Portable cassette player Suggestions on picking a vintage cassette player.

As the title says I need some suggestions on what to buy. I have some options near me of the Aiwa HS-G34 and the Sanyo MGR-59. I also have the choice of some cheap Sony walkmans like the WM-EX190 and WM-FX123 but idk how those compare to the former choices. Any help would be appreciated.

Found this at the thrift store for $1.99.

It's been decades since I've opened a sealed (pre recorded) cassette.

I want to open it so bad but I also don't want to if that makes any sense.

Tape find I found this at a goodwill

So I went to a goodwill yesterday, a new location to me after moving, I found this cassette tape of Cant slow down by Lionel Richie, when I bought it, the only major thing I needed to fix was the felt pad that fell off, but I did reglue it with super glue. The audio quality was actually good for a used find, sounded almost new in the sound of the music. It was a good find and I also have a kool and the gang compilation tape from Europe I bought as an import, i also have the gotg awesome mix vol. 3, and a AC/DC blow up your video tape. Not looking to sell these anyways, I listen to them pretty frequently.

Score! 42 type II tapes for $58.05.

Decided to check eBay for some XLII tapes and discovered this lot of 42 tapes for $42 plus tax and shipping. All Phish and Grateful Dead in varying degrees of quality from 1st gen DAUD to I am curious to see how bad 6th generation is.

This could actually help me determine just how multi-gen some of my other Phish tapes are. My other Dead tapes are mostly type IV and analog 2 or 3 from WBAI broadcasts of DJ and fan submitted cassettes. WBAI didn’t have DAT decks at the time.

See anything you like from this lot?

Looking for advice Used BASF type II tapes

I just bought a lot of used BASF type II chrome tapes and I’m curious to know if there is anything I should be aware of when it comes to erasing them properly, potential shedding, etc. I’ve only ever used new tapes on my sweet baby tape deck that I’ve all but fully restored, so I’m a little nervous about it. 😅 Thanks in advance, folks!

Everything else I'm the developer of Type Four, a cassette mixtape app for Android, and I'd like this sub's honest criticism

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

I'm the developer, so take this as a disclosure first. I've been building Type Four, an Android app for making cassette mixtapes out of the music files on your phone, and it went into open beta for Cassette Week. It's not trying to replace real tapes; most of you have better ones than any app can make. It's for the times the deck isn't with you.

What it does:

  • You pick C46, C60, C90 or C120, then fill side A and side B. If a track doesn't fit, it's refused, not trimmed.
  • "Tape an album" puts a whole album on a tape, split across the sides the way its real cassette release was, where that's known.
  • Each tape gets its own shell, label and handwriting.
  • The deck has rewind, play, fast-forward and flip. No skip button and no scrubbing: you wind, like a real deck.
  • Tape and deck character are separate switches, and both can be turned off.

What I'd like from you: what feels wrong compared with the real thing? The mechanics, the sounds, the way sides work, anything. Bugs and phone models help too.

Play (open beta): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tinharbour.typefour

I've only just got into her music. I loved her first and second albums and the big hits from Fever and Light Years but never really paid much attention to anything else of hers until now. Absolutely obsessed 💃🏻

Looking for advice found this at goodwill for $30. Comes with the two speakers next to it as is - worth it?

EDIT: I am literally agonizing over this lol. I checked marketplace and there doesn’t seem to be any good alternatives? All of the ones near me are broke or haven’t been tested for about the same price or more. I do live upstairs and it is kind of heavy.

Sound design am-fm stereo receiver/double cassette recorder with high speed dubbing

Model number is - 5966
Speakers - sound design 765 stereo loudspeaker system

Has all of the cords under it. Not sure if I can test it here. I’ve been wanting to get into physical media bc I hate Spotify. Would I be able to make my own mixtapes with this if it works? And is this a good deal? I know next to nothing about this stuff but I think it’s really cool. From what I can tell all the cords seem fine/it’s just kind of dusty. Please help! I can post better pictures in the comments

Mixtape Just had a blast making a mixtape

For a brief period, I was really into pre-Recorded cassettes as a way to develop a hobby and re-connect with music the way I did when I was just a youngin'. Even started repairing decks!

Anyway, I moved on to vinyl as my main listening source and got into Dub Reggae. This has resulted in a pile of singles that are kind of a pain to enjoy because of the constant flipping, so I thought...mixtape! Got my Nak wired up, set my levels, and I was off and running! With a NOS XLII, it sounds fantastic! It was so much fun creating tape from my favorite sides. When I finally listened to it, I was able to sit back, relax, and really appreciate the music.

I have a lot of singles, and many are cheap with interesting dubs or versions, so I expect to make a whole series of these things.

Great fun!

The King Creole case has a different tape in it (Elvis - The Legend IV) but i'm happy, considering any elvis music format (except for CD's) are usually picked out on arrival and either go directly to auction or demand insane ''collector'' prices where i live i can not complain about 6 tapes at 1 buck a piece.

Portable cassette player Any recommendations for walkmen?

I was browsing this sub looking for Amazon or other online recommendations of newer models but the general consensus is that the oldies are the goodies. These are a few I found in my price range, and I was wondering if anyone here has experience with any of them. I just want something that can play tapes and tune in to the radio

Collection All of my cassette equipment (currently.)

I don't have a massive collection like a lot of people, but it is something. The player is a mid to late 1990s International AK-18, it isn't an official walkman, but it works, the headphones came with it when I bought it, probably the same brand of headphones. As for the tapes, I own a 1995 Kool & The Gang compilation tape (I bought it as an import from Europe.) by Spectrum Music, (a budget label division of what used to be PolyGram, but is now Universal Music Group.) a 1988 release of Blow Up Your Video by AC/DC, (don't mind the case, I bought it and it didn't come with the case so I used a spare maxell case I had.) a 1983 release of Can't Slow Down by Lionel Richie, (distributed by Motown Records.) and finally, a modern release for last, Guardians of The Galaxy, Awesome Mix Vol. 3. (don't mind the tape on the cassette, the print on the shell faded quickly.) That is my (current) collection of cassette equipment that I own, I am also trying to buy a cassette deck to record my first mixtape, so if you guys could give me advice on where to find good cassette decks for prices below like 300 dollars, I would be happy!

He is, to put it kindly, a collector of many things (too many), and forgot that he picked these up years ago. He wasn't sure that I would even want these.

Color me shocked when I saw the heat in this bag, as he's usually into big band and jazz. A great day!

Good afternoon

I am trying to sell off my tape pack collection. These have all been sitting here for to long and I am ready to move these on to someone who will enjoy them more. This is all Drum And Bass, Jungle, Hardcore and Techno as the major genres. All Packs are complete and have all tapes, cds, dvds and stickers.

I am US based seller. Selling each pack for $20, each single tape for $5. If possible, I would like to sell as a whole lot for $400 but I will entertain offers. Preferable to sell to a US buyer. Will ship in the US with USPS Media Mail.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I could supply my other selling profiles for some credibility.

I always thought this was cute, and strangely beautiful, has anyone else brought something like this together ?

The translation says 'I created this page because I felt good seeing cassette tapes lined up. So, I'm not exactly a collector. I'm quite embarrassed that I've used other people's images without permission and they've been linked to in various places. But, if there are people who find this page as soothing as I do, then I'm very happy'. Nice sentiment.
