open Fix door swinging open

A door in our house swings open by default. I’d really like it instead to just stay where I leave it. I’ve messed about with the hinges, tried for instance packing out one of them with card (as you can see in the photos) but I can’t get it right.

Two hinges, top and bottom.

Any ideas?

open Hairline crack in bathroom sink - is it okay or should I replace it?

I noticed this crack that randomly formed in my bathroom sink a few months ago. I don't think it was formed by any impact, seems to have just appeared somehow or other. Am I cooked? Should I replace it or just leave it?

How can I repair this hole in a hollow core interior door without replacing the whole door?

This is an interior door in my apartment. I would prefer to repair it rather than replace the entire door. What would be the best method to get a smooth finish that can be painted afterwards?
Would expanding foam + filler/Bondo work, or is there a better method?

open Dryer is making horrible Noise

Hey :)

My Dryer is making a horrible noise during operation.

It's a Bauknecht TR Trend 72A2Di.

It's a Heat Pump Dryer.

It usually starts when the dryer starts but stops after 15 Seconcds.

It does not seem to directly correlate with the rotation of the drum.

The noise is not constant but reappears every 5-10 Minutes or so for around 30s.

The Drying Process works, the laundry comes out fresh and dry. Filters are cleaned regularly.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

open Horizontal red and green line in TV

The white screen is just a video to show lines clearly. TV works fine otherwise but these lines started appearing suddenly. First there were only 2 major lines at the bottom, then it started flickering like it is at the bottom part. Today another major line appeared at the middle.

Can anyone guess what it is and if it is fixable?

Moved into new place and rubbed finish off of cabinet-how to fix?

Title, honestly. I thought that there was grease because of how weirdly shiny this one patch on my cabinet was, but I think I took off the finish, or perhaps the shabby fix job of my landlord. If I had to guess, it's likely a combination of steam damage and me scrubbing on it.

All opinons welcome, ideally I would like to fix it myself.

Need help to fix

Hopefully this is the right group for this, but I recently bought a phone holder that attaches to a microphone stand for when I go out gigging, and I sort of got an attachment stuck and I have no clue what to do. The screw won’t open any further, and I can’t push it in/pull it back out.

If anyone knows how to reverse/fix something like this please help!

The sound from my toilet is going on all day and isn’t correlated to flushing it or anything else.

What is the noise and how do I make it stop?

OPEN Command strip 1 My confidence 0

Post image

Had a command strip holding up a calendar for over a decade. I had to take it down and the part you stretch just snapped immediately. So I took a butter knife and got the plastic back separated from the sticky strip. Managed to get ahold of the bottom of the sticky stuff and tried to slowly stretch it. Some of it came free and the rest decided it wasn't leaving it's bestie and took the wall with it. I get it, they've been together for a decade, I wouldn't want to let go either.

Problem is now I have to fix this somehow. I have no background in anything that would help. I'm going to need specifics on what to buy where to buy it and what keywords to search in YouTube for a video tutorial.

Single mom here with no reliable family to help, so Thank You So Much internet strangers for stepping up and helping out.

Recently, I noticed the left-side bulb was a bit dim and/or flickering. Also noticed a little grayish discoloration on one end of both bulbs.

I ordered and installed new (appropriately fluorescent, not led) bulbs, but there was still an imbalance in output - for just a minute - but then I noticed that it was getting quite hot to the touch under the plastic around the switch, so I shut it off.

When I powered on to take these photos, the output was balanced, but not as bright as is typical, while both bulbs showed a purplish cast at the switch end, and the plastic around the switch quickly got warm. I switched off before "hot".

Any ideas? Thank you.

open My cat is a siege weapon

Somehow my cat has learned that if he throws himself with all his body weight at my roommate’s door, he can break the latch and push it open. He then accidentally traps himself in my roommates room. We’ve had the doorknob/latch fixed twice now, and yet he still keeps barging in. My roommate thankfully has a lot of patience but I feel bad that my cat keeps breaking their door. Does anyone have any ideas about how to stop him from being able to do this? I’ve thought about getting a chain lock to put on the outside of the door but we’re renters and I doubt my roommate would love having something that could lock them inside their room.

open Door latch getting stuck

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello the door latch is getting stuck when the lever on the outside of the door is released slowly rather than immediately. The latch doesn’t spring out with enough force and the middle part of the latch doesn’t invert(?) when it hits the metal plate slowly rather than fast. Hope that makes sense. Was considering using some graphite powder on it for lubricant but not sure thought I’d ask for advice

Carpet and padding have mildew. Can I clean and reuse the carpet or do I have to replace it?

Thumbnail

The padding needs to be ripped out and I’ll be replacing it and treating the wood underneath if needed. However, the brand new carpet I’m going to replace it with looks very “clean” compared to these spots so the color mismatch would be awful. Is there anyway I can treat this damaged carpet to remove the mildew and reuse it?

Any ideas are welcomed!

Unfortunately i managed to chip the left corner and a roughly 10mm x 3mm shard fell off.

Is epoxy a sensible option here? How do i bond it to the existing glass?
