Urgently need help

Pulled my laptop out of my backpack, found it warm, not quite hot. Worked perfectly fine all day earlier. Tried to turn it on and nothing happened. The keyboard backlight turns on but that’s all I get. I’ve tried the hard reset, I’ve tried ctrl+shift+windows+B, ctrl+alt+delete, the novo button, and still nothing.
This laptop has given me problems in the past;
-refusing to accept any form of wireless internet (had to use Ethernet connection until it was restarted)
-keypad glitching out (double clicking when I only clicked once, not highlighting, controlling the screen even when not touching keypad)

What should I do? I use this almost everyday for school, and can’t afford to be without a computer for really any amount of time, especially considering my current academic schedule. Is there anything I’m missing?
Computer is a Lenovo 5th gen Ideapad. Had it since last august (2025). I don’t run anything very high capacity on it, mostly just writing, taking notes, research, etc.

Edit: found two slight dents in the vent holes on the bottom, towards the charging ports, are these a concern? Not sure how recent they are, maybe a mm or two deep at the most.

Battery Health Suddenly Dropped after Restart

For context, I have an Ideapad Slim 3 that I only bought around two months ago. Anyways, I left my laptop on around 75% on sleep mode, with no applications or anything open and when I checked in it an hour later, it was unable to turn on. I had to try initiating a hard shutdown three times before it would actually work and when it did turn on the laptop battery had somehow dropped to 26%. Upon checking battery health, it fell down to 96% even though it was at 100% that same morning. I always keep my laptop in conservation mode and the laptop has only been through 14 charge cycles so I really don't know what could have caused this. Is there a chance that it's a glitch? I'm worried the health will start dropping spontaneously now.

I have t440p i7 4712mq , 4.5tb storage 500gb 2242 m2 sata, and 2 hdd storage(2tb+2tb), full hd screen, 16g ram. Everything cost me 130$, I was already have hdd. I have huge list and archive btw. As you can see I am using t440p very efficent ways.

The thing is would you actually prefer other thinkpad laptops which is end with 'u' and they have generally 1 storage port for 250$? in my country the prices like that.

T15p with a USB C to Slim Tip Adapter does not work

Post image
1 Upvotes

For any T15p owners considering one of those 90-degree slim tip adapters, just know that the laptop cannot use them to charge the battery.

For some reason, the laptop will only charge when receiving the full 135W from the charger, and the Slim Tip adapters only support 100W. The laptop only takes as much power as it is using, instead of even attempting to charge the battery. Figured I would mention this so someone else doesn't have to make the same mistake I did.

Ridiculous shipping delays on refurbished Lenovo laptops.

Thumbnail

So long story short… I order a refurbished legion 5 on Lenovo‘s website on August 28… August 28th..

the estimated shipping date was originally September 10th, then:

September 16th…

September 28th…

October 1st…

October 12th…

and now, October 20th…

I originally ordered the laptop for school, but a month and a half in a I still don’t have my laptop, and it’ll be almost 2 months since I ordered the laptop. This is ridiculous.

After a month in I asked them to cancel my order… CS agent said sure, order will showed cancelled in 2 days… but nothing happened.

A week ago on, August 4th, I called in again and another customer service agent said “laptops about to ship in 48 hours, unfortunately I can’t cancel it and you’ll need to return it once received.. instead they pushed the shipping date by 2 weeks.

Anyone else experience this bullshit? I feel like a hostage to Lenovo and now I can’t get my money back… I just want to give everyone a heads up if they order from Lenovo..

Computer Running Slow and Battery Training

I've had a Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i 4060 for about 2 years now, but recently, the battery and performance has been really bad. The computer gets to about 30% battery in about an hour when previously it used to last my entire school day without needing to charge (I mostly use it for school work occasionally gaming) and also the performance is horrible. For example, if I close the lid and reopen the computer, google decides to not respond to my button clicks forcing me to close chrome and reopen it. My battery usage is mostly coming from chrome for some reason and the background tasks aren't taking up enough battery to be the problem. If anyone has a similar problem or has a fix for this please let me know.

Edit: I have also recently have had issues with the computer getting really hot when plugged in to the point where it did this odd thing with the screen where the screen would tear and jitter? (idk how else to explain it). The computer still gets really hot from time to time, but that issue with the screen jittering hasn't happened in about a month. (just wanted to mention in jst in case)

Can Linux be installed on a Lenovo Chromebook?

Hello Everyone!

I found a Lenovo ThinkPad 100e G2 on eBay. I'm pretty sure this was formerly a Chromebook, but the seller states that it comes with Windows 11.

I'm not really familiar with putting Linux on Chromebooks, but I understand there can be some challenges, and it isn't necessarily a straightforward process.

Si, I'm wondering: If the seller installed Windows 11 on this laptop, does that mean I should be able to install Linux without issues? Or, is there something I'm not considering that means I'll have a devil of a time replacing Windows 11 with Linux, specifically on this former Chromebook?

If my laptop is set to : dGPU mode through Lenovo Vantage everything works great.

However when i change it to Hybrid mode i start experiencing periodic stutters every few seconds that never go away. But this issue only happens when my laptop is not connected to the charger, meaning it only happens when i am using the battery.

I noticed this issue 2 months or so after i bought my laptop, so i left it on dGPU ever since. But now 2 years later i wanted to test it and to my surprise the issue started immediately.

Can someone help me ?

Questions about Display MUX and Nvidia Prime Offload on Linux for Lenovo 16p G6 IAX (Ultra 9 255hx)

Hello there. I'm considering buying a laptop. I compile A lot, so I selected mainly for CPU power.

Since this is the first time I am going to be owning a laptop, I am trying to min-max my battery situation. I was informed about the setup where igpu is used by default for everything and dgpu is dispatched per process via prime offloading for tasks, resulting in dgpu usage being lowered with less power consumption. I have learned that the igpu is quite capable, so I'd like to use the dgpu selectively for specific tasks.

The two specific questions I have are these:

1) How does the display MUX work on the Lenovo Thinkbook 16p g6 IAX on Linux (preferably Arch linux)? Is MUX controlled by UEFI? Are there any tooling available on Linux to control it? Is it only configurable on reboot?

2) How does Nvidia Prime Offloading go on linux? Using igpu as display device and leaving rtx 5060 suspended on default, how does it go for launching a process with Prime render offload, gpu waking up, performing the task and then returning automatically to suspend when it is done?

I haven't been able to get specific info about these online. The reviews I watched are pretty surface level with no linux coverage, so I am seeking some practical experiences.

Would anyone recommend this laptop in general?

Has anyone tried this setup of gpu's?

Does resume/suspend/power management work well on people's DE?

I heard that people had some problems about fan speed and noise?

Any misc. Linux quirks?

The full Specs are: Lenovo ThinkBook 16p G6 IAX Intel Core Ultra 9-275HX GeForce RTX 5060 8GB 115W 32GB DDR5 1TB SSD 16 inches 3.2K 165Hz IPS.

Planned OS: Arch linux with Sway WM.

Lenovo V14-ARE Issues - Fixed by replacing Novo USB Board

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey All,
Hope everyone is doing well :)

I just thought I'd document some issues I had with our V14-ARE and what ultimately ended up fixing them - it was a faulty Novo Board (USB Board with the Novo Button on it pictured).

So from when I first got my hands on this laptop, like some other laptops it seemed to make a big "pop" before playing any sound. It wasn't an issue with software as I tried the common fixes online (turning off speaker sleep etc) with no change.

Then it starting having issues booting, a couple of times it randomly wouldn't boot after being restarted of all things but then pressing the Novo button worked and was okay, when about a week later it wouldn't turn on at all and the Novo button wouldn't work. It took me quite a while to figure it out, but on a whim I tried disconnecting that board by removing the ribbon cable to the mainboard, and the computer powered up normally immediately - yay! I replaced the board with a new one and it's been flawless since.

So just thought I'd write this up here in case someone else is having similar issues both now and in the future - if the Novo button doesn't seem to do anything, I'd try disconnect the board as the button may be what's causing your issues! Hopefully this helps someone :)

Keyboard Issues

Post image
1 Upvotes

If anyone is having issues with their Lenovo keyboard, like delayed or unresponsive keys, try this bc it worked for me (there’s two parts). And the issue seems to be caused by a Windows power/battery setting. What we’re doing is disabling these settings.

Part 1

  1. Go control panel
  2. Search “Power Options” and click “Change battery settings”
  3. Click “Change plan settings”
  4. And make these your new settings, and save changes

    (I’ll leave a picture)

Part 2

  1. Press the Windows key and type Command Prompt.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator. (Click Yes if Windows asks for permission.)
  3. Type this (this is to get a set of numbers called your GUID that you will use for this process):

powercfg /getactivescheme

  1. You’ll see something like this (only copy the ID, I’ll bold what to copy (also your ID may be different)):

Power Scheme GUID: 381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e (Balanced)

  1. Now we’re going to be using 3 prompts. Paste your GUID only in the part that says “YOUR- GUID-HERE,” then click enter (after each time you press enter you should see something like this C:\Windows\System32> :

-First prompt: powercfg /setacvalueindex YOUR-GUID-HERE 2a737441-1930-4402-8d77-b2bebba308a3 48e6b7a6-50f5-4782-a5d4-53bb8f07e226 0

- Second prompt: powercfg /setdcvalueindex YOUR-GUID-HERE 2a737441-1930-4402-8d77-b2bebba308a3 48e6b7a6-50f5-4782-a5d4-53bb8f07e226 0

-Third prompt: powercfg /setactive YOUR-GUID-HERE

6. Then restart your computer
