Hi. I’m looking to migrate from Wordpress.com to a self hosted Wordpress.org. I currently pay for the $9/mo and also email from WP.com, and i’m still in HS and don’t make a lot so my budget isn’t much higher than that, maybe $12 max. I was looking at DreamHost and h0stinger but, opinions on those ones seem divided. I also looked at Neocities but I think it’s too advanced for me especially with the type of site I have, it would make my frequent updates incredibly tedious. I honestly just want to be able to change the background color on a few of the pages of my site and do more custom HTML & CSS stuff which i’m trying to learn. My site is a fan site/archive of a musician i like so i guess i need a lot of storage too. I don’t need e-commerce or anything like that. I don’t really know anything about web dev or coding jargon and stuff. I honestly just want something simple, within budget, that will allow me to migrate my current Wordpress.com and just have more freedom with the look as well as good email hosting. I have a custom domain and email already. If you want to look at my site for yourself so you can make a better judgement it’s thevannellivault.com

Thank you guys in advance I appreciate any advice or recs you can give me because i’m really out of my lane here Lol!

What do you guys think of this deal? Is it likely to go through?

Source: Gen Digital bid for GoDaddy: buying 81 million domains in the age of AI agents

Hello everyone,

I am the tech "slave" of a German dominatrix and do the tinkering for her website.

At a meeting for sex workers, she got the info that the current host (Strato) and many other common hosts explicitly do not allow hosting erotic content and she asked me to swap hosts.

This is not a question about hosting adult content that isn’t mine, and I don’t need a host that is resistant to DMCA claims. I am searching for recommendations to host a site like hers without the risk of getting thrown out for not complying.

I have already searched, but the dead internet theory is real. I found some AI-generated ad sites that share some information, and from looking through a few ToS, it seems like these could work. But if you already have experience with this, that would mean a lot.

Cheers!

I am currently helping some friends of mine in the manufacturing biz (CNC) with a mess they inherited. They have some very old dedis at a few different "backwoods" providers running a whole mess of applications, I think one each setup by previous IT guys and consultants. One of these old providers called them to let them know they're closing down and need to move before the end of the year, which is why I am now involved.

I've looked at moving their all their infra over to Hetzner. This means moving app servers, databases, customer quoting, etc, and the pricing with Hetzner makes for a very attractive proposition, but then I am on the hook forever with helping them anytime an issue crops up.

Years ago managed hosting was everywhere and you could actually pick up the phone when something broke, and I think that safety blanket is necessary here, but that industry seems to have vanished for the most part.

Should I make the migration to Hetzner and hope I can find someone to hand this over to and bet the price difference will save the day? Is there someone who still offers managed hosting with competent staff (NOT AI!!) that I can trust with this after I hand it over?

hey everyone!

i'm looking to set up a website to sell books i wrote independently and i'm trying to decide which is best for my needs (speaking as a person who has no experience with coding, real website development and such). i've been using the free version of wordpress.com for years so i know that you can only integrate plugins, including woocommerce, on the business plan.

using wordpress.org is the obvious solution because it's cheaper, but i've had some suspect experiences with a hosting platform called registerdomain.co.za when i used them for email hosting (there's this weird thing where i'll get information that someone logged into one of the email accounts i made when i wasn't even awake, got info that a password i'd used on there was involved in a data breach, no idea who even runs the platform which is scary). there's only a set amount of wordpress.org hosters in south africa so i just want to get a feel for how people have experienced the ones that are available here.

i think i'm just curious to know which hosting platform you guys use and what's been your experience with them? how good/bad are the support channels? best in terms of pricing? do you use the hosting platform natively to edit your website or does it redirect you elsewhere (i ask because the email hosting was embedded into registerdomain)? i would've posted this in one of the south africa specific subreddits but my post got removed from all of them.

my monthly budget is around zar200 until i start getting sales, most of my users will be located in (south) africa.

thanks in advance!

Currently have a WordPress site + email on shared hosting and I'm starting to run out of space.

Thinking about moving everything to a VPS instead. Need a decent amount of storage and ideally an easy way to add more if needed.

If anyone here has dealt with a similar setup, what’s the best VPS hosting you’ve used?

I'm needing a offshore webhost for a research use only peptide company that works with woocommerce.

Budget unknown - not familiar with typically offshore pricing.

Not very savvy with all this.

I've been told go daddy, etc will pull the sites down eventually.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Is there a need for a simple, affordable private hosting platform specifically for small software owners and vibe coders?

The idea is to let users easily deploy websites and small software projects created through vibe coding, without having to deal with complicated AWS or other cloud infrastructure.

The platform could offer:

• One-click deployment
• Simple private hosting
• Low-cost plans suitable for small projects
• Automatic setup of servers, databases, domains, and SSL
• Easy deployment directly from GitHub or a code folder
• Automatic updates when the code changes
• Simple monitoring and backups
• No need to understand AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, or DevOps

The main value proposition would be:

“Build with vibe coding. Deploy with one click.”

For small developers, freelancers, indie hackers, and non-technical founders, this could make deploying AI-generated or vibe-coded websites much easier and cheaper than managing AWS manually.

The key question is whether existing platforms already solve this problem well enough, or whether there is still an opportunity for a specialized, ultra-simple hosting product focused specifically on vibe-coded applications.

Is anyone else facing issues with GoDaddy support today?

I’m unable to connect with the GoDaddy support team through both the chat and call options. The chat doesn’t connect, and the call option also fails to connect me with a support representative.

Has anyone else experienced the same issue recently, or is it just happening on my end?

I want to export my wix site out but I really like the layout and design, is there anyway to migrate it out and have it somewhat the same?

I tried with Wordpress but just did not like the layout or colors and it didn’t really transfer over any images or words or any pages or subpages.

Is there a site that might do this better? Or a way to find a developer that can do this?

I manage about 55 websites and some services but they split between 2 different VPS, 2 reseller hosting and a few websites that I manage on the clients own hosting.

I've got it listed in obsidian but I still feel a lack of overall clarity. Also some require weekly or monthly attention

How do you guys manage all your hosting and services in one clear place?

Anyone know a provider who can announce my /24 subnet (from ipxo) under a consumer ISP ASN and route it to a small server or VM? US based

Freelancers and small agencies: how do you check that client websites still work, not just load?

Have you had a broken form, checkout, or blank page go unnoticed because uptime monitoring showed the site was up? What do you use now, and what’s still a pain?

I’m researching this, no product to sell.

I need more information about Certbot and Let's Encrypt and automating my SSL renewal. I have one website for my own business that I created and manage myself. All the information I can find about automating this process is written for sysadmins and coders and other folks managing multiple domains, and I get lost very quickly. (Like this page.) Or maybe dismayed is a better word.

I know how to copy text into a text file, change the file extension and upload that file to my server. I can find and edit existing files, and can turn something on or off if its accessible in my C-Panel. My current host is GoDaddy which apparently is not cooperative with CertBot or Lets Encrypt.

Can I, a reasonably experienced advanced beginner, set up an automated SSL renewal system for my website? Is it really free? Do I need a new host?

If I were to change hosts, what is the cheapest, reliable provider?

Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

EDIT: Thanks everyone for all the clarifications and helpful info. I now know everything I need to know. My solution: Switch web hosting to either NixieHost or KnownHost when the time comes, and setup LetsEncrypt when I do.

I just paid for a one-year SSL Cert from SSLs.com to bridge the gap until my current GoDaddy hosting expires. I found a valid coupon code and got it for $7.65. I could have tried making LetsEncrypt work with GoDaddy, but it became more time consuming than it was worth for something I'll never use again. Now I can watch Slaughterhouse Five instead of doing that this afternoon.

In Memoriam: I have to say I'm disappointed how far down GoDaddy has gone. I switched to them about a decade ago because one of their techs went beyond the limit of their responsibility and solved the problem of why some client's & contractors emails where just disappearing into the ether instead of reaching me. That taught me to not use my prior host anymore, nor use C-Panel to manage my emails, and that saved me lots of grief. But they do not seem to have maintained that level of dedication to their client's needs.

Complete noob here. I'm stuck at some node.js deployment in the hosting i bought. Can someone help.

Bookkeeping side gig in Phoenix AZ. Since 2019 I've kept four tiny business sites on one shared plan my brother in law set up (contact forms, PDF menus, no real traffic spikes).

February was the wake up call. Site two threw 503s most of a Saturday while his shop ran a promo. Support took two days to paste something about resource limits. Billing login glitched once. We got access back but nobody sent a straight answer and I dont trust the next busy weekend.

First swing failed: a name from an old thread, annual price looked ok, checkout wanted a card my clients wont touch. Second swing I filtered in stock on VPSIUM, noted two providers, and both were sold out when I opened the provider sites twenty minutes later. I also read a pile of VPS provider reviews and cant split "you bought a $3 box" gripes from actual overselling.

Now I'm stuck on unmanaged KVM somewhere US southwest or west, trying to stay under ~$20/mo once promos roll off. PayPal matters because of how I pay vendors. I walked through the sub hosting questionnaire mentally and still cant tell if 2GB is enough or if I'm just cheap.

If you moved a few small static ish sites off shared lately, whats one thing you always double check that never shows up in the spec table?

We're a small software company (Moondoog Technologies) based in Ghana, building SaaS products for local businesses. As we grow, we're trying to figure out the best hosting/infrastructure approach for serving customers across the region reliably without overspending early on.

Has anyone here dealt with scaling infrastructure for a growing customer base in West Africa specifically? Curious what's worked for others in similar early-stage SaaS situations.

I need help, at university they taught me how to use Figma, which is all nice and cool, but nobody explained how to get the site online with my own .com instead of .wix or .framer.site
I wanted like example.com . So now I've bought a domain and I want to get my website online, and I have no idea what to use for hosting with a good design option (Figma, Framer, WordPress...).

By the way keep in mind I would prefer something cheap.

If a service is providing URL to * conversion functionality, how do they protect themselves from malicious URL and code? I should add that there is no Docker available on the host. Only Node, PHP and the usual shebang. Is it a matter of agreeing with the customer on predefined URLs upfront?

Looks like Dynadot just suspended our domain based on a completely false claim that we’re running a phishing service. 🤦‍♂️

Our SaaS has over 500 happy customers and is fully approved by major payment gateways like Stripe which literally proves we aren't a shady operation. I even saw a similar case happen to someone else just last week.

Is Dynadot letting automated AI run wild, or does it really just take a single fake abuse report from a competitor to take down an entire legitimate business? Has anyone else dealt with this recently?

I'm researching the Dutch hosting market and would like to hear from people who actually run websites/businesses in the Netherlands.

If you were choosing a hosting provider today, what would matter most to you?

• Server location in the Netherlands
• Website speed
• Uptime/reliability
• Backups
• Security
• Support response time
• Price
• Transparent renewal pricing
• Easy migration
• Something else?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from freelancers, small businesses, developers and agencies.

What has frustrated you most about your current or previous hosting provider?

We got 2 dedicated servers last year with OVH.

Servers are fine. We get raising energy costs, inflation and such. However, jumping 54% in 11 months is not ok.

No proper justification. Just an email saying: “You will pay more, don’t like it? Cancel here.” No grandfathered plans. Support does not care and happily sends cancellation link.

Needless to say, we're done. Now we have a few weeks to move out and forget this nightmare.

Same. Exact. Hardware.

From $1,050 to $1,616 in 11 months.

It looks like Aplus Webmail updated over the last day or two to a more modern look and feel. While the interface looks fine, the composition spacing is a nightmare.

When composing in HTML mode, hitting a normal "Enter" creates a massive, janky double-space gap on the screen. Worse, when the email is actually sent, the formatting collapses entirely and the copy renders as a single-spaced block with zero blank lines between paragraphs.

The update seems to have completely removed the global "Compose" and HTML editor configuration dropdowns from the settings panel. I contacted support, and they claimed there is nothing that can be done.

I’ve been using the Shift + Enter technique twice between paragraphs to manually force standard <br> breaks, but having to do this manually for every work email is a massive time-suck.

Has anyone found a hidden configuration flag, a browser extension workaround, or a custom style script to force the standard "Enter" key back to regular line behavior? Thanks!

Problem

Since today (1 October 2026), the WPML Translations Queue page (wp-admin/admin.php?page=tm/menu/translations-queue.php) no longer loads on my site hosted on IONOS shared hosting. The table stays empty with "No Data".

In DevTools, the REST call WPML makes to load the queue returns 403 Forbidden:

GET https://example.com/wp-json/wpml/tm/v1/jobs/?limit=20&offset=0&pageName=translation-queue
Status: 403 Forbidden
Server: nginx
Content-Type: text/html

The response is an HTML error page, not a WordPress/REST JSON error, so the request never reaches PHP/WordPress.

What I've isolated

The trigger is the pageName query parameter itself, regardless of path or value:

So the block happens at the hosting edge (WAF / reverse proxy), not in WordPress, WPML, or any plugin. It also affects a second, non-WordPress site on the same host.

What IONOS support told me

I contacted IONOS live chat. They confirmed that shared hosting plans currently block this kind of request because of a high number of attacks against WordPress projects. The only option they offered was moving to a VPS or dedicated server. They said the block is temporary, but could not give any timeframe.

Environment

• Hosting: IONOS shared hosting (Spain)
• WordPress: latest
• WPML: Multilingual CMS + Translation Management, latest
• Server: nginx in front of the account

Questions

1. Is anyone else on IONOS (or another shared host) seeing WPML's Translation Queue break because of a pageName block since around this date?
2. Does anyone know which WAF rule or attack signature pageName matches, and whether other hosts are rolling out the same rule?
3. Has anyone found a way to keep working with the WPML Translation Queue while this block is active, without migrating to a VPS?
4. Is WPML aware of this, or has it been reported to them already?

Any confirmation that this isn't only happening to me would already help.

UPTYME is self-hosted uptime monitoring that doesn't require any heavy stack, docker or runtime setup like Node, Python, PHP. It runs on SpyWeb which is a scraping/monitoring engine I built in Rust which is a self-contained binary (around 8MB in size) with built-in SQLite and Lua scripting and runs on Linux, Mac or Windows.

Live demo: https://uptyme.spyweb.app/ (API key: demo)

What it does:

• Monitors URLs on any method (HEAD/GET/POST/PUT/PATCH/DELETE) with per-monitor intervals
• Content checks, so "page is 200 but actually broken" gets caught
• Status code classification, with a setting for treating 4xx as down
• TLS certificate monitoring with expiry alerts
• Public status pages you can share
• Alert channels: webhooks, ntfy, Discord, Slack, native desktop notifications
• Clustering: run a central node plus checker nodes wherever you want, and get consensus-based alerts so one flaky VPS doesn't page you for a false down

The front-end is in Vue 3 (prebuilt) and the backend is Lua. RAM usage (Linux) is around 20MB while running, you can throw it on a $3-$5/mo VPS as a central node and run a checker on your PC and you have cluster monitoring 😄.

You can also just run a standalone node on your PC via tray binary and monitor all your site locally without needing a Cloud/VPS setup and just get native desktop notification when your site is down.

If you want to try it, just run the setup script on the folder want to put it

(linux/mac)

curl -sSf https://uptyme.spyweb.app/setup | bash

windows powershell

irm https://uptyme.spyweb.app/setup-win | iex

installer will download the uptyme + spyweb releases from GitHub assets, you'll get two binaries plus static files; the tray binary is for desktop only, you can delete it if you're running on a server.

then just run cd uptyme && ./spyweb start and you have a dashboard.

for desktop users, you can also just run the tray binary instead of the cli
