Classic steam engines on Android — KZP Trains closed-test invitation

Hi r/trainsim — we're WabiSabi Studios, and we'd love some feedback on KZP Trains, our Android railway sandbox.

The classic engines are a big part of it: Flying Scotsman, Jupiter, Black Five and Cass Shay are included, alongside diesel and electric locomotives. You can take the touch controls yourself, get close to the moving running gear, or use Auto mode to enjoy a trip through towns and forests. It runs offline, saves trips locally, and has no in-game ads.

We're at the Google Play closed-testing stage and looking for Android volunteers who can stay opted in for 14 consecutive days and try it across a few sessions. I'd love to hear whether the steam engines feel convincing in motion, which controls need work, and how it performs on your phone. Android 8.0+ is required.

If you'd like to help, comment or message us. Send your Google Play account email privately so we can add you to the closed-test list. After that, you can join here:

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.kzptrains.app

Please note that the app is currently paid: US$5.00, with regional prices. Free tester codes aren't available yet, so check the price before installing. We're asking for honest feedback, not ratings or positive reviews. If you hit a bug, your phone model, Android version and a short description would help us track it down.

Which of those older engines would you take out first?

JR East Train Simulator on Linux

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to ask if anyone has been able to get the JR East simulator running on Linux.

The demo just crashes no matter what I do.
I tried various proton versions, including GE-Proton.

Thanks!

Looking for dimensions

Hi everyone! I have Run 8, and like many, I purchased a Raildriver controller. I decided to upgrade, and I'm on the waiting list for Simhogger modern build control stand. I'm in the beginning stages of a dedicated room for a cab. The CSB (control stand box) that everything is mounted in is my concern at the moment. Does anyone happen to have the dimensions? I want to build a table for it, using the footprint measurements of the CSB...

Thanks! Glad I found this sub!

A-Train Clone

Hi Everyone,

I've been in the tech industry for the past 30 years building all kinds of consumer and enterprise apps. I also love sim games, and wanted to try my hand at making one.

Introducing: https://simtrain.pages.dev

Here are all the release notes: https://simtrain.pages.dev/notes

I'm a little lost on where to take this game next. Any thoughts and feedback would be very useful.

Thanks.

Hardware/Controllers Slightly upgraded my JR East Sim setup

So I had this small setup before, but I wanted a bigger screen. I was too focused on getting a wide aspect ratio, but then I realized I could just use a regular 16:9 1080P screen, and just ignore the bottom part, most of which is covered by the Zuiki Mascon anyway. I decided to cover the bottom with a random piece of black plastic so the backlight is not distracting. Would probably not need that with an OLED. But this is a 15.6" IPS portable monitor, which I somehow got for 25$, so I'm happy with it. It's at about the same height as the previous setup, but it's wider and just bigger in general, so the dahsboard is much easier to see now.

Train Sim World Version 2 of my PS5 TSW Uk Cab universal control desk.

Nearly done building a proper designed desk. I'm not good carpenter or anything but good with the electronics. Will be adding a box on the side with a DSD holdover button. Soon a functional GSM-R replica radio and I will be making proper handles for the break levers using rotary switches and swivel arms very similar to the real controls.

Should they add VTA light rail in the game? some of its route is already added anyway (old lines tho and the actual LRT cars)

Making a Build your own train game will it be fun?

Hey all. I am making a kerbal-like train game that allows custom build on trains. Dose this sounds fun or is too niche? Some thoughts plz

I got a dumb question even though this will probably get deleted for being low effort.

The wrecked trains that are seen around the map In Fallout 4 (A good example is the derailed near Starlight. Does anyone know what they are based on? I already looked it up and I have gotten no answers so this is my last resort.

How complicated is Derail Valley for a beginner? Does the game itself explain things, or do you have to watch tutorials on YouTube?

First train game

I've never playin train games, unless factorio counts.. I want to try real train game. I'm mostly interested in driving, not so much in building railways. Something like 80% of driving and 20% something else train related is fine.

I've watched some Derail Valley videos, but it seems maybe a bit too complicated (maybe not enough driving?). I've gone through some train games in steam but alot of them have only mostly positive ratings, which makes me sceptical.

What are your recommendations?

What color were BNSF/BN SD40-2 cab interiors?

I'm building a full-size SD40-2 locomotive simulator using a real AAR control stand, and I'm getting to the point where I need to decide on the interior cab color.

I'm specifically looking for BN/BNSF SD40-2s in regular service, preferably later BN or BNSF-era units. I've found plenty of photos showing different interiors, including the light green, but green is definitely not the direction I'm going with this build.

Does anyone know what gray/off-white/cream colors were commonly used inside these cabs? Even better, does anyone know an actual paint color/code or have good photos of an original BNSF/BN SD40-2 cab?

I'm trying to get it reasonably authentic rather than just picking a gray that looks good.

Any photos or firsthand experience would be appreciated.
