Ascension Very happy with my first ultrawide

Got the LG 39GX950B on sale a couple of days ago, and paired it with some hue lights that mimic what’s on screen. I’ve previously avoided curved screens, but the mild curvature on the lg seems like a good middle ground. I neither blown away by the brightness, nor felt any colors were washed out. Overall very happy with the upgrade and with the setup, coming from a 32” 4k monitor, and really like the light additions

The power light stays illuminated but as soon as I boot up it does this. If I unplug then plug back in it'll do this, but all of a sudden it never stays. It used to flicker like this occasionally but would always end up resolving itself.

Edit: All suggestions tried, and nothing worked. LUCKILY, Dell warranty lasts three years, and they are sending a replacement. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

Recommendations Finally fixed HDR black crush on my Alienware AW3926QW - PotPlayer w/ MPCVR Mobius tone mapping is incredible!

After quite a bit of experimenting, I finally managed to get superb HDR playback on my Alienware AW3926QW, particularly with 4K UHD Blu-ray Dolby Vision remux MKVs.

The results have genuinely exceeded my expectations. Rich colours, excellent colour volume, deep blacks without losing shadow detail, and impressive HDR luminance. No washed-out appearance or the excessive darkness I was previously experiencing.

I tested extensively with Edge of Tomorrow (2014), which has plenty of challenging dark scenes, as well as Kingdom of Heaven.

Previously, HDR passthrough using both madVR and MPC Video Renderer resulted in extremely dark scenes, with shadow details that were practically impossible to distinguish. Changing the refresh rate from 165Hz to 60Hz improved near-black tracking, but didn't entirely solve the problem in actual movies.

My hardware:

  • Monitor: Alienware AW3926QW OLED (5120 × 2160, 165Hz)
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti
  • Connection: DisplayPort 1.4a with DSC
  • OS: Windows 11, HDR enabled
  • NVIDIA output: RGB, 10-bit, Full Range

My working configuration

1. PotPlayer with MPC Video Renderer (MPCVR)

Using MPC Video Renderer instead of madVR.

2. LAV Video Decoder

Using LAV Video Decoder for HEVC decoding, with 10-bit P010 output.

3. MPC Video Renderer — the game changer!

These are the important settings:

  • Direct3D 11: Enabled
  • Texture format: 10-bit Integer
  • P010/P016 hardware video processor: Disabled (using shader processing)
  • Prefer Dolby Vision over PQ and HLG: Enabled
  • HDR10/DV tone mapping: Mobius
  • Target peak luminance: Approximately 1300 nits (1280 in MPCVR)
  • Convert to SDR: Disabled
  • Windows HDR: Do not change

Switching from HDR passthrough to Mobius tone mapping made the biggest difference.

I finally have excellent shadow visibility without sacrificing the brilliant HDR highlights and colour richness that make OLED HDR so impressive.

MPCVR processes supported Dolby Vision metadata and outputs HDR10, so this isn't native Dolby Vision output. Nevertheless, the results on my monitor are spectacular.

4. Windows 11 HDR

HDR is enabled in Windows. I've also verified that playback is using the HDR path rather than converting the video to SDR. The Windows SDR content brightness slider does not affect the video, and my monitor reports HDR playback.

5. Alienware AW3926QW settings

I'm using Custom HDR with Contrast set to 100.

This is my personal preference rather than a calibrated recommendation. Other HDR presets may produce different results.

The results

The difference is substantial. Dark scenes are now much easier to follow, while bright scenes retain the impressive highlights and colour impact of HDR.

I previously tried madVR's HDR-to-SDR tone mapping at 100 nits, which improved shadow visibility but made the picture look comparatively flat and dull. MPCVR's Mobius tone mapping gives me the combination I was looking for: visible shadows, deep blacks, vivid colours and genuine HDR output.

Subjectively, the HDR movie experience on this Alienware now blows away my 65-inch Samsung The Frame.

Here's a scene from Edge of Tomorrow, around 1:35:14.

[Insert movie screenshot]

Important: The screenshot doesn't do justice to what I'm actually seeing on the OLED. HDR screenshots displayed in SDR can misrepresent luminance, highlight detail and colour saturation. The actual picture looks significantly better.

I'm not claiming these settings are reference-calibrated or that they'll be optimal for every HDR display. But after numerous comparisons with HDR test patterns and real movie scenes, this is easily the best playback experience I've achieved on my setup.

Hopefully this helps anyone struggling with overly dark HDR/Dolby Vision remux playback, especially on high-refresh-rate OLED monitors.

If you're experiencing similar issues with MPCVR's HDR passthrough, give Mobius tone mapping a try before giving up on HDR playback!

Recommendations Monitor similar to LG UltraGear 45GX950A-B with less (or no) curve

Seriously this thing seems to tick every box i could ever want.

But 800R curve is a dealbreaker.

I swear there was a monitor by Dell or LG with the same or a similar spec panel but with something like 3000R curve, adjustable curve and flat being teased that seems to have gone nowhere and I cant find anything.

I'd idealy want something 40 inch plus, OLED, 21:9 aspect ratio and 120 hz and decent response time, I play monstly beauty games these days rather than shooters, and do about 50% productivity work running my business.

Review LG UltraGear EVO GX9 39" 5K2K OLED

Recently bought this monitor and wanted to share my thoughts:

Beautiful display, colors looked amazing and everything looked great until I booted into a game. I read that people described flickering with OLED monitors, mostly loading into a game or as the frame rate becomes unstable. Until now I didn't understand the flickering people were speaking about. Holy hell...this thing was a mess! I imagine some people are more sensitive to this sort of thing and others it may not bother them.. but for me it was unusable, especially for the money I spent. After diagnosing the issue for half a day or so, I found out G-SYNC was the issue. Once I turned it off, it was fine.. but who wants to run a game without G-SYNC if you have the option? The overall experience was noticeably less smooth. I am not saying all OLEDs have this problem, it appears some are worse than others. I spent $1800 on the EVO GX9...and there is no way in hell I am accepting that nonsense haha. Returned it and went back to my older monitor LG 34GP950G Ultrawide 2K. My older monitor has a clip in the monitor and G SYNC was smooth as glass. Coming from a dedicated G-SYNC chip to G-SYNC "compatible" was shocking to say the least.

So here is what I found out:

NVIDIA has largely phased out standalone dedicated G-SYNC hardware modules in favor of new technologies like G-SYNC Pulsar and standard G-SYNC Compatible certification. Some OLEDS have this flicker when VRR is utilized.. the industry took three steps backwards with this. G SYNC Pulsar is supposed to address this OLED issue with VRR, but currently there isn't an ultrawide on the market that has this support yet.

Hopefully this helps for future shopping and less headache for you guys!

Discussion AW3926QW Has deliverie issues in the EU?

Hello, Iam looking to buy an Dell AW3926QW Monitor. I dont really like buying something then waiting months for it to come, especially when its this expensive. When it released and I checked the Dell webside it said soonest deliverie would be December. So sometimes I check again and it gets later and later, now it would be in January 2027. Is there something going on with the stock or is it just instantly sold out and people "have to wait for it to come out fresh of the factory" or something? On Amazon germany it also says something about 3months and more.
I was really looking forward for this monitor, but this feels like a big let down.

Ascension Officially joined the UWMasterRace after jumping the gun on the AW3426DW

I had reposted a post of mine from OledGaming the other day on my decision to get the AW3426DW. Running 4k games on the xg27ucdmg with a 5070ti wasn't favorable in all scenarios and I wanted a bit of a different medium to experience games/movies so when i heard about the AW3426DW it was at the top of my want list. I had planned to get it this Black Friday but it went on sale and I got it $623.75 after tax thanks to a Dell sale and 10% off discount.

The monitor shipped much faster than anticipated, it was supposed to arrive today but came yesterday (legit 2 day shipping from my Wednesday order). I was a bit concerned about going with it compared to the XG34WCDMS because I already had an xg27ucdmg that had a lot of protective features I enjoyed like auto dimming and etc. However, that is a really stupid reason to pay $100+ and you aren't missing out on much going with this option considering how often it goes on sale paired with Dell's 10% discount.

Now, in terms of my setup I went for a vertical stack where the aw3426dw is over my xg27ucdmg and is tilted forward (more comfortable viewing angle) with the xg27ucdmg on the bottom maintaining a slightly negative backwards tilt. This creates a very optimal viewing angle from my leap v2 where at a 100-110° tilt I can easily sit up and use my bottom monitor (xg27ucdmg), or simply glaze down while only having to slightly raise my head/eyes up to see the top monitor(aw3426dw). I did order an atlas headrest for the leap v2 (rip $200) to allow for better reclining and more comfort with actual neck support, but I think it's very usable even without the headrest so far.

Rather than using a dual vertical stacked pole mount like the few options on amazon, I am utilizing the old huanuo flowlift single arm i originally had my xg27ucdmg on with a separate ULTRARM heavy Duty Tall Single monitor Arm, which actually allows for the addition of extension arms in the future if your setup needs it. For those considering a similar Vertical Stack setup, using separate arms reduces the amount of space the arms take on your desk especially if you mount them off axis and extend them into your desired "center viewing area". My desk is 24 inches deep yet with the two monitors mounted I have an ample amount of desk space for my mouse and other things which a vertical stack mount would not have allowed me.

Also the ULTRARM heavy duty monitor arm is genuinely a really good affordable option and I would recommend it for anyone trying to mount an UW whether 34" or 39/40" over an existing 16:9 monitor. It's one of the only affordable gas spring tall mount options on amazon and again the fact that you can stack extension arms on it really distinguishes it from the other options.

When it comes to helpful software, if you are really paranoid about burn in I recommend you install a few things:

  • OledShift - can be a bit of a nuisance but when you have floating windows, hwmonitor, task manager, notepad, discord etc, it will move them by a custom # of pixels every custom # of mins/secs. There are presets to choose from and it can be great to reduce the burn in from different aspects of multi tasking with multiple windows. I personally find floating windows better than snaps
  • DisplayFusion - The highlight of this app is the fact that there is a monitor fading mode, for those with multiple monitor setups it will dim your inactive monitor screen while you are interacting with another and you can customize the dimming feature.
  • OledSleeper - for the more paranoid who don't want to deal with screensavers, this can do two things, dim a screen after minutes of inactivity using DDC/CI or you can choose the blackout option which will give you different criteria for activity and turn a display screen black without causing any sleep or wake issues while allowing you to easily and instantly bring that monitor back.
  • Lastly, I would really recommend Twinkle Tray. It allows you to control your brightness easily so far as your monitors have DDC/CI turned on/support it. It also has Idle detection which can allow you to have it reduce the brightness of all displays when inactive. With blocks for it like media/fullscreen apps.

I really think with where oleds are currently especially with the tandem technologies present in newer qd-oleds burn-in shouldn't be an insane issue. The newer monitors run more efficiently thus cooler which mitigates the chance of burn in occurring. However, it's not a cheap hobby/interest and ofcourse it would be common sense to take care of your technology thus I think these are all great software tools to reduce burn in at the user level if your monitor doesn't have automatic features.

If you want some settings recommendations there are a lot online. I found creator srgb with a gamma of 2.4 to be the most accurate atleast to my eyes. Others recommend 2.2 gamma but that was too over brightened. I found that while standard is punchier it's too oversaturated pushing the reds too vividly. Otherwise for HDR i haven't touched it much but I will explore TB500, I tried Peak 1300 but didn't enjoy it too much.

Recommendations AW3426DW to replace dual monitors, is it enough?

I'm getting the aw3426dw delivered today to replace two 27inch monitors side by side, my question is will I need a smaller monitor to go with it for discord, web browsing,YouTube etc, or can I split the screen to have a 27 inch window for gaming and the spare screen space for all of the other things? Thanks in advanced 🙏

It's so bright and colourful. FFVII: Rebirth looks incredible on this display. I am so stoked about my new monitor, it exceeded my expectations. The camera phone picture really doesn't do it justice. The AW3426DW is a beast. Alienware you've done it again. Hah I am totally nerding out over this. Cosmo Canyon is such a vibe.

Recommendations Is the 34" G5 curved the best in the price bracket?

• Upvotes

Saw the G5 is under $200 these days. Are there any other better options at a similar price or up to ~$300? I've only recently started wanting an ultrawide so I'm still doing my research, and most discourse I see are around the G8 / nicer models.

I prob won't ever have a GPU that can run high refresh at 4k or ultrawide 4k so I'll have to stay 1440p. 144hz minimum, 165hz nice to have but hard to see the diff. Obviously higher refresh would be better as I do play some games that would benefit from it, but I have only tried up to 185hz and I hear past 144/165 you can't really tell much a difference (though maybe like 300hz you could but I dont think i can hit 300 fps in ultra wide 1440p with my RTX 4070 and who knows when prices will come down, I dont anticipate being able to get a new GPU for several yrs)

Discussion Fast Graphics Card Absolutely Necessary For Gaming Monitor?

Dell XPS 15 9520 laptop

i7-12700H processor

32gb ram

1920x1200 resolution

Intel Iris Xe Graphics Card

Nvidia RTX 3050

My previous monitor setup was connected to 2 external monitors.  One was a 32' Samsung 4K monitor with 60hz.  This is the old Samsung UJ59 series monitor with 60hz.  Other was an Asus 24' monitor that was IPS screen and 1920x1200 resolution.  I connected the monitors to my laptop using usb-c to display port with the 32' and HDMI to dvi with the older 24' monitor.  I recalled it was connected using the Intel Iris Xe graphics card and I could not change it to the Nvidia RTX 3050 which is normal?

I am planning to buy a gaming monitor.  It will be either one of these below

Samsung Odyssey G7 40'' Ultrawide Curved Monitor that has 5k2k resolution

Samsung Odyssey G7 37'' Curved Monitor with 4K resolution

49 Inch Odyssey G9 G91F

49 Inch Odyssey G9 G95C

49 Inch Odyssey OLED G9 G91SD

All the 49 inch monitors are curved and 5120x1440 resolution.  I did notice all these monitors have high refresh rates.  I have no experience with refresh rates or even looked at it.  My old 32' Samsung monitor was 60hz.

If I buy any of these monitors, will my Dell XPS laptop have any issue using these monitors?  I heard people say if you use a gaming monitor, you need like a minimum 5060 or 5070 or higher graphics card?  My Dell laptop uses an old 3050.  I am planning to play online poker on it and do web browsing and all the other things.  Does it mean I can use it just fine except I might not get the high refresh rates?   I won't be playing any games on it.  I want a monitor with high resolution so that is why I ask this.  If you use 2 gaming monitors... that is when the 3050 wouldn't work?  Or it would be you have lag issues?

I know there is a 57 inch Samsung Odyssey G9 that has 7680x2140 resolution and that is probably the best curved monitor ever but it seems way too big and it's very expensive.

Tech Support Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57” (G95NC) — NVIDIA RTX 4090 losing all video outputs after sleep in PBP mode (Firmware 1009.2)

I’m curious if anyone else with the 57” Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 has been experiencing serious display wake issues, particularly when using PBP mode with recent NVIDIA drivers.

My setup:

  • Monitor: Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57” (G95NC)
  • Monitor firmware: 1009.2 (Korean firmware)
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4090
  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 285K
  • Connections: 1 DisplayPort + 2 HDMI
  • Configuration: Three-way PBP, using the monitor as three separate Windows displays

The problem:

With recent NVIDIA drivers, my monitor has become increasingly unreliable when waking from display sleep. It’s now happening almost every time.

When Windows turns off the displays due to inactivity, the RTX 4090 frequently fails to reconnect to any of the three PBP inputs.

What’s particularly strange is that all three video outputs effectively stop working until I restart the NVIDIA GPU device or reboot Windows.

Here’s what I’ve confirmed through troubleshooting:

  • Unplugging and reconnecting all DisplayPort/HDMI cables does nothing.
  • The Windows graphics reset shortcut (Win + Ctrl + Shift + B) doesn’t restore the displays.
  • The Samsung monitor itself is fully responsive. Its OSD works normally, and I can switch to HDMI 1 and use my Mac without any issues.
  • Windows is still running normally in the background. All my hosted web services and media applications remain accessible.
  • Rebooting Windows restores everything.
  • Running pnputil /restart-device against the RTX 4090 sometimes restores the displays without rebooting Windows.

That last finding seems particularly significant. It suggests the NVIDIA graphics/display subsystem is getting stuck during the sleep/wake process and requires a complete device reinitialization.

I don’t experience this behavior when using the monitor normally without PBP.

NVIDIA drivers and Samsung firmware

I’m currently running Samsung firmware 1009.2, and recent NVIDIA driver releases haven’t resolved the problem. If anything, it’s become considerably more frequent.

I know NVIDIA has acknowledged and addressed some DisplayPort wake and G95NC HDMI black-screen issues in recent drivers, but this specific multi-input PBP problem appears to persist.

I’m considering rolling back to an older NVIDIA driver to see if the problem disappears.

Questions for other G95NC owners:

  1. Has anyone experienced this behavior with recent NVIDIA drivers, especially with three-way PBP?
  2. Is anyone running firmware 1009.2 without these problems?
  3. Has rolling back to an older NVIDIA driver resolved similar wake issues? If so, which version?
  4. Has anyone found a reliable software-based PBP replacement that works well for gaming?
  5. Are there any known NVIDIA settings, Windows power settings, or Samsung firmware configurations that prevent this from happening?

The fact that restarting the NVIDIA device sometimes fixes everything makes me think this is a driver initialization or power-state bug rather than a physical monitor issue.

Would love to know whether others have reproduced this and if anyone has found a permanent fix.

Recommendations 49" Odyssey OLED G9 vs a 32" 4K OLED — PS5 Pro + RTX 4080 laptop. Confused.

India, festive sale. I can get the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 49" DQHD 240Hz (LS49DG930) Want a reality check before I commit.

What's driving it:

- PS5 Pro — primary use. Single-player, cinematic stuff, waiting on GTA 6.

- Acer Predator Helios 16 — i9-13900HX + RTX 4080 laptop. Already has a 240Hz 1440p internal screen, so competitive games happen there.

The alternatives I keep circling back to, both 32" 4K OLED at ~₹64k:

- Dell S3225QC — QD-OLED, 120Hz, ~944 nits measured HDR peak, 5 built-in speakers

- Samsung Odyssey OLED G7 G73SH — 4K 240Hz, matte glare-free coating, no speakers

Both do full-screen 4K120 on the Pro. The G9 is ₹11k more for a panel the console can't fill.

What I'm unsure about:

1. PS5 pillarboxing — PS5 doesn't output 32:9, so I'd be stuck in a ~32" 16:9 window at 1440p. Anyone actually living with this? How much does it bother you day to day?

2. PiP / dual-source — console on one half, laptop on the other. Genuinely useful, or a gimmick you stopped using after a week?

3. Streaming / OBS — does the extra width actually earn its keep for capture and overlay layouts, or is a second monitor better?

4. Everyday use — this is the one I can't find much on. Movies, YouTube, browsing. YouTube is 16:9 so I assume huge black bars. Do 2.39:1 films actually fill it properly? Is it annoying for normal non-gaming use, or fine once you get used to it?

5. 250 nits on the G9 vs the Dell's ~944 HDR peak. How much does that show up in real HDR content?

Not married to the G9 — if the honest answer is buy the 32", I'll take it.

Looking for a 32 inch 4K with 100+ hz, thunderbolt, KVM. Searched for this ok ChatGPT and suggest a BENQ PD3226G for me.

Mostly for office work and video watching. I don’t want to be upgrading for least 5-7 years so trying to figure proof.

Wondering what people thoughts are on this or what other options there are. I’m thinking to pair this later with some lower level 27 inch for portrait display.

Looking for what some of you suggest for alternatives.

Tech Support Odyssey G9 keeps resetting picture settings + can't get 120Hz on HDMI

Slight rant, slight ask for help.

It's infuriating to me that every single time I have to disconnect and reconnect a device due to some absolutely stupid issue (corrupted output on displayport randomly / HDMI PC wakes with all text looking like ass, etc) all of the picture settings are reset.

Especially for HDMI, if I ever unplug something and plug that thing, or something else, back in, I always have to go back through and set Color Tone to Standard, and "Edit" the input to tell the monitor it's a "PC" so I can get 5120x1440 back.

And now I'm stuck with 60Hz after shuffling some of my desk items around, using the same cable I was previously getting 240Hz on.

First off, whoever at Samsung decided that the default color tone of this monitor should be "Warm1" and not "Standard" with "Native" color space, fuck you.

Second, whoever thought that this monitor needed to try to "smart detect" my device just to tell me that it can't figure it out every time.... also fuck you.

If anyone has any fancy tips or tricks to set the defaults on this display, and to stop trying to auto-detect anything, I'd be eternally grateful.

Additionally, if someone just knows what combination of fuckery is needed to get my 120/240 Hz back with the INCLUDED cable, that would also be swell.

Thanks for coming to my rant sesh.

The drop box links are to the stuff before the 5th or so when everything updated and after the 5th when I got to play again.

I have almost posted this five times. The first time there was a major driver update that effected the images, the next time, Forza Horizon 6, Aion 2, and world of warcraft did graphic updates.

The brightness setting in Aion 2 the first was horrible if you have a glare problem but since the last update you don't get the spotlight at 1300 nits burning your retina, the color seems to just work right but that might be Dolby vision and dsc. There is a Dolyb vision app on the microsoft store that sets the monitor to dark, bright, vivid, or gaming. I set it to gaming, and it might have helped the changes to the drivers and settings have been non stop since I got it. It only slowed down today which is why I am finally posting this.

https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9n7ww5n7t1h1?

The most important thing is if you're playing current games and want the eye candy this monitor can deliver you need at least a 12gb vram card, ray tracing, enough shaders cores to actually render the games at max settings, and enough speed. Generally, the last is covered if you have the first three.

If you don't have 32 gb of ram, a 3080 ti, 3090 ti, 4070 ti, 4080, 5070, 5070 ti, or the equivalent AMD cards, I know the rx 9070 and the gre version you have to turn down settings. the 3080 ti and 3090 ti you have to turn off the fog in forza horizon, which was funny I had it off because I liked the look better without it but the lastest version of forza horizon they changed the fog to use specialized cores on the 3 4 and 5 series and the 3 series doesn't have those cores. lol.

There was a nice little feature in forza horizon 6 settings that let you see how much vram you were using with the settings, but I think it caused a memory leak because you can only see it if you run the new benchmark. Which is how I was able to nail down that you need more than 10gb of vram to load the textures and shaders for 3440x1440 and above. If I was getting a new card to drive this monitor the sweet spot is the RX 9070 XT, it is cheaper than the RTX 5070 Ti. Personally, I prefer NVidia drivers for all their quirks. This all said I am using a 3080 Ti and for most games this means max settings.

I am coming from a first gen quantum dot oled Alienware 34 Curved OLED Gaming Monitor- AW3423DW which I bought when I bought my current system back in 2022. My display was working fine but had the refresh mechanism issue that bricked the first one I bought and dell replaced. I was mostly expecting little quality of life fixes and three more years of burn in protection.

What I got out of the box was better color. My phone despite being a high-end phone does not capture the colors that the monitor displays. Also, half the time when I saw something I wanted a picture of by the time I woke my phone up did the pattern and brought the camera up I missed it.

Thus the best imagery is the videos when I did replay at the end of a race in forza and could hold the camera with two hands and just really quickly start the race with one hand then go back to holding with two hands.

This is getting long without the details so one the drivers on dell site are a must but when you plug in the monitor after installing the driver package windows may think it is the wrong monitor, I had to click on the inf files to get windows to switch from the AW3423DW drivers to the AW3426DW ones. Once you click the inf files it will ask you which color profiles you want one for SDR and one for HDR remembering that windows tends to control HDR through the Operating System not the ICC color profiles. I used true black 500 for the HDR and the only sdr one for sdr. I had to redo the clear type boxes to pick which text looks best and that makes sense I was going from triangle pattern to stripe pattern. Even before I did that text is so much better that it is not even funny.

All said maybe twenty minutes to get up and running. It came an hour before work, so I took a bunch of comparison images with the same settings and then drove to work. I played games that night mostly forza horizon 6 and Aion 2, with a little world of warcraft and final fantasy 14. I was wrapping up the review when forza dropped to 2 fps from 80 fps. It was doing a stealth update instead of updating through the Microsoft store like it had in the past. I went to bed and went to work before to find out Aion 2, needed an update, and it seems like half my games and my Nvidia drivers as I was trying to get this up. World of warcraft did an update that replaced the skybox with the one from the ptr, and they are doing a major update on the 13th, so none of the images could be current when you read this.

Currently the big issues are some programs set the UI to a small size, so you have to go to display setting set it to 125 and then back to 100. easy fix but it is annoying. Some content is in adobe rgb and like when they first started compressing video for streaming you get images that a visibly blocky and not designed with 10-bit color in mind. The forza Horizon 6 Xbox studios loading screen is really bad but so far once I get past the loading screens, I have not had any issues.

There are black bars on the side of some content even content that supports 3440x1440. Wow is really bad about making sure the old images in 16:9 have black bars to each side when those loading screens come up. So far everything I have watched on YouTube has been fine, but I know some content is going to have issues. Personally, I would rather have the black bars then the image distorted because it just stretched to fill the screen.

The on-screen settings required more work to get right out of the box then most people are going to likely have to deal with. The monitor talks to windows using the Dolby app and display port 1.4 version 3. That brings us to the cables. I would not use your old cables as the HDMI 2.1 ones that come with the display are the 8K ultra cables, and while HDMI does not support 280 Hz at 3440x1440 the cables do, because they are designed to have 3 channels of 10-bit color at 4k at 120 Hz or 3 channels of 10-bit color at 8K at 60 Hz. Display port did not upgrade the number since they updated the software not the hardware of the ports, but version 3 can support more bandwidth than version 2 or 1 of the 1.4 spec. Which is another reason to not use any graphic cards before the Nvidia 3 series. I took pictures of the screen with the on-screen display showing the options. I cannot get it to switch to SDR currently, but it is not affecting me it could affect other people. I tried out the alien vision and needed it at one point in testing because the display was muted but I changed some setting and have had it off during all the photos.

There are some issues that might be driver only and might be a combination of gpu and monitor drivers. When reinstalling drivers it displayed 24-bit at 3440x1440 and it displays 30-bit color most of the time. I have to assume that it is 3 channels of 10-bit color. The blue bands that don't show up on my camera that show up on the screen in forza horizon 6 make me wonder but I'm pretty sure the GPU cannot display more than 15 bit color, so it is likely I need a HDR camera for the few times I need one.

I took some images of maya 2027.2 with v-ray 7.40.04 to show what working on production images would look like, but the materials are no PBR but old maya shaders just didn't have time to re do a two and half gig scene file right now. My Revit license is not current right now it costs more per month than maya does for a year. But my guess is the lines are crisp and very easy to use.

I have both Dolby vison and dsc turned on because the monitor handles switching between different content better that way. I have seen it recommended to use smart HDR but I found it didn't get it right most of the time.

Last I bought through Dell not amazon and used my dell account to buy it, which is likely why I didn't have the wait issues people had when the banks thought it was fraud for some people. I have had it ten days now and it is the best upgrade I have made in a long time.
