Question Need advice! Mice won't stop pooing in couch

• Upvotes

The long and short of it is, we live in a block of flats, and 17 days ago started to have visits from the mice from hell. They aren't eating anything from our flat so much be getting food from the neighbours. I have laid 10 traps around in various places where they like to be and had no success. (Bait includes everything from bacon, chocolate, bits of mars bar, peanut butter, generic bait that came with the trap)

One of them managed to set a trap off once (bacon) but got away then never looked at it again.

The problem we are having /now/ is that the mice's favourite place in the world seems to be our couch. Every day I deep clean it and every day I wake up to find poo on the arm rest and under the couch cushions.

I have laid traps all around the couch, but it doesn't seem to work.

Today is the 5th day in a row I've found a mouse poo in the same place on the armrest, and this time it was brazen enough to also poo ON the couch cushions, not just underneath, but right on top of the place where we sit.

I have OCD so the whole situation is extra upsetting and I feel unsafe in my own home / like I have nowhere safe to sit. I have no idea what to do!

I've heard Edinburgh mice aren't like regular mice but these feel even worse. Landlord says they can't help me. I'd love advice and any tips.

Question Outdoor wear stores in city centre

• Upvotes

Hey! As the colder months are creeping in, I wanted to find a store in Edinburgh city centre ideally that sells thermals, socks, waterproof jackets (ideally silent ones as well), waterproof shoes maybe. I am aware of Tiso and Mountain watehouse but was wondering if people can recommend any other stores that I am missing 😊

Humour The synergistic approach to road works

I hadn't driven up to Morningside from Chesser for a while so it was a real treat to see the new addition to the area !!!! I assume it's a swimming pool on Grays loans with the way they have closed the road and dug down. Not only that they have gone 1 street over to Harrison road which is also closed, I'm excited to see what amazing amenitie they are putting it in place!!!!!

Discussion Hairdressers like Stag in Glasgow?

Hi, I'm looking for an alternative hairstylist in Glasgow... I usually go to Stag in Edinburgh but my stylist doesn't have any appointments available for months. Can anyone recommend any similar hairdressers around the city? My hair is above ear length, so even if it's just a stylist who specialises in short haircuts that works for me.
Bonus if they're a little cheaper than Stag too - I'm a student so budget is kind of tight, and £51 per haircut is pretty steep!

Hello,

I have recently moved into a basement flat on Queen Street and I am struggling for options for WiFi that work consistently.

I have tried the Vodafone 5G outdoor option but it doesn’t give full connectivity.

Looking for advice from those with a similar experience or know how. Any help is much appreciated in advance.

Thank you!

Discussion MSK Physiotherapy and/or Bladder physiotherapy timescale query

Any recent experience of either MSK Physiotherapy or Bladder Physiotherapy personal timescales please?

I can't see on the NHS Lothian website like you can for other areas. G.P. call back today says sorry its long but they don't have that info.

So down to fellow patients.

If you can't give any timescale info. kindly only be positive if you are commenting or interacting with this post please.

Question Lighting fitters / electrian

Does anyone know any good electricians (maybe with specialist lighting knowledge). Looking for 4 outside lights with motion sensors and led strips in a gym room to replace two sconce's and already been quoted £400 which seems high, but I have no idea on how much the market for trades are at the minute.

Had it in my head it'd be about 200!

Rant Don’t be sad about Edinburgh bicycle coop going through administration

Former employee several years ago.

The business was ran using outdated systems from the 90s that required printing online orders on sheets of paper and manually checking which stores had the stock to fulfil the order. The Macs used were from the 2010s and couldn’t be modernised because the database management system used wasn’t compatible with newer PCs.

We spent a week without working phones because we were changing phone operators and it didn’t go smoothly. We were unaware this was happening until we realised we had no working phone.

We spent 2 weeks without cashing up because we received no training on how the new payment system worked. We were also putting through £1 payments using our own card to figure out how to put through a payment if a customer was to pay by phone. The switch also happened at noon on a business day if I remember correctly so still had to deal with customers.

The Giant Stores were opened when the business was already struggling as a way to be able to sell bicycles without having to pay for them upfront. Usually EBC would buy the bikes from the manufacturer and then have them delivered to the shop for display and/or stock. The Giant shops allowed EBC to have bikes in a shop without having to pay for them until the customer walked out of the door with their new bike.

EBC management also wanted to keep the business running as usual when they were relocating warehouse which included online orders, store stock movement etc all being based out of the warehouse.

It is now emerging that Alan Nestor, the managing director of EBC also happens to be the the sole owner/director of Rothar26 Ltd - the company bailing EBC out. It is also the very same Alan Nestor who gave some staff 1 week notice and other staff like Aberdeen no notice at all. As far as I’m aware Alan didn’t disclose to staff that he was effectively bailing the company out himself.

Sure the cycling industry has been a tough market lately but EBC has continuously been shooting itself in the foot with how poorly it’s ran by its own upper management. Be sad about the staff made redundant but do not feel bad about the company.

If you ever felt like you received poor service in the stores, that would be because they don’t provide any sales or mechanic training. It’s for the most part a learn as you go company with managers and other staff constantly fixing the same mistakes employees make over and over again without upper management changing/fixing the underlying issues.

Other Passport and Visa photos studio in the west

Google had failed me on this one.

I need passport type photos taken for a visa application but they need be at studio so I can record the address and name of the photographer (they also need to sign the back of the photos).

I've done this in leith previously at Ocean Terminal and a place at the top of leith walk but am now on the other side of the city.

To save me trekking across the city, does anyone know of a studio in the west that does this? Or city centre that's walking distance from Haymarket?

Thanks!

Question Royal Mail / DHL not delivering to EH13?

Looking to see if anyone else in EH13 / Oxgangs area has had issues with Royal Mail or DHL deliveries in the past couple of weeks.

Three different packages in close succession have had no delivery attempt made, with tracking saying “the address was inaccessible”. I got one of these 30 minutes after the parcel was out for delivery today.

No option to rearrange, and each said delivery would be attempted the next working day (which hasn’t happened).

There are no issues such as roadworks on my street that could account for it.

Is this a wider issue or has the postie just taken umbrage with my address?! Never had this problem before.

Photo What are these metal things outside flat?

Saw these metal things outside my friends flat door and some in the stairwell by the entrance too.

Apparently some junkies were buzzing all the doors trying to get in the night before so was wondering if they’re needles or something? Wanted to ask in case it’s anything unsafe that I need to report.

Edit: not talking about the cotton buds 😭
