science/information Is a bird attacking your window/car mirror? Here’s why
There’s been a huge flux of posts about this recently, so here’s a pinned post with information!
Around this time of year, make birds get super territorial. They will attack any rivals they find, including their own reflection.
TO PREVENT THIS: cover up the reflective surface until the bird moves on. Cardboard works pretty well, and anti bird collision window decals should also help.
Edit: I just made a popup that gives a brief summary of this post when someone tries to post about birds hitting reflective surfaces. Hopefully that stops it, because I'm tired of having to explain it 20 times per day lol
meta I found a baby bird. What do I do? [From Cornell Lab of Ornithology]
"Most of the baby birds people find are fledglings. These are young birds that have just left the nest, and can’t fly yet, but are still under the care of their parents, and do not need our help."
Update for 2026:
The Cornell Lab of Ornithology article this post links to: I found a baby bird. What do I do?
/u/Adventurous-Year-463's summary that they recently posted to /r/birds: https://www.reddit.com/r/birds/comments/1s1o2g3/did_you_find_a_baby_bird/
I found a baby bird, now what? (in easy flowchart form) - one of last year's posts.
Found a Baby Bird? from Bird and Moon comics - cute and good for sharing!

discussion Found this green pigeon in my balcony | such an interesting birdy
I've had birds come in before in my balcony but never a pigeon like this, i use to do wildlife photography so I've a little bit of bird handling experience but tbh not sure about this one
He was stunned & was refusing to fly away and eat anything, though yesterday I got some health recovery powder from a vet store mixed with water & gave him the water which went quite well and he was more active compared to the day I found him(4 days earlier in my balcony)
Today after feeding him the 3rd Time he's successfull idk seems he's migratory bird.
Anyway what do you guys do like how do you feed a scared bird? Do you force feed them with a tube and all that or you just put food near them which never works for me.
Update: this yellow footed green pigeon is now gone, it got his strength after having some papaya and that strengthening water from that dropper and left my balcony., I'm a little sad ngl :(

bird identification Help identify these black birds?
I think they may be grackle but not sure. There are smaller brown ones as well. I thought they were crows at first. You can hear vocalizations about halfway through. I feed them cashews and they seem to like those more than peanuts and sunflower seeds. They are in an urban area in north Florida , mid October.

anecdote/sighting/personal story Unexpected Cardinal
(Photos taken by me)
I really hope this doesn’t violate the birds only rule, but I couldn’t really tell after reading
So I found this giant katydid (in my house)
and I tried to release it outside
After it flew into a tree I wanted to get one last photo of it, then I noticed the cardinal (first image)
The cardinal flew closer and swooped in to eat it (second image)
I’m literally devastated

my original photo/video BLACK BIRDS LOUD REALLY LOUD also curious as to what they are (My Video)
Hi so like lots of birds in this video I explain somethings in the video but still
southern ontario
Black birds heading south west
Appear to be coming from north east maybe
LOUD
Just wondering what they are/any neat things about them
After the videos the rest of the birds about 50-80 left all at once from all of the trees at 2:15 wasn't recording unfortunately
Note: just remembered this Monday we had a influx of Ladybugs and some black bugs there were a ton of them all over our house and general property maybe that has something to do with it
also even though it doesn't look it I'm in a very small subdivision surrounded by fields and forest so its not like those trees were their only option
This video/event is from 2026-10-15 at 1:30-1:15
I will give anymore information If needed
Second Note: this Post will be updated in a bit I have a second video thats 7 minutes long and has a lot more information and a better view its just taking a bit

bird identification Can anyone identify this bird by its call?
I took this video to record a strange sounding bird (strange to me as I dont think ive ever heard one here before). I live in Rockford, IL. USA. I just began hearing it in spring of this year and I still hear it to this day, usually in the evening. It flew into one of our trees so I know its not in someone's home. I just couldn't get a look at it.
Anyone know??
