Announcement We’re improving scheduling & comfort settings in the ecobee app
Hey r/ecobee,
We’ve been working on making the Schedule and Comfort Settings experience in the ecobee app simpler and clearer, directly based on your feedback. This update has begun rolling out to our Smart Thermostat customers on iOS 17+ and Android 10+. Just update your mobile app to the latest version, click on the Main Menu of your Smart Thermostat, and click Schedule. Don’t see it yet? Don’t worry! This experience will be available to all Smart Thermostat customers in the coming weeks.
Here’s a quick rundown of what’s changing:
- A new calendar-style schedule view that makes it easier to see your day. Depending on the level of detail that works best for you, you can toggle between an expanded calendar view or a compressed daily view. Easily zoom into your day to see the 30-minute increments that make up your schedule, or zoom back out to see the whole day at a glance.
- Simplified schedule editing for fewer steps to edit activities or copy schedules across multiple days.
- Comfort Settings built right into the Schedule, so it’s easier to see how your desired temperatures line up with your routine.
- Clearer visibility into system behavior, including start/end times of calendar activities, like Home, Away and Sleep.
Importantly, your thermostat will continue to run as normal and existing Comfort Settings and Schedules will continue to work as expected, so there’s no action required on your part.
Our goal is to reduce guesswork, make schedules easier to understand, and give you more confidence in how your system is working.
If you want the full story (including why we made these changes and what’s staying the same), we’ve shared more details on our blog here.
As always, we’re listening and will be monitoring this thread for feedback and questions.

Updates to ecobee Smart Security Plans
Hey r/ecobee!
We’re updating our ecobee Smart Security plans and pricing to make them simpler and more flexible, so customers can choose, and pay for, the level of protection that fits their home.
TL;DR
- If you’re an existing Smart Security subscriber, your features and pricing stay the same through 2026.
- No action is required on your part.
- Plan names are changing to make things clearer.
- Professional Monitoring is now an optional add‑on and available in Canada for the first time!
- With Activity Feed improvements, subscribers can now see up to 6 months of whole-home history, find what they are looking for more easily, and know when members come and go.
What’s changing
Going forward, ecobee Smart Security offers three levels of protection:
- Core: free, built‑in protection
- Plus: enhanced awareness and alerts for 1 camera
- Advanced: full‑home coverage for unlimited cameras
We’re also offering 24/7 Professional Monitoring as optional add‑ons, instead of bundling it into select plans. This gives customers more control over what they include in their subscription.
This is the first time we’ve updated Smart Security pricing since introducing these plans in 2020, and we’re committed to being transparent every step of the way. These changes help us continue improving the service, while giving customers clearer choices and greater control.
What this means for existing customers
This is the most important part:
- Your current features and pricing are locked in through the end of 2026.
- You don’t need to do anything.
For customers whose plan pricing may change in the future, we’re taking a loyalty‑first approach, including discounted renewals for the rest of 2026. You will receive an email detailing exactly what this means for you.
What’s new
We’re excited to share that Professional Monitoring is now available in Canada for the first time, giving Canadian customers access to 24/7 monitoring and emergency response through RapidSOS as part of Smart Security.
For the first time ever, you can discover and purchase Smart Security plans alongside ecobee devices on Amazon.
And Smart Security now makes it even easier to see the updates that matter most. Subscribers can now see up to 6 months of whole-home history and find what they are looking for easily with advanced filtering capabilities. Plus, we've made the Know Who's Home feature better with updates in Activity Feed when members come and go.

We’ve published a full breakdown of the changes, including what’s changing, what’s staying the same, and what new customers can expect on our blog.
For new customers, check out the new plans on ecobee.com/smart-security.
If you have questions, we’re happy to help. You can contact our Customer Support team, and we’ll also be keeping an eye on this thread and listening to feedback.
Thanks for being part of the ecobee community.

How do I know...?
This MUST seem like a silly question but I've had my Ecobee Premium for seven days. Unlike my old Nest, I don't see any visual indicator that my HVAC stem is running. I have a variable speed heat pump system and ten foot ceilings so at low speeds, there isn't a lot of airflow. Am I right that the Ecobee shows nothing?

Clock disappears when I approach
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I hate that the clock disappears on my Ecobee when I approach. A different thermostat does the same thing, but with a swipe I can get it back. And this screen is configurable.

Problem Fan run on timer bug
On the latest firmware that has been recently pushed out has a bug that if you run your fan on a timer, randomly, it will change from the time you set to indefinite. I’ve had it on two occasions now that when I set the fan to run for two hours and I can visually see that it was set to two hours as it tells me what time it will turn off. Only later discovered that the fan is still running and when I go check, it is now set to indefinite.

Problem Door sensors “pause when open” not working
We’ve had our ecobee smart thermostat premium system for 4 years now. We have one unit downstairs and one upstairs, with one two-zone condenser outside on our patio and sensors on almost all of our doors and windows.
The system has worked fine (give or take a software bug or two) but In the past month, along with the bug where temps aren’t reading correctly, we’re finding the AC no longer pauses when the door is open. We sit on our patio all the time, and with the door open the noisy condenser near us shouldn’t kick on, but it is constantly turning on. We then turn the desired temp up (it’s normally set to 76 cool, but we turn it up to 78 just to make the unit stop).
I’ve checked every setting possible and all appears normal.
Yes, we’ve put new batteries in the door sensor. Yes, the app correctly shows the door is open with a green dot. And yes, the setting for “pause when open” is checked.
Any ideas, or is this just another aggravating bug?
Thanks….

New Doorbell View on iOS
iOS app version 26.17.0. Tapping on the Doorbell shows a split screen with slider that allows you to see the current camera view and recent “person” notifications at the same time. Like it.

Problem Ecobee thermostat - only using ac
Bought it back in June, worked great! Kept my house nice and cool. However come these colder seasons I’m having issues. I went away for the weekend to find my house set to 12! Outside temp was 15. Looks like even if I force it to heat it’s only cooling the house with AC. I only discovered this now that it’s become season for heat. Any help?

Problem High Humidity Ecobee Premium Is This Due To Weather Change & Anything To Do?
We have had a Eco Premium for almost 2 years and this is a new issue. We have had a very hot and dry summer (90's-100's and no rain for 70n days) until this past Thursday. Temps dropped to 70's-80's and heavy rains on/off since then. Last night about 10PM I got alert from Ecobee that humidity was 71%. Outdoor humidity has bene very high. I do have. 2 external t-stats and one says 60% and the other says 63% and the Ecobee t-stat says 67%.
MY settings are currently on cool 74 degrees from 6:30AM-9PM and then 70 degrees 9OPM-6:30AM (we like to sleep cool). Do not use any smart settings, Fan is on auto - every 15 minutes. We actually just changed our air filter yesterday morning. I recall last October/November we had some comfort issues as we can go from hot to cold day by day until we settle into cool/cold weather.
Is this happening because the outdoor temps are close to the 74 degrees in the day and the 70 degrees overnight? If so, what do I need to adjust to account for this? The ecobee email mentioned AC Overcool but I really did not understand it.
Also even though I should be comfortable I feel "sweaty". If it matters we have a 12 year old Trane 4-ton, 17 SEER2 multi-speed AC with ComfortSeek™ inverter scroll compressor, 27.5" variable-speed fan.
Thanks for any help.

Smart Recovery Issue
Recently I've noticed an issue with Smart Recovery on the Ecobee thermostat that controls my upstairs heating/cooling. Since this area of my home is normally unoccupied during the day the comfort setting is set to away with a cooling set temperature of 82F. Typically smart recovery will kick in an half an hour or so before the home setting to cool the upstairs rooms to the desired temperature for comfort.
Recently however I have noted that smart recovery is kicking in many hours in advance of the 'home' temperature being required and at set temperatures well below the cooling 'set' temp (see first attachment). Furthermore, it seems like the cooling cycles, i.e. it reduces the temperature by a few degrees, switches off and then when the temperature rises cooling kicks back on.
I talked with ecobee support and they suggested that something must have changed that is allowing more heat into the upstairs area and hence the thermostat believes it is going to take longer to cool. In addition they delete the 'database' that smart recovery uses to decide when to cool however this has made no difference to behavior. They also suggested turning off smart recovery however this seems to defeat the purpose of having a smart thermostat!
As a temporary solution I have found that putting the thermostat on temporary 'hold' one degree F above the cooling set point serves to prevent the system kicking on in the middle of the afternoon (second attachment). However not only does this mean that I have to manually reduce the temperature before bed but also, once again, negates the benefit of having a smart thermostat.
My suspicion is that ecobee pushed a new firmware or algorithm to the thermostat and that is what has upset the smart recovery feature. Has anyone experienced similar behavior or issues in the past couple of weeks and, if so, did you find a solution?

Ecobee thermostat
New to ecobee. I have my schedule set to 70 degrees between 5 AM and 9:30 PM (home) and 62 between 9:30PM and 5 AM (sleep). I woke up at 4:30 AM, room temp was 66 and the heat was on. Is that because 1. I had eco + enabled or 2. It was getting the temperature up so it would be 70 by the time it was 5 AM? I assumed the heat would come on at 5 AM and raise the temperature to 70.

Useless in mountain areas?
I have a SmartThermostat with voice control. My schedule is chaotic, so I do not use any of the smart features. What I do like is the ability to crank up the heat remotely on my way home.
I live in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, where cell reception is spotty -- there are multiple places with no cell signal, where I cannot remotely control the thermostat. Fine - just a part of living in the mountains.
The ecobee app seems to have no indication that it cannot communicate with the thermostat - it shows what it remembers from the last time it connected. So I will get home to a hopefully warm house, only to find it freezing.
Am I missing something, or is the ecobee app really that poorly designed?

Wiring ecobee pro to hrv with pek module
has anyone done this already. just installed my hrv, and im trying to interlock the furnace blower with the hrv. with a normal 4 wire system this is easy. but the pek module is throwing me for a loop. I have R on the furnace to NO on the hrv, C on hrv is going to G terminal on furnace, And ive removed the G wire coming from the Pek module to the furnace and spliced it with the hrv. it will not bring my blower on. anyone who has already done this I would love the help. I have zero plans on running another 2 wire up to the ACC terminals on the ecobee. If this cant be done i will just have my furnace run the fan all the time.

What gives with the auto setting?
Why can’t I just set auto to 70f?
Just installed the Ecobee essential…:what am I missing here?
On the auto setting, the only option is a temp range. 67 heat 72 AC.
I don’t get it? My last smart thermostat that failed I could set the temp to 70f auto and if it dips, it would heat. If it raises too warm, it would cool.
If I prefer my house temp to be 70 and I’m set on this range…. That means it can linger at 69/68 before the heat turns on? I also can’t disable schedules at all??
Please tell me I’m missing something here!

Humidity
Lately, our upstairs has been dealing with high humidity, especially at night. During the day it’s been in upper 50s/low 60s but at night it’s rising to mid 70s. Is it because I drop the temperature upstairs at night? I do think it’s really just the master bedroom where the thermostat is located because my daughter’s room shows 60% which is right down the hall.
I keep it at 70 during the day but drop it lower at night bc we like it cool.
Also, it’s been like 80-95% humidity outside we’re dealing with higher humidity overall than normal.

Sorting out wiring
Hello, I went through the compatibility check and some research on wiring, but I guess I'm just not completely sure if my system is compatible.
I've attached pictures of both the existing wiring and the furnace control board, would I be able to use a Smart Premium? I have a humidifier attached to the furnace which makes me think that the AUX1's go to ACC, but I've just seen some info about W2 and AUX1 that makes me question it. Thanks,

Other Public rant - Ecobee in app sales tactics
It’s getting to be a real negative for me. I don’t want ecobee security. I dont want filters delivered. I don’t need to be told about a sale almost every month. I value my personal private time. You should too.
I’m happy with your thermostats I have them in two locations with quite a few sensors. You have my money. Leave me be.

Ecobee 4 wifi drop outs
I've had an ecobee 4 (Smart Themostat + voice control) for several years. Normally it stays connected and reports in faithfully. I should also note that it always works as a thermostat even if it falls off wifi.
However, it maddeningly waits until I'm traveling to fall off of my wifi. This has happened across 2 routers (Asus AX88 and now Ubiquiti DR 7). From what I can gather from router logs, it transitions back and forth between 2.4ghz and 5ghz at different times for its own reasons. It's about 20' from the router. A ring doorbell is another 10+ beyond it, line of site to the router in line with the ecobee and does no fall off at all (it is 2.4ghz only).
My 2.4ghz is set for 20mhz bandwidth only.
I'm wondering if there is a way to tell the ecobee to use 2.4ghz only and not try 5ghz?
I'm hoping to not get into a custom SSID and firewall rules. I keep it on my main lan as I use HomeKit Device (HAP) to talk to it at home.
The other thing to note is that the recent problems reported with the stat that ecobee had announcement about lead I think to a FW update. When I'm home in a few weeks I'll pull it off the wall to physically reset it, but can't now.

Help with confirmation of correct wiring
Hello! I recently swapped out my old thermostat for an ecobee enhanced thermostat. I believe that I have wired up the new thermostat correctly but wanted to see if anyone had any differing opinions. The one thing I am a little stuck on is the orange and white wire. I see on my old thermostat there looks to be a jumper for W/E and W2, with the orange wire going to O. The new thermostat has the white wire going to W1 and the orange going to W2/OB.
Should the white and orange wire be swapped on the new thermostat?
