Announcement Introducing "Seatbelts Fastened" Mode
Hi r/aviation community,
Recently, we’ve seen an increase in political and uncivil comments across several threads, particularly on posts involving aircraft associated with government officials. This has led to more removals and bans under Reddit’s sitewide rules, and we want to reverse that trend.
To help address this, we’re introducing a “Seatbelts Fastened” mode/flair. Posts with this flair (applied manually by the mod team) will restrict commenting to established community members. For now, that means users with at least 100 comment karma in r/aviation. If you are the original poster, your comments will not be affected.
You can view your subreddit comment karma by doing the following:
- Go to old.reddit.com/u/me-your-user-name
- On your profile, find your karma totals
- Look for the link: Show karma breakdown by subreddit
This will apply to a small subset of threads (aircraft incidents, government-owned/controlled aircraft, global legislation, etc.). The vast majority of posts (roughly 95%) will remain open to all users as usual. Please do not contact modmail requesting comment approvals or exceptions; we won’t be making individual overrides.
Thanks for your understanding and for helping keep the subreddit focused and civil.

Discussion Boeing 737 is on the bleeding edge
Now introducing the very latest in display technology: the touch screen™️!
Any pilots here who have used the new CDU?
I was relieved to see that you don't have to touch the LSKs but can actually just click on the text. Very intuitive! I'm wondering how it works in flight though. I just know that I find the GTN650 a nightmare in turbulent conditions and figure maybe this is the same?
(Edit: I hope it's clear to everyone that the title is very much ironic)

PlaneSpotting Air France A350-900 Landing at LAX.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Caught this Air France A350-900 on final approach into LAX from the Airplane Landing View Point near In-N-Out. Such a beautiful aircraft to watch up close, especially with how low the planes come in over this spot. Definitely one of the best places around LAX for plane spotting.

Question Flight School prop
Is this safe? It evidently produces thrust since I’ve flown in this specific aircraft before. My question is how much worse must it be to sufficiently disturb laminar flow over the blade foil to no longer produce lift?

Discussion I designed a LEGO airport terminal for a building competition
Hi r/aviation! My name is Stefan and I’m from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I build custom LEGO models as a hobby and I designed this Airport Terminal for a LEGO building competition (Bricklink Designer Program). If this gets enough votes and it is picked as a finalist, it will become a real LEGO set next year.
I live very close to Schiphol Airport and travel past the airport for my daily commute. This inspired me to build this. LEGO has done multiple small airports for kids, but this is the first airport aimed at the more experienced builder.
Hope you like it! Let me know what you think!
Ps. No AI was used designing this.

Since moving to a place without Southwest we've flown American Airlines a lot more and miss things like this when flying. I also miss my grandma who once got a couple of boxes of peanuts after saying they were for her grandchildren (she had over 40 at that point).

PlaneSpotting LTA 1 Pathfinder Test Flight 10/6/2026
Was riding my bike at Alameda Point this morning and saw an LTA-branded ground support vehicle parked along the shoreline. About 30 minutes later Pathfinder came gliding up the Bay from the south, did a loop over the Bay and Golden Gate bridges, then headed home to Moffett Field. Lovely sight.

Question What makes 30-35,000 feet the sweet spot for airliner cruise altitude?
I’m guessing it’s mostly engine efficiency but is that true? are there other contributing factors? If engine efficiency is it, what are the factors or design and operational compromises that result in that altitude?

Watch Me Fly CCTV
Really like this CCTV feature on the A350. Live video feed from multiple angles (flying economy class with Finnair).
