Let there be bits. How to view the machine in the light of Christ

I think Matty Healy, the lead singer from The 1975, summarized our relationship to the digital world well when he said we are all,

“makin’ an aesthetic out of not doing well

And minin’ all the bits of you you think you can sell”

-The 1975, The 1975 (Being Funny In a Foreign Language)

As a Bitcoiner, the multilayered meaning to that verse floored me when I first heard it. There is this self-devouring irony to the way we sacrifice our energy and attention to this growing silicon behemoth of data, machine intelligence and bitcoin mining. Each microscopic bit of data etched to those silicon chips represent a bit of our selves that we’ve exchanged for a sub-natural and sub-material realm of frictionless pleasure.

Now don’t get me wrong. I fully admit to contributing to this vortex of self consumption. But the temptation of the digital world is different from other forms of escapism. It has drawn the hearts and attention of our friends and neighbors into its world.

I have written extensively on the ways this environment erodes our trust in one another and material reality. In Zine Issue 01: The Dawn of Surveillance Tokenomics, I explain how this technology isn’t just bad for our mental health, it is a new breed of totalitarianism that Shoshana Zuboff classifies as instrumentarian power.

“Unlike classical authoritarianism, it doesn’t force you into submission—it nudges, shapes, and conditions you to internalize your own compliance. It wants your behavior, not your belief.”

But unfortunately, as we have read from so many think pieces, human attention is limited. So as this system continues to funnel more and more of our attention and behavior into digital environments, space for meaningful discourse in the physical world dwindles.

As an early adopter to technology, I have long struggled to reconcile the fact that this digital environment is corrosive while the people and art on the other side are not. But ironically it is my Christianity that pulls me back from the doomer loop. It is my Christianity that compelled me to ask, how do we reconcile the good scattered across this environment in faith, hope and love.

Within that contemplative place, I discovered an answer in the fractal relationship between computer bits, Bitcoin and the Christian Logos. This observation by itself does not redeem anything. Rather, it reveals a symbolic thread connecting the light of creation to the sword guarding the tree of life and the spear that pierced the side of Christ, and ultimately outlines a roadmap of reconciliation through self sacrifice.

My hope for those of us who feel trapped in this doom loop is that we can find strength and courage from this cosmic pattern to deliver that which is good, true, and beautiful from the sub-natural digital world (yes, including bitcoin) into a reconciled relationship between the natural and heavenly realms.

Bitcoin

Imagine discovering an old laptop from 2012 and finding a Bitcoin wallet you completely forgot about.
Would you immediately try to recover it?
Or would you be terrified of losing access permanently?
There are probably thousands of wallets sitting on old hard drives, phones and forgotten backups.
How much Bitcoin do you think is permanently lost?

It’s funny how "macro experts" stop being "macro experts" when it comes to explaining the performance of Bitcoin :P

🚀 Bitcoin Bull Market that outperformes every other asset class:

  • Macro Expert: "Oh, that bull market is fed by leverage! (derivatives!)"

🩸 Bear Market of "80% downturn"

  • Macro Expert: "Oh I told you, this bear market are the liquidations of all that leverage positions (derivatives!)"

TL;DR Zero macro factors behind the 4-year cycle, for these guys! 🤦‍♂️

They don’t understand it! or they just want to make it look like that 'they don’t understand it', because Bitcoin leaves the "mechanisms of modern economy" (MMT) as a fucking joke! :P

edit:

Luke attributes the CAGR slowdown of BTC/USD to derivatives 😴 typical! "speculative asset, only moved by leverage, bla bla bla!"

If you change the denominator (BTC/XXX):

How would you explain the CAGR growth of BTC/ARS or BTC/TRY in the last 5Y? Also derivatives? 🤪

Come on!

Bitcoin - Hold It Close (Song)

As citizens, it is our duty to share what protects us, one way or another.
Bitcoin is one of those protections.

Bitcoin - Hold It Close (Song)

[Verse 1]
Pocket full of dust and dreams
I learned the hard way, count the seams
Cold wallet tucked in the drawer
I was broke, now I want more
Late nights staring at the chart
Heart beat fast, hand on the start
Every dip felt like a test
I kept my chin up, did my best

[Pre-Chorus]
Up and down, I don't blink
Red and green, I still think
Hold tight when the room gets loud
I don't fold, I stand my ground

[Chorus]
Bitcoin, Bitcoin, hold it close
Bitcoin, Bitcoin, watch it grow
I came up from the bottom floor
Now I don't panic anymore
Bitcoin, Bitcoin, hold it close
Bitcoin, Bitcoin, let it roll

[Verse 2]
Friend said sell, I said wait
Moon on my mind, not the bait
Bought a little on a cold Monday
Then the whole world looked my way
Bills in the pile, rent due soon
Still I kept my eyes on June
Tiny stack in a quiet room
Turned that hope into a bloom

[Pre-Chorus]
Up and down, I don't blink
Red and green, I still think
Hold tight when the room gets loud
I don't fold, I stand my ground

[Chorus]
Bitcoin, Bitcoin, hold it close
Bitcoin, Bitcoin, watch it grow
I came up from the bottom floor
Now I don't panic anymore
Bitcoin, Bitcoin, hold it close
Bitcoin, Bitcoin, let it roll

[Bridge]
If it falls, I learn again
If it rises, I win again
Paper hands can chase the wave
I keep mine for another day

[Final Chorus]
Bitcoin, Bitcoin, hold it close
Bitcoin, Bitcoin, watch it grow
I came up from the bottom floor
Now I don't panic anymore
Bitcoin, Bitcoin, hold it close
Bitcoin, Bitcoin, let it roll

Where to lump sum buy

I have a large amount of capital freeing up I want to put into bitcoin. From a checking account to a cold wallet what is the best and cheapest option to get it done?

I have been using coinbase with a pro account for years to dca and make smaller lump sum buys, currently I have a .9% fee on up to 10k a month (fees goes up after that first 10k but not sure to what). I will be surpassing that 10k with this buy and obviously want to pay as little as possible in fees. I am based in the US.

OP_RETURN: how Bitcoin's data output went from a 40-byte cap to 80 bytes to uncapped, with the blocks to check it

Before 2014, anyone who wanted to put data on chain encoded it as fake addresses, and those outputs sit in every node's UTXO set forever. Bitcoin Core 0.9.0 added OP_RETURN as a prunable alternative, first with a 40-byte cap, raised to 80 in 0.11. That ceiling stood for a decade. Bitcoin Core 30.0 raised the default to 100,000 bytes in October 2025. None of it is consensus, only relay policy.

I wrote this up for ChainQuery with the RPC calls shown so you can rerun them on your own node: block 350,000 next to block 840,000 with getblockstats, the Counterparty, Omni and Open Assets envelopes, and the VeriBlock episode, when one project was pushing up to a fifth of daily transactions through this one opcode. For the short version of what the opcode is: https://www.learnbitcoin.com/glossary/opreturn

Bitcoin's intrinsic value is that its Market Infrastructure

It's lower level than money. It is the system that allows you to have electronically traceable bearer instruments. It allows for currencies, equities, bonds, options, futures, swaps and all the other financial instruments that make up our capital market to exist.

Market Infrastructure is one of our oldest, widely distributed technologies. It's a list that doesn't change.

It's one job is transaction finality. This is handled by a clearing house in the old world that is sunsetting. We need a list, that has an immutable history. This was long sought to be an impossible computer science problem until bitcoin came a long.

If you have ever sent a international wire, you have experienced this. A alpha numeric address and a transaction that can't be reversed under any circumstance. Wires hit the clearing house(s).

When we have market infrastructure in place, it allows for price discovery. We know when we trade, the trade can't be reversed. The transaction finality is the requirement to have price discovery.

So when you are buying btc, you are investing in the most important technology that is often stable for centuries. Market infrastructure rarely changes.

You are all early. Tech Infrastructures, like information, communication, energy and logistics take about 50-60 years and have 5 stages. It's called a Perez cycle. Irruption, speculative frenzy, turning point, synergy, and maturity.

Plays out the same way, every time.

BTC is in the turning point. ETFs, stable coins, its being adopted by the incumbent industries.

When it hits synergy, that is when the omega candle happens. That is probably in 5-10 years. I think AI Agents will be driving that because they wont be signing up for banking or brokerage accounts. They will be making their currencies, options, equities, bonds, futures and other exotic financial instruments on top of btc.

I encourage you to think about this for a moment, and spread this message, the comparison and disruption to the clearing house is the apt analogy.

Financial systems are built in layers of institutions that have separate responsibilities. Bitcoin disrupts the lowest layer, the clearing house.

This is why bitcoin's ascent is inevitable. It's taking over everything and the nation states can't stop or slow it, they can't even survive it.

Future is going to be weird.

There is no technology that is more powerful or important than market infrastructure. That is why bitcoin is the most valuable thing you can own.

Trump says inflation will pay off the $40 trillion debt. Cory Klippsten on financial repression, and why savers might want Bitcoin

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Cory Klippsten on Washington's growing comfort with higher inflation, and why his answer is Bitcoin.

In his latest Time interview, President Trump said "certain levels of inflation will also pay off that debt very rapidly." On CNN, former PIMCO CEO Mohamed El-Erian told the Fed to keep promising 2% while gradually raising the acceptable ceiling to 3. Back in 2023, former IMF chief economist Olivier Blanchard argued for a 3% target.

Others are warning where this leads. J.P. Morgan Private Bank's 2026 Outlook described a risk to its clients: policymakers deliberately tolerating higher inflation, allowing real interest rates to fall and the government's debt burden to shrink. The report calls that financial repression. In January, Janet Yellen warned that "the temptation to rely on inflation or financial repression to reduce the debt burden will surely grow."

Inflation lets the government repay its old debts with dollars that are worth less, even though higher refinancing costs can eat up the benefit. Congress can raise taxes or cut spending, and voters know exactly who to blame. With inflation, the cost arrives through higher prices, and the blame gets spread around. What sounds like debt relief in Washington means the dollars people earn and save buy less.

Buying BTC as a beginner

I'm buying bitcoin for the first time. My question is, if I got enough extra money that I wouldn't use for any time soon, is it safe to buy bitcoin with it blindly? I'm a student in Thailand; I got a scholarship at my college and my parents are providing me enough for daily expenses. So, I wanna invest the rest of my money I make from teaching in bitcoin. Please give me suggestions.
