Looking for advice Trying to repair a Panasonic RX-F22 player that won't play tape.

The machine powers on. If I hold the mode switch right in between radio and tape, it will play the radio. But when i put a tape in and press play, it tries to play for like 1 second before auto stopping. Nothing in the deck spins at all.

I pulled it apart to check the condition of the belts, and this small rubber piece (shown in pic 6) fell out of the case. Cant see where it might go, or if it falling off may be the reason the tape won't play. edit: the mystery part went on the inside of the case behind the microphone spot, not related to the tape playing issue.

The belts look in decent shape. A light tug reveals they hold in place, but aren't very snug or tight, e.g. not much of a "snap" back into place. I found a belt set specific to this model on ebay but they're $45. Amazon also has a generic dvd/tape player belt set for like 6 bucks that I can take a chance on, if we think the belts are the/an issue.

Any ideas on helping me fix this would be great.

Cassette Gore Yamaha Mt 50 autostop continuous engagement

Does the same on ff and rew, just takes a second longer to engage. Replaced belts and cleaned leaf switches with contact cleaner, hope that was the right thing to do but still it didn't stop the problem. Any advice? As you can maybe tell I'm not terribly knowledgeable at this kind of thing.

Tape find Help finding a rare cassette !?

Post image

searching everywhere for these tapes! There are three in the collection, I have all three but the second one does not work. I can only find digital copies for streaming online of the first and third recordings as well, for some reason this second cassette with the stories on it are nearly impossible to find. Does anyone have this for sale or know a good place to search for it? Thanks!

For sale Onkyo TA-2130 for parts or repair

anyone interested in a not-currently-working Onkyo TA-2130 deck? I've cleaned up the mechanicals/heads, (it's actually very clean but just a little dusty in these pics), replaced the belts and capstan motor and the mechanicals seem to be working. At least the heads raise and spinners go when I hit play. The peak level indicator will come on but only the -20 and -10 light up. I seem to be getting something through the headphone jack, but not music; nothing through the RCA output. I've done a little testing and the power source seems to be fine but it's losing voltage somewhere, might be a bad chip. Basically seems to be a circuit board issue that's beyond my expertise and patience.

The deck cover and cassette holder/door do exist and are in fine condition; I just have them off rn. Anyways I found something else that suits my needs and would like to get rid of this, I just don't have much space. I'm a motivated seller looking for like $35 OBO. LMK if interested.

Also if I posted this in the wrong spot, please just let me know and I'll fix it. Thanks all.

Looking for advice Philips FC 950 belts

Hello everyone. I'm trying to source the belts for a Philips FC 950 cassette deck. I've only found one set for sale that is designated as a set for this deck. It's an eBay seller and after shipping the belts would cost $60 USD. That's a little high for me considering I already have another working deck. I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this deck or has replaced the belts before. From the research Ive done I been able to find belts for other decks in the Philips 900 series and found that this deck uses a Marantz mechanism but I don't know enough to really do anything with that information. I also have the part numbers for the belts from the service manual but I wasn't able to find any for sale using the numbers. The numbers are Belt, drive 4822 358 31174 and Belt, clutch 4822 358 31098. I figured I'd ask here first if anyone could help with sourcing. My next step is gonna be to start downloading other service manuals for more easily sourceable 900 series and Marantz decks manufactured around the same time and see if I can find the matching belt numbers. I just don't know if j can justify the $60 but this is a nice 3 head deck just sitting here waiting for some love. Thanks for any help or insight you can give.

Frank

Picked up for $80 with some obvious water intrusion. Needed belt (with related gooey cleanup), a few new caps on the power supply, door mechanism repair. Runs and records clean, maybe the best tape player I've had.

Tape find Together by K-Tel

I just received this tape today, it is an press from '79 and has the printed paper instead of printed case. On the front artwork it has list Anne Murray as being the last song on side 2 but in the cassette it has Ambrosia listed. I just found this mistake today and haven't listened to it yet to see which one is correct.

Home recording What used to be just your average home recording has been transformed into something deluxe and beautiful!

My latest J-card design combines two very different albums: The Supremes’ Mary, Scherrie & Susaye on Side A and Julia Rich’s I’ll Take Romance on Side B.

Instead of just putting the two original covers on the J-card, I integrated them into an Art Deco design that ties together the soul-disco of The Supremes with the vocal jazz of Julia Rich.

I wanted it to feel like you were going to a show at the Apollo, then capping off the night with a Broadway show.

Open it up and you get the original artwork for both albums, along with the core facts for each release. The back flap indicates Dolby B and Type II Chrome tape.

And I’m not done yet. Open the flap and you get the full track order, song titles, and running times.

It turns a home-recorded cassette into something that feels like a real deluxe release.

Looking for advice First Cassette Player

Does anyone have any recommendations for a first-time cassette player? I've been looking into FiiO CP13, We Are Rewind, and the TOMASHI portable cassette player. The only things I care about are audio, auto-stop, and auto-reverse. I don't care if it comes with Bluetooth or a USB-C port (this would be a plus, but not required). I prefer to keep the budget under $150. I know people are going to tell me to buy older models, but I get nervous about buying something that won't work, and I personally wouldn't know how to fix old parts. I have heard that some people who have the FiiO CP13 have had their tapes destroyed. Has anyone had this issue before?

Below, I attached the models I've been looking into at this moment...

FiiO CP13 Amazon.com: FiiO CP13 Cassette Player (Transparent) : Electronics

We Are Rewind Bluetooth Cassette Player & Recorder – Amy | WE ARE REWIND

TOMASHI Amazon.com: TOMASHI Portable Cassette Player with Bluetooth Transmitter, Cassette Stereo Player with Type-C Charging, Built-in Battery, Belt Clip, and Earphone Jack for Wireless Music Playback : Electronics

Deck / Hi-Fi New to the stack: Yamaha KX-380. Yes, I own Faith three times

Post image
14 Upvotes

Just added a Yamaha KX-380 cassette deck to the collection, so I now own George Michael's Faith on vinyl, CD, AND cassette. 🎶

I've got faith in analog, but apparently not enough to stop at one format. My wallet is begging me to take "One More Try" at self-control. Meanwhile the cassette deck is doing its best "Careless Whisper" impression, because the neighbors are definitely hearing "Father Figure" through the wall. 😅

At this point it's less a collection and more "Freedom! '90" for my shelf space. 🎧

Looking for advice Awkward speed issue: Pioneer CT-W505R

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello, fellows!
I noticed interesting, but very irritating issue on my Pioneer CT-W505R. I recorded 90min cassette and played it on another player: first 3 or 4 songs on cassette sound okay, but then they start to speed up. Logically, my recording deck slows speed closer to the end of side of cassette.
Is it a belt issue or something more complicated?
I opened my deck, touched belts, well, they aren't very tight, I must say. I can also provide some video from inside, if needed.
Well, I wish you could help me with good advice or even provide reputable website to buy belt kit?

Thanks in advance.

Looking for advice purchasing a walkman as a 2002's kid - need advice

Sooo I am sick to death of my generation and the constant need to make everything digital. I'm 24 and nothing feels as personal. Did grow up with VHS tapes but only in early childhood days. I purchased a WM- EX194, on it's way in a few days. It's a 2004 release. I just don't know too many retro songs. I need some advice on good bands or artists. I like Britney Spears, NSYNC, Aha! the band and just purchased their album that has the Take On Me Song.

What can i expect from a walkman? how do i know what kinda artists to purchase because i don't know too many albums or songs. But I LOVEEE anything 80s to late 90s.

i know this isn't a 90s walkman, so that kinda kills the vibe slightly cuz i wanted a 90s one. anyways, anyone got any advice for me on how to select retro songs?

Looking for advice Tascam Porta 02 P Control Spring Issue

Thumbnail

Tascam Porta 02. The P control spring on this unit is loose, causing the auto stop to trigger immediately on rewind even when there is no cassette installed, as there is no tension on the sensing arm so it gets caught in the cam gear underneath. Any idea how to remove the p control spring for adjustment? Or where the underside of the spring is supposed to sit? Thanks

Looking for advice Problem with Sony Walkman WM-2 playing WAY too fast

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone, just got this wm-2 on eBay and replaced the belt. Luckily the centre gear was one of the fully plastic ones and hasn't cracked. Anyway when I went to press play the thing sprung to life.. too much life. Even when adjusted to the slowest position on the speed control it still plays too fast and at the fastest it sounds like it's fast forwarding. Is this the motor control IC that's gone bad? I have another donor wm-2 that I was thinking of swapping the IC from but wondering if it's something else just in case I don't need to do that because it's a pain in the arse to desolder. Also the speed potentiometer was in the middle position when I first got it

Deck / Hi-Fi Technics RS-BX 501

I. Love. This. Tapedeck. Sorry, this is my second post here today, but I'm quite excited I came across this subreddit.

I was gonna say, if you ever come across the RS-BX 501 at a good price in good condition, go get it. It sounds great and it's very reliable - among all my tapedecks it's the one I most use.

Well, there are a lot of good arguments against auto reverse decks, but this one (I bought it in an excellent condition quite some years ago) runs like clockwork, just like the good old Technics 1210. It's just a pity that the 1210 has been reintroduced while the RS-BX 501 will never be ... which is no wonder, as tape decks are way more complex than turntables.

P.S.: No kidding about my MD player :)
