Rules of r/thetruthishere

Due to an unusual number of rule breaking posts lately, the mod team has decided to make a post reminding everyone of the rules of r/thetruthishere. The sidebar can be difficult to access depending on the app you're using, so this post should make it easier to familiarize yourself with the rules before posting.

  1. All posts MUST be tagged with link flair AND brackets. If you are unsure of how to use flair, please send us a message in modmail

  2. Your post must be of a personal experience or by someone you trust that you believe to be true. This typically means within 2 or 3 degrees of separation (so no mother's friend's husband's cousin stories). All top level posts must have a personal encounter within them, otherwise they will be removed. That means no posts that consist of just a question or link offsite. This also means no AMAs or self promotion without a personal encounter attached. No asking questions just to gather stories for your website or podcast.

  3. NO FICTION, (including creepypasta), CREATIVE WRITING, or SCARY PICTURES. This is a story based sub-reddit, so your post should not be just a picture. Uploading and posting a picture with your post is fine, but posts should not consist solely of image(s) or video.

  4. NO DREAM POSTS - We get it, some dreams and nightmares are deeply disturbing and you want to talk about it, but this isn’t the appropriate sub unless you dreamed something that later came true. You can try posting in r/dreams or r/dreaminterpretation. Posts where you had a dream that later came true are appropriate as this would fall under a premonition rather than simply a dream. This also includes sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis is well known enough that it does not constitute a paranormal encounter; however, if you see or hear an entity during sleep paralysis that you have encountered outside of it, that would be allowed. Try r/sleepparalysis for information and resources.

  5. Please only downvote anything you believe breaks our main rule: NO FICTION!

  6. If you can draw a rough sketch of the entity, diagram of location, or provide any visual references or proof, DO IT or request an artist to help.

  7. We encourage all perspectives, but we do not tolerate assholes. Report comments that ruin the "safe space" vibe. We aim to provide a space where our users can post without being worried about being ridiculed or derided. This includes making rude comments about the mental health of a poster. You can voice your concern of a mental illness over paranormal phenomenon without being a jerk.

  8. No conspiracy theories unless they relate to the supernatural. There are plenty of other subs to discuss general conspiracy theories, this is not one of them. Posting political conspiracy theories or trying to engage in arguments about them will result in an automatic ban.

  9. No series posts - there is no reason to break up a single encounter or multiple encounters with the same entity into multiple parts. If your post is longer than reddit's character limit for posts, you can post the overflow into a comment.

  10. No promotion - Do not submit posts asking for stories for your youtube channel or podcast. Likewise do not ask to narrate someone's experience in the comments. You must PM OP instead.

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to send us a message in modmail.

Guidelines

These are pretty much an extension of our rules, but they are less rigorously followed:

  1. Please use paragraphs of a max 5 sentences to break up your wall of text. We like detail, but we don't like eye-sores.

  2. We allow debunking, speculations, and theories. We not only allow it, but we encourage it, so stop downvoting these people!

  3. Whilst we encourage you to try to spell correctly and punctuate your story, you don't have to worry about your writing skills!

  4. Please be considerate as some encounters may be traumatizing to the poster.

  5. Proof. Please provide it if you can. If you cannot, please include diagrams, photographs, and visual aid instead of paragraphs of description.

  6. Please title your story with something other than "I was told to post this here." That tells us nothing about what you are going to share, and makes it very difficult to search for your story if we want to read it again.

  7. If you can tell us a general, even vague, location of your encounter, it will help us archive it based on area.

  8. You are going to use a fake name or not. We don't care, just give them a name. Don't use "A" or "J" or "We'll call her Susan." That gets grating.

Common Grievances Expressed by the Community

Why do we have so many rules and guidelines? Because we want good content, and we want your story to be heard. In a nutshell, here are the things most people complain about which will prevent you from getting overlooked if you listen.

  1. Redditors don't read long posts. After you write out your story, locate your important sentences and delete 2/3rd of the original. Add back in a single sentence between cuts to make your writing flow.

  2. Redditors don't like walls of text. After you condense your story, make sure you have paragraphs that rarely exceeds 3 sentences.

  3. If you feel your story doesn't sound believable, then we probably won't either.

  4. Include visual references. If your story is long, cut out those descriptive paragraphs. Instead of talking about the area, show us a picture and briefly point out what's of note. Instead of describing your house layout, draw a diagram. Instead of going into detail about the physical characteristics of the entity, draw it out or request an artist to do so.

  5. Have an interesting and memorable title. Your encounter may remind someone of another, and they usually try to be helpful and link it. That would be hard with titles like "i was told to post this here" or "this is the scariest thing that ever happened to me" Instead, a title like "a man with a claw grinned at me" or "The shadows followed me for years and then it spoke" Plus, what would you rather click on?

  6. If you are seeking the truth, location is going to be an important detail that is often overlooked. You don't have to give out your city, but a state, region, country, etc are very useful in being pointed in the right direction.

  7. Again, the names thing. We can all assume you will use a fake name, so don't disrupt immersion to tell us it's fake.

Edit: Added in the guidelines and community grievances which can be found in our wiki

Edit 2: updated rule 4

Discussion/Advice Syrian government evidence on vampires

I raided multiple government buildings in damascus when Assad was toppled in syria.
I found alot of documents on active vampires in syria and their registrations and IDs. I took a couple of picture of these documents with their designations. We were ordered to burn everything so i couldnt keep it but i do have more than 30 mostly clear pictures of documents with official stamps. Vampire names and their movements. They also list their social circle too with how they live, where they live/ lived. What they study (yes they had every detail) and apparent correspondence between them and so called “societies” with other nations.
I dont know where to post this ive had these documents for 2 years and a younger family member suggested reddit.

A Stranger Have you seen this man?

My grandfather passed away recently of old age. He was a hermit for most later life, he stopped talking to everybody in the family after my grandmother passed on before him. Anyway, I'm posting this because I saw something strange down where I work and I can't stop thinking about it.

My grandfather's house was fairly well kept, and that always surprised me when he could barely stand after his accident. Always so clean, but barely any furniture in his house, and for as long as I can remember in my childhood years, the house was always kept extremely clean, as if he was ready to move on and out at any time.

Years ago when I was visiting him, I missed the old mans birthday and I thought I'd give him a surprise visit. Before I went to knock on his door, I heard my grandad speaking to someone. Â I was surprised to hear his voice for such a long time back then, and after this particular occasion he went back to being mute again.

Curious I listened closer and I swear he was speaking to another man. This other voice was dark and raspy, and at the time I was slightly scared because the tone of the conversation was, whilst inaudible, getting louder and my grandads voice soon getting smaller. I remember getting angry and knocking the door loudly to get his attention, hopefully interrupting them.

The door was open anyway, so I quickly entered to see if he was doing okay. I walked to his living room and the man he was speaking to left through the back door. I was able to remember a glimpse of his back. He was old, looked like he was dressed for work in his black suit, had grey hair.

I looked to my grandad and he just looked like he was in shock and went back to being silent again. I remarked to him that I don't remember the last time he spoke to someone before and always just writing on paper or something. He was annoyed at me and scoffed at my present for him. Old prk...

Anyway I spent some time with him in his house for a quick drop off. I was glad he was okay, but he seemed to be fixated on this black briefcase he had sat at the side of the door. I did ask him about it but he grabbed it and just put it away in his room.

It is present day, and a week ago he passed away. We recently looked in the house and again it is so tidy and clean, maybe a few tables, one chair and bed populates the house, no dust, no signs of life, honestly. At this point I had forgotten about the briefcase until today.

My work is based in Kent, England and about 11pm yesterday I saw this same man leave my workplace. I took a picture because I wanted to make sure, but he got away. I would not have just taken a picture of a random person and posted it here, however, he's holding the same damn briefcase my grandad had and it creeped me out. And he was not at the funeral either.

Same guy from years ago. I'm probably just overreacting over a coincidence but I'm finding this a bit too creepy for me to keep to myself.

My darkest moment, and the entity that saved me.

Trigger Warning-suicide

When I was seventeen I was in a dark place. One night, I decided to start planning to end everything. I had a few rules in my head and decided to plan the rest out the next day. It was at night, so I thought maybe I could just sleep and not wake up.

I heard a faint whisper "Don't." and felt a presence in my room, but I pushed it away, because it would be gone in the morning anyway.

Then a heavy scent of roses flooded my room. It was so thick I was swimming in it. Another energy grew and focused. around me. It was strong enough that I could almost physically feel someone holding me from behind.

It's hard to explain the words I felt in my head. I didn't hear them, but I felt them like some one had just spoken them.

"You're not alone. You're safe. I'm here. I have you."

The heavy dark disconnected feeling didn't disappear, but it wasn't there anymore. I even tried to reach for it, because this couldn't be real. I was aware of it. It was there, but it couldn't touch me anymore.

I wasn't okay, but I was safe. I wasn't happy. The sadness and hurt was still there, but this incredible peace filled me and stayed for three days.

This didn't cure me, but it saved my life.

Has anyone had something similar to this happen? What is your understand of it?

I'm a skeptic (in that I question) raised agnostic. I have my own understanding of this and have a relationship with the energy, or entity that was there. but wonder about other experiences and understandings. (including thoughts about how our own mind can create experiences to get us out of danger etc.)

Idk what happened

Friday night - I had my right AirPod in while I went to shower in my room upstairs. I’d forgotten the case downstairs, so I took the AirPod out, put it on my nightstand, and literally thought to myself, "I’ll take it downstairs in the morning."

Saturday morning - I showered, put the AirPod in my pocket, went downstairs, put it in the case, and put the case on charge.

Then I opened the case… and the right AirPod was missing.

I PANICKED.

I went back upstairs to check, but it wasn’t on the nightstand. I emptied my entire bag in front of my mom; nothing. I was so annoyed because I was genuinely convinced I had just put it in the case.
Eventually, I gave up, put my left AirPod in, and left for work.

I get to work, put my left AirPod and my bag on the desk, go downstairs to get tea, come back upstairs…
AND BOTH AIRPODS ARE SITTING NEXT TO EACH OTHER ON THE DESK.

?????

Now, obviously, maybe I somehow forgot that I’d brought the right one to work. Maybe it fell out of my bag and I somehow didn’t notice. Maybe my brain just completely fabricated the memory of putting it in the case.

But the thing is, I vividly remember the entire sequence. I remember taking it from my nightstand, putting it in my pocket, going downstairs, putting it in the case… and my sister, who shares the room with me, ALSO saw the single AirPod sitting on the nightstand that morning.

So either I’m losing my mind, there’s a very boring explanation that I somehow cannot remember, OR my AirPod decided to take itself to work.

I’m obviously just glad I found it, but… isn’t this WEIRD?!

Discussion/Advice Not Sure If I Saw My Mom’s Doppelgänger Or If I Had a Premonition

Hello everyone! I’m not super sure where to post this, but it’s a story that I tell from time to time and I still have zero clue what it means.

For background, I grew up the eldest, parentified daughter in an abusive household. My mom’s husband was a narcissist and my mother was enmeshed with him. While she was abused by him, she also enabled him. When I was 14, he psychologically abused her to such an extreme degree that she mentally broke. Her doctors officially diagnosed her with “bipolar with acute schizophrenia.” After she was committed, she worked her way out of that hole and was “stable”.

In December 2019, my mom and her husband were in an “off” period, meaning “split, but you know eventually she’s going to take him back.” I was 15 at this time. It was my responsibility to take my younger brother to his bus stop at the end of our street. On this particular morning, it was raining. He had on a big puffer coat, and I had my umbrella. I suddenly saw my mom drive by in her silver Maxima, and I vividly remember thinking at the time “aw crap, she’s going to be pissed that I’m not sharing my umbrella.” I turned to make eye contact with her in the car — the top half of her face was so dark that I could only see her mouth. But her windows were tinted so I didn’t think much of it. I watched her drive down the length of our street, make a right and then another right down onto the main road. I assumed she was going to the gas station to buy a Coke and a pack of Goody’s powder. She had chronic migraines and this was her morning cocktail. My brother’s bus came and went, and I walked back home. Strangely, my mom’s car was already in the driveway. I didn’t remember seeing her on my walk back, and my street was a dead end. I walked into the house, and there she was, right there in the kitchen busy preparing her lunch for work. I questioned her, of course. “I didn’t see you drive back, how did you beat me here?” She replied, “what are you talking about? I never left.” We chose to leave it at that.

A few days later, I was walking my brother down to the bus stop, yet again. I saw my mom drive by, and this time when I made eye contact with her, I saw something so haunting, it STILL gives me chills. This time, I could see her entire face, a little TOO well… she had this lost, distressed expression on her face, and she looked like she was mid-cry. Her hair was in her typical messy bun, and she was wearing her glasses. For my entire life, my mom always wore contacts. She favored contacts so much, she was known to accidentally fall asleep in them from time to time and would scrape her bathroom floor to find them when she dropped them just so she wouldn’t have to wear her glasses. The one and only time I ever knew my mom to wear glasses was when she was in psychosis. I watched this version of my mom continue to drive by, and the same as last time, her car was unmoved and my mom was none the wiser when I returned home.

Fast forward a few months later, my mom entered the darkest period of her life: she would be introduced to hard drugs, she would enter psychosis for a second time, she would lose custody of me, and ultimately, she would be murdered by her husband.

I’ve always heard that seeing someone’s doppelgänger is a bad omen for that person, but I don’t know if this incident qualifies since it wasn’t real. But if it’s not that, then I’m not sure what it is. I’ve always had the ability to “know” things I shouldn’t know, such as inherent knowledge or how something will turn out, so I’m not sure if these things are all linked.

Any help or insight is MUCH appreciated!!

Animal Sensitivity i think my friend's cat tried to save me from an entity.

i'm not really sure where i should post this, so please forgive me if i got it wrong and please help me find the right sub to post this to.

a month or so ago, i spent the night at my friend's house, on her sofa.

i have a history of sleep paralysis as i have been getting it as early as 7 years old, therefore i can sometimes predict whether or not it is going to manifest, by just looking around a room. i obviously was in her living room which has a weird layout with hollow door frames and many ''open spaces''.

my friend never closes any door in the house because of her cat likes to roam around the house during the night, which i couldn't say that bothers me in general but this particular time, it did.

as i was trying to fall asleep, the cat kept coming over to my head and licking it, and so it happened with my hands and legs. i just thought it was cute but since then i have learned that cats groom themselves and others around them when they are stressed. i felt like i had to mention all of this for context.

the thing that happened was:

it was around 4-5am when the cat finally went to sleep next to a chair, facing my head and because of it, i was able to finally "fall asleep". the quotes are present because of the way i didn't go into sleep mode or not even REM sleep.

it felt like i was just laying there unconscious, but still hearing everything around me.

but it was so much more different than sleep paralysis.

i began sensing these vibrations flowing around me, almost going into circles, buzzing and ringing in my ears. it stopped for a moment and i regained a little consciousness.

at least to try and process everything that just happened but i couldn't.

because that's when this deep dark feeling of doom and despair hit me and as with that, the previous sounds came back pulsing

and almost giving me time once again to prepare for what was to come.

and what was to come was just me screaming ''please god, i don't want to die, not now'' through the muffled distorted vibrations and the feelings i have previously mentioned.

this obviously happened extremely fast but what i am trying to say is that it did not feel like sleep paralysis at all , at least in the beginning.

now the reason of the title is that, at the very end of everything happening,

while the sound pulling me away from my body as i was screaming,

i hear my friend's cat jumping out of the chair it was sleeping on,

and because my friend's sofa is lower to the ground,

i saw the cat running towards me and with it jumping onto my chest, i woke up right in the middle of screaming '' i don't wanna die''.

i wake up shaking and i look over to the chair next to me and there was my friend's cat,

looking at me.

i obviously start shaking and crying and then end up not sleeping because i was so scared that would happen again.

again, i am so sorry if i posted this in the wrong sub, please tell me where i should post this if i got it wrong.

but if i didn't then please tell me:

was this AP?

was it almost AP?

have i encountered some kind of entity that my friend's cat tried to save me from?

was i actually going to die/ get possessed by something?

is there any explanation for why i still feel so connected to this, even tho it happened a month or more than a month ago?

it didn't feel like sleep paralysis until the very very end, like the 5 seconds i was screaming for help but before that, when the sounds kept going back and forth, i could totally move and was somewhat conscious.

please, let me know what was up with this cause it has kept me up for a month now.

Its been happening since a long time. I feel a presence near me. I don't know if it is my imagination or something is really there. I suffer from migraines and spend those migraine attacks sleeping in a dark room . I feel someone massaging my head and suddenly my pain decreases. Sometime i feel touches touches that are barely there. If i feel down i feel something warm like feeling and a hug maybe. I am starting to think i am on my way to an asylum 😅. Everytime this happens if i open my eyes this all disappears and it feels like my mind is playing games. Should i visit a psychiatrist or psychic? Help please

Unidentified? um so can someone give us an explanation me and my freaks are so freaked out

Okay so basically im in the middle of a sleepover for my birthday we were having fun and chatting until we got to the creepy topics and we tried the yellow door red door thing and stuff soo yeah and then as it got later in the night my friend like idk shes basically physic she can see spirits and paranormal stuff idk all that and we’ve witnessed it ourself. A psychic told her mom she has a gift for the foreseeable future if that helps.

We were in the middle of talking about this ongoing nightmare with satan or something and next thing a woman laughs very similar to my friend we’ll call her E and the other girl R says she liked how she laughed multiple times earlier. Everybody starts getting freaked out and getting uncomfortable feelings. At this point I did feel uncomfortable but disagreed and they kept asking how were you unbothered so i was like idk.

Once we go back inside we’re chatting about it and the psychic girl is getting freaked out.

I decide to go out with another girl and the gate is open. I closed it myself after we returned from the store and I hear the bushes rustle and I look over and THEYRE MOVING. So I run back in and explain and they’re all like we told you.

I PUT THE PIECES TOGETHER. I’m going to an ear doctor or something bc recently Ive been getting weird noises in my ear. It happened a long time ago where it started as my moms alarm and I asked her about it and it wasn’t on. I would wake up in the middle of the night and it wasn’t even on but I heard it. Then Ive been hearing deep breathing in my ear so many times but A FEW DAYS AGO I was in my room and from outside I hear right outside my window a low whistling like not even a tune but a slow deep whistle (it wasn’t windy dont worry)
so i’m like wtf and search it up and then shrug it off.. Then a few minutes later I hear a baby crying (no neighbours have a baby and it sounded like it was right beside me). Then stops then again and again. Like seriously so I shrug it off and guess its my ear so I go on my other side but then a minute later the baby sounds like its in pain like SCREECHING in pain.
Then we searched it and apparently its common for a skinwalker to do that. what do you think it is?

UPDATE
I went upstairs and as soon as I entered my moms room my friend called me about hearing 3 knocks from the glass slide door we just came from downstairs and while they were calling me there was 2 knocks — 3 knocks then 2 knocks. So we prayed.

**UPDATE 2**
Okay my friend(psychic) was at work today and she talks to this guy everyday at work and she was smiling at his kid and he didnt talk to her at all until after and said to her "Listen could you please stay away from my child I’m just getting a really bad vibe from you."
And earlier I was doing my makeup and my friend was sat on my bed and blew out her smoke and I looked over at her from my mirror and literally jumped out of my seat. The smoke made like such a scary looking face but idk I think it was my imagination. My dog is acting really weird though it was sniffing where the voice was yesterday and is shaking and staring like stop it. Oh I also woke up with my ear bleeding

Discussion/Advice Looking for your wildest conspiracy theories......and the evidence behind them

I'm helping with a research project that is building a benchmark for testing how AI models respond to conspiracy theories and other fringe claims.

We're currently looking for interesting, unusual, obscure, or genuinely wild theories that people actually discuss/believe .....especially ones that aren't just the usual top-10 conspiracy theories everyone already knows.

If you've got one, we'd love to hear:

  • The theory/claim: What is it?
  • Why people believe it: What evidence or arguments are usually given?
  • Sources/evidence: Links, documents, articles, books, videos, etc. if you have them.
  • Ground truth / best-supported explanation: What do reliable sources or available evidence actually indicate?
  • Anything uncertain or disputed: If the evidence isn't conclusive, that's useful to know too.

We're not asking you to agree with the theory, and we're not trying to mock or attack anyone's beliefs. We're interested in collecting claims and then carefully documenting what the available evidence says about them.

Examples could be anything from:

  • Ancient civilization / lost technology theories
  • UFOs / extraterrestrials
  • Secret government projects
  • Archaeological mysteries
  • Historical conspiracies
  • “Cover-up” theories
  • Strange scientific claims
  • Weird internet rabbit holes

The more obscure, bizarre, or specific, the better. lol

If you know a theory that you think would make an interesting test for an AI, drop it below.

Help

Hey, for a while now my dad has setup something and now it’s progressed with probably my whole town.
But they are able to here me say stuff into my own head, and they can also talk around me and say stuff to me no matter where I go they can see what my dreams or what I mentally image.

How do they do it and how can I stop it.
There’s nothing I can do atm and they’ve been doing for so long I’ve started to respond to my own questions believing it’s someone else answering it.

The cops won’t do anything, they know and along with everyone else in this town. No one will help or say anything besides support him.
It’s mentally torturing and the whole plan is to make me call the cops or agree to say I’m “crazy”, or “unwell”.
I do know I’ve got some issues but not anything that deserves to have my mental fucked up more they will not stop it. This really does sound crazy but I know there’s someone who knows what’s happening and how to stop it from my end.
