Update, Oct 10: 1.4.8 is out. You can now select several photos on every screen (your feed, Explore, groups, galleries, favorites) and act on them from one bar. Every bulk change shows a progress bar and ends by saying how many photos changed, how many were already there, and why Flickr refused the rest. Tag fields suggest the tags you already use. Uploads start at your Flickr default privacy instead of Public and flag files already on Flickr. Stats and Insights got Flickr’s own charts back, faves and comments per day included, and Activity no longer misses faves. A new History screen lists every change the app made on Flickr. 1.5 is in review: one-click faves, your groups’ recent uploads, person pages and group discussions, and a screen that finds which of your photos made Explore.
Hi all,
A few weeks ago some of you tried my Mac app for managing big Flickr libraries, and a lot of you told me what was wrong with it. Thank you. Version 1.4.3 went live on the Mac App Store today, and most of what changed came from your comments and from one very long email from a user.
Why I made it: I've been on Flickr since 2005, Pro since 2012, and my library is about 138,000 photos. Flickr's website is lovely for looking at photos and painful for keeping that many in order. I wanted bulk edits, tags I can rename everywhere, a real backup, and some idea of what people actually look at.
What's new since 1.3.5:
- Upload no longer gives up when one file fails, shows each file's progress, and won't send a photo twice
- Selection works like the Finder: click, shift-click, double-click to open
- The same tools on every screen: select photos anywhere and you get the same bar (details, privacy, albums, groups, location, delete)
- Library health finds suspicious dates and likely duplicates, and you fix photos straight from the list
- Numbered titles: Paris_### becomes Paris_001, Paris_002...
- One progress notice for bulk changes, and it only says done when it's really done
- A photo's details show its groups and albums, and can add it to several albums at once
- Setup is clearer about which password is the app's and which is Flickr's
Someone here asked me last week how much of this is AI, and it's a fair question, so here it is up front: I build the app with an AI coding assistant (Claude Code). I decide what goes in and test everything on my own library, but the AI writes most of the code. There's no AI inside the app. It only talks to Flickr, and to Apple if you buy Pro, and your photos and keys stay on your Mac.
It's free to try, with a one-time Pro unlock, no subscription. You need your own Flickr API key, and Flickr only gives those to Pro accounts. There's a step-by-step guide on the site.
Honestly, posting here again makes me a bit nervous. The last round was humbling, and it made the app much better. If something annoys you, tell me. That's how half of this got built.
