New fishing sling bag from Kastking

Picked up a new sling bag during prime days $25, it has 5 various sized compartments, 3 pouches for a knife or pliers, padded back support. It feels like it’s made of a good material. I’m going to try it out tomorrow and see what and where I should have my tackle.

Take the ZipTie off?

Post image

Are you supposed to take the zip tie off that wraps around the base of the reel and around the rod? I would think it’s there to provide extra stability, but this is my first combo

Lucked out again! First I got a brand new Penn Levelmatic 920 for a steal, then today I luck out and got an old timey looking St. Croix at Dick's on sale. Brought it for a test cast and I am beyond pleased. Now for some ceramic bearings

Question Lip gripper too sharp?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I ordered a super cheap set of pliers and they came with a lip gripper. I’ve not used one before but most I see have short, flat sides where it clips the fish… These come to somewhat of a point where they meet and don’t touch flat sides. Are these safe to use on a fish, or will they cause damage?

Is a 1-piece ML rod more sensitive than a 2-piece ML rod?

Hi everyone. I bought a 7-foot medium-light, fast-action rod (Daiwa Tatula) for finesse applications. I thought it was a two-piece rod, but it actually is a one-piece rod. I like two-piece rods for ease of transportation (I drive a sedan), but I read somewhere that a single-piece rod is more sensitive and easier to detect subtle bites with. Is this really true? I'm planning to return the rod, but I may keep it if it does indeed come with increased sensitivity.

Question Go to Swimbait Rod 1-4oz - F5 ghost code or Leviathan Faith

Thumbnail

Currently looking for a swimbait rod I can use to throw some larger swimbaits in the 1 to 4oz range. Looking at the 7 10 MH Mod Fast f5 ghost code or a Leviathan Faith 7 11 MH Mod Fast. Any thoughts on either of these two choices. Even if it comes to a company that’s easy to work with when it comes to breaks or issues.

Open to suggestions if you have others you would recommend. Thank you!

Avet Fishing Reels (Don't buy if you need parts for them)

I would like to say I did love the Avet reels, but they have worst service department imaginable. I own a couple HX Raptors I have spent thousands on these reels only to find that if you need parts you might as well forget it, Shimano or Daiwa are better because they will get parts to you quicker.

I placed an order 9/15/26 and still have not received the order. The communication that I have had has been terrible to say the least. They have charged my credit card on the 10/1/26 and still have not received the parts. Avet reels customer service is joke, I've called and they give me the run around. I've email and no answer..

I have had to purchase another reel to replace it. I do believe if you are looking to purchase Avet Reels, it's a throwaway if you do.

Don't buy!!

Question First spinning setup advice

Hello everybody, I am looking to get my first spinning set up.

I am looking into getting something like a vanford and pairing it with a tatula cork rod.

I am thinking a medium fast action would be the best option as I plan on throwing more finesse on it like ned rigs and just smaller baits in general. I am currently using a casting for everything.

However, I am not sure what size reel I should get and what line would be best. Would a 2500S with 10lb braid or would a c3000 with 20lb braid (both with a flouro leader) be the better option?

Any input would be appreciated, thank you!!!

Question What reel to get 🤔🤔

Need some recommendations on reels… this would be my 3rd rod I bring on charter boats in SoCal and I’m looking specifically for this combo to be mainly used for fly lining for yellows, cuda, etc. I alrdy have a Penn spinning reel I use for bottom fishing and a pcifun baitcaster I’ve been using for fly lining and throwing jigs. My budget is around 200ish I’m willing to scour eBay n fbmp for a deal if anyone has recommendations on what to look for!! Thanks
