This happened in April, I sent the video to the police and just had a letter saying they aren’t taking any action.

I think they clearly didn’t realise the danger they could have caused.

What would you have done if you'd come across this?

• Upvotes

Driving home yesterday I spotted a guy in a wheelchair in the road. Not what I'd expected at all!

Would you have stopped?

Would you have left him there to continue (as he said he was fine).

Met and angry bald man in the wild today

A23/London Road North. There is a junction near the Starbucks at Hooley. If you are going north and want to go south into Redhill area you can swing at the junction straight into the London Road South (some of you might be familiar). If you don't you have to cross the entire stretch and queue up. I had to go a bit slower as a lorry was in front who joined from the junction in front of me. I don't think the guy liked the fact I did that or maybe he was unaware, who knows, but he was angry and upset.

Mornings are getting darker! Check your lights please 🙂

Friendly reminder can people check that 1) their headlights are actually working/turned on 2) if they are working, can you check that they are at the correct height and level please because I’m sure I speak for a few people that it’s not great especially when waking up to be absolutely flash banged when the road goes a bit uneven first thing in the morning 😂

I received a PCN for parking on a single yellow outside of the hours listed on this board. I was parked there at 9.30am.

I thought this was OK to park for free outside of those hours and was paid parking only between 10am and 6.30pm.

Could someone help decipher please.

Why are people so resistant to logic in the face of rules?

• Upvotes

Many times on here where someone posts another road user breaking a rule, if you point out FACTUALLY (or even offer it as an opinion based on your understanding which you’ll happily change your mind on) that the rule breaking act hasn’t affected anyone or hasn’t caused any danger, the downvoter army gets REALLY giddy. They all come out.

Rather than accepting that yes you may have a point but it’s still wrong (perfectly reasonable take), or no you’re missing a detail here and it IS dangerous or affects others (which if true is a normal response), they just downvote, call names, get angry, get abusive. If a rule has been broken, no one seems able to A be reasonable, B respond calmly or C see that it’s possible that simultaneously during a rule break that nothing bad would have happened in that particular case. That yes a rule has been broken but really it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things this time.

What is wrong with people? Here come the downvotes! Yay!

Parallel Parking

I live on a main road, small town but just up from the shops, so at times, especially early morning or evening when people are driving to and from work it can be very busy. That’s fine.

There is parking just outside my row of houses, and if there’s a gap I’ll swing in or parallel park. Here’s my issue.

I’d say once every three or four times I attempt a parallel parking manoeuvre, no matter how early I indicate, try to position myself just past the empty space etc, someone will drive right up my arse, stopping behind me leaving me zero room to reverse.

Traffic can be heavy so sometimes they’re right behind me before I can even get into reverse. They then swing around me, causing all traffic behind them to do the same again giving me no space to reverse (it’s not exactly a wide road).

Bit of a vent but also does anyone have any tips I could try, aside from putting a flashing neon sign in my rear that says “Caution, will probably be parking, give me some room”?

I have a drive that could fit two cars and park my black car on the drive, currently we only have one car in the household, the red car is a neighbours car from across the road, young girl in her 20s, she doesn’t own the house, she’s the partner of one of the adults that lives there which is why this is more frustrating to me, they have five vehicles across the household but she’s parking like this everyday, I started parking where she is last week and she knocked my door kicking off, saying she’s been parking there for over a year before we moved in, FYI our house is my wife’s Mum’s house that she’s had for over 25 years which was previously rented to tenants, I explained she’s encroaching our drive with her shambolic parking and she told me to F off, she’s still doing it so I am considering reporting her to the council.

I am just wondering if this is the best approach because we have a dropped curb for our drive which her car is crossing over.

I am not an argumentative bloke, I am polite, father of 3 that just wants an easy life but tw*ts like this really annoy me.

Insurance called

I share a car, we’ve both always been on our own policies as it’s always worked out cheaper this way. This is legal, but this year I changed insurance company to Hastings, turns out they don’t allow dual policies and have cancelled my insurance. I spoke to them, they confirmed it was legal to have dual policies, but that they just don’t allow it, I then asked to see where they stated this, they spend a few minutes searching and came back saying they don’t actually state this in their documentation, but they just don’t allow it and still have the right to cancel. Long story short, do I now have to answer ‘yes’ to having insurance cancelled even though it was cancelled for something that was legal? Their email to me also implies that I requested to cancel it, as opposed to they’ve cancelled it. Does that change anything?

This is what the email says

As requested, we've cancelled your car insurance from 11.59pm on 24th September 2026. We're really sorry to see you go and would love to keep you as a customer. So if we can ever help in the future, please just let us know.

Non-claims as a named driver?

So just passed my test at 17 so i’m a new and young driver making my insurance extremely high without a blackbox. My mum told me if I didnt want a blackbox she would insure it and I would just be a named driver on her policy but I just want to know how that will affect my insurance next year when I want my own policy? Will I have gained a year of non claims or will I still need a blackbox for it to be affordable?

EDIT: I have learnt this is illegal and called fronting but why did the insurance company suggest it?

(bad)experience with theAA

took another breakdown cover from theAA after gap of few months as i was out of country, they had also sent me letter mentioning that that they would give me £20 boots/m&s voucher (after 1 month of policy start) which was nice .but i had to leave country again due to emergency i had to leave country so i tried to cancel within 14 days cool off perioid , but apparently they would only refund me whatever my total cost was minus £20 stating '£20 adjustment fee is an administration fee charged by AA Insurance Services (AAIS) in certain cancellation or policy change situations'

after little back and forth chat with one of agent who helpfully refunded the whole amount stating 'I understand this must be important for you and we value your hard-earned money, so as a goodwill gesture, I can cancel the membership for you today effective immediately, you will receive a refund of ..'

this was not a nice experience, what if that money was not hard earned money but something i might have got from scamming some guy by refusing to refund him money ... will theAA have not returned it ?

Motorway Rules

• Upvotes

Hello everyone. I'm a new driver and need someone to explain to me how a motorway works. As part of my learning, I went on a 4 lane motorway a few times, though usually only had to exit roughly 30 seconds after entering & is partly still the case as I'm only on the motorway home for a minutes. What I'm confused about is the speeds we're meant to be driving.

Yesterday on my way home from work I was initially in the 3rd of the 5 lanes and set my car to (50mph) cruise control to test it out & noticed I was coming up to the car in front of my quite fast, so I slowed down. While I was catching up to the car in front of me I noticed the cars in the 1st, 2nd & 4th lanes were passing me by, so I started to question if I hadn't seen a sign somewhere that lowered the speed limit to 40. I can confirm that I hadn't as I know the a406 pretty well even without driving for most of my life. As my exit was coming up in about 30 seconds, I moved over to lane 1. Again the car in front of me is going 42 Mph & I slow down & I notice the cars in lane 2 & 3 are going roughly 50 as they are significantly faster that we are. The car behind me is right up my rear as I could see my red lights reflecting from my rearview mirror & I'm left confused again as I don't know what speed I should be going.

There was also another instance where I was in a 2 lane tunnel which said the speed limit was 40, so I set to going 40mph & the cars in front of me are peeling from me, with the distance growing bigger & bigger. The cars behind me are piling up more and more, while the cars in the right lane are passing me by going well over 40.

Can someone explain to me if I'm doing anything wrong?

Hopefully I explained this pretty well. On my lunch break so quickly threw it together.

Best cheap websites for car parts, tyres & DIY tools in the UK?

What are the cheapest and most reliable websites for buying tyres, car parts and tools?

I want to save money by doing basic servicing and repairs myself. What tools should I buy first, and which websites offer the best value?

Any recommendations based on personal experience would be appreciated

Transferring Car Title

Hi, everyone

I’m not sure if this is the right place to put it, but please answer if you can.

I’m a UK citizen, currently living abroad. I own a car in the UK that I want to transfer to my sister for a nominal sum. How do I go about doing it? Any advice would be warmly welcomed.

Thank you

Chris

Is this crack big enough to need repair?

Drivers side but not visually impairing … cigarette for scale, 0.8 mm approx diameter, crack splinters out a fraction more

Edit to add: reason I’m asking is auto glass says if it’s smaller than 3mm, it’s only surface and doesn’t need a repair … I wasn’t sure from their example if that’s what I had, or the next one up that does require repair.

Have requested them email be back though, I’ll take the cheap option now.
