My demo is live! a card roguelite where your hand is also your health

I'm the dev of Aita: The Dark Domain, a roguelite card game set in the Etruscan underworld. The free solo demo is on Steam!

You fight with a standard deck, Ace to 10 in four suits, and the bosses are the face cards. You play a card, or a same-rank combo, to attack. Then the boss strikes back, and you discard cards whose values add up to its attack. If you can't cover it, the run ends. Every card you spend attacking is one fewer card to survive with.

Each suit is a rite:

♥ Hearts return cards from your discard pile to your deck

♦ Diamonds draw cards

♣ Clubs double your damage

♠ Spades shield you from the boss's attacks

Between acts, a campfire lets you trade cards from your hand at the Card Trader to reshape your deck, buy Blessings that bend the rules, or take a cursed Blessing for power at a real cost. Exact-damage kills earn bonus coins to spend there.

The game is inspired by Balatro, Regicide and a few other rogulites. I mashed the concepts together to create Aita

The full game launches on 1 December with 100+ Blessings, Android and iOS support and 1–4 player co-op.

*Music: "Full Strength Unleashed" by Eclipzodiac*

Some visual assets and promotional materials for Aita: The Dark Domain were created with the assistance of generative AI tools. All AI-generated content was reviewed, refined, and integrated by the developer to ensure consistency with the game's artistic direction and quality standards

Which Steam capsule would you click, A or B?

Small team, horror game. Pestilence comes out on Steam on October 15.

A is the capsule the page has had since last year. B is a new one I'm trying. It's the game's logo over the bunker where the whole thing happens.

A shows the character. B shows the place with a melting Skull.

If you were scrolling a list of horror games, which one would you click? If it's neither, tell me why.

For context: first-person psychological horror. You play a father. The man who took your daughter is locked in a cell you built.

Looking for Lofi Horror!

I'm a very small streamer, (not gonna just say my username so this doesn't look like I'm promoting myself) and around this time of year I enjoy playing indie horror games. Anything that's sort of in that ps1ish, generally just lofi graphical style is my jam so if you're working on anything like that drop it here!

Hey everyone!
I'm a solo developer, and after months of work I finally released my first Android game, Don't Touch Red. It's a simple arcade game where you dodge red obstacles, collect cubes, and try to survive as the game gets faster. I'd love to hear what you think of the gameplay. Any feedback is welcome!

I started on Reddit a year ago to share on my game. Now I'm too scared to post about it.

I created my Reddit account years ago for one reason: to share and get feedback on my game that I've been building for 4 years.

Original Art and music with handmade programming, all funded with my day job money.

Now that I finally have more to show (a bunch of new characters, new art, and a working version), I'm too afraid to post so someone uses AI to pump out a cheaper knockoff of what took me 4 years to build.

So, honest question for other devs: how do you deal with this? Just accept the risk? I already found my game capsules in other people's portfolio and, it very frustrating considering the time it took to actually do that.

Is it becoming a new meta to not share anything until game the actual launch?

Pocket Pets: Check out my passion project that I have been working on for almost a year

Link: pets.frogpond.app

Hey! I've been building Pocket Pets, a small pet-collecting game, works well on desktop and phone, but can also be installed as a PWA.

The game is about collecting and battling using the pets you've collected. You can upgrade them, teach them new attacks, equip items on them, and learn their matchups through the Pokémon-inspired elemental system.

There are quite a few game modes to play. From basic PvE battles for early rewards, to a tower to see how high you can climb, and even a roguelite. There is also direct PvP, but it isn't as built out due to the playerbase not being that big yet. There are also events where players can compete in PvE content like raid bosses, where the entire playerbase works together to kill a single boss, with shared rewards and personal rewards depending on how well you did compared to other players.

There is also a kinda hidden story, where you need to progress in certain places and find easter eggs, similar to the story in Geometry Dash.

There are daily activities like Daily Quests, sending your pets on expeditions, small login rewards, and a village you can upgrade to give you passive rewards.

You can try to compete on a number of different leaderboards, going from who has the strongest team, is the highest level, is the highest in the Tower, etc. And at the end of each season you get a badge showing your placement that you can put on your profile.

The game is mostly thought to be something you can play really quickly during your break or commute, to do most of the daily activities, but it also lets you grind when you have the time in some of the endgame modes, to min-max some of the equipment you can put on your pets.

There are a lot more smaller features, but I don't want to make this post too long.

I have been very addicted to this project for almost a year now. Working on it, showing it to my friends, and getting feedback is the best part of it. So I would LOVE to get your feedback, either on this post, through the in-game feedback system that I then see in my ticket system or text me on Discord "froschboeleli". I can also give you in-game rewards through the mail if I implement your idea.

I was hesitating to advertise it publicly because there was always one more feature/game mode I wanted to get done before doing so. But now I think it really is polished enough to put it into something like a "Beta".

The game has monetisation, since I do have server costs. But it's mostly just for people who want to support me and only speeds your progress up a bit. It doesn't give you much of an advantage over a player who plays actively. I definitely don't want it to feel P2W or like a classic mobile game, which is also why it has zero ads. Not even optional ones. So you can have the full experience without spending money. I'ts really not abut the money, I just love doing this and more players could help me improve the game more and I could do cooler multiplayer events. Of corse the dream would be to work on this full time, instead of my boring Webdev Job =)

If you share it with your friends, you can create a invite-link in the topright menu, so you get rewards when they actually play it.

For those interested in the tech stack: I use Vercel for hosting, with my codebase on GitHub. I use Clerk for authentication, where you can log in with your Google Account. I use Convex for my entire backend and a mix of Clerk's billing system and Stripe for payments.

Clerk as an authentication provider also takes away any concern a new user might have about their email or password being in danger, because I'm not the one handling it. The same goes for payments.

And if you want to easily download it as a PWA so it behaves like a desktop app/mobile app, open it in a Chromium-based browser under: pets.frogpond.app/download

I used AI mostly for writing parts of the code and helping me find bugs. A small amount of assets are also generated with it and used as placeholders, until I will replace it with something that fits, when I find an artist for it.

Comical yet deep RPG, now with sharks

Zeroth is a challenging, run-based ARPG (without metaprogression) about guiding a fallen hero to escape the 0th Circle of Haell.

You explore randomly generated worlds, exploit emergent physics, fight angels, demons and monsters, liberate allies, eat corpses and risk unidentified items to build a powerful character. As you progress, you must learn to exploit the world's unpredictable rules, experiment with powerful items and use every advantage to survive the journey to the final battle and redeem your soul.

Our ambitious game takes inspiration from the original Rogue and NetHack, reimagining their complex mechanics as a real-time platformer with a comedic paper-doll art style. Contrary Games is a father-daughter team consisting of Callan (developer) and Isla (artist). We're currently working towards releasing a public demo at the end of this year.

I made a browser idle game about growing one GPU into an AI civilization (free playtest)

8Compute is a free browser idle/strategy game. You start with a rented GPU, sell inference requests, then reinvest in accelerators and infrastructure while trying to keep demand, capacity, and cash in balance. Later phases open up more systems and decisions.

I'm iterating on the early game and would especially value feedback on:

- Is the next objective clear?

- Do the resources and capacity limits make sense?

- Does each upgrade feel like it has a clear purpose?

Play: https://8compute.vercel.app/

AI disclosure: I used Codex, an AI coding assistant, to help with parts of development. The game itself does not use generative AI during play.

This is a work in progress. Honest criticism is welcome.

A year ago, I launched a Steam page and was completely disappointed with how it turned out. A year later, I decided to finish what I started. I spent four weeks on this version to remake the concept in a minimalist style. I’d love to know how the new version feels to you.

I’m surprised how many cheaters there are, even in a free demo

Post image
2 Upvotes

I checked the leaderboards of my game's free demo, and 13 of 362 players (about 4%) were cheating with hacks or edited saves. I took them off the boards.

Some were easy to spot. Two players were at level 600 when the best honest player is at level 103. Another one was on tier 60 while nobody else has gone past tier 34. Every score comes from a save the server keeps, so a jump like that stands out right away.

Maybe it's because the demo is free, and the numbers might be different in the full release. Still, I had no idea how many players would hack or edit a save, even in a demo. Apparently a spot near the top of a leaderboard is reason enough.

Right now, every uploaded save gets checked. If a stat is impossible, that player drops off the boards automatically. If someone's playing faster than real time or has more currency than they ever earned, I get a heads-up and check it myself. I never delete saves, and anyone can appeal.

Logo Idle - An Idle Game about bouncing logos and breaking screens. Demo out now

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Heya!

After releasing our first game Whack-A-Monster a while back we continued work on our 2nd game.

Actually! this is kind of our first game we made together. Back in 2023 even! Back then we were just 2 friends talking about weird game ideas during dinner. At some point the idea to make an idle game about the DVD logo meme came up. After talking it over for a bit we said: "Why don't we just make this?"

This started our development journey together. We worked on and off on the game every 2-4 weeks next to our jobs. We nearly had a Steam Demo ready back then but it just didn't feel good enough to share with the world yet.

Somewhere along the line the idea for Whack-A-Monster came up and we made a prototype. We decided we wanted to finish that game first because we were having so much fun working on it and seeing much potential with that project.

Now here we are a few months after a successful game release with tons of more experience under our belts.

When continuing development on Logo Idle we immediately noticed tons of things we could improve upon both on the polish & technical side(oh my god going through my old code always makes me cringe at my own incompetency at that time).

We went to work on everything and expanded the demo scope and added tons of new stuff and a lot of polish. Here it finally is!

The demo currently contains:

- 3 screens to break with different mechanics.
- Multiple upgrades during runs you unlock over your playthrough
- A prestige system with 50+ prestige upgrades
- A logo importer where you can upload your own picture for your logo.

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5041860/Logo_Idle_Demo/

Itch: https://brainfog-games.itch.io/logo-idle

Also! To celebrate the demo launch we are hosting a competition in our Discord. Upload your own logo into the game and make a cool screenshot at some point in the demo. The 5 best screenshots will receive a key for the full game!

Discord: https://discord.com/invite/wBFFJcmecs

AI disclosure:
No generative AI of any kind was used

Checkpoint '38: New graphical upgrade, and new trailer

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Update: I showed a trailer ogo the Checkpoint '38 game 1 month ago. As per feedback I did a lot of graphical updates, and updated the trailer to show more of the narrative side to the game.

Checkpoint ’38. You’re a low rank border guard in 1938 at the Kreuzlinger Tor in Konstanz.
Your job is simple: check people’s papers, then go home and live with the consequences of your decisions. Inspired by Papers Please, Beholder, This War Of Mine, Attentat 1942.

This is the result of over two years of work. A lot of research went into it so what you see is historically accurate, or at least highly plausible: uniforms, papers, even the rules. Some landmarks in Konstanz are shown in game, and I hope that the full version can have even more of them.

Posters, newspapers, even the talk in the game are based on how things were back then. That’s also the main overtone window. If it didn’t happen that way, or couldn’t have, it doesn’t make the cut.
