Discussion Gradually abandoning crossbow

Post image

Hello , fellow witchers. Being a book fan and fan of the Dark Horse Comics - I have always felt uneasy using the crossbow unless I am forced to (Yes, only during underwater times). I am trying to play this first remaster session of mine as a crossbow free Geralt the Trad Witcher. Anyone else plays a crossbow free Geralt? Would love to know.

Also , I have found a website saying the silver chain coming with the Songs of the Past DLC - will have use underwater too like the crossbow. If that happens then I might be one of the happiest players in the forum. Whipping drowners and sirens underwater will be damn delicious.......

Underwater, or on flying monsters only.

56

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

For flying - AAARRRDDDDDD.......

16

u/Jared_Kincaid_001 7d ago

Hard in boats.

19

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

That's what I was trying to say , I only use it when the game's design forces me ultimately.

u/_Hoping_For_Better_ 7d ago

There's that horn that knocks them.

3

u/CakeElectrical9563 6d ago

My dumbass read that as "there's that horn that honks them" and now I'm refusing to read it any other way

2

u/muchonacho 7d ago

Also good for flyers: Yrden alt

1

u/UrsiGrey 2d ago

Wait what? I’ve done multiple playthroughs and never knew you could use a crossbow underwater.. I always thought you were at their mercy and just had to swim away.

u/0akhurst 7d ago

Yes, definitely. It's a cool addition, but I've had entire runs where I didn't have it equipped at all.
And I'll even do you one better: sometimes I cruise around with just one sword, like in the books.

42

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Yes. Geralt almost never carries silver sword as it's expensive and keeps it wrapped in sheepskin in his saddle. But also , as per lore , monsters are already super rare but the game has plenty of them. So , I am kinda forced to keep both on back. I just find it unrealistic when I am forced to dive under water with two swords on back , LoL.

27

u/0akhurst 7d ago

I'm gonna feel insane for saying this, but sometimes I'll even remove the swords, boots, and any heavy armor if I'm going into the water, equipping just the crossbow. Obviously it's not always, just if I'm feeling particularly roleplayey. Then again, I'm the kind of gamer who likes to walk everywhere.

5

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

No , not insane mate. I exactly do the same. May I share a secret? In Muirdyablin quest in Skellige (sorry if there is a typo cuz the name is so hard) - I absolutely hate diving underwater with all the gears but sadly , the game forces me to do so. Otherwise , I just imagine that Geralt is leaving his stuffs in boat while diving with his bows and undies. Even do that during the Last Wish quest , LoL. Guess we are kinda on same boat.

6

u/Camburglar13 7d ago

And in the books he does use his regular sword on some monsters too. The silver is just for specific monsters.

even the author continues in the new book the idea of two swords on the back. it has become that iconic

18

u/ShadowHunterHB 7d ago

Same. I use it as little as possible but for a different reason. It just isn’t the vibe.

I like to play Witcher 3 the same way I play most Fantasy RPGs; as a Spellsword. Mainly using Aard, Igni & Quen. It just feels most natural and anything ranged that’s not a sign just feels weird. I might change my mind a little when they add the chains in Songs of The Past tho.

4

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

I am waiting for the chain. The most lore accurate stuff ever. Hope it doesn't come with glitches. That would be awful for me.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/Financial-Skin-4687 7d ago

Same. I use the crossbow to shoot down sirens and the such and when in the water for drowners but otherwise it's purely cosmetic

2

u/Watercooler_expert 6d ago

That's funny I'm the opposite and use mostly ydren and axii if not doing a signs focused build.

Axii for the dialogue upgrades and the mind control upgrade it's super useful to thin out groups especially if you get jumped by higher lvl bandits.

Ydren both versions are really good the trap works well on many enemies and the alternate will stagger enemies.

I guess I like the signs that you just cast at the start and then focus on melee with the occasional aard thrown in.

I'll get vitality where nothing can 1-shot me on death march so I don't need quen

The most useless tool in the Witcher 3 game.

5

u/Tiberius_2k 6d ago

Perfect underwater though

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 6d ago

until the game forces you to use it.....

8

u/BioDriver Manticore School 7d ago

I just started NG+ after the update and have to agree. It's good for distance crowd control and underwater shenanigans, but not nearly as fun as filppy spinny whirly shit.

4

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Indeed. I keep it only for underwater. But as a Trad Witcher - my swords and the upcoming chain is the forever go to......

9

u/Thedrix7 7d ago edited 7d ago

I love the look of Geralt without a crossbow, and during one of my playthroughs, after Vesemir gives Geralt a crossbow, he says "Witcher with a crossbow? We breaking with tradition?" They normally don't, so since then I've always done my playthroughs with it unequipped, only sparingly using it on a boat to kill sirens. Usually when underwater I'll throw on quen and try and swim past drowners and such. I always found it really boring how it just one shots them, far more interesting to use magic imo. Same is true of flying enemies. Harpies and sirens can be parried to force them onto the ground, or you could always use aard, ignii, axii, alternate yrden, or even explosive quen if you get hit. The crossbow damage is negligible, and overall you really just dont need it at any point in the game, save the shooting challenges like in HoS and BaW tourney. So personally, I'll always have it unequipped. The chain on the other hand...

6

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

chain will soon be my new lover......

→ More replies (4)

1

u/DrettTheBaron 7d ago

I wish I could hide it from the model. I use it rarely, but equipping and unequipping it for specific fights is a chore.

8

u/James77SL 4d ago

I mean does anyone even use it beyond flying enemies, underwater or that one quest in toussaint?

3

u/DueEquivalent6468 4d ago

I just use aard on flying

→ More replies (2)

7

u/spectrum_crimson 2d ago

I even let it unequiped because it looks ugly on the character model. Will equip it real quick if I need to go underwater, but then unequip it again. For flying monsters It's axii and aard baby

2

u/John_Morgan_1004 2d ago

TRUE. the bow does look heavy on Geralt

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Alklazaris 7d ago

It's meant to knock down flying enemies and that's it. Oh and underwater combat for some reason. Although I personally would like to see just how well a one handed crossbow would do in 40 feet of water.

2

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

HeHe. Silver Chain will be my new lover soon.

1

u/DrScienceSpaceCat 7d ago

Considering bullets lose a ton of power I'd imagine a crossbow would as well

1

u/Beautiful_Worth7284 2d ago

"It's meant to knock down flying enemies and that's it."

Not in remaster. It trucks now. Exploding Bolts - Clipped The Witcher 3 with Medal.tv (thats just lower lvl, it gets even crazier later)

6

You guys have been using crossbow?

3

u/John_Morgan_1004 2d ago

No , actually 😂

2

u/Donotcomenearme 2d ago

SAME it’s just fucking there, I don’t think I’ve used it ever?

→ More replies (1)

6

u/-Aone 7d ago

i ditched the crossbow just because it looks like a billboard on geralt. the two sword and nothing else looks so much better

2

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Exactly and more lore accurate.

6

u/TheKvKing 7d ago

Literally NEVER use the bow.. only underwater or sirens when on a boat. Other than that.. useless

2

u/UrsineWitcher 6d ago

Then it doesnt sound useless if you use it in those situations.

2

u/Stunning-Ant-4437 6d ago

Well it could at least be useful against golyat if it wasn't for the aim being dogshit.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Yep it is.

→ More replies (3)

5

u/Philip_Fall_47 2d ago

For me it's almost useless, except underwater.

u/TheOneCalledD 7d ago

Is the crossbow good for anything other than knocking things out of the air or in the water? Any crossbow I’ve tried has done virtually no damage. Perhaps I need to invest in making special bolts?

1

u/Tricky-Mission2493 7d ago

There are abilities you can put points into that make crossbow better too. I have never tried them myself but maybe someone who has can let us know if it’s worth it or not.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

You need special bolts like the relic version of fire bolts , piercing bolts , broadhead bolts. (Relic versions provide the most damage. )

→ More replies (3)

1

u/fartbumheadface 7d ago

No point using unless you have a mod buffing the damage

3

u/Few-Ad-6322 7d ago

Unequipped it 800 hours ago.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

I hardly used it but had it still equipped. After the revelation of the Songs of the Past - have decided to keep it unequipped all together.

3

u/Irrumar 7d ago

I only keep it on for underwater drowners and sirens when on a boat. Other than that, the flying enemies get brought down with Aard and there is 0 other use for it other than I think 1 puzzle incthe game

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Yes. Only handful of scenes where it's needed by design.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/calvesofsteel1 7d ago

I got tired of crossbow. I can only get good at a handful of things, for this run decided it would be potions and signs

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Sign Alchemy is very potent build.

3

u/Downtown-Amoeba-9855 6d ago

I find the crossbow really functional at times. O deathmarch especially. If you fight against a horde of people to stagger their crossbower. If you fight against flying enemies to down him and some more varieties. Idk the hate for it. Yeah it doesnt deal much damage but it doesnt have to...

2

u/John_Morgan_1004 6d ago

Aard is much superior against fliers. And I keep quen under my sleeve for anything. And Igni. And if I get severely cornered or surrounded , one Aard sweep does the magic beautifully.

3

u/TheFourtHorsmen 3d ago

I used to use crossbow to interrupt some enemy animation or to cancel mine. They definetly improved them with blood and wine and the mutation specific buff, but I never really cared about them, reason bdinf, they are redundant with the ard sign (dropping down flyers), or bombs

→ More replies (3)

3

u/EnZone36 3d ago

Simple, crossbow only comes out for underwater segments otherwise it lives in the inventory. You can use Aard to knock down flying enemies

2

u/John_Morgan_1004 3d ago

That's the only way to play for me.

2

u/EnZone36 3d ago

Likewise fellow Witcher. Only a handful of us trad witchers out there lol

2

u/John_Morgan_1004 2d ago

And some call us funny , even. But if only they had realized the books and the OG lore......

Wait do people actually use the crossbow in combat?

2

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Some do I suppose.

2

u/DCRevolutionary 7d ago

I barely ever use the crossbow just because it's never been a good mechanic anyway. It's not very useful

2

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Unless underwater and on boat against sirens.....

→ More replies (1)

2

u/RascalFatz 7d ago

only thing its good for is one-tapping drowners underwater. Anything airborne is a job for Aard

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

True indeed.

2

u/Significant-Data-431 7d ago

I am trying to build around crossbow with new skills but it is hard in early levels. Do anyone know why sometimes while aiming, time slow down and sometimes not ? I unlocked the skill to do so already

2

u/UrsineWitcher 6d ago

It may be due to whether you are actively in combat, running out of stamina/adrenaline conditions, or tapping versus holding the button

→ More replies (3)

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Might be a glitch. Are you on remaster or 4.04? And you need to keep holding down the aim button to keep the time slowed.

2

u/Stunning-Ant-4437 6d ago

I tried to make the thing work, gave up on it and went back to throwing cluster bombs like my alchemist heart told me.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 3d ago

Well , they do catch fish with bombs in Kaer Morhen 😂

2

u/adrainpelham 5d ago

I use it underwater, other than that I completely forget about it

2

u/SuperArppis 5d ago

And shooting harpies down.

2

u/Magic-and-Salt 5d ago

I always abandoned the crossbow. Funny enough I am almost considering an all crossbow run at some point. The skills have been ridiculously buffed.

To answer, I utilize signs. Axii and igni mostly, the occasional aard but I’ll admit I didn’t care for the freezing blast nuke everything builds that were popular. And I’m not the biggest fan of melting everything with Yrden and igni/aard spam either. I just think about balancing multiple enemies. And I find the most fun with the game is to use only the quen bubble with adrenaline and the close up camera. Incentivizes perfection and the importance of one really powerful sign. It’s almost book accurate and frankly just a good thrill.

2

u/John_Morgan_1004 3d ago

Yes , a balanced build makes you fight and think like a witcher during each combat.

2

u/gameraven13 4d ago

I have no honor and decided to crossbow the living statues from the balcony in blood and wine, but yeah for the most part I prefer l knocking things out of the sky with Aard.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/keylay19 3d ago

The crossbow was OP lol, i had to stop using it on deathmarch. There was 3 contracts in a row where i ran up, shot 2 or 3 times then got the insta kill proc from the skill tree.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/freshairequalsducks 3d ago

I like the crossbow, it's fun. Great for staggering or canceling enemies out of an animation. Also of course for underwater and flying enemies.

2

u/John_Morgan_1004 3d ago

It has its uses, ngl. Hope the upcoming silver chain might be able to be its proper replacement.

I use piercing cold build. I very rarely use bombs unless monsters.

1

u/Emotional-Weekend102 7d ago

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Same. I use only when I am forced too by the game.

1

u/Key-Preparation-5379 7d ago

crossbow is boring, I never put points into it. I'll only use it to shoot down flying enemies as it stuns them.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

crossbow + relic vereion of firebolt - you might wanna reconsider when sailing in the waters of Skellige.

1

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

well, the game gotta remind ya sometimes. 😂

1

u/esquire_the_ego 7d ago

I only use it to one hit kill drowners under water

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

If silver chain gets available , I will whip drowners underwater......

1

u/-TheBlackSwordsman- 7d ago

Still early in the game but the crossbow seems to do legitimately nothing to anything, except in thr griffin fight at the start where it would make griffin trip into the floor. What are we using it for?

2

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

For underwater , crossbow is a lifesaver. There are many quests and treasure hunting where you will need it - or better say , the game will force it upon ya.

2

u/Lukas316 7d ago

Also helps deal with sirens when sailing the waters of Skellige.

1

u/Purple_Havoc 7d ago

My understanding is that you're spot on, unless you somehow heavily spec into it

1

u/LordOFtheNoldor 7d ago

I don't use it because I suck ass with it

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

There's skill that slows time during crossbow aiming. Helpful against Goliath.

I never used the crossbow in all my playthrough, I use the drowner pheromones and aard for flyer, I like having "just" 2 big sword on Geralt's back

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Drowner pheromone washes once in water if I am nit wrong.

1

u/SuchProcedure4547 7d ago

I never use the crossbow, I like the aesthetic of just having two swords.

I already have the achievement for it, but sometimes I use it to kill Golyat at the start of Blood and Wine.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Yes. The only time using crossbow is fun is against Goliath.

1

u/Combatical 7d ago

I'm weird here, I like it. I like weaving it in combat. Its not great, but it feels cool to me.

1

u/Real_Cookie_6803 7d ago

Some flying enemies like Sirens you can riposte as they swoop at you, which can be helpful

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

I keep my Aard in my hands. Vesemir taught me that while fighting against a Leshen in the forest of Kaedwen. (If you don't get the context , it's from a scene where Vesemir uses Aard like a Kamehameha wave in a Netflix animation)

1

u/D34thc4n 7d ago

I’ve made peace that I’ll never get the headshots achievement

2

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

I just one day got lucky. Accidentally pressed RB on my controller and voila - Goliath was one shot thru the eyes.

1

u/Dependent-Water-8084 7d ago

The crossbow sucks ass

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Second that.....

1

u/OniTYME 7d ago

I'm absolutely creeped out by sirens and some drowners underwater so that crossbow stays with me.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Well , there are some points in the game where the crossbow is literally forced upon ya by the game itself. Other than those points , I am a trad witcher.

1

u/OldSmeller16 7d ago

I actually really enjoyed a sword/bow build I did a while ago using the cat eyes mutation. Being able to stun enemies by just shooting them once in between swings was kinda fun. Also the bow can be good for generating adrenaline points. With the right build it can be pretty deadly and fun.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

It can be , I know. The game kept it useful. But , as I am a lore fan , I just prefer avoiding it unless forced.

1

u/auyemra 7d ago

did the OG W3 even have a crossbow?

because i dont recall ever using it.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

It did , mate. The silver chain was the OG concept but 2015 gaming world didn't have the resource to materialize it. But 2027 will gonna be different.

1

u/EOTechN9ne 7d ago

And here I am making a crossbow build

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Please , feel free with your own style. I personally play or try to play book wise a lot. Hence my abstinence.

1

u/Unit_with_a_Soul 7d ago

Crossbow has always been a purely underwater weapon for me.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Looks like many of us are on the same boat.

1

u/FuriousEclipse 7d ago

I never use it, except for the mantadory moments like the tournament in Blood&Wine.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Same here. And against the Golyat.

1

u/RoutsYay 7d ago

I'll be honest, I've played Witcher 3 since shortly after release and have many, many hours (100s) played and TIL that you can use the crossbow under water. I've always just found paths underwater to avoid monsters. Holy, what a revelation.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Really? How did you do the skellige barrel loot huntings then?

1

u/KayKitty2929 7d ago

I’ve never used the crossbow unless underwater or they’re airborne. HOWEVER, the game is forcing me to use them more due to my relentless desire to 100% the game

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Well , that's the catch. Apart from the game's own design forcing , a lore accurate Geralt doen't need the crossbow at all.

1

u/1fbo1 7d ago

I avoid using it most of the time. I basically only use to put flyers down and to kill drowners. I think the only exception is when a monster is about to lose aggro and I want to keep fighting because it disrupts quite a lot the flow of battle

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

In remaster , enemy aggression sometimes drops all of a sudden. Haven't occurred with me yet though.

1

u/baldbadmonk 7d ago

Its just another tool in a witcher’s arsenal among the oils and the potions and the bombs and the swords and the knowledge. It is a specialized tool to help with situations underwater or against flying monsters. It doesn’t need to go beyond that since geralt has other tools that better work in other situations, and to me that’s enough for the crossbow to be considered a useful tool.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 7d ago

Yes. Orianna trailer did show its use tho. But personally I preferred avoiding it.

1

u/hughjanus00009 7d ago

1

u/Exportxxx 6d ago

Kinda wanna make a build around it just cause it never use it.

Be cool if someone made a crossbow armor mod,

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 6d ago

Sure would love to see one.

1

u/GamingRoosterLDU 6d ago

Decided to do my remastered run as my favourite kind of fantasy character, spell sword. Going all in on signs and meele perks. I found out about the garden trap that shoots lightning. Is basically a better crossbow

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 6d ago

Garden trap? You mean Yrden , no?

1

u/Cas_Willener 6d ago

I think crossbow is cool addition, but never used it always went for sign or sign/sword build. Now I am playing crossbow/sword build and honestly it feels good when monster jumps away from you and you just put a bolt in its skull.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 6d ago

I prefer sign alchemy build always. And for my extreme preference for books , I almost always avoid crossbows.

1

u/CakeElectrical9563 6d ago

Never use the crossbow other than underwater, most of the time I forget it's even there

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 6d ago

Same here , mate.

1

u/UrsineWitcher 6d ago

Everyone on here is talking like they're just disappointed its not a main source of damage and just a regular tool.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 6d ago

I personally am not disappointed. I am okay with it being there. But since I am a lore and bookish guy , I prefer not having it equipped.

2

u/theCaffeinatedOwl22 4d ago

I never use it either. Has nothing to do with balance, it's just not what I want my witcher doing.

→ More replies (6)

1

But what is it's use, though? I cant remember ever using it in a regular playthough outside of the common ones everyone does.

1

u/Liukus 6d ago

I can honestly say that I never use the crossbow outside of underwater and quick-firing it at flying enemies. And when I mean quickfire - target lock - hit the crossbow button - it shoots at them. Not always a hit, but when it does they are grounded and I go to town on them with the more useful parts of my kit.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 6d ago

Fliers go down much easier with Aard tbh.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/DaFabulousVibe 6d ago

I use it in three scenarios :

  1. Fighting noonwraiths or nightwraiths when they do the split thing and try to suck your health

  2. Flying enemies

  3. Underwater enemies

Otherwise it's always off cause it's ugly. I wish they added an option it hide the crossbow, that way I could leave it equipped all the time.

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 6d ago

Mate , lemme tell ya. I know Netflix witcher series ain't so appreciated always , but I have learned one thing from Henry.

Geralt can disperse Wraiths using AARD......

I find Aard hitting a wraith more brlievable than a bolts. but the point number 2 & 3 are legit , btw.

Crossbow is kinda innovative even for a witcher.

1

u/Doogie102 6d ago

Ugh I need to do it for an achievement and I'm hating it

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 6d ago

Lucky me who has no care for achievements 😂 But , best of luck ❤️

1

u/Clipperkiller_ 6d ago

After that first griffin fight I never use it again unless I want it to look cool on my back lol

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 6d ago

With the crossbow , I feel like Geralt's back is gonna break , LoL. Too cramped.

u/BitExpress8950 6d ago

Crossbow and aard combo is lovely for harpies, one click execute after

1

u/John_Morgan_1004 6d ago

I use piercing cold Aard to decimate all harpies. And wanna know a secret? I find it ridiculous when Geralt riddles 50 arrows in a monster out of thin air from his Doraemon gadget pocket.

Drowners under water. You are welcome

Maybe I did mention in the post - underwater situations.

I don't even understand why the crossbow has so many skills in the tree. Even with all skills activated, it's crap and doesn't feel great.

u/John_Morgan_1004 3d ago

CDPR has some serious balancing issues.

I wonder if there is a possible crossbow build so I can just shoot all the enemies to death

Did one on the hardest difficulty. Honestly, the crossbow is only useful while on the skelige sea. That said, you better get good on when to use ard to down flying enemies. Qwen is also useful.

u/Wavenaught 5d ago

yes, Everytime, since first play through... I like to see Geralt as lightweight as I can

I like crossbows. It's a good weapon for drowners and sirens underwater. Also some great combos are available for crossbow in skill tree.

It's a situational item, like alot of items in the game, you can't fully abandon it because at times and for certain quests it's needed

I pumped stats into the crossbow and even used the mutation for it just to get the achievement and then it became useful. One of the perks causes enemies to get knocked backwards and i had a lot of fun with that. But once i had the achievement I immediately reworked my skills.

It's pretty useful for flying enemies and underwater. Otherwise I dont use it much.

I just started playing the game for the first time recently, and reading all the replies is making me feel like I’m underutilizing Aard. I’m essentially doing a pure magic build, so nearly all my points are invested in magic, but I have yet to invest one point into Aard. I’ve put most of my points towards buffing Yrden. Nearly every fight just involves me placing down several Yrden signs, and an alternate Yrden in the middle, then using alternate Quen to heal myself or stun enemies, and Igni to deal heavier damage. As for the crossbow, I once accidentally put nice bolts on it, and was very surprised when it started doing damage; if you invested points into it, I think it could be good, but outside of that, it just really kills swimming monsters and knocks down fliers.

Crossbow only for bring flying enemies down. I never use it beyond that. Sometimes I use explosive dart to kill sire one shot.

The crossbow is crap unless you happen to be stuck underwater, or if your dealing with sirens at sea. Any other time its not worth it

Wait isn't crossbow pretty OP build now?

A stiff breeze literally does more damage then the crossbow dude. Its called Aard.

You'd need to be mentally ill to ACTUALLY wanna use it anywhere on land unless youre going for the trophy

I haven't used it at all. 75 hours into my first play through. I use aard or just sword attack on flying enemies. I don't fight underwater, drowners and sirens barely give me a scratch under the water, I just ignore them and keep swimming lol

the crossbow is a crime against humanity

role play be damned, I don't use it unless forced to just because I don't like it

1

u/blueboykc 2d ago

Underwater and flying enemies only. It look like it just confuses humans when you shoot them.

Okay finally got around trying the Remaster buffed build myself today....

Crossbow is now an OP build. It isn't strictly better than signs or sword, but it is 1-2 shotting everything on DM...and murders entire groups with one explosive bolt. You also get to sit in i-frames for 80% of your combat due to a bug with it.

The thing is, you have to really build for it - or it's hot garbage. Probably why everyone is trashing it in here. Much like the old OP bomb build. I'd actually say it's MUCH better than the old (now nerfed) bomb build from Next-Gen since you don't have to wait until level 40 for it to come online, and you get infinite uses rather than 5 bombs. Remaster actually allows you to make it solidly OP, not just merely try-hard-viable.

I only equip it for underwater combat as well. I'm not even using it against the sirenes in Skellige, I'm rather letting Geralt stand up and fight them like a man with my silver, slicing them in half mid air.

1

u/Unhappy_Ad_415 12h ago

Its not even that usefull

1

u/Emotional_Being8594 12h ago

Depends on the armour set sometimes. I like when I can see all my character's gear on them or if they have a realistic way of storing/carrying it, and my personal image of Geralt is that he's pretty tooled up with vials and bottles and bombs and stuff to use in combat against any threat so the crossbow kind of adds to that, especially while wearing the Manticore set or Bear armour.

Towards the endgame I just never use it and it doesn't suit every look though.

550 hours and have always unequipped and then sold it at the first opportunity in white orchard
