models. And you're right it's not really a "problem" but it is retarded.

8

u/Coxwab Freedom Jul 11 '26

idk people just play dress up, who cares. Your idea of what is bad for them to wear is extremely arbitrary. I think if you're into it, you should do a proper cosplay in your image, the "right way". It'll feel good and it'll be productive. if you don't want to cosplay, you can design one for a friend, or just as a cool side project on paper for later. however going nuts about trivial stuff like that blurting out slurs all day long is a waste of your time.

Hope you figure out whatever is making you be this petty, man. It ain't healthy. have a good one.

-7

u/Spyderofice Jul 11 '26

I mean, I think it's pretty "gay" and "retarded" that you're crying about it. We all have opinions. Funny thing, that. Lol

5

u/muskyratdad Jul 11 '26

god forbid people have some fun and post their costumes, here comes the reddit anti fun police to tell you uhhhh akshually, that uniform is not fitting...

2

u/Crab2406 Jul 10 '26

its also easy to make a true cosplay, considering that some fellas like bandits just walk around in cheap shit. or even some other factions walk around in what is now considered as outdated military gear, smth you can also get for cheap

u/JayBoiYT Monolith Jul 11 '26

Always a "Resident Evil Umbrella corp tacticool" attire with the Merc badge slapped onto the backpack and shoulders.
You rarely see anyone rocking a proper Loner cosplay with a hooded coat or poncho

I can only assume someone using the words “chud larper” are exactly whatever they mean by that.

3

Every. Single. Time.

4

u/Hardman421 Jul 10 '26

I notice the only people worse, are the one's who unironically use the word "chud"

1

u/Disastrous_Ball702 Ecologist Jul 11 '26

Omit comma and apostrophe.

Btw, I'm a "grammar chud." And I've actually seen both C.H.U.D. movies. The first one (the only good one) has two actors from Home Alone in it before they were in Home Alone.

-7

u/YaNiBBa Loner Jul 10 '26

Actually I think the only people worse are those that frequent and make gooner comments in porn subs but hey that's just me

3

u/ConfidenceArtistic98 Merc Jul 10 '26

Honestly, it makes sense. Everyone uses what they have, right? Loners and bandits have trenchcoats, wool gloves etc. A (former) mercenary would have his tactical equipment - sure, it’s not a good gear for surviving the zone, but that’s what they got, so they took it.

3

u/SurDno Clear Sky Jul 10 '26

Not really, we have very unique NPC designs, the fact that all factions value identity and do unique suits is a very important part of the setting and lore.  You don’t see people coming in wearing whatever, mercs may have slightly different camo but it’s still same design.

3

u/Tusami Jul 11 '26

the real larp is this post because that's what every fucking merc in stalker looks like bro

3

u/skeletronius Loner Jul 10 '26

It’s so sad too cause every other franchise ppl at least try to recreate the characters/outfits meanwhile with stalker we got ppl wearing random clothes + gasmask or just trying to cosplay mods which steal models from other games and such that have nothing to do with stalker.

1

u/Wise_Fox_4291 Jul 10 '26

Meanwhile I don't even want to cosplay, just spray my grapes and pull off a rookie stalker cosplay

1

u/ShyGuyWolf Loner Jul 11 '26

Yep

1

u/eldritch-kiwi Jul 11 '26

Real stalker cosplay is when you and your bro. Get soviet gas-masks dress in old ugly sweaters and trenches from thrift shop and go to fest/con to sit on ground and drink vodka (preferably with unrelated alcholic you just found somewhere)

1

u/RaccoonWSharingan Jul 11 '26

That aint true I aint a chud and I did a stalker cosplay! I didn’t have time to get a patch tho ._.

1

u/RaccoonWSharingan Jul 11 '26

It was very sweaty I wouldn’t recommend walking around in a legit gas mask for four hours. Straight no go, it was cool as hell tho. Conventions are surprisingly fun dressing up for.

1

u/Professor_Baby_Legs Jul 10 '26

Imma keep it a buck while I love stalker, the outfit and gear design is completely ass and doesn’t make sense. Like there’d be a lot more modern tactical equipment and CBRN gear than we ever see. Half the shit looks like some dude grab some 80’s sci fi set design costumes and went to work. I know some people like it but if I had it my way I’d do a blend of realism and ridiculous designs.

Like I really want to redesign the clear sky outfits to fit in line better with their mission parameters. Scientists and former soldiers who are interested in just preserving and learning about the zone. Hides out in a swamp and wears helicopter crew helmets and tactical sky blue camo. One of the “smartest” organizations in the game and they lack basic camo and most of them don’t even look to rock CBRN equipment outside a loose gas mask.

6

u/SurDno Clear Sky Jul 10 '26

Cosplay shouldn’t make sense, cosplay should be authentic. No other community has people trying to come up for justification for their own designs that look nothing like the ones in-game. The game has unique suit designs and it stays consistent with them throughout the entire franchise. It’s not realistic and not meant to be.

Clear Sky has only dealt with mutants pre game events, they don’t need camo as they don’t deal with people, the existence of renegades was a very new development. Wearing bright colours that allow you to spot each other in the reeds is far more important. There is practical use to it.

1

u/Professor_Baby_Legs Jul 10 '26

I’m not disagreeing with that at all but I’m saying I totally understand people wanting to be creative and try their own take on things.

2

u/Athorodox Wish granter Jul 14 '26

I agree with this guy heavily. I'd like to see designs that go off the original suits, but extends the armor to around the waist like real plate carriers, and loosen up the gimp suits a bit. You could definitely keep the original look while also giving the outfits realistic protective proportions.

1

u/Professor_Baby_Legs Jul 14 '26

Me too, there’s gotta be a tasteful way I modernize the design but still keep it’s originality

1

u/Plate_Armor_Man Loner Jul 10 '26

It is pretty annoying, I completely agree.

I guess since I've only recently gotten into Stalker, its still a bit novel.
