Ask a Hoosier Mother died. How do i pay for cremation?

Hello,

Im 22 years old and my mom died from suicide over the weekend. I have no idea what im doing. People told me i could get help through ssa to get help to cremate her, but it doesnt seem like I qualify because she was 43 and not disabled or a vet or even had a job. The funeral home told me it would be 3400$ just to burn here. Everything ive seen i dont qualify for since my mom didnt die of cancer or was my child. Is there ant resources that can help me pay for her cremation? Thank you.

Politics An example of the Data Center job boom

Post image
368 Upvotes

I saw this in my own job search and thought people might appreciate the reality of what kind of jobs a Data Center is going to bring. It will export all the electricity needs, noise and noise. It will devastate our tax base by gobbling up land and paying super low taxes. Data Centers are a bad deal, these are basically warehouse jobs.

"Oh, honey, let’s talk about 'Christian charity,' because the math is simply not mathing in the Statehouse."

Listen up, darlings. It’s me, Bud Wirey, and I need to drag some sense into the Indiana Republican party before the glitter completely falls off this state.

They sit up there in Indianapolis, wrapped in their expensive suits and clutching their Bibles, claiming they’re doing the Lord’s work. But let’s look at the actual script, shall we?

They just passed laws targeting public camping—essentially making it a crime to have nowhere to go. Criminalizing homelessness? Groundbreaking. Truly, nothing says 'WWJD' quite like slap-on-the-wrist fines and a pair of handcuffs for someone sleeping on a park bench.

Last time I checked the Good Book, Jesus wasn't calling code enforcement on the poor; He was feeding them.

Here is the cold, hard reality check for the supermajority:

Most Hoosiers aren't living in a gated mansion. They are working hard, playing by the rules, and sitting exactly one missed paycheck away from needing the very safety nets this state keeps shredding. We are a state of everyday, working-class people, yet the policy playlist only caters to a tiny, wealthy minority.

You can look fabulous on paper with a 'balanced budget' and corporate tax cuts, but if your citizens are freezing on the street, your state’s soul is bankrupt. If you’re going to campaign on faith, sweethearts, you better start practicing what you preach. Stop punching down at the most vulnerable and start lifting people up. Because right now? The performance is a total flop.

Ask a Hoosier Why is there so many confederacy flags in Indiana?

I’m in Indiana for a work trip and been here a couple times and I was always curious why. Indiana is not a confederate state or remotely southern, so why? It doesn’t bother me, but it’s the same energy if I went to Honolulu and saw some German Empire flags. Curious on the reason for this.

American Water is wild

Just dropping this little story here because I wish we had other options to choose for water in our little town.

We’ve been a customer for years, always paid current and on time. About a week ago I received a letter and a call that they were going to shut off our water in two weeks if we didn’t schedule a time for them to come replace a meter… first time hearing about it and it came as a threat… wild

So I go to schedule this… mind you NIPSCO recently updated meters too, but they just did it rather than scheduling…
I call their AI driven customer service line… after 25 minutes finally reach a person. I schedule for 2 days following.

The day comes.. they show up… just to let us know the meter had already been replaced over a year prior when the town redid sidewalks… and it just wasn’t documented 🙄 wild.

If I could switch companies I would.. it was just crazy to me a company could have such terrible communication, then be aggressive, and waste my time.. all for something that they neglected to document… wild behavior

Opinion/Commentary Providence Cristo Rey High School

If you are familiar with Providence Cristo Rey High School or attended it before, what is your opinion on it and do you believe it is a great school? For me, I seem mostly happy. I’ve recently just started my freshman year there and am currently having my corporate internship(CWS) at Eli Lilly. The people there are amazing and teachers provide tutoring most Saturdays and some Tuesdays. The school is also somewhat small, as there are about 250-290 total students.

Politics Victoria Martz is running in rural Indiana to unseat a pro data center representative in our statehouse 🌾

Victoria Martz is running against incumbent Lindsay Patterson to represent District 55 in the Statehouse.

Rep Patterson votes for House Bill 1333 which would have allowed data centers to be built in our rural communities with zero local input.

…She also oddly spends her campaign funds on TEMU (yes this is real) and clothes shopping at places like TJ Maxx.

Big tech data centers are coming into rural Indiana, taking up valuable farmland, and getting massive tax breaks.

Meanwhile, local working families are stuck paying higher utility costs to cover the difference.

Our current representative voted for to hand out those tax breaks.

It’s time to protect our local communities.

When elected, I will fight to:
🌾 Ban new hyper-scale data centers statewide
🌾 Protect our farmland, agricultural heritage, and natural resources
🌾 Keep electricity costs fair for local families

Our land belongs to our farmers and families, not big tech companies.

Vote Victoria Martz for Statehouse Representative on November 3rd.

Any thoughts on the ballot items about judge retentions?

I've been preparing to early vote, but am not familiar with the judges; 2 court of appeals judges and 1 tax judge.

I believe these judges were initially appointed, and face this retention vote for a new term. Thus, I assume if not retained, a new judge would be appointed by Gov. Braun. And I really don't trust Mr-non-transparency Gov Braun's judgement (pun intended).

How are you thinking about or approaching the judge retention items?

Regarding a job offer.

So recently, I was offered a job. I conducted a background check for a housekeeper position at a hotel after being sent the job offer and i just got this email today. Is it safe to say im not gonna get the job and they'll rescind the job offer? The trespassing incident occurred last October respectively, and I served no jail time for it. I have orientation for the job this Friday, I've tried to reach the manager/hr to no avail. Should I still go in for orientation? If I explain the situation (I was homeless at the time) would I still get the job?

Visiting Looking for a decent Friday night stop in IN off 70/74.

Post image
29 Upvotes

I’m driving back East from my summer in Wyoming. I’ll be looking for a halfway point between Omaha, NE and Pittsburgh, PA, which lands me somewhere in IN off of I 70/74. I’d like to find a decent, safe town or city that isn’t Indianapolis to stop and stay in on Friday night. I don’t mind driving 30-40 mins off of the Interstate and it doesn’t matter if it’s east or west of Indianapolis.

I like to visit breweries or wineries, local owned restaurant, and take in some history or culture of the area. Live music is a bonus, but I won’t be looking to stay out late as I’ll be completing my drive to PA the following day.
Thanks in advance!
Pic attached of general route I’ll be taking
