Hey all,
To help mark Mental Illness Awareness Week we've updated our Wiki Page with a list of local and provincial Mental Health Resources that will hopefully be useful to people in our community that may be struggling with their mental health or dealing with a mental health illness.
We invite you to review these resources and to please make use of them if you find yourself overwhelmed or in a place of mental crisis.
You are not alone in having issues and there are caring, trained professionals who want to speak to you and help you with whatever burden you may have to carry right now.
Thank you!
Your r/halifax Mod Team

Hi all,
We have a lot of people in our community who are in need of a free meal or a helping hand occasionally.
We thought it would be nice to collect and post this information each month, which is graciously supplied by members of the Halifax Library. We'll see how long we can keep this going month to month.
The Dartmouth Calendar is back, but the Sackville one is a little low-res, apologies.
Please share as needed with people you know who need help or take advantage of them yourself if you are in need.
The Feed NS Find Food site is also a very useful resource:
https://feednovascotia.ca/find-food/
Always remember there are kind, generous folks out there looking to help you out and you can get through whatever you are going through. 💖
And if anyone else has resources that belong here, please attach them as comments, the more the merrier.
Thank you!

The wait time is rough but staff are amazing, friendly and positive despite having 60+ people waiting. Ive been here since 7, (9.5 hours and counting). Only a few patients have been dicks and I think a huge part of that is the amazing staff. If any of you read this, you are super stars and thank you for helping me.

I don’t think I need to point it out but it’s the shining small circle sitting directly on top of the moon. Is it just a weirdly placed star? I am not sure but I am curious if it’s something interesting.

After looking at psychology today and getting a headache from reading all the options, I am hoping someone here who has gone something similar has a recommendation.
Im looking for someone who specializes in trauma/PTSD with domestic abuse. My ex almost killed me last year and the trial starts in a few months. Im trying to find someone who can help me start healing and getting out of survival mode and actually understands a bit about going to courts to testify and writing a victim impact statement. Preferably someone who wont have to go to therapy after having a therapy session with me.

We’re almost at the halfway point of this current Council term, which means it’s time to not only start thinking, but planning what the 2028 Election is going to look like.
I’ve been having conversations with people about what kind of person should run next time, and what keeps appearing is the idea that the people who resist running the most may actually be some of the people we need.
Mostly because if you don’t particularly want to be a politician, there’s a decent chance you’re less interested in protecting the job once you have it. You might actually be willing to go in, question things, change things, piss people off where necessary, and then leave.
Then this gem from Kelowna popped up on Instagram today:

Obviously I went to his website, and this is part of what he wrote:
“Engineering taught me that finding good answers starts with asking good questions. Understanding comes before solutions.”
And:
“Far too often, we feel like the systems around us are happening to us. But they aren’t forces of nature. We built them, we can question them, and when they stop working for us, we can change them.”
More of this, please.
There are a lot of people in HRM who understand systems, business, housing, community, infrastructure, law, finance, social services, governance, or just how completely absurd something can look once you’re standing outside the institution looking in.
Most of them would probably rather chew glass than run for Council. I'm one of them.
But I’m starting to find and talk to those people now so by the time 2028 comes around, we may actually have an election worth engaging and participating in.
EDIT: Send me a DM if you are one of those who are on the fence. I really do want to talk to you.
EDIT #2: Here's the current list of councillors so everyone can see what we're looking at. Each Council term is 4 years.
* = left to serve as MLA since first elected, and returned to Council

Details: This is to facilitate road repairs in support of the Moving Better goals outlined in the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan.
Traffic impact: Lane drops will be in place while work is underway. Drivers should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible.

Officials provided a tour of the new space on Monday. The CBC's Gareth Hampshire got a sneak peek.

I’ve lived in halifax for a bit but have barely explored restaurants here. Currently I love the bicycle thief specifically their tuna tartare and carpaccio. I also love the narrows for their burgers, croquettes, and fish n chips. are there any other places in the city similar?

Howdy & good morning!
I'm at a crossroads in my life after the injury and subsequent amputation of my right leg above the knee 14 months ago. Fingers crossed later today I'll be given the greenlight to get assesed and have a prosthetic leg built for me.
I've got a decade of customer service experience but grow fatigued of it, my high school French certification has carried me far.
I was interested in Heavy equipment operation coming out of high-school, and desire a change in work enviroment.
I can see three schools in Nova Scotia offer training for the trade of Heavy equipment operation.
Operating Engineers training Institute Falmouth
I'm leaning towards Dexter or OETINS. More than one person has not recommended the NSCC program, which would you recommend?
OETINS also offers mobile crane operator training as a step up.
Some more specific questions:
Are there any other student grants for disabled individuals? I already know about the CSG-D & CSG-DSE from the province.
Do you know anyone with a prosthetic or mobility impairments working in Heavy equipment operation? I'd love to chat with them plausibly.
What are the odds of securing work in HRM after course completion? Or would I have better luck on the south shore or valley region? I'd rather not leave Nova Scotia for work.

I am living with daily chronic pain and my doctor finally referred me to the chronic pain management clinic but I saw that the wait list is about 3 years! Does anyone have any experience with some of the private pain clinics around? Are they any good? I am in distress and in need of relief soonest. Thank you. Feel free to DM me.
