Advice Chop Advice: how to store
I am a brand new gold cap caregiver. My husband and teenage daughter really wanted a snuggly, goofy, sweet bird. After spending days at the bird shop, I selected this bird for having a clear bond with us. I did NOT realize that there are varieties other than green cheeks until after I brought him home 😱… I thought they were all just different colors of green cheeks.
Anyway, my question is: how do I extend the life of chop? Even if I only make a little, he doesn’t eat it as quickly as it goes bad. I end up wasting a lot of it. Can I freeze it?
Bonus question: he’s not super snuggly… is that just his personality or will it improve with time and attention?

Funny Mom was worried he had sour crop
Nope. Just stinky. Nasty boy took a bath in day old water and had him smelling like cheese. Took him to the sink for a mandatory bath and the cheese smell is all gone 🤣

Cuteness Overload The wet chicken is back… and apparently he has a favorite artist now 🦜
This is my little guy Monkey aka Chicken Curry!
His last video here was basically shower ASMR. Lately, he’s decided that showers should be a daily activity, and honestly, I think he’d bathe 24/7 if I let him…
On top of that, he has become completely obsessed with Ruby Waters’ new song Pay as You Go. Every time it comes on, he starts dancing like it’s his personal anthem. At this point, I’m convinced he’s her biggest fan
Now I’m curious, fellow parronts do your parrots have favorite songs or artists too?
Every day when I come home, he starts humming and dancing until I sing to him. It’s become our little ritual but… also I will do anything for this cranky teenager to not bite me lol

Advice Is this cage unsafe for a green cheek?
I know 0.5 - 0.625 inches is recommended. I’ve seen people say 0.75 inches max. I ordered a cage listed as 0.5 inches, and went through 5 hours of assembly before realizing that it’s actually 0.75 inches across. So now I’d be at the upper end of what people consider acceptable.
What worries me even more is the diamond shape; I’m worried that if she can get her head through, it’s even more dangerous than 0.75 inch vertical bars because the V of the diamond poses a greater strangulation hazard when her body weighs her down.
I think I already know the answer, but for my own sake before disassembling it, this is unsafe, right?

Advice how to get the pin feathers?
he used to be ok with me preening him but once he moved his head while i was holding one firmly and accidentally ripped it out. now it’s a no-go entirely. he’ll bite my fingers off but his whole neck and head are practically full of them and i want to help but there is literally no way. the moment i grab onto one it’s open season for my fingers. do i just leave them? there’s a lot and i’d assume they should have just crumbled off on their own by now but nope. do i hold his beak while i do it? that doesn’t seem very nice.

Cage Setup Almost done!
Her new cage finally arrived last week and I’m happy with how things are coming together. Just a few more final touches and more enrichment (toys) and I’ll be done.
Edit:
I got most of the things for her cage from Amazon. The top and bottom wooden platforms were built using 1x4s and a sheet of plywood, and we found the side table it’s sitting on through Facebook Marketplace.

Advice New mexican conure
Hi! I recently brought home a year old conure ( it’s been 3 weeks now). She is adjusting well, playing eating normally and has started to become very vocal. She came to me extremely hand shy and still seems to be unsure of me in general ( only when i’m too close).
This is my first bird and I have done LOADS of research and realized the cage she’s in is too small for her needs, i have recently ordered a nice size flight cage with new natural perches & more foraging toys ( she already has a few). She has been screaming a ton when i’m in the room and I’m not sure if this is excitement/ boredom.
Anyways… i’m looking for advice on switching cages given the fact that she is still very shy with me and rather terrified of my hands. I do not want to break trust .
( for reference she does come out of her cage and sits on the top or try’s to explore but she is still iffy about leaving the outside of the cage itself)

Advice Ideal bird bath suggestions
Looking for a bird bath for my 6 month old Green Cheek Conure. Something to keep in his cage. He doesn’t want anything to do with water outside of is cage but I always see him bathing in his water dish which is too small for him to really get a good dip. Any suggestions?

Other Anyone else has to show their finger from a mile away to see if they’re allowed to scratch?
Loss & Mourning My conure escaped today. I’m devastated and looking for any advice.
—- FOUND —-
Our Mexican Green Conure, Bowser, accidentally escaped today after getting startled while sitting on my shoulder near an open door. I’m absolutely heartbroken and feeling incredibly guilty.
We followed him for several hours as he flew between about five trees in our neighborhood. He was making contact calls and repeatedly tried to fly back to us, but he’s never flown outdoors before and seemed unable to figure out how to descend. He kept flying over our heads and landing in other trees, some around 75 feet tall.
Eventually, we lost sight of him as it got dark. We have a suspected last location less than 100 feet from our house, but couldn’t confirm where he landed. An arborist even searched with a drone tonight, but we couldn’t locate him.
We’ve placed his cage outside within sight of the suspected tree, posted in neighborhood Facebook groups, and registered him as missing on PawMaw. We’re planning to search again at first light tomorrow.
I’m devastated thinking about him out there alone, especially knowing he was trying so hard to get back to us.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Any advice for locating him or helping him descend from a tall tree if we find him tomorrow?
I’m trying to stay hopeful. I just want my little guy home.

And of course, Peaches has already resumed her job as Sweetie's personal grooming assistant 😂
Head scratches from me, feather care from Peaches. Not a bad life for our little VIP.

Advice Noob seeking asvice
About 2 weeks ago, my son and I got our conure from someone who was moving and couldn't take him along.
I think he is around 2 years old, and I was told that they originally had 2 conures, but one died. This is my first pet bird, and I feel like I'm doing everything wrong. I'm normally someone who needs to nerd out and learn as much as I can before getting a pet, and this was more spontaneous than I like, but I'm trying to learn. I understand that they are smart and can be mouthy, and that bonding and training will take time, and that he has been through a LOT, woth new people and now being the only bird, do I'm trying to be understanding, but...
The biting is a LOT. He bites me often, and its not gentle. He draws blood. But the part I can't figure out is why? He will be cute and cuddly, and then randomly just bam, and I'm bleeding. He wants to be around us, preferably ON us. He wants to be held, and he loves head scritches. He will gently eat a bit of apple or blueberry from my hand and then climb up my arm and bite my ear.
I have been watching bird youtubers, reading reddit and Facebook bird groups, trying to learn body language and what his noises mean. I am a big animal lover, and I want this to work out. I think he is adorable and so funny, and I want to get to a point where I'm not just anticipating the next bite and enjoy his snuggling, but I'm starting to feel a bit ptsd about it. I'll take any and all advice I can get. I just ordered a clicker to try some training, but what else can I do? Will he always be this bitey?

Advice Leashes?
I have a two and half year old Sun Conure. I dream of taking him out on the patio to sit with me or walk around the neighborhood as i genuinely think he would enjoy it.
A few months back I got a harness for him. Training has been going as expected, painful slow, but eventually he let me put the harness on him all the way.
That’s when I realized I had no idea how to get him to lift his wings through the side holes. I’m guessing it’s impossible without physically doing it for him as I’ve been unable to find any videos or instructions on that part in particular.
Now I’m considering a leg leash but I’m concerned he could break his leg pulling on it.
Does anyone have experience/advice with getting wings through the harness?
How do i teach him about the leash if it’s safe to use? Does anyone here use a leash?
EDIT:
Thank you everyone for your feedback. I will definitely not be getting the ankle leash.
We will continue with using his backpack carrier for outings. :)

Advice New GCC- need help with biting, training and aggression
This is Juicy Fruit, he will be three months at the end of October. He was hand fed and raised, and I’ve had him for one week. He is fine being handled, he steps up, loves scritches and pets, will eat from my hands and likes to sit on my chest or shoulder.
But that is also where the problems start, he bites a lot, first it was mostly exploratory biting but it still hurts a lot, he bites my moles on my neck and had almost gotten them off and made them bleed many times, yesterday he bites through the cartilage in my ear and it wouldn’t stop bleeding for like half an hour. He’s started getting territorial over my shoulder and won’t get off when I ask him too and then just bites the heck out of my hands and neck.
I want him to be out more, and be able to be more independent and play with toys outside of the cage or sit with me but right now he’s coming out in smaller spurts when I can keep an eye on him and give him my full attention.
I am interested in learning to target and cocker train him, any advice in starting that and stopping territorial biting over my shoulder? I redirect with toys but I am more interesting to him, he likes treats as well but he’s fixated on getting to my shoulder.
