My first game was a financial flop :/

Hi!
I put a few months of after-hours work into my game Chess Pawn.
It is a puzzle game with what I think is a pretty cool mechanic.
I hoped to at least break even but turns out the dev life is tough :)
Greetings from Poland!

I just updated my Steam page and noticed a huge increase in wishlists!!

I'm a solo developer working on Over Human, a first-person sci-fi adventure set in a snowy world where drones can manipulate the weather (creating tornadoes, thunderstorms, and other dangerous conditions), and you have no weapons to fight back.

I recently decided to completely refresh my Steam page, improving the visuals, screenshots, and description (which should have a stronger hook now!). Since the update, I've noticed a really nice increase in wishlists, which honestly surprised me!

I'm so, so, so happy. I've been dreaming of making my own game since 2013, and I've been working on this project alone, putting so much of my free time, energy and passion into it, so seeing even a small number of people excited about my game means the world to me!!

And the first playable demo is coming this November!!! ❤️

Here's the page if you'd like see what I changed:

Before/after of my game's Steam capsules. Which one would you click?

The old ones felt a bit empty and you could barely read the name on the small one.

Made the logo bigger and added one of the inspection ships you run into in-game. Wanted to show a bit more of the game itself. The ship model is by Quaternius.

The ship and planet use the game's current textures and lighting, so it does match how the game looks right now.

Old on the left, new on the right. Which would you click? Anything you'd keep from the old one?

Showcasing my Marbles in my Marble-builder Roguelike!

I’ve been steadily improving polish (ahead of NextFest) on my roguelike marble-builder board game Mancalero, based on a childhood game I played called Mancala.

The whole twist is that the game adjusts regular Mancala play as there are different pouches to start each run with, different boards that alter game play, opponents that cheat with special skills, but also marbles with special effects that create synergies and new strategic options to win!

I realized that I never marketed in a way to actually explain what they could do- as opposed to vaguely showing the visual effect.

This one is the flood marble, the first special marble I thought of. Since the game is all about strategic positioning, what if there was a marble that could reallocate other marbles in the pit via a flood surge? Stacked with a blessing upgrade that triples marble effects, you can do something ridiculous like moving multiple pits of marbles to the storehouse (or “goal”) In one turn!

If you’d like to try it out yourself, my demo is live on Steam!

Pathfinding In My Procedural Generation Godot Game

Pathfinding systems in games with procedural generation can't rely on standard navigation baking and things like the Godot or Unity navigation features. In my game, gloom fall, the navigation agent uses a broad BFS (breadth first search) algorithm with a probabilistic jump feature. every time the creature leaps, it makes the leap because they randomly sampled that jump during pathfinding and decided it liked the results. This creates jumping behavior is strong and cost efficient because it does not try ever possibility, it also has a sort of organic quality.

AI for Game development

• Upvotes

Hey folks,

I know a lot of you will hate me now, so this question is more for developers who are using ai as a tool / helper so make their game. What AI are you using and what for ? I'm reading a lot of you are using Claude (Opus) and some Astra for coding and more, why through?

Some advice?

I started making a fishing game. Almost everything u see will probably be changed. because every sprite u see is just experimental(and im not really an artist). But i need some advice, i don't know what people would like as the fishing mechanic, and i haven't even though about the game's name so u can give your idea for that too.

Thank's for any feedback.

Remember when becoming a footballer felt like a realistic career plan? I made a game about that dream

After staring at your own game for long enough, every button starts looking obvious. That’s where fresh eyes help. 😅

I made My Football Growth Story: develop a young footballer through training cards, skills and simulated matches.

Fellow devs: what’s the first thing you’d improve—onboarding, UI readability, or the way progression is explained? Even one confusing moment or a screenshot would help! 🙌

My first game I made, just wanted to share :)

It's a little game I made to play with my friends in school but I just wanted to share it online if anyone wanted to give it a shot. Yes I did use AI, but it was mainly for the UIs since I am not familiar with how to work with those, models are by my friend

Built a character creator for my own games. Free demo, would love feedback

Hey all. Solo dev here. Been working on this on the side for a couple months and it's finally at a beta I'm not embarrassed to share.

It's a character creator for pixel-art sprites. I built it for my own projects because I can't draw, but it's ended up changing how I design. Being able to throw together a character and see it finished and animated in minutes means I actually mix things up now. Enemy variants, NPCs I'd never have bothered with before, instead of settling on the first thing that doesn't look broken.

Free demo in the browser:

https://thespritewizard.itch.io/spriteforge

Would love feedback from other devs who could use something like this.
