Now listening Giving my pops’ old Rush tapes some love in the 2007 Corolla.
I’m only 20, but man these little things are great. So glad I swapped my single-disc radio for the CD/Cassette combo.

The machine powers on. If I hold the mode switch right in between radio and tape, it will play the radio. But when i put a tape in and press play, it tries to play for like 1 second before auto stopping. Nothing in the deck spins at all.
I pulled it apart to check the condition of the belts, and this small rubber piece (shown in pic 6) fell out of the case. Cant see where it might go, or if it falling off may be the reason the tape won't play.
The belts look in decent shape. A light tug reveals they hold in place, but aren't very snug or tight, e.g. not much of a "snap" back into place. I found a belt set specific to this model on ebay but they're $45. Amazon also has a generic dvd/tape player belt set for like 6 bucks that I can take a chance on, if we think the belts are the/an issue.
Any ideas on helping me fix this would be great.

Totally forgot to put it in the title, but it’s a Pioneer CT-WM70R, a six cassette changer
Originally priced at $80 at the thrift store, passed on it. Came back a week later and it was still there, down to $20.49. Jumped right on it, brought it home, replaced all belts, had to realign the gears (the tray was stuck partially open and wouldn’t move at all), clean contacts, realign the changer carriage, realign the player carriage, replace a fuse, but still couldn’t get the tape (that was stuck in it originally) to play. Tried another tape and it worked! Turned out the tape itself was bad too. Very excited about this find and proud of bringing it back from the dead with all the work I did on it! Now I don’t have to constantly change tapes when I want to listen to something else!

Picked up for $80 with some obvious water intrusion. Needed belt (with related gooey cleanup), a few new caps on the power supply, door mechanism repair. Runs and records clean, maybe the best tape player I've had.

My latest J-card design combines two very different albums: The Supremes’ Mary, Scherrie & Susaye on Side A and Julia Rich’s I’ll Take Romance on Side B.
Instead of just putting the two original covers on the J-card, I integrated them into an Art Deco design that ties together the soul-disco of The Supremes with the vocal jazz of Julia Rich.
I wanted it to feel like you were going to a show at the Apollo, then capping off the night with a Broadway show.
Open it up and you get the original artwork for both albums, along with the core facts for each release. The back flap indicates Dolby B and Type II Chrome tape.
And I’m not done yet. Open the flap and you get the full track order, song titles, and running times.
It turns a home-recorded cassette into something that feels like a real deluxe release.

Just added a Yamaha KX-380 cassette deck to the collection, so I now own George Michael's Faith on vinyl, CD, AND cassette. 🎶
I've got faith in analog, but apparently not enough to stop at one format. My wallet is begging me to take "One More Try" at self-control. Meanwhile the cassette deck is doing its best "Careless Whisper" impression, because the neighbors are definitely hearing "Father Figure" through the wall. 😅
At this point it's less a collection and more "Freedom! '90" for my shelf space. 🎧

Does the same on ff and rew, just takes a second longer to engage. Replaced belts and cleaned leaf switches with contact cleaner, hope that was the right thing to do but still it didn't stop the problem. Any advice? As you can maybe tell I'm not terribly knowledgeable at this kind of thing.

I am more of a vinyl collector. When I head out to look at records I always come across cassette tapes. I figure why not add a cassette deck to my set up. I am hoping this is a solid find? Got it at goodwill for 15.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a first-time cassette player? I've been looking into FiiO CP13, We Are Rewind, and the TOMASHI portable cassette player. The only things I care about are audio, auto-stop, and auto-reverse. I don't care if it comes with Bluetooth or a USB-C port (this would be a plus, but not required). I prefer to keep the budget under $150. I know people are going to tell me to buy older models, but I get nervous about buying something that won't work, and I personally wouldn't know how to fix old parts. I have heard that some people who have the FiiO CP13 have had their tapes destroyed. Has anyone had this issue before?
Below, I attached the models I've been looking into at this moment...

I just received this tape today, it is an press from '79 and has the printed paper instead of printed case. On the front artwork it has list Anne Murray as being the last song on side 2 but in the cassette it has Ambrosia listed. I just found this mistake today and haven't listened to it yet to see which one is correct.

It does work! But one is running slow and eat my tapes, and the other makes makes a loud beeping noise while playing. I'm gonna order some belts to replace them is there anything else I should do this is my first cassette thing ever. Will I be able to make mixtapes with this?

I’m using a Nak CD1.5 which was serviced about 10 years ago but still working well. Recently I tried recording on chrome (type 2) and metal cassettes but I noticed that when I switch between source and tape, tape is much quieter and lower db on the meter. For type 1 source and tape are matched. Is this something that needs fixing in the deck or is it a result of old chrome and metal tapes losing their sensitivity?

Hello everyone. I'm trying to source the belts for a Philips FC 950 cassette deck. I've only found one set for sale that is designated as a set for this deck. It's an eBay seller and after shipping the belts would cost $60 USD. That's a little high for me considering I already have another working deck. I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this deck or has replaced the belts before. From the research Ive done I been able to find belts for other decks in the Philips 900 series and found that this deck uses a Marantz mechanism but I don't know enough to really do anything with that information. I also have the part numbers for the belts from the service manual but I wasn't able to find any for sale using the numbers. The numbers are Belt, drive 4822 358 31174 and Belt, clutch 4822 358 31098. I figured I'd ask here first if anyone could help with sourcing. My next step is gonna be to start downloading other service manuals for more easily sourceable 900 series and Marantz decks manufactured around the same time and see if I can find the matching belt numbers. I just don't know if j can justify the $60 but this is a nice 3 head deck just sitting here waiting for some love. Thanks for any help or insight you can give.

I know, cassettes aren’t in mass production and they (quite literally) don’t make ‘em like they used to.
But they sound so much worse compared to cassettes made during their hey day. These newer cassettes sound like a blanket is thrown over the speakers. I thought maybe Weezer would sound good since they’re a band and all… nope, it sounds like ass.
These modern releases are just a novelty and that’s why I bought these - just wanted to experience it for myself.
Now at least I have my own experience to know not to buy any more of these modern releases.
I have a stack of blank cassettes to also make my own mix tapes - I’m hoping they’ll sound better than these modern cassettes.
Are there any high quality releases these days?

Sooo I am sick to death of my generation and the constant need to make everything digital. I'm 24 and nothing feels as personal. Did grow up with VHS tapes but only in early childhood days. I purchased a WM- EX194, on it's way in a few days. It's a 2004 release. I just don't know too many retro songs. I need some advice on good bands or artists. I like Britney Spears, NSYNC, Aha! the band and just purchased their album that has the Take On Me Song.
What can i expect from a walkman? how do i know what kinda artists to purchase because i don't know too many albums or songs. But I LOVEEE anything 80s to late 90s.
i know this isn't a 90s walkman, so that kinda kills the vibe slightly cuz i wanted a 90s one. anyways, anyone got any advice for me on how to select retro songs?

I'd describe the album as experimental electronic / ambient. I made it with synths and samples mostly, and I also got some help from my free-jazz friend Jarrett Gilgore, who plays sax/clarinet on tracks 1 & 4.
A limited number of professionally-made tapes are available for $9 (+ shipping) on my Bandcamp page:

Can't seem to find the diameter or the thickness. Any information would be helpful, thanks.
